संजय उवाच राजन्कुरूणां प्रवरैर्बलैर्भीममभिद्रुतम् मज्जन्तमिव कौन्तेयमुज्जिहीर्षुर्धनंजयः

Sañjaya said: Dhanañjayā saw that the foremost among the Kuru-s had attacked Bhīmasena with great force and that he was submerged.

संजय ने कहा: धनंजय ने देखा कि कौरवों में सबसे अग्रणी ने भीमसेन पर बड़ी ताकत से हमला किया था और वह डूब गया था।

विमृद्य सूतपुत्रस्य सेनां भारत सायकैः प्राहिणोन्मृत्युलोकाय परवीरान्धनंजयः

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Wishing to save him, he struck the soldiers of the son of a sūta with arrows. Dhanañjayā conveyed brave ones amongst the enemy to the world of the dead.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! उसे बचाने की इच्छा से उसने सूतपुत्र के सैनिकों को बाणों से घायल कर दिया। धनंजय ने शत्रुओं के बीच से बहादुर लोगों को मृतकों की दुनिया में पहुँचाया।

ततोऽस्याम्बरमावृत्य शरजालानि भागशः अदृश्यन्त तथान्ये च निघ्नन्तस्तव वाहिनीम्

Some of his nets of arrows covered the sky. Others were invisible, but killed your soldiers.

उसके बाणों के कुछ जालों ने आकाश को ढक लिया। अन्य लोग अदृश्य थे, लेकिन उन्होंने आपके सैनिकों को मार डाला।

स पक्षिसंघाचरितमाकाशं पूरयञ्शरैः धनंजयो महाराज कुरूणामन्तकोऽभवत्

He filled the sky with arrows and they seemed to be like a flock of birds. O great king! Dhanañjayā was like a destroyer of the Kuru-s.

उसने आकाश को बाणों से भर दिया और वे पक्षियों के झुंड के समान प्रतीत होने लगे। हे महान राजा! धनंजय कुरु-वंश के विनाशक के समान थे।

ततो भल्लैः क्षुरप्रैश्च नाराचैर्निर्मलैरपि गात्राणि प्राक्षिणोत्पार्थः शिरांसि च चकर्त ह

Pārtha used broad-headed arrows, kṣurapra-s and sparkling iron arrows to mangle the bodies and sever the heads.

पार्थ ने शवों को क्षत-विक्षत करने और सिरों को काटने के लिए चौड़े सिर वाले बाणों, क्षुरप्रा-स और चमचमाते लोहे के बाणों का उपयोग किया।

छिन्नगात्रैर्विकवचैर्विशिरस्कैः समन्ततः पतितैश्च पतद्भिश्च योधैरासीत्समावृतम्

Severed bodies, dislodged armour and heads were strewn around everywhere. Foot soldiers fell down and warriors were spread around.

कटे हुए शव, बिखरे हुए कवच और सिर हर जगह बिखरे हुए थे। पैदल सैनिक गिर पड़े और योद्धा चारों ओर फैल गये।

धनंजयशराभ्यस्तैः स्यन्दनाश्वनरद्विपैः रणभूमिरभूद्राजन्महावैतरणी यथा

O king! Destroyed by Dhanañjayā's arrows, chariots, horses, men and elephants were on the field of battle and made it look like a giant Vaitaraṇī river.

हे राजा! धनंजय के बाणों से नष्ट हुए रथ, घोड़े, आदमी और हाथी युद्ध के मैदान में थे और इसे एक विशाल वैतरणी नदी के समान बना दिया था।

ईषाचक्राक्षभङ्गैश्च व्यश्वैः साश्वैश्च युध्यताम् ससूतैर्हतसूतैश्च रथैः स्तीर्णाभवन्मही

As they fought, wheels of chariots were shattered, sometimes without horses and sometimes yoked to horses. With charioteers slain, or with charioteers, chariots were scattered around on the ground.

जैसे-जैसे वे लड़ते गए, रथों के पहिए चकनाचूर हो गए, कभी-कभी बिना घोड़ों के और कभी-कभी घोड़ों से जुड़े हुए। रथों के मारे जाने से या सारथियों के मारे जाने से रथ भूमि पर इधर-उधर बिखर गये।

सुवर्णवर्मसंनाहैर्योधैः कनकभूषणैः आस्थिताः कृतवर्माणो भद्रा नित्यमदा द्विपाः क्रुद्धाः क्रुद्धैर्महामात्रैः प्रेषितार्जुनमभ्ययुः

The warriors wore golden armour and golden ornaments. They were on well-trained elephants that were also armoured. The wrathful drivers angered them by urging them on towards Arjuna.

योद्धा सुनहरे कवच और सुनहरे आभूषण पहनते थे। वे अच्छी तरह से प्रशिक्षित हाथियों पर थे जो बख्तरबंद भी थे। क्रोधित चालकों ने उन्हें अर्जुन की ओर प्रेरित करके क्रोधित कर दिया।

चतुःशताः शरवर्षैर्हताः पेतुः किरीटिना पर्यस्तानीव शृङ्गाणि ससत्त्वानि महागिरेः

Kirīṭī slew and brought down four hundred of these through his showers of arrows. They were like the summits of large mountains, with living beings still atop them.

