संजय उवाच प्रत्यागत्य पुनर्जिष्णुरहन्संशप्तकान्बहून् वक्रानुवक्रगमनादङ्गारक इव ग्रहः

Sañjaya said: Jiṣṇu again returned, like the planet Aṅgāraka in its forward and retrograde motions, to kill large numbers of saṃśaptaka-s.

संजय ने कहा: जिष्णु फिर से अंगारक ग्रह की तरह अपनी आगे और पीछे की गति में, बड़ी संख्या में संशप्तकों को मारने के लिए लौटा।

पार्थबाणहता राजन्नराश्वरथकुञ्जराः विचेलुर्बभ्रमुर्नेदुः पेतुर्मम्लुश्च मारिष

O king! O venerable one! Men, horses, rāṭha-s and elephants were killed by Pārtha's arrows. They wavered, wandered around, shrieked, fell down and died.

हे राजा! हे आदरणीय! पार्थ के बाणों से मनुष्य, घोड़े, रथ और हाथी मारे गये। वे डगमगाये, इधर-उधर भटके, चिल्लाये, गिरे और मर गये।

धुर्यं धुर्यतरान्सूतान्रथांश्च परिसंक्षिपन् पाणीन्पाणिगतं शस्त्रं बाहूनपि शिरांसि च

Large numbers of charioteers and chariots were flung away. There were hands, with weapons still in the hands, and arms and heads.

बड़ी संख्या में सारथी और रथ उड़ गये। हाथ थे, हाथों में अभी भी हथियार थे, भुजाएं और सिर थे।

भल्लैः क्षुरैरर्धचन्द्रैर्वत्सदन्तैश्च पाण्डवः चिच्छेदामित्रवीराणां समरे प्रतियुध्यताम्

Pāṇḍava severed them with broad-headed and razor-sharp arrows, arrows that were in the shape of a half-moon and arrows that had heads like a calf's tooth, as those enemy heroes fought against him in that battle.

पांडव ने उन्हें चौड़े सिर वाले और उस्तरा-तीक्ष्ण बाणों से काट डाला, ऐसे बाण जो आधे चंद्रमा के आकार के थे और ऐसे बाण जिनके सिर बछड़े के दांत के समान थे, क्योंकि वे शत्रु वीर उस युद्ध में उनके विरुद्ध लड़ रहे थे।

वाशितार्थे युयुत्सन्तो वृषभा वृषभं यथा आपतन्त्यर्जुनं शूराः शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः

They fought, like a bull that desires intercourse fighting against another bull. Hundreds and thousands of brave ones descended on Arjuna.

वे एक बैल की तरह लड़े जो संभोग की इच्छा रखता है और दूसरे बैल से लड़ता है। सैकड़ों और हजारों वीर अर्जुन पर टूट पड़े।

तेषां तस्य च तद्युद्धमभवल्लोमहर्षणम् त्रैलोक्यविजये यादृग्दैत्यानां सह वज्रिणा

The encounter between them and him was extraordinary and it made the body hair stand up. It was as if the daitya-s were fighting with the wielder of the vajra for the conquest of the three worlds.

उनके और उनके बीच की मुठभेड़ असाधारण थी और इससे शरीर के रोंगटे खड़े हो गये। यह ऐसा था मानो दैत्य तीनों लोकों पर विजय पाने के लिए वज्रधारी से युद्ध कर रहे हों।

तमविध्यत्त्रिभिर्बाणैर्दन्दशूकैरिवाहिभिः उग्रायुधस्ततस्तस्य शिरः कायादपाहरत्

Ugrāyudha pierced him with three arrows that were like malignant snakes, but he severed his head from his body.

उग्रायुध ने उसे घातक साँपों के समान तीन बाणों से घायल कर दिया, लेकिन उसने उसका सिर उसके शरीर से अलग कर दिया।

तेऽर्जुनं सर्वतः क्रुद्धा नानाशस्त्रैरवीवृषन् मरुद्भिः प्रेषिता मेघा हिमवन्तमिवोष्णगे

All of them became extremely angry and showered down many weapons on Arjuna, like clouds urged by the Marut-s surrounding the Himālaya-s at the end of summer.

