संजय उवाच भीमसेनं ततो द्रौणी राजन्विव्याध पत्रिणा त्वरया परया युक्तो दर्शयन्नस्त्रलाघवम्

Sañjaya said: O king! Droṇa's son possessed supreme speed. He displayed his dexterity with weapons and struck Bhīmasena with an arrow.

संजय ने कहा: हे राजा! द्रोण के पुत्र के पास परम गति थी। उसने शस्त्रों में अपनी निपुणता प्रदर्शित की और भीमसेन पर बाण से प्रहार किया।

अथैनं पुनराजघ्ने नवत्या निशितैः शरैः सर्वमर्माणि संप्रेक्ष्य मर्मज्ञो लघुहस्तवत्

He then again struck him with another ninety sharp arrows in his inner organs. He was light in the use of his hands and had seen and was knowledgeable about where the weak spots were.

उसने फिर उसके आंतरिक अंगों में नब्बे तीखे बाणों से प्रहार किया। वह अपने हाथों का उपयोग करने में हल्का था और उसने देख लिया था और जानता था कि कमजोरियाँ कहाँ हैं।

भीमसेनः समाकीर्णो द्रौणिना निशितैः शरैः रराज समरे राजन्रश्मिवानिव भास्करः

O king! Having been struck by the sharp arrows shot by Droṇa's son, Bhīmasena was resplendent in that battle, like the sun with its rays.

हे राजा! द्रोणपुत्र द्वारा चलाये गये तीखे बाणों से घायल हुए भीमसेन उस युद्ध में अपनी किरणों से सूर्य के समान देदीप्यमान हो रहे थे।

ततः शरसहस्रेण सुप्रयुक्तेन पाण्डवः द्रोणपुत्रमवच्छाद्य सिंहनादममुञ्चत

Pāṇḍava shot one thousand well-aimed arrows and enveloping Droṇa's son, emitted a roar like a lion.

पाण्डव ने एक हजार अचूक बाण छोड़े और द्रोणपुत्र को घेरकर सिंह के समान गर्जना की।

शरैः शरांस्ततो द्रौणिः संवार्य युधि पाण्डवम् ललाटेऽभ्यहनद्राजन्नाराचेन स्मयन्निव

O king! In the encounter, Droṇa's son countered Pāṇḍava with one hundred arrows and smiling, struck him in the forehead with an iron arrow.

हे राजा! मुठभेड़ में, द्रोण के पुत्र ने एक सौ बाणों से पांडव का मुकाबला किया और मुस्कुराते हुए, उनके माथे पर एक लोहे का बाण मारा।

ललाटस्थं ततो बाणं धारयामास पाण्डवः यथा शृङ्गं वने दृप्तः खड्गो धारयते नृप

O king! Bearing that arrow on his forehead, Pāṇḍava looked like a proud and horned rhinoceros in the forest.

हे राजा! उस बाण को अपने मस्तक पर धारण किये हुए पाण्डव जंगल में गर्वित तथा सींग वाले गैंडे के समान लग रहे थे।

ततो द्रौणिं रणे भीमो यतमानं पराक्रमी त्रिभिर्विव्याध नाराचैर्ललाटे विस्मयन्निव

While Droṇa's son was making his efforts in the battle, the valiant Bhīmā also seemed to smile and struck him in the forehead with three iron arrows.

जब द्रोण का पुत्र युद्ध में अपना प्रयास कर रहा था, तो बहादुर भीम भी मुस्कुराते दिखे और उनके माथे पर तीन लोहे के बाणों से प्रहार किया।

ललाटस्थैस्ततो बाणैर्ब्राह्मणः स व्यरोचत प्रावृषीव यथा सिक्तस्त्रिशृङ्गः पर्वतोत्तमः

With those arrows stuck to his forehead, the brāhmaṇa was resplendent. He looked like a supreme mountain with three peaks, drenched during the rains.

उन बाणों को माथे पर लगाए जाने से ब्राह्मण शोभा पा रहा था। वह बारिश के दौरान भीगा हुआ तीन चोटियों वाला एक सर्वोच्च पर्वत जैसा दिखता था।

ततः शरशतैर्द्रौणिमर्दयामास पाण्डवः न चैनं कम्पयामास मातरिश्वेव पर्वतम्

Droṇa's son struck Pāṇḍava with one hundred arrows, but could not make him tremble, like the wind against a mountain.

