Sañjaya said: O king! The Kuru-s were driven away by Karṇa, whose chariot possessed white horses. Using great arrows, the son of a sūta slew the sons of the Pāñcāla-s, like a storm dispelling large masses of clouds.
संजय ने कहा: हे राजा! कौरवों को कर्ण ने खदेड़ दिया था, जिनके रथ में सफेद घोड़े थे। सूतपुत्र ने महान बाणों का प्रयोग करके पंचालों के पुत्रों को उसी प्रकार मार डाला, जैसे तूफान बड़े-बड़े बादलों को छिन्न-भिन्न कर देता है।

आंजलिका बाण से उसने जनमेजय के सारथी को उसके रथ से नीचे गिरा दिया और उसके घोड़ों को मार डाला। उसने शतानीक और सुतसोम को चौड़े सिर वाले बाणों से घेर लिया और उनके धनुष काट दिये।
In the battle, he pierced Dhṛṣṭadyumna with six arrows and slew the horses that were on his right flank. The son of a sūta next killed Sātyaki's horses and also slew Viśokā, the son of Kekaya.

When that prince was killed, Ugradhanva, the general of the Kekaya-s, attacked him. He used many arrows that were fierce and forceful and severely struck Karṇa's son, Suṣeṇa.
जब वह राजकुमार मारा गया तो केकय के सेनापति उग्रधन्वा ने उस पर हमला कर दिया। उन्होंने अनेक भयंकर और शक्तिशाली बाणों का प्रयोग किया और कर्ण के पुत्र सुषेण को गंभीर रूप से घायल कर दिया।

कर्ण हँसा। उसने अर्धचन्द्र के आकार के तीन बाणों का प्रयोग करके उसकी भुजाएँ और सिर काट दिये। अपने प्राण खोकर वह अपने रथ से नीचे गिर पड़ा, जैसे कुल्हाड़ी से गिरा हुआ शाल वृक्ष नष्ट हो जाता है।
The horses of the foremost among the Śini-s had been slain. Suṣeṇa, the grandson of a sūta, enveloped him with sharp arrows and seemed to be dancing around. However, he was struck by the arrows of Śini's descendant and fell down.
सिनी-एस में सबसे प्रमुख के घोड़े मारे गए थे। सूत के पोते सुषेण ने उसे तीखे बाणों से घेर लिया और चारों ओर नाचता हुआ प्रतीत हुआ। हालाँकि, वह सिनी के वंशज के तीरों से मारा गया और नीचे गिर गया।
When his son was killed, Karṇa became senseless with rage and wished to kill Śini's descendant, bull among men. He said, "O descendant of Śini's lineage! You have been killed." He released an arrow that was capable of killing all enemies.

He then pierced Śikhaṇḍī with six fierce arrows. He next severed the head of Dhṛṣṭadyumna's son. Adhiratha's great-souled son then mangled Sutasoma with an extremely sharp arrow.
फिर उन्होंने छह भयंकर बाणों से शिखंडी को घायल कर दिया। इसके बाद उसने धृष्टद्युम्न के पुत्र का सिर काट दिया। तब अधिरथ के महाबली पुत्र ने अत्यंत तीक्ष्ण बाण से सुतसोम को घायल कर दिया।
"O lion among men! While that tumultuous battle was going on and Dhṛṣṭadyumna's son had been killed, Kṛṣṇā said, 'O Pārtha! He is eliminating the Pāñcāla-s. Go and kill Karṇa."
"हे नर सिंह! जब वह उग्र युद्ध चल रहा था और धृष्टद्युम्न का पुत्र मारा गया था, कृष्ण ने कहा, 'हे पार्थ! वह पंचालों को नष्ट कर रहा है। जाओ और कर्ण को मार डालो।"
Thus addressed, that foremost of men laughed and advanced swiftly on his chariot towards the chariot of Adhiratha's son. The one with excellent arms wished to save those who were frightened and were being killed by that leader of rāṭha-s.
इस प्रकार संबोधित करते हुए, पुरुषों में श्रेष्ठ व्यक्ति हंसा और तेजी से अपने रथ पर सवार होकर अधिरथ के पुत्र के रथ की ओर बढ़ा। उत्कृष्ट भुजाओं वाला वह व्यक्ति उन लोगों की रक्षा करना चाहता था जो डरे हुए थे और रथ-नायक द्वारा मारे जा रहे थे।
He stretched Gāṇḍīva with a twang that was loud and terrible. He rubbed the bowstring fiercely. He suddenly created darkness with his arrows and destroyed elephants, horses, chariots and men.

Bhīmasena, the brave one among the Pāṇḍava-s, followed him on his chariot and protected his rear. Those two princes quickly advanced on their chariots towards Karṇa, releasing arrows at the enemy.

During that time, the son of a sūta fought mightily, crushing the Somaka-s in the battle. He destroyed large numbers of chariots, horses and elephants and enveloped the directions with his arrows.
उस समय, सूत के पुत्र ने युद्ध में सोमकों को कुचलते हुए, पराक्रमपूर्वक युद्ध किया। उसने बड़ी संख्या में रथों, घोड़ों और हाथियों को नष्ट कर दिया और दिशाओं को अपने बाणों से घेर लिया।
Uttamouja, Janamejaya, the enraged Yudhāmanyu and Śikhaṇḍī united with Pārṣata. They roared loudly and mangled Karṇa with many arrows.
उत्तमौजा, जनमेजय, क्रोधित युधामन्यु और शिखंडी परशत के साथ एकजुट हो गए। उन्होंने बड़े जोर से गर्जना की और अनेक बाणों से कर्ण को घायल कर दिया।

Those five Pāñcāla rāṭha-s attacked Vaikartaṇa Karṇa extremely well, but were incapable of dislodging him from his chariot, just as the senses cannot overpower a patient and self-controlled person.