वे सभी अत्यंत क्रोधित हो गए और उन्होंने अर्जुन पर अनेक अस्त्र-शस्त्रों की वर्षा की, जैसे ग्रीष्म ऋतु के अंत में मरुतों द्वारा प्रेरित बादल हिमालय को घेर लेते हैं।

अस्त्रैरस्त्राणि संवार्य द्विषतां सर्वतोऽर्जुनः सम्यगस्तैः शरैः सर्वान्सहितानहनद्बहून्

With his own weapons, Arjuna countered all the weapons of his enemies. He used many well-directed arrows to kill all those who meant to injure him.

अर्जुन ने अपने ही अस्त्रों से शत्रुओं के सभी अस्त्रों का मुकाबला किया। उसने उन सभी को मारने के लिए कई सुनिर्देशित बाणों का प्रयोग किया जो उसे घायल करना चाहते थे।

छिन्नत्रिवेणुजङ्घेषान्निहतपार्ष्णिसारथीन् संछिन्नरश्मियोक्त्राक्षान्व्यनुकर्षयुगान्रथान् विध्वस्तसर्वसंनाहान्बाणैश्चक्रेऽर्जुनस्त्वरन्

The triveṇu-s were shattered around their thighs. The pārṣṇi charioteers were killed. The harnesses were torn and the poles, axles, joints and yokes of chariots were shattered. Using his arrows, Arjuna swiftly destroyed all their equipment.

उनकी जाँघों के चारों ओर त्रिवेणु टूट गये। पारष्णि रथी मारे गये। रथों की रस्सियाँ टूट गईं और रथों के डंडे, धुरियाँ, जोड़ और जुए टूट गए। अर्जुन ने तेजी से अपने बाणों का उपयोग करके उनके सभी उपकरणों को नष्ट कर दिया।

ते रथास्तत्र विध्वस्ताः परार्ध्या भान्त्यनेकशः धनिनामिव वेश्मानि हतान्यग्न्यनिलाम्बुभिः

There were large numbers of chariots there, fragmented into pieces. They looked like the palaces of the rich, destroyed by the fire, the wind and the rain.

वहाँ बड़ी संख्या में रथ टुकड़ों में बंटे हुए थे। वे आग, हवा और बारिश से नष्ट हो गए अमीरों के महलों की तरह लग रहे थे।

द्विपाः संभिन्नमर्माणो वज्राशनिसमैः शरैः पेतुर्गिर्यग्रवेश्मानि वज्रवाताग्निभिर्यथा

Arrows that were like the vajra mangled the inner organs of the elephants and they fell down, resembling mansions on mountains destroyed by thunder, storm and fire.

वज्र के समान बाणों ने हाथियों के आंतरिक अंगों को क्षतिग्रस्त कर दिया और वे गरज, तूफान और आग से नष्ट हुए पहाड़ों पर बने मकानों के समान नीचे गिर पड़े।

सारोहास्तुरगाः पेतुर्बहवोऽर्जुनताडिताः निर्जिह्वान्त्राः क्षितौ क्षीणा रुधिरार्द्राः सुदुर्दृशः

Persecuted by Arjuna, large numbers of horses and riders fell down on the ground. Their tongues lolled out. Their entrails were plucked out. They were weak. They were covered in blood. They looked terrible.

अर्जुन द्वारा सताये जाने पर बड़ी संख्या में घोड़े और सवार भूमि पर गिर पड़े। उनकी जीभें बाहर निकल गईं. उनकी अंतड़ियाँ उखाड़ ली गईं। वे कमज़ोर थे. वे खून से लथपथ थे. वे भयानक लग रहे थे.

नराश्वनागा नाराचैः संस्यूताः सव्यसाचिना बभ्रमुश्चस्खलुः पेतुर्नेदुर्मम्लुश्च मारिष

Savyasachi's iron arrows struck men, horses and elephants. O venerable one! They tottered, shrieked, fell down and died.

सव्यसाची के लौह बाणों ने मनुष्यों, घोड़ों और हाथियों पर प्रहार किया। हे आदरणीय! वे लड़खड़ाये, चिल्लाये, गिरे और मर गये।

अणकैश्च शिलाधौतैर्वज्राशनिविषोपमैः शरैर्निजघ्निवान्पार्थो महेन्द्र इव दानवान्

Like the great Indra against the dānava-s, Pārtha killed the inferior ones with arrows that were sharpened on stone and were like the vajra or like virulent poison.

दानवों के विरुद्ध महान इंद्र की तरह, पार्थ ने पत्थर पर नुकीले और वज्र या विषैले जहर के समान तीरों से हीन लोगों को मार डाला।

महार्हवर्माभरणा नानारूपाम्बरायुधाः सरथाः सध्वजा वीरा हताः पार्थेन शेरते

There were brave ones, with extremely expensive armour and ornaments. They possessed diverse kinds of garments and weapons. With their chariots and their standards, they were slain by Pārtha and forced to lie down.

