संजय उवाच अथ त्विदानीं तुमुले विमर्दे; द्विषद्भिरेको बहुभिः समावृतः महाभये सारथिमित्युवाच; भीमश्चमूं वारयन्धार्तराष्ट्रीम् त्वं सारथे याहि जवेन वाहै;र्नयाम्येतान्धार्तराष्ट्रान्यमाय

Sañjaya said: While that tumultuous engagement was going on, Bhīmā was fighting alone and countering the army of the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra. He was surrounded by large numbers of the enemy. In that situation of great fear, he told his charioteer, "O charioteer! Bear me swiftly on these horses. I will send all the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra to Yāma."

संजय ने कहा: जब वह उथल-पुथल भरी लड़ाई चल रही थी, भीम अकेले लड़ रहे थे और धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्रों की सेना का मुकाबला कर रहे थे। वह बड़ी संख्या में शत्रुओं से घिरा हुआ था। अत्यंत भय की उस स्थिति में, उन्होंने अपने सारथी से कहा, "हे सारथी! मुझे इन घोड़ों पर तेजी से ले चलो। मैं धृतराष्ट्र के सभी पुत्रों को यम के पास भेज दूंगा।"

संचोदितो भीमसेनेन चैवं; स सारथिः पुत्रबलं त्वदीयम् प्रायात्ततः सारथिरुग्रवेगो; यतो भीमस्तद्बलं गन्तुमैच्छत्

Having been thus addressed by Bhīmasena, the charioteer advanced with a fierce speed against the army of your son, that is, towards the army that Bhīmā wished to advance against.

भीमसेन द्वारा इस प्रकार कहे जाने पर सारथी आपके पुत्र की सेना के विरुद्ध अर्थात् उस सेना की ओर, जिसके विरुद्ध भीम बढ़ना चाहता था, तीव्र गति से आगे बढ़ा।

ततोऽपरे नागरथाश्वपत्तिभिः; प्रत्युद्ययुः कुरवस्तं समन्तात् भीमस्य वाहाग्र्यमुदारवेगं; समन्ततो बाणगणैर्निजघ्नुः

A large number of Kuru-s advanced against him from every direction and the enemy possessed elephants, chariots, horses and foot soldiers. With innumerable arrows, they powerfully struck the best of horses from every side.

हर दिशा से बड़ी संख्या में कुरु उसके विरुद्ध आगे बढ़े और शत्रु के पास हाथी, रथ, घोड़े और पैदल सैनिक थे। उन्होंने असंख्य बाणों से सभी ओर से सर्वश्रेष्ठ घोड़ों को शक्तिशाली तरीके से घायल कर दिया।

ततः शरानापततो महात्मा; चिच्छेद बाणैस्तपनीयपुङ्खैः ते वै निपेतुस्तपनीयपुङ्खा; द्विधा त्रिधा भीमशरैर्निकृत्ताः

The great-souled one severed those descending arrows with his gold-tufted arrows. Those gold-tufted arrows were severed into two and three fragments by the arrows released by Bhīmā and fell down.

महाबली ने अपने स्वर्णजटित बाणों से उन नीचे की ओर आने वाले बाणों को काट डाला। भीम के छोड़े हुए बाणों से वे स्वर्णजटित बाण दो और तीन टुकड़ों में टूट गये और नीचे गिर गये।

ततो राजन्नागरथाश्वयूनां; भीमाहतानां तव राजमध्ये घोरो निनादः प्रबभौ नरेन्द्र; वज्राहतानामिव पर्वतानाम्

O king! In the midst of the kings on your side, elephants, rāṭha-s, horses and foot soldiers were slain by Bhīmā and roared loudly. O Indra among men! They were like mountains shattered by the thunder.

हे राजा! आपके पक्ष के राजाओं के बीच में हाथी, रथ, घोड़े और पैदल सैनिक भीम द्वारा मारे गये और बड़े जोर से गर्जना करने लगे। हे मनुष्यों में इंद्र! वे वज्रपात से टूटे हुए पर्वतों के समान थे।

ते वध्यमानाश्च नरेन्द्रमुख्या; निर्भिन्ना वै भीमसेनप्रवेकैः भीमं समन्तात्समरेऽध्यरोह;न्वृक्षं शकुन्ता इव पुष्पहेतोः

The foremost among kings were shattered by Bhīmasena, who was single-handed. In that encounter, they rushed against Bhīmā from every side, like birds in search of flowers heading towards a tree.