द्रोणपुत्र ने एक सौ बाणों से पाण्डवों को घायल कर दिया, परन्तु वे उन्हें उस प्रकार काँप न सके, जिस प्रकार पर्वत को वायु हिलाती है।

तथैव पाण्डवं युद्धे द्रौणिः शरशतैः शितैः नाकम्पयत संहृष्टो वार्योघ इव पर्वतम्

Droṇa's son used hundreds of other sharp arrows in the battle. However, he could not make the cheerful Pāṇḍava tremble, like the wind against a mountain.

द्रोणपुत्र ने युद्ध में सैकड़ों अन्य तीखे बाणों का प्रयोग किया। हालाँकि, वह हर्षित पांडवों को उस तरह नहीं कंपा सका, जिस तरह पहाड़ के खिलाफ हवा चलती है।

तावन्योन्यं शरैर्घोरैश्छादयानौ महारथौ रथचर्यागतौ शूरौ शुशुभाते रणोत्कटौ

The mahāratha-s shrouded each other with many other showers of arrows. They were proud in the battle and roaming around on their chariots, the brave ones were resplendent.

महारथियों ने बाणों की अनेक वर्षा से एक दूसरे को आच्छादित कर दिया। वे युद्ध में गौरवान्वित थे और अपने रथों पर घूमते हुए वीर शोभा पा रहे थे।

आदित्याविव संदीप्तौ लोकक्षयकरावुभौ स्वरश्मिभिरिवान्योन्यं तापयन्तौ शरोत्तमैः

They blazed like a couple of suns that had arisen for destroying beings. Their supreme arrows were like rays and they scorched each other with these.

वे दो सूर्यों के समान चमक रहे थे जो प्राणियों का विनाश करने के लिए उत्पन्न हुए थे। उनके श्रेष्ठ बाण किरणों के समान थे और इनसे वे एक-दूसरे को झुलसा देते थे।

कृतप्रतिकृते यत्नं कुर्वाणौ च महारणे कृतप्रतिकृते यत्नं चक्राते तावभीतवत्

In that great battle, they acted and counteracted each other. Without any fear, they made efforts to act and counteract.

उस महान युद्ध में, उन्होंने एक-दूसरे पर कार्रवाई की और प्रतिकार किया। बिना किसी डर के उन्होंने कार्रवाई और प्रतिकार करने का प्रयास किया।

व्याघ्राविव च संग्रामे चेरतुस्तौ महारथौ शरदंष्ट्रौ दुराधर्षौ चापव्यात्तौ भयानकौ

The mahāratha-s roamed around in that battle, like tigers. The invincible arrows were like the teeth and the terrible bows were like the mouths.

महारथी उस युद्ध में बाघों की भाँति विचरते थे। अजेय बाण दाँतों के समान और भयानक धनुष मुख के समान थे।

अभूतां तावदृश्यौ च शरजालैः समन्ततः मेघजालैरिव च्छन्नौ गगने चन्द्रभास्करौ

With nets of arrows on all sides, they became invisible. It was as if the sun or the moon in the sky was enveloped by a net of clouds.

चारों ओर बाणों का जाल होने से वे अदृश्य हो गये। ऐसा लग रहा था मानों आकाश में सूर्य या चंद्रमा बादलों के जाल से घिर गया हो।

प्रकाशौ च मुहूर्तेन तत्रैवास्तामरिंदमौ विमुक्तौ मेघजालेन शशिसूर्यौ यथा दिवि

But in a short instant, those two scorchers of enemies became visible again, like the moon and the sun in the sky, freed from the net of clouds.

परन्तु थोड़े ही क्षण में शत्रुओं को झुलसाने वाले वे दोनों बादल के जाल से मुक्त होकर आकाश में चन्द्रमा और सूर्य के समान पुनः दृष्टिगोचर हो गये।

अपसव्यं ततश्चक्रे द्रौणिस्तत्र वृकोदरम् किरञ्शरशतैरुग्रैर्धाराभिरिव पर्वतम्

Droṇa's son placed Vṛkodara on his right and showered down hundreds of sharp arrows, like rain pouring down on a mountain.