अत्यंत महंगे कवच और आभूषणों वाले बहादुर लोग थे। उनके पास विभिन्न प्रकार के वस्त्र और हथियार थे। रथों और ध्वजों सहित उन्हें पार्थ ने मार डाला और सो जाने को विवश कर दिया।

विजिताः पुण्यकर्माणो विशिष्टाभिजनश्रुताः गताः शरीरैर्वसुधामूर्जितैः कर्मभिर्दिवम्

They were the performers of pious deeds. They were distinguished and famous. Nevertheless, they were vanquished and died. They conquered heaven because of their deeds, but their bodies lay down on the ground.

वे पवित्र कर्म करने वाले थे। वे प्रतिष्ठित एवं प्रसिद्ध थे। फिर भी, वे पराजित हुए और मर गये। उन्होंने अपने कर्मों के कारण स्वर्ग पर विजय प्राप्त की, परन्तु उनके शरीर भूमि पर पड़े रहे।

अथार्जुनरथं वीरास्त्वदीयाः समुपाद्रवन् नानाजनपदाध्यक्षाः सगणा जातमन्यवः

The brave ones on your side attacked Arjuna's chariot. They were the leaders of many different countries and they, and their followers, were full of rage.

आपके पक्ष के वीरों ने अर्जुन के रथ पर आक्रमण कर दिया। वे कई अलग-अलग देशों के नेता थे और वे और उनके अनुयायी क्रोध से भरे हुए थे।

उह्यमाना रथाश्वैस्ते पत्तयश्च जिघांसवः समभ्यधावन्नस्यन्तो विविधं क्षिप्रमायुधम्

They were on chariots and horses and the foot soldiers also desired to kill him. They quickly rushed against him, with many different kinds of weapons.

वे रथों और घोड़ों पर सवार थे और पैदल सैनिक भी उसे मार डालना चाहते थे। वे अनेक प्रकार के अस्त्र-शस्त्र लेकर शीघ्रता से उस पर टूट पड़े।

तदायुधमहावर्षं क्षिप्तं योधमहाम्बुदैः व्यधमन्निशितैर्बाणैः क्षिप्रमर्जुनमारुतः

Those warriors angrily showered down a large number of weapons, as if from a giant cloud. However, like the wind, Arjuna swiftly dispelled them with his sharp arrows.

उन योद्धाओं ने क्रोधपूर्वक बड़ी संख्या में हथियारों की वर्षा की, मानो किसी विशाल बादल से। हालाँकि, हवा की तरह, अर्जुन ने तेजी से अपने तीखे बाणों से उन्हें दूर कर दिया।

साश्वपत्तिद्विपरथं महाशस्त्रौघमप्लवम् सहसा संतितीर्षन्तं पार्थं शस्त्रास्त्रसेतुना

Using his own weapons as a bridge, Pārtha violently crossed that large and boatless ocean of weapons, horses, infantry, elephants and chariots.

पार्थ ने अपने अस्त्रों को पुल की तरह उपयोग करते हुए अस्त्रों, घोड़ों, पैदल सेना, हाथियों और रथों के उस विशाल और नाव रहित समुद्र को हिंसक तरीके से पार कर लिया।

अथाब्रवीद्वासुदेवः पार्थं किं क्रीडसेऽनघ संशप्तकान्प्रमथ्यैतांस्ततः कर्णवधे त्वर

Vāsudeva spoke to him. "O Pārtha! O unblemished one! Why are you toying with them? Crush the saṃśaptaka-s and make haste towards Karṇa's death."

वासुदेव ने उनसे बात की. "हे पार्थ! हे निष्कलंक! तुम उनके साथ क्यों खिलवाड़ कर रहे हो? संशप्तकों को कुचल दो और कर्ण की मृत्यु के लिए शीघ्रता करो।"

तथेत्युक्त्वार्जुनः क्षिप्रं शिष्टान्संशप्तकांस्तदा आक्षिप्य शस्त्रेण बलाद्दैत्यानिन्द्र इवावधीत्

Having been thus addressed, Arjuna swiftly struck the remaining saṃśaptaka-s. He powerfully unleashed his weapons and killed them, like Indra against the daitya-s.