प्रमुख राजाओं को भीमसेन ने, जो अकेले थे, चूर-चूर कर दिया था। उस मुठभेड़ में, वे हर तरफ से भीम पर टूट पड़े, जैसे फूलों की तलाश में पक्षी किसी पेड़ की ओर बढ़ रहे हों।

ततोऽभिपातं तव सैन्यमध्ये; प्रादुश्चक्रे वेगमिवात्तवेगः यथान्तकाले क्षपयन्दिधक्षु;र्भूतान्तकृत्काल इवात्तदण्डः

When they attacked him, in the midst of your soldiers, he exhibited a force that was greater than the greatest. He was like the Destroyer at the time of destruction. He was the like the one who exterminates all beings, with a staff in his hand.

जब उन्होंने उस पर हमला किया, तो आपके सैनिकों के बीच में, उसने ऐसी शक्ति का प्रदर्शन किया जो महानतम से भी अधिक शक्तिशाली थी। वह विनाश के समय संहारक के समान था। वह उस व्यक्ति के समान था जो हाथ में लाठी लेकर सभी प्राणियों का नाश कर देता है।

तस्यातिवेगस्य रणेऽतिवेगं; नाशक्नुवन्धारयितुं त्वदीयाः व्यात्ताननस्यापततो यथैव; कालस्य काले हरतः प्रजा वै

In that battle, his speed was greater than that of the greatest. Those on your side could not withstand it. It was as if the one who destroys all beings, when the time of destruction has arrived, had descended with a gaping mouth.

उस युद्ध में उसकी गति बड़े से बड़े से भी अधिक थी। आपके पक्ष के लोग इसे बर्दाश्त नहीं कर सके। यह ऐसा था मानो सभी प्राणियों का नाश करने वाला, जब विनाश का समय आ गया हो, मुँह फैलाए अवतरित हुआ हो।

ततो बलं भारत भारतानां; प्रदह्यमानं समरे महात्मन् भीतं दिशोऽकीर्यत भीमनुन्नं; महानिलेनाभ्रगणो यथैव

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! In that battle, the great-souled one scorched the army of the Bhāratas. They were frightened of Bhīmā and fled in different directions, like large masses of clouds driven away by a great wind.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! उस युद्ध में महाबली ने भरत की सेना को झुलसा दिया। वे भीम से भयभीत हो गए और अलग-अलग दिशाओं में भाग गए, जैसे तेज हवा से बादलों का विशाल समूह उड़ जाता है।

ततो धीमान्सारथिमब्रवीद्बली; स भीमसेनः पुनरेव हृष्टः सूताभिजानीहि परान्स्वकान्वा; रथान्ध्वजांश्चापततः समेतान् युध्यन्नहं नाभिजानामि किंचि;न्मा सैन्यं स्वं छादयिष्ये पृषत्कैः

The intelligent and powerful Bhīmasena then spoke cheerfully to his charioteer again. "O sūta! Chariots and standards have assembled and are advancing towards us. Find out whether they belong to the enemy or to us. Since I am engaged in fighting, I cannot make out. I should not envelop our own soldiers with arrows.

बुद्धिमान और शक्तिशाली भीमसेन ने फिर प्रसन्नतापूर्वक अपने सारथी से बात की। "हे सूत! रथ और ध्वज इकट्ठे हो गए हैं और हमारी ओर बढ़ रहे हैं। पता लगाओ कि वे शत्रु के हैं या हमारे। चूँकि मैं युद्ध में लगा हुआ हूँ, मैं पता नहीं लगा सकता। मुझे अपने ही सैनिकों को बाणों से नहीं घेरना चाहिए।"

अरीन्विशोकाभिनिरीक्ष्य सर्वतो; मनस्तु चिन्ता प्रदुनोति मे भृशम् राजातुरो नागमद्यत्किरीटी; बहूनि दुःखान्यभिजातोऽस्मि सूत

O Viśokā! I see the enemy on all sides and I am extremely anxious that the king should not be suffering. Kirīṭī has not yet returned. O sūta! That is the reason I am overcome by great sorrow.