द्रोण के पुत्र ने वृकोदर को अपनी दाहिनी ओर बैठाया और सैकड़ों तीखे बाणों की वर्षा की, जैसे पर्वत पर वर्षा हो रही हो।

न तु तन्ममृषे भीमः शत्रोर्विजयलक्षणम् प्रतिचक्रे च तं राजन्पाण्डवोऽप्यपसव्यतः

However, Bhīmā was not ready to tolerate signs of his enemy being victorious. O king! Remaining on the right, Pāṇḍava began to execute circular motions, advancing and retreating.

हालाँकि, भीम अपने शत्रु के विजयी होने के संकेतों को बर्दाश्त करने के लिए तैयार नहीं थे। हे राजा! दाहिनी ओर रहकर, पांडव आगे बढ़ने और पीछे हटने के लिए गोलाकार गति करने लगे।

मण्डलानां विभागेषु गतप्रत्यागतेषु च बभूव तुमुलं युद्धं तयोस्तत्र महामृधे

In that great battle, there was a tumultuous encounter between them.

उस महान युद्ध में उनके बीच घमासान युद्ध हुआ।

चरित्वा विविधान्मार्गान्मण्डलं स्थानमेव च शरैः पूर्णायतोत्सृष्टैरन्योन्यमभिजघ्नतुः

In that spot, they traversed along various circular paths. They drew their bows back to the full extent and struck each other with arrows.

उस स्थान पर, वे विभिन्न वृत्ताकार पथों से गुज़रे। उन्होंने अपने धनुष पूरी तरह पीछे खींच लिये और एक-दूसरे पर बाणों से प्रहार करने लगे।

अन्योन्यस्य वधे यत्नं चक्रतुस्तौ महारथौ ईषतुर्विरथं चैव कर्तुमन्योन्यमाहवे

The mahāratha-s made the best efforts to kill each other. In that battle, they used their arrows to try and deprive each other of their chariots.

महारथियों ने एक-दूसरे को मारने की पूरी कोशिश की। उस युद्ध में, उन्होंने एक-दूसरे के रथों को छीनने की कोशिश करने के लिए अपने तीरों का इस्तेमाल किया।

ततो द्रौणिर्महास्त्राणि प्रादुश्चक्रे महारथः तान्यस्त्रैरेव समरे प्रतिजघ्नेऽस्य पाण्डवः

Droṇa's mahāratha son released many great weapons and in that encounter, Pāṇḍava destroyed them with his own weapons.

द्रोण के महारथ पुत्र ने कई महान हथियार छोड़े और उस मुठभेड़ में पांडव ने उन्हें अपने हथियारों से नष्ट कर दिया।

ततो घोरं महाराज अस्त्रयुद्धमवर्तत ग्रहयुद्धं यथा घोरं प्रजासंहरणे अभूत्

O great king! There was an extremely fierce battle with those weapons. It was as if there was a tremendous clash between the planets, for the sake of destroying beings.

हे महान राजा! उन अस्त्र-शस्त्रों से अत्यंत भयंकर युद्ध हुआ। ऐसा लग रहा था मानो प्राणियों को नष्ट करने के लिए ग्रहों के बीच ज़बरदस्त टकराव हो रहा हो।

ते बाणाः समसज्जन्त क्षिप्तास्ताभ्यां तु भारत द्योतयन्तो दिशः सर्वास्तच्च सैन्यं समन्ततः

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Those arrows were swiftly released and clashed against each other. They illuminated all the directions and the soldiers on every side.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! वे तीर तेजी से छूटे और एक दूसरे से टकरा गये। उन्होंने सभी दिशाओं और सभी ओर के सैनिकों को प्रकाशित कर दिया।

बाणसंघावृतं घोरमाकाशं समपद्यत उक्लापातकृतं यद्वत्प्रजानां संक्षये नृप

Because of the large numbers of arrows, the sky looked terrible. O king! It was as if meteors were descending to destroy beings.