इस प्रकार संबोधित किये जाने पर, अर्जुन ने तेजी से शेष संशप्तकों पर प्रहार किया। उसने शक्तिशाली ढंग से अपने हथियार निकाले और उन्हें मार डाला, जैसे इंद्र ने दैत्यों के खिलाफ किया था।

आदधत्संदधन्नेषून्दृष्टः कैश्चिद्रणेऽर्जुनः विमुञ्चन्वा शराञ्शीघ्रं दृश्यते स्म हि कैरपि

In that battle, no one could distinguish when Arjuna took out an arrow, affixed it and released it. He was that swift.

उस युद्ध में अर्जुन ने कब बाण निकाला, बाण लगाया और छोड़ दिया, इसका किसी को पता नहीं चल सका। वह इतना तेज था.

आश्चर्यमिति गोविन्दो ब्रुवन्नश्वानचोदयत् हंसांसगौरास्ते सेनां हंसाः सर इवाविशन्

As he goaded his horses, Govinda himself said that it was extraordinary. As they penetrated the soldiers, his arrows were like white and swift swans diving into a lake.

जैसे ही उन्होंने अपने घोड़ों को आगे बढ़ाया, गोविंदा ने खुद कहा कि यह असाधारण था। जैसे ही वे सैनिकों में घुसे, उनके तीर झील में गोता लगाने वाले सफेद और तेज़ हंसों की तरह थे।

ततः संग्रामभूमिं तां वर्तमाने जनक्षये अवेक्षमाणो गोविन्दः सव्यसाचिनमब्रवीत्

The field of battle was full of the destruction of men. On seeing this, Govinda spoke to Savyasachi.

युद्ध का मैदान मनुष्यों के विनाश से भरा हुआ था। यह देखकर गोविंदा ने सव्यसाची से बात की।

एष पार्थ महारौद्रो वर्तते भरतक्षयः पृथिव्यां पार्थिवानां वै दुर्योधनकृते महान्

"O Pārtha! A great and extremely terrible destruction of the Bhārata-s, the earth and the kings is going on. This is because of Duryodhana's extremely evil deeds.

"हे पार्थ! भरत, पृथ्वी और राजाओं का महान और अत्यंत भयानक विनाश हो रहा है। यह दुर्योधन के अत्यंत बुरे कर्मों के कारण है।

पश्य भारत चापानि रुक्मपृष्ठानि धन्विनाम् महतामपविद्धानि कलापानिषुधीस्तथा

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Behold the bows, with golden backs, of the archers. The large armour and quivers have been dislodged.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! धनुर्धारियों के सुनहरी पीठ वाले धनुषों को देखो। बड़े-बड़े कवच और तरकश उखाड़ दिये गये हैं।

जातरूपमयैः पुङ्खैः शरांश्च नतपर्वणः तैलधौतांश्च नाराचान्निर्मुक्तानिव पन्नगान्

The arrows have drooping tufts and the tufts are made out of gold. The iron arrows have been washed in oil and are like snakes that have cast off their skins.

तीरों में झुके हुए गुच्छे हैं और गुच्छे सोने के बने हैं। लोहे के तीर तेल में धुले हुए हैं और केंचुल उतारे हुए साँपों के समान हैं।

हस्तिदन्तत्सरून्खड्गाञ्जातरूपपरिष्कृतान् आकीर्णांस्तोमरांश्चापांश्चित्रान्हेमविभूषितान्

The place is strewn with colourful lances and bows that are decorated in gold. The swords have handles of ivory and are embellished in gold.

यह स्थान रंग-बिरंगे भालों और धनुषों से बिखरा हुआ है जो सोने से सजाए गए हैं। तलवारों के हैंडल हाथी दांत के हैं और सोने से अलंकृत हैं।

वर्माणि चापविद्धानि रुक्मपृष्ठानि भारत सुवर्णविकृतान्प्रासाञ्शक्तीः कनकभूषिताः

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! The armour and sheaths for the bows possess golden backs. The lances and spears are embellished with gold and are also decorated in gold.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! धनुष के कवच और म्यानों की पीठ सुनहरी होती है। भाले और भाले सोने से अलंकृत हैं और इन्हें भी सोने से सजाया गया है।

जाम्बूनदमयैः पट्टैर्बद्धाश्च विपुला गदाः जातरूपमयीश्चर्ष्टीः पट्टिशान्हेमभूषितान्

The giant clubs are tied in garments that are decorated with gold. The handles of the swords are made out of gold and the battleaxes are also embellished in gold.