हे विशोका! मुझे सब ओर शत्रु ही शत्रु दिखाई दे रहे हैं और मैं अत्यंत चिंतित हूं कि राजा को कष्ट न हो। किरीटी अभी तक वापस नहीं आई है. हे सुता! यही कारण है कि मैं बड़े दुःख से घिर गया हूँ।

एतद्दुःखं सारथे धर्मराजो; यन्मां हित्वा यातवाञ्शत्रुमध्ये नैनं जीवन्नापि जानाम्यजीव;न्बीभत्सुं वा तन्ममाद्यातिदुःखम्

O charioteer! I am grieving that Dharmarāja has abandoned me in the midst of the enemy and has departed. I do not know whether he and Bībhatsu are alive or dead. That is the reason I am overcome with grief.

हे सारथी! मुझे दुःख हो रहा है कि धर्मराज मुझे शत्रु के बीच में छोड़कर चले गये हैं। मुझे नहीं पता कि वह और बिभात्सु जीवित हैं या मर चुके हैं। यही कारण है कि मैं दुःख से अभिभूत हो गया हूँ।

सोऽहं द्विषत्सैन्यमुदग्रकल्पं; विनाशयिष्ये परमप्रतीतः एतान्निहत्याजिमध्ये समेता;न्प्रीतो भविष्यामि सह त्वयाद्य

However, I will assume a terrible form and drive away these soldiers. Once they have been destroyed, I shall rejoice. Stationed in the midst of the enemy, I will slay the assembled ones. Then, I will rejoice with you.

परन्तु मैं भयंकर रूप धारण करके इन सैनिकों को भगा दूँगा। एक बार जब वे नष्ट हो जाएंगे, तो मुझे खुशी होगी। मैं शत्रुओं के बीच में रहकर इकट्ठे हुए लोगों को मार डालूँगा। तब मैं तुम्हारे साथ आनन्द मनाऊँगा।

सर्वांस्तूणीरान्मार्गणान्वान्ववेक्ष्य; किं शिष्टं स्यात्सायकानां रथे मे का वा जातिः किं प्रमाणं च तेषां; ज्ञात्वा व्यक्तं तन्ममाचक्ष्व सूत

Count all the quivers and arrows and tell me. How many arrows are still left on my chariot? What kinds are there and what is their length? O sūta! Determine this and tell me."

सभी तरकशों और बाणों को गिनकर बताओ। मेरे रथ पर अब भी कितने बाण बचे हैं? ये कितने प्रकार के होते हैं और उनकी लंबाई कितनी होती है? हे सुता! यह निश्चय करके मुझे बताओ।”

विशोक उवाच षण्मार्गणानामयुतानि वीर; क्षुराश्च भल्लाश्च तथायुताख्याः नाराचानां द्वे सहस्रे तु वीर; त्रीण्येव च प्रदराणां च पार्थ

Viśokā replied: "O brave one! There are sixty thousand arrows, ten thousand kṣurapra arrows and the same number of broad-headed arrows. O brave one! There are two thousand iron arrows. O Pārtha! There are three thousand pradara-s.

विशोक ने उत्तर दिया: "हे वीर! साठ हजार बाण हैं, दस हजार क्षुरप्र बाण हैं और इतनी ही संख्या में चौड़े सिर वाले बाण हैं। हे वीर! दो हजार लोहे के बाण हैं। हे पार्थ! तीन हजार प्रदार हैं।"

अस्त्यायुधं पाण्डवेयावशिष्टं; न यद्वहेच्छकटं षड्गवीयम् एतद्विद्वन्मुञ्च सहस्रशोऽपि; गदासिबाहुद्रविणं च तेऽस्ति

O Pāṇḍaveya! The weapons that still remain cannot be carried on six carts pulled by bullocks. Release these and others in thousands. You possess clubs, swords, your arms and other stores."

हे पाण्डवेय! जो हथियार अभी भी बचे हैं उन्हें बैलों द्वारा खींची जाने वाली छह गाड़ियों पर नहीं ले जाया जा सकता। इन्हें और अन्य लोगों को हजारों की संख्या में रिहा करो। आपके पास लाठियाँ, तलवारें, हथियार और अन्य भंडार हैं।"

भीम उवाच सूताद्येमं पश्य भीमप्रमुक्तैः; संभिन्दद्भिः पार्थिवानाशुवेगैः उग्रैर्बाणैराहवं घोररूपं; नष्टादित्यं मृत्युलोकेन तुल्यम्

Bhīmā said: "O sūta! Behold. In this awful engagement today, I will shatter all the kings with my speed and force. In the encounter, my fierce arrows will be terrible in form. The sun will disappear and it will be like the world of the dead.