बाणों की अधिक संख्या के कारण आकाश भयानक लगने लगा। हे राजा! ऐसा लग रहा था मानों उल्काएँ प्राणियों को नष्ट करने के लिए उतर रही हों।

बाणाभिघातात्संजज्ञे तत्र भारत पावकः सविस्फुलिङ्गो दीप्तार्चिः सोऽदहद्वाहिनीद्वयम्

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! As the torrents of arrows clashed against each other, sparks of fire were generated and those blazing flames consumed both the armies.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! जैसे ही बाणों की धाराएँ एक-दूसरे से टकराईं, आग की चिंगारियाँ उत्पन्न हुईं और उन धधकती लपटों ने दोनों सेनाओं को भस्म कर दिया।

तत्र सिद्धा महाराज संपतन्तोऽब्रुवन्वचः अति युद्धानि सर्वाणि युद्धमेतत्ततोऽधिकम्

O great king! The siddha-s descended there and said, "This encounter is superior to all other encounters.

हे महान राजा! वहाँ सिद्ध लोग उतरे और उन्होंने कहा, "यह मुठभेड़ अन्य सभी मुठभेड़ों से श्रेष्ठ है।

सर्वयुद्धानि चैतस्य कलां नार्हन्ति षोडशीम् नैतादृशं पुनर्युद्धं न भूतं न भविष्यति

All other battles do not amount to one-sixteenth of this. Such an encounter has not happened earlier, nor will it happen again.

अन्य सभी लड़ाइयाँ इसके सोलहवें हिस्से के बराबर भी नहीं हैं। ऐसी मुठभेड़ न पहले हुई है, न आगे होगी.

अहो ज्ञानेन संयुक्तावुभौ चोग्रपराक्रमौ अहो भीमे बलं भीममेतयोश्च कृतास्त्रता

These two lords are knowledgeable and terrible in their valour. Bhīmā is terrible in his valour and the other one is skilled in the use of weapons.

ये दोनों स्वामी ज्ञानी और वीरता में भयानक हैं। भीम अपनी वीरता में भयानक है और दूसरा हथियार चलाने में कुशल है।

अहो वीर्यस्य सारत्वमहो सौष्ठवमेतयोः स्थितावेतौ हि समरे कालान्तकयमोपमौ

They represent the essence of valour and great is their skill. They are stationed in the battle like two Destroyers.

वे वीरता के सार का प्रतिनिधित्व करते हैं और उनका कौशल महान है। वे दो विध्वंसक की तरह युद्ध में तैनात हैं।

रुद्रौ द्वाविव संभूतौ यथा द्वाविव भास्करौ यमौ वा पुरुषव्याघ्रौ घोररूपाविमौ रणे

They are like two Rudra-s or like two suns. In this battle, those two tigers among men have terrible forms, like two Yāma-s."

वे दो रुद्रों के समान या दो सूर्यों के समान हैं। इस युद्ध में, उन दो मनुष्यों के बाघों के रूप दो यम के समान भयानक थे।"

श्रूयन्ते स्म तदा वाचः सिद्धानां वै मुहुर्मुहुः सिंहनादश्च संजज्ञे समेतानां दिवौकसाम् अद्भुतं चाप्यचिन्त्यं च दृष्ट्वा कर्म तयोर्मृधे

At that time, we repeatedly heard these words spoken by the siddha-s. Among the assembled denizens of heaven, there were roars like lions, on witnessing the extraordinary and unthinkable deeds performed by them in that battle.

उस समय सिद्धों द्वारा कहे गए ये शब्द हमने बार-बार सुने। उस युद्ध में उनके द्वारा किए गए असाधारण और अकल्पनीय कार्यों को देखकर, एकत्रित स्वर्ग के निवासियों के बीच शेरों की तरह दहाड़ने लगे।

तौ शूरौ समरे राजन्परस्परकृतागसौ परस्परमुदैक्षेतां क्रोधादुद्वृत्य चक्षुषी

O king! Having injured each other in that encounter, those two brave ones glanced towards each other, their eyes dilated with rage.