विशाल क्लबों को सोने से सजाए गए परिधानों में बांधा गया है। तलवारों के हैंडल सोने से बने होते हैं और युद्ध कुल्हाड़ियों को भी सोने से सजाया जाता है।

दण्डैः कनकचित्रैश्च विप्रविद्धान्परश्वधान् अयस्कुशान्तान्पतितान्मुसलानि गुरूणि च

The handles of the scattered battleaxes are ornamented in gold. Lances made of iron and heavy bludgeons have fallen down.

बिखरी हुई युद्धकुल्हाड़ियों के हैंडल सोने से अलंकृत हैं। लोहे के बने भाले और भारी गठरी नीचे गिर गये हैं।

शतघ्नीः पश्य चित्राश्च विपुलान्परिघांस्तथा चक्राणि चापविद्धानि मुद्गरांश्च बहून्रणे

Behold the colourful śataghnī-s and the large maces. There are many cakra-s and clubs that have been scattered around in this battle.

रंग-बिरंगे शतघ्नी-एस और बड़ी गदाओं को देखो। इस युद्ध में बहुत से चक्र और गदाएँ इधर-उधर बिखरी हुई हैं।

नानाविधानि शस्त्राणि प्रगृह्य जयगृद्धिनः जीवन्त इव लक्ष्यन्ते गतसत्त्वास्तरस्विनः

There are many kinds of weapons that were grasped by the ones who desired victory. Their bodies have been crushed by clubs and bludgeons and their heads have been smashed.

ऐसे कई प्रकार के हथियार हैं जिन्हें विजय की इच्छा रखने वालों ने पकड़ लिया था। उनके शरीरों को लाठियों और डंडों से कुचल दिया गया है और उनके सिर तोड़ दिये गये हैं।

गदाविमथितैर्गात्रैर्मुसलैर्भिन्नमस्तकान् गजवाजिरथक्षुण्णान्पश्य योधान्सहस्रशः

Behold the thousands of elephants, horses, chariots and warriors who have been destroyed.

उन हजारों हाथियों, घोड़ों, रथों और योद्धाओं को देखो जो नष्ट हो गये हैं।

मनुष्यगजवाजीनां शरशक्त्यृष्टितोमरैः निस्त्रिंशैः पट्टिशैः प्रासैर्नखरैर्लगुडैरपि

Men, elephants and horses have been struck with arrows, lances, swords, spears, scimitars, javelins, spikes, nails and bludgeons.

पुरुषों, हाथियों और घोड़ों को तीरों, भालों, तलवारों, भालों, कैंची, भाले, कीलों, कीलों और डंडों से मारा गया है।

शरीरैर्बहुधा भिन्नैः शोणितौघपरिप्लुतैः गतासुभिरमित्रघ्न संवृता रणभूमयः

Their bodies have been mangled in many ways and they are covered in blood. O destroyer of enemies! They have lost their lives and are strewn around in this field of battle.

बाहुभिश्चन्दनादिग्धैः साङ्गदैः शुभभूषणैः सतलत्रैः सकेयूरैर्भाति भारत मेदिनी

Their arms are smeared with sandalwood paste and adorned with armlets and sparkling ornaments. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! The earth is resplendent with arm-guards and bracelets.

उनकी भुजाएँ चंदन से सजी हुई हैं और बाजूबंद और चमकदार आभूषणों से सुशोभित हैं। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! पृथ्वी भुजाओं और कंकणों से शोभायमान है।

साङ्गुलित्रैर्भुजाग्रैश्च विप्रविद्धैरलंकृतैः हस्तिहस्तोपमैश्छिन्नैरूरुभिश्च तरस्विनाम्

The ornamented tips of the hands, with finger-guards, are scattered around. The thighs of those swift warriors, which were like trunks of elephants, are now shattered.

हाथों की अलंकृत युक्तियाँ, अंगुलियों के पहरेदारों के साथ, चारों ओर बिखरी हुई हैं। उन वेगशाली योद्धाओं की जाँघें, जो हाथियों की सूंडों के समान थीं, अब छिन्न-भिन्न हो गयीं।

बद्धचूडामणिवरैः शिरोभिश्च सकुण्डलैः निकृत्तैर्वृषभाक्षाणां विराजति वसुंधरा

The supreme heads sport gems on the headdresses and wear earrings. Those with eyes like bulls have been brought down and the earth looks dazzling.