उनका धनुष शक्र के धनुष के समान था। उसका उपयोग करके अधिरथ के पुत्र ने भयंकर बाण चलाये। वह युद्ध में किरणों की माला से घिरे हुए, चमकते हुए सूर्य चक्र के समान देदीप्यमान था।
He pierced Śikhaṇḍī with twelve sharp arrows and the rāṭha Uttamouja with six. He pierced Yudhāmanyu with three sharp arrows and the sons of Somaka and Pṛṣata each with three arrows.
उन्होंने शिखंडी को बारह तीखे बाणों से और रथ उत्तमौजा को छह बाणों से घायल कर दिया। उन्होंने युधामन्यु को तीन तीखे बाणों से तथा सोमक और पृषत के पुत्रों को तीन-तीन बाणों से घायल कर दिया।
O venerable one! In the great battle, those five mahāratha-s were defeated by the son of a sūta. They were rendered immobile by that scorcher of enemies, just as the senses are vanquished by one with a controlled soul.
हे आदरणीय! महान् युद्ध में वे पाँचों महारथी एक सूतपुत्र द्वारा पराजित हो गये। जिस प्रकार वश में किये गये आत्मा से इन्द्रियाँ नष्ट हो जाती हैं, उसी प्रकार शत्रुओं के उस ताप से वे निश्चल हो गये।
They were submerged in the ocean that was Karṇa, like distressed merchants on an ocean. Draupadī's son rescued their maternal uncles with well-prepared chariots, like providing boats on an ocean.
वे कर्ण रूपी समुद्र में डूबे हुए थे, जैसे समुद्र में व्यथित व्यापारी। द्रौपदी के पुत्र ने अपने मामाओं को अच्छी तरह से तैयार रथों से बचाया, जैसे समुद्र में नावें प्रदान की जाती हैं।
The bull among the Śini lineage used his sharp arrows to slice down the many arrows that Karṇa shot. He struck Karṇa with sharp and iron arrows and pierced his eldest son with eight arrows.
शिनि वंश के बैल ने कर्ण द्वारा चलाए गए कई तीरों को काटने के लिए अपने तीखे तीरों का इस्तेमाल किया। उसने कर्ण पर तीखे और लोहे के बाणों से प्रहार किया और उसके ज्येष्ठ पुत्र को आठ बाणों से घायल कर दिया।

His bow roared continuously and he showered down extremely fierce arrows. Sātyaki became invincible, like the midday sun in the autumn sky.
उनका धनुष निरंतर गर्जना करता रहा और वे अत्यंत भयंकर बाणों की वर्षा करते रहे। सात्यकि शरद ऋतु के आकाश में दोपहर के सूर्य के समान अजेय हो गये।
Those rāṭha-s armoured themselves well and again attacked, desiring to protect the foremost one from the Śini lineage. The rāṭha-s from Pāñcāla united in that great battle, like large numbers of Marut surrounding Śākra, when he was afflicting the enemy.
उन रथियों ने अपने आप को अच्छी तरह से कवच से सुसज्जित किया और शिनि वंश के सबसे बड़े रथ की रक्षा करने की इच्छा से फिर से हमला किया। पंचाल के रथ उस महान युद्ध में एकजुट हुए, जैसे बड़ी संख्या में मरुत ने शक्र को घेर लिया था, जब वह शत्रु को पीड़ित कर रहा था।
An extremely terrible encounter commenced between them and those on your side who were engaged in your welfare. It was like an ancient one between gods and āsura-s and destroyed chariots, horses and elephants.

At that time, without any fear, your son, the younger brother of the king, showered arrows and advanced against Bhīmā. Vṛkodara spiritedly encountered him, like a lion leaping on a large ruru deer.
उस समय राजा का छोटा भाई आपका पुत्र बिना किसी भय के बाणों की वर्षा करके भीम पर आक्रमण करने के लिये आगे बढ़ा। वृकोदर ने उत्साहपूर्वक उसका सामना किया, जैसे एक शेर एक बड़े रुरु हिरण पर छलांग लगा रहा हो।
The battle between them was superhuman and was like a gambling match, with lives as stakes. They attacked each other fiercely and angrily, like Śākra and Śambara in earlier times.

With two kṣurapra arrows, Vṛkodara severed the bow and the standard of your son. He struck him in the forehead with an arrow and severed his charioteer's head from his body.
वृकोदर ने दो क्षुरप्र बाणों से आपके पुत्र का धनुष तथा ध्वज काट डाला। उसने उसके माथे पर बाण मारकर उसके सारथी का सिर धड़ से अलग कर दिया।

The prince picked up another bow and struck Vṛkodara with twelve arrows. He controlled the reins of the horses himself and again rained down arrows on Bhīmā.
राजकुमार ने दूसरा धनुष उठाया और वृकोदर पर बारह बाण मारे। उन्होंने घोड़ों की लगाम स्वयं नियंत्रित की और भीम पर फिर से बाणों की वर्षा की।