हे राजा! उस मुठभेड़ में एक-दूसरे को घायल करने के बाद, उन दोनों बहादुरों ने एक-दूसरे की ओर देखा, उनकी आँखें क्रोध से फैल गईं।

क्रोधरक्तेक्षणौ तौ तु क्रोधात्प्रस्फुरिताधरौ क्रोधात्संदष्टदशनौ संदष्टदशनच्छदौ

Their eyes were red with anger. Their lips trembled in rage. They gnashed their teeth in wrath. They bit their lips in ire.

उनकी आँखें क्रोध से लाल थीं। उनके होंठ क्रोध से कांपने लगे। उन्होंने क्रोध से अपने दाँत पीस लिये। उन्होंने गुस्से में अपने होंठ चबा लिये।

अन्योन्यं छादयन्तौ स्म शरवृष्ट्या महारथौ शराम्बुधारौ समरे शस्त्रविद्युत्प्रकाशिनौ

The mahāratha-s enveloped each other with showers of arrows. In that encounter, the arrows were like rain pouring from clouds. The weapons were like lightning.

महारथियों ने बाणों की वर्षा से एक दूसरे को घेर लिया। उस मुठभेड़ में, बाण बादलों से बरसने वाली बारिश की तरह थे। हथियार बिजली की तरह थे.

तावन्योन्यं ध्वजौ विद्ध्वा सारथी च महारथौ अन्योन्यस्य हयान्विद्ध्वा बिभिदाते परस्परम्

The mahāratha-s pierced each other's standards and charioteers. They pierced each other's horses and struck each other.

महारथियों ने एक-दूसरे के ध्वजों और सारथियों को छेद डाला। उन्होंने एक-दूसरे के घोड़ों में छेद किया और एक-दूसरे को मारा।

ततः क्रुद्धौ महाराज बाणौ गृह्य महाहवे उभौ चिक्षिपतुस्तूर्णमन्योन्यस्य वधैषिणौ

O great king! In that great encounter, they picked up two arrows and swiftly released them towards each other, wishing to kill each other.

हे महान राजा! उस महान मुठभेड़ में, उन्होंने दो तीर उठाए और एक-दूसरे को मारने की इच्छा से तेजी से उन्हें एक-दूसरे की ओर छोड़ दिया।

तौ सायकौ महाराज द्योतमानौ चमूमुखे आजघ्नाते समासाद्य वज्रवेगौ दुरासदौ

O great king! At the heads of the two armies, those two arrows blazed and struck each other, with an irresistible force that was like that of the vajra.

हे महान राजा! दोनों सेनाओं के प्रधानों पर वे दोनों बाण भड़क उठे और वज्र के समान अप्रतिरोध्य बल से एक-दूसरे पर प्रहार करने लगे।

तौ परस्परवेगाच्च शराभ्यां च भृशाहतौ निपेततुर्महावीरौ स्वरथोपस्थयोस्तदा

They severely wounded each other through the force of those arrows. Those two, who were extremely valiant, sank down on the floors of their chariots.

उन बाणों के बल से उन्होंने एक-दूसरे को गंभीर रूप से घायल कर दिया। वे दोनों, जो अत्यंत वीर थे, अपने रथों के फर्श पर गिर गये।

ततस्तु सारथिर्ज्ञात्वा द्रोणपुत्रमचेतनम् अपोवाह रणाद्राजन्सर्वक्षत्रस्य पश्यतः

O king! While all the kṣatriya-s looked on, knowing that Droṇa's son had become unconscious, his charioteer bore him away from the field of battle.

हे राजा! जब सभी क्षत्रिय यह जानकर देखते रहे कि द्रोण का पुत्र बेहोश हो गया है, तो उसका सारथी उसे युद्ध के मैदान से दूर ले गया।

तथैव पाण्डवं राजन्विह्वलन्तं मुहुर्मुहुः अपोवाह रथेनाजौ सारथिः शत्रुतापनम्

O king! In similar fashion, Pāṇḍava, the scorcher of enemies, repeatedly lost his senses and his charioteer bore him away on the chariot.

हे राजा! इसी प्रकार शत्रुओं को भस्म करने वाले पांडव बार-बार अपनी इंद्रियाँ खोते रहे और उनका सारथी उन्हें रथ पर बैठाकर ले गया।