सर्वोच्च मुखिया सिर पर रत्न धारण करते हैं और बालियाँ पहनते हैं। बैल जैसी आँखों वाले लोग नीचे गिरा दिये गये हैं और पृथ्वी चकाचौंध दिखाई देती है।

कबन्धैः शोणितादिग्धैश्छिन्नगात्रशिरोधरैः भूर्भाति भरतश्रेष्ठ शान्तार्चिर्भिरिवाग्निभिः

There are headless torsos covered in blood, since the heads have been severed from the bodies. O foremost among the Bhārata lineage! They are scattered on the ground and it is as if the fiery flames of the fire have been pacified.

वहां खून से लथपथ बिना सिर वाले धड़ हैं, क्योंकि सिर शरीर से अलग कर दिए गए हैं। हे भरत वंश में अग्रणी! वे जमीन पर बिखरे हुए हैं और ऐसा लग रहा है मानो आग की तेज लपटें शांत हो गई हों.

रथान्बहुविधान्भग्नान्हेमकिङ्किणिनः शुभान् अश्वांश्च बहुधा पश्य शोणितेन परिप्लुतान्

Many kinds of chariots, with sparkling golden bells, have been shattered. Behold the many horses, covered in blood.

चमचमाती सुनहरी घंटियों वाले अनेक प्रकार के रथ चकनाचूर हो गए हैं। खून से लथपथ कई घोड़ों को देखो।

योधानां च महाशङ्खान्पाण्डुरांश्च प्रकीर्णकान् निरस्तजिह्वान्मातङ्गाञ्शयानान्पर्वतोपमान्

The place is strewn with the white and giant conch shells of the warriors. As they lie down like mountains, the tongues of the elephants are lolling out.

यह स्थान योद्धाओं के सफेद और विशाल शंखों से बिखरा हुआ है। जैसे ही वे पहाड़ों की तरह लेटे हुए हैं, हाथियों की जीभ बाहर की ओर लपलपा रही है।

वैजयन्तीविचित्रांश्च हतांश्च गजयोधिनः वारणानां परिस्तोमान्सुयुक्ताम्बरकम्बलान्

Sporting colourful flags of victory, warriors who fought on horses and elephants have been slain. There are excellent cushions, covers and blankets from the elephants.

विजय की रंग-बिरंगी पताकाएँ लहराते हुए, घोड़ों और हाथियों पर सवार योद्धा मारे गए। हाथियों के उत्कृष्ट तकिये, आवरण और कम्बल हैं।

विपाटिता विचित्राश्च रूपचित्राः कुथास्तथा भिन्नाश्च बहुधा घण्टाः पतद्भिश्चूर्णिता गजैः

They are diverse and have been uprooted. So have the colourful and varied housings. Many bells have been broken, crushed by the feet of the elephants.

वे विविध हैं और उखाड़ दिए गए हैं। रंगीन और विविध आवास भी हैं। कई घंटियाँ टूट गयी हैं, हाथियों के पैरों से कुचल गयी हैं।

वैडूर्यमणिदण्डांश्च पतितानङ्कुशान्भुवि बद्धाः सादिध्वजाग्रेषु सुवर्णविकृताः कशाः

Staffs and goads decorated with lapis lazuli have fallen down on the ground. Harnesses were decorated with gold and so were the tips of the standards that the riders possessed.

लापीस लाजुली से सजाए गए कर्मचारी और बकरे जमीन पर गिर गए हैं। हार्नेस को सोने से सजाया गया था और सवारों के पास मौजूद मानकों की नोकें भी सोने से सजी हुई थीं।

विचित्रान्मणिचित्रांश्च जातरूपपरिष्कृतान् अश्वास्तरपरिस्तोमान्राङ्कवान्पतितान्भुवि

They were colourful with many kinds of gems and were polished in gold. From the horses, cushions and covers made out of the skin of raṅku deer have fallen down on the ground.

वे अनेक प्रकार के रत्नों से रंगे हुए थे और सोने से चमकाए गए थे। घोड़ों के पास से रंकु हिरण की खाल से बने गद्दे और कवर जमीन पर गिर गए हैं।

चूडामणीन्नरेन्द्राणां विचित्राः काञ्चनस्रजः छत्राणि चापविद्धानि चामरव्यजनानि च

The lords among men had gems on their headdresses and golden garlands. Umbrellas are scattered around and so are fans and whisks.