किरीटी ने अपने बाणों की वर्षा से इनमें से चार सौ को मार डाला। वे बड़े पहाड़ों के शिखर की तरह थे, जिनके ऊपर अभी भी जीवित प्राणी थे।

धनंजयशराभ्यस्तैः स्तीर्णा भूर्वरवारणैः अभिपेदेऽर्जुनरथो घनान्भिन्दन्निवांशुमान्

Struck by Dhanañjayā's arrows, the elephants were strewn around on the ground. Arjuna's chariot passed through them, like the sun penetrating a mās-s of clouds.

धनंजय के बाणों से घायल होकर हाथी जमीन पर इधर-उधर बिखर गये। अर्जुन का रथ उनके बीच से ऐसे गुजर गया, जैसे सूर्य बादलों के समूह को भेदकर निकल जाता है।

हतैर्गजमनुष्याश्वैर्भग्नैश्च बहुधा रथैः विशस्त्रपत्रकवचैर्युद्धशौण्डैर्गतासुभिः अपविद्धायुधैर्मार्गः स्तीर्णोऽभूत्फल्गुनेन वै

Elephants, men and horses were slain and many chariots were fragmented. With their armour dislodged by arrows, warriors who were fierce in battle lost their lives. Phālguna crossed over that path of battle, which was strewn around in this fashion.

हाथी, आदमी और घोड़े मारे गये और कई रथ टुकड़े-टुकड़े हो गये। बाणों से कवच छिन्न-भिन्न हो जाने के कारण युद्ध में भयंकर योद्धा अपने प्राण गँवा बैठे। फाल्गुन ने युद्ध का वह मार्ग पार कर लिया, जो इस प्रकार चारों ओर फैला हुआ था।

व्यस्फूर्जयच्च गाण्डीवं सुमहद्भैरवस्वनम् घोरो वज्रविनिष्पेषः स्तनयित्नोरिवाम्बरे

He stretched Gāṇḍīva and it let out a great and terrible twang. The sound was as awful as that of thunder, resounding amidst dark clouds.

उसने गाण्डीव को खींचा और उससे एक बड़ी और भयानक ध्वनि निकली। यह आवाज काले बादलों के बीच गड़गड़ाती गड़गड़ाहट जैसी भयानक थी।

ततः प्रादीर्यत चमूर्धनंजयशराहता महावातसमाविद्धा महानौरिव सागरे

Struck by Dhanañjayā's arrows, the army was routed. It was as if a large boat was tossed around on the ocean by a great tempest.

धनंजय के बाणों से आहत होकर सेना पराजित हो गई। यह ऐसा था मानो एक बड़ी नाव समुद्र में तेज़ तूफ़ान के कारण इधर-उधर उछल पड़ी हो।

नानारूपाः प्रहरणाः शरा गाण्डीवचोदिताः अलातोल्काशनिप्रख्यास्तव सैन्यं विनिर्दहन्

Arrows and weapons of many forms issued out of Gāṇḍīva. They flamed like meteors and lightning and scorched your soldiers.

गाण्डीव से अनेक प्रकार के बाण और हथियार निकलते थे। वे उल्काओं और बिजली की तरह चमक उठे और उन्होंने आपके सैनिकों को झुलसा दिया।

महागिरौ वेणुवनं निशि प्रज्वलितं यथा तथा तव महत्सैन्यं प्रास्फुरच्छरपीडितम्

It was like a grove of bamboos burning on a giant mountain in the night. That was how your large army seemed to blaze, oppressed by the arrows.

यह रात में किसी विशाल पहाड़ पर जलते बांसों के झुरमुट जैसा था। इस प्रकार आपकी विशाल सेना बाणों से पीड़ित होकर जलती हुई प्रतीत हो रही थी।

संपिष्टदग्धविध्वस्तं तव सैन्यं किरीटिना हतं प्रविहतं बाणैः सर्वतः प्रद्रुतं दिशः

Yours soldiers were crushed, burnt and destroyed by Kirīṭī. They were killed and wounded by the arrows and fled in all the directions.

आपके सैनिकों को किरीटी ने कुचल दिया, जला दिया और नष्ट कर दिया। वे बाणों से मारे गये और घायल होकर सभी दिशाओं में भाग गये।

महावने मृगगणा दावाग्निग्रसिता यथा कुरवः पर्यवर्तन्त निर्दग्धाः सव्यसाचिना

It was as if a herd of deer was being devoured by a conflagration in a large forest. When they were consumed by Savyasachi, such was the state of the Kuru-s.

यह ऐसा था मानो किसी बड़े जंगल में हिरणों का झुंड आग की चपेट में आकर भस्म हो रहा हो। जब सव्यसाची ने उन्हें भस्म कर दिया, तो कुरु-वंश की ऐसी स्थिति हो गई।

उत्सृज्य हि महाबाहुं भीमसेनं तदा रणे बलं कुरूणामुद्विग्नं सर्वमासीत्पराङ्मुखम्

In the battle, they abandoned the mighty-armed Bhīmasena. The army of the Kuru-s was anxious and all of them desired to retreat.