मनुष्यों के सरदारों के सिर पर रत्न और सोने की मालाएँ थीं। चारों ओर छतरियाँ बिखरी हुई हैं और पंखे तथा फुसियाँ भी बिखरी हुई हैं।

चन्द्रनक्षत्रभासैश्च वदनैश्चारुकुण्डलैः कॢप्तश्मश्रुभिरत्यर्थं वीराणां समलंकृतैः वदनैः पश्य संछन्नां महीं शोणितकर्दमाम्

Their faces have beautiful earrings and are as beautiful as the moon or nakṣatra-s. The brave ones are ornamented and their beards have been clipped. Behold. Their heads are scattered around on the ground, in the mire created by blood.

उनके चेहरों पर सुंदर कुण्डल हैं और वे चंद्रमा या नक्षत्र के समान सुंदर हैं। बहादुरों को अलंकृत किया गया है और उनकी दाढ़ियाँ काट दी गई हैं। देखो. उनके सिर खून से बनी कीचड़ में, ज़मीन पर इधर-उधर बिखरे पड़े हैं।

सजीवांश्च नरान्पश्य कूजमानान्समन्ततः उपास्यमानान्बहुभिर्न्यस्तशस्त्रैर्विशां पते

Behold. The men who are still alive are lamenting in every direction. O lord of the earth! There are many who are honouring you and others have been killed by your weapons.

देखो. जो मनुष्य अभी भी जीवित हैं वे सब ओर त्राहि-त्राहि कर रहे हैं। हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! ऐसे बहुत से लोग हैं जो आपका सम्मान कर रहे हैं और अन्य लोग आपके हथियारों से मारे गये हैं।

ज्ञातिभिः सहितैस्तत्र रोदमानैर्मुहुर्मुहुः व्युत्क्रान्तानपरान्योधांश्छादयित्वा तरस्विनः पुनर्युद्धाय गच्छन्ति जयगृद्धाः प्रमन्यवः

With their relatives, they are repeatedly lamenting there. Though they have been routed, there are some spirited warriors with angry faces. Driven by anger and desiring victory, they wish to advance and fight again.

वे अपने परिजनों के साथ बार-बार वहीं विलाप कर रहे हैं। हालाँकि उन्हें पराजित कर दिया गया है, फिर भी क्रोधित चेहरों वाले कुछ उत्साही योद्धा हैं। क्रोध से प्रेरित होकर और जीत की इच्छा से, वे आगे बढ़ना और फिर से लड़ना चाहते हैं।

अपरे तत्र तत्रैव परिधावन्ति मानिनः ज्ञातिभिः पतितैः शूरैर्याच्यमानास्तथोदकम्

However, there are other proud ones who are fleeing from the spot. Their relatives have fallen down and desire water from those brave ones.

हालांकि, कुछ और भी दंबग हैं जो मौके से भाग रहे हैं. उनके परिजन गिरे हुए हैं और उन वीरों से जल की इच्छा रखते हैं।

जलार्थं च गताः केचिन्निष्प्राणा बहवोऽर्जुन संनिवृत्ताश्च ते शूरास्तान्दृष्ट्वैव विचेतसः

O Arjuna! Some have gone in search of water and there are many who have lost their lives. It can be seen that those brave ones have lost their senses and are retreating.

हे अर्जुन! कुछ लोग पानी की तलाश में निकले हैं और कई ऐसे भी हैं जिन्होंने अपनी जान गंवा दी है. देखा जा सकता है कि वे वीर अपने होश खो बैठे हैं और पीछे हट रहे हैं.

जलं दृष्ट्वा प्रधावन्ति क्रोशमानाः परस्परम् जलं पीत्वा मृतान्पश्य पिबतोऽन्यांश्च भारत

Having seen water, they are rushing to the spot, shouting at each other. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Behold the ones who have expired after drinking water and the others who are drinking.

पानी देखकर वे एक-दूसरे पर चिल्लाते हुए घटनास्थल की ओर दौड़ रहे हैं। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! जो पानी पीकर मर गये हैं और जो पी रहे हैं, उन्हें देखो।

परित्यज्य प्रियानन्ये बान्धवान्बान्धवप्रिय व्युत्क्रान्ताः समदृश्यन्त तत्र तत्र महारणे

Others have abandoned their beloved ones, their beloved relatives, kith and kin. In the great battle, they can be seen to be running around, here and there.