युद्ध में उन्होंने महाबाहु भीमसेन को त्याग दिया। कौरवों की सेना चिंतित थी और वे सभी पीछे हटना चाहते थे।

ततः कुरुषु भग्नेषु बीभत्सुरपराजितः भीमसेनं समासाद्य मुहूर्तं सोऽभ्यवर्तत

Thus, the Kuru-s were defeated by Bībhatsu and routed. Having clashed against Bhīmasena, they were made to withdraw in a short while.

इस प्रकार, कुरु बिभात्सु से हार गए और पराजित हो गए। भीमसेन से भिड़ने के बाद उन्हें थोड़ी देर में पीछे हटना पड़ा।

समागम्य स भीमेन मन्त्रयित्वा च फल्गुनः विशल्यमरुजं चास्मै कथयित्वा युधिष्ठिरम्

Phālguna approached Bhīmā and consulted with him. He told him that Yudhiṣṭhira's wounds had been attended to.

फाल्गुन भीम के पास गया और उससे परामर्श किया। उन्होंने उसे बताया कि युधिष्ठिर के घावों पर ध्यान दिया गया है।

भीमसेनाभ्यनुज्ञातस्ततः प्रायाद्धनंजयः नादयन्रथघोषेण पृथिवीं द्यां च भारत

Having obtained Bhimsena's permission, Dhanañjayā departed. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! The earth and the sky resounded with the clatter of his chariot.

भीमसेन की अनुमति पाकर धनंजय चले गये। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! उनके रथ की घरघराहट से पृथ्वी और आकाश गूँज उठा।

ततः परिवृतो भीमैर्दशभिः शत्रुपुंगवैः दुःशासनादवरजैस्तव पुत्रैर्धनंजयः

Ten of your terrible sons, bulls among the enemy, and all born after Duḥśāsana, surrounded Dhanañjayā.

आपके दस भयानक पुत्रों ने, शत्रुओं में से बैलों ने, और दु:शासन के बाद जन्मे सभी पुत्रों ने धनंजय को घेर लिया।

ते तमभ्यर्दयन्बाणैरुल्काभिरिव कुञ्जरम् आततेष्वसनाः क्रूरा नृत्यन्त इव भारत

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Those cruel ones seemed to dance around and attacked him with their arrows, like an elephant with flaming torches.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! वे क्रूर लोग जलती हुई मशालों वाले हाथी की भाँति चारों ओर नाच रहे थे और अपने बाणों से उस पर आक्रमण कर रहे थे।

अपसव्यांस्तु तांश्चक्रे रथेन मधुसूदनः ततस्ते प्राद्रवञ्शूराः पराङ्मुखरथेऽर्जुने

Madhusūdana guided the chariot so that they were on the right side. On seeing that Arjuna was advancing towards them, those brave ones retreated.

मधुसूदन ने रथ का मार्गदर्शन किया ताकि वे दाहिनी ओर रहें। यह देखकर कि अर्जुन उनकी ओर बढ़ रहा है, वे वीर पीछे हट गये।

तेषामापततां केतून्रथांश्चापानि सायकान् नाराचैरर्धचन्द्रैश्च क्षिप्रं पार्थो न्यपातयत्

Pārtha swiftly used iron arrows and arrows in the shape of a half-moon to destroy their standards, chariots and bows and bring them down.

पार्थ ने शीघ्रता से उनके ध्वजों, रथों तथा धनुषों को नष्ट करने तथा उन्हें गिराने के लिए अर्धचन्द्राकार लोहे के बाणों का प्रयोग किया।

अथान्यैर्दशभिर्भल्लैः शिरांस्येषां न्यपातयत् रोषसंरक्तनेत्राणि संदष्टौष्ठानि भूतले तानि वक्त्राणि विबभुर्व्योम्नि तारागणा इव

He then used ten other broad-headed arrows to sever their heads. The eyes were red with rage. The teeth bit the lips. Fallen down on the ground, those faces looked like stars that had been dislodged from the firmament.

फिर उसने उनके सिर काटने के लिए दस अन्य चौड़े सिर वाले तीरों का इस्तेमाल किया। आँखें क्रोध से लाल हो गयीं थीं। दांतों ने होठों को काट लिया. ज़मीन पर गिरे हुए वे चेहरे आकाश से टूटे हुए तारों के समान लग रहे थे।

तांस्तु भल्लैर्महावेगैर्दशभिर्दश कौरवान् रुक्माङ्गदान्रुक्मपुङ्खैर्विद्ध्वा प्रायादमित्रहा

Ten immensely forceful, gold-tufted and broad-headed arrows brought down ten Kaurava-s who possessed golden clubs. When they had been pierced, the slayer of enemies departed.

दस अत्यंत बलशाली, स्वर्ण-जटित और चौड़े सिर वाले बाणों ने स्वर्ण गदाधारी दस कौरवों को मार गिराया। जब उन्हें छेद दिया गया, तो शत्रुओं का संहारक चला गया।