दूसरों ने अपने प्रियजनों, अपने प्रिय रिश्तेदारों, रिश्तेदारों और संबंधियों को त्याग दिया है। महासंग्राम में वे इधर-उधर भागते हुए देखे जा सकते हैं।

पश्यापरान्नरश्रेष्ठ संदष्टौष्ठपुटान्पुनः भ्रुकुटीकुटिलैर्वक्त्रैः प्रेक्षमाणान्समन्ततः

O foremost among men! Behold the others. They are repeatedly gnashing their teeth and biting their lips.

हे मनुष्यों में श्रेष्ठ! दूसरों को देखो. वे बार-बार अपने दांत पीस रहे हैं और अपने होठों को काट रहे हैं।

एतत्तवैवानुरूपं कर्मार्जुन महाहवे दिवि वा देवराजस्य त्वया यत्कृतमाहवे

O Arjuna! In the great battle today, these are the deeds that you have performed. The deeds performed by you in the battle are like those of the king of the gods, or those who live in heaven."

हे अर्जुन! आज के महासंग्राम में आपने ये ही कर्म किये हैं। युद्ध में आपके द्वारा किए गए कर्म देवताओं के राजा या स्वर्ग में रहने वालों के समान हैं।"

एवं तां दर्शयन्कृष्णो युद्धभूमिं किरीटिने गच्छन्नेवाशृणोच्छब्दं दुर्योधनबले महत्

In this way, Kṛṣṇā showed Kirīṭī the field of battle. As they were returning, they heard a loud noise from Duryodhana's army.

इस प्रकार कृष्ण ने किरीटी को युद्ध का मैदान दिखाया। जब वे वापस लौट रहे थे तो उन्हें दुर्योधन की सेना का ज़ोरदार शोर सुनाई दिया।

शङ्खदुन्दुभिनिर्घोषान्भेरीपणवमिश्रितान् रथाश्वगजनादांश्च शस्त्रशब्दांश्च दारुणान्

It was mixed with the blaring of conch shells and the beating of drums and kettledrums and mingled with the fierce sound of weapons and roars of chariots, horses and elephants.

यह शंखों की ध्वनि और ढोल-नगाड़ों की थाप के साथ मिश्रित था और हथियारों की भीषण ध्वनि और रथों, घोड़ों और हाथियों की गर्जना के साथ मिश्रित था।

प्रविश्य तद्बलं कृष्णस्तुरगैर्वातवेगिभिः पाण्ड्येनाभ्यर्दितां सेनां त्वदीयां वीक्ष्य धिष्ठितः

Borne by horses that were as fast as the wind, Kṛṣṇā penetrated that army and was surprised to see that your army was being crushed by Pāṇḍya.

हवा के समान तेज़ घोड़ों पर सवार होकर, कृष्ण उस सेना में घुस गए और यह देखकर आश्चर्यचकित रह गए कि आपकी सेना पांड्य द्वारा कुचली जा रही थी।

स हि नानाविधैर्बाणैरिष्वासप्रवरो युधि न्यहनद्द्विषतां व्रातान्गतासूनन्तको यथा

That foremost among warriors was using many different kinds of arrows. He was slaying the enemy, like Yāma among those whose life has run out.

योद्धाओं में श्रेष्ठ वह अनेक प्रकार के बाणों का प्रयोग कर रहा था। वह उन शत्रुओं को मार रहा था, जैसे यम उन लोगों को मार रहे थे जिनके प्राण समाप्त हो चुके हैं।

गजवाजिमनुष्याणां शरीराणि शितैः शरैः भित्त्वा प्रहरतां श्रेष्ठो विदेहासूंश्चकार सः

The foremost among strikers was mangling the bodies of elephants, horses and men with his sharp arrows and was robbing them of their bodies.

प्रहार करने वालों में सबसे प्रमुख अपने तीखे बाणों से हाथियों, घोड़ों और मनुष्यों के शरीरों को क्षत-विक्षत कर रहा था और उनके शरीरों को लूट रहा था।

शत्रुप्रवीरैरस्तानि नानाशस्त्राणि सायकैः भित्त्वा तानहनत्पाण्ड्यः शत्रूञ्शक्र इवासुरान्

With many weapons and arrows, he was piercing heroes among the enemy. Pāṇḍya was killing the enemy, like Śākra against the āsura-s.

वह अनेक अस्त्र-शस्त्रों तथा बाणों से शत्रुओं में वीरों को बींध रहा था। पाण्ड्य शत्रु को मार रहे थे, जैसे शक्र असुरों के विरुद्ध।