भीम ने कहा: "हे सूत! देखो। आज के इस भयानक युद्ध में, मैं अपनी गति और बल से सभी राजाओं को चकनाचूर कर दूंगा। मुठभेड़ में, मेरे भयंकर बाणों का रूप भयानक होगा। सूर्य गायब हो जाएगा और यह मृतकों की दुनिया जैसा हो जाएगा।

अद्यैव तद्विदितं पार्थिवानां; भविष्यति आकुमारं च सूत निमग्नो वा समरे भीमसेन; एकः कुरून्वा समरे विजेता

O sūta! The kings will know this today, and so will their sons, that Bhīmā has been submerged in this battle and has singlehandedly vanquished the Kuru-s in the encounter.

हे सुता! आज राजाओं को और उनके पुत्रों को यह ज्ञात हो जाएगा कि भीम इस युद्ध में जलमग्न हो गया है और उसने अकेले ही कौरवों को युद्ध में परास्त कर दिया है।

सर्वे संख्ये कुरवो निष्पतन्तु; मां वा लोकाः कीर्तयन्त्वाकुमारम् सर्वानेकस्तानहं पातयिष्ये; ते वा सर्वे भीमसेनं तुदन्तु

All the Kuru-s will be destroyed in the battle, or let the worlds know about my deeds since childhood. Single-handedly, I will bring all of them down or let all of them crush Bhīmasena.

युद्ध में सारे कौरव नष्ट हो जायेंगे, नहीं तो संसार को मेरे बचपन के कर्मों का पता चल जायेगा। मैं अकेले ही उन सबको नीचे गिरा दूँगा अथवा उन सबको भीमसेन को कुचल डालने दूँगा।

आशास्तारः कर्म चाप्युत्तमं वा; तन्मे देवाः केवलं साधयन्तु आयात्विहाद्यार्जुनः शत्रुघाती; शक्रस्तूर्णं यज्ञ इवोपहूतः

There are those who pronounce benedictions on virtuous deeds. et those gods bless me. Let Arjuna, the slayer of enemies, come here, like Śākra swiftly summoned to a sacrifice.

ऐसे लोग हैं जो पुण्य कर्मों पर आशीर्वाद देते हैं। और वे देवता मुझे आशीर्वाद दें। शत्रुओं के संहारक अर्जुन को यहाँ आने दो, जैसे कि शक्र ने तेजी से यज्ञ के लिए बुलाया था।

ईक्षस्वैतां भारतीं दीर्यमाणा;मेते कस्माद्विद्रवन्ते नरेन्द्राः व्यक्तं धीमान्सव्यसाची नराग्र्यः; सैन्यं ह्येतच्छादयत्याशु बाणैः

Behold. The army of the Bhārata-s has been shattered. Why are those Indra-s among men running away? It is evident that the intelligent Savyasachi, foremost among men, has shrouded the soldiers with his swift arrows.

देखो. भरत की सेना छिन्न-भिन्न हो गई है। वे इन्द्र-पुरुष क्यों भाग रहे हैं? यह स्पष्ट है कि मनुष्यों में श्रेष्ठ बुद्धिमान सव्यसाची ने अपने तीव्र बाणों से सैनिकों को आच्छादित कर दिया है।

पश्य ध्वजांश्च द्रवतो विशोक; नागान्हयान्पत्तिसंघांश्च संख्ये रथान्विशीर्णाञ्शरशक्तिताडिता;न्पश्यस्वैतान्रथिनश्चैव सूत

O Viśokā! Behold. The standards are being routed in the battle, and so are the large numbers of elephants, horses and infantry. The chariots are being shattered, afflicted by arrows and javelins, and so are the rāṭha-s.

हे विशोका! देखो. युद्ध में मानकों को पराजित किया जा रहा है, और बड़ी संख्या में हाथियों, घोड़ों और पैदल सेना को भी हराया जा रहा है। रथ चूर-चूर हो रहे हैं, तीरों और भालों से पीड़ित हो रहे हैं और रथ भी चूर-चूर हो रहे हैं।

आपूर्यते कौरवी चाप्यभीक्ष्णं; सेना ह्यसौ सुभृशं हन्यमाना धनंजयस्याशनितुल्यवेगै;र्ग्रस्ता शरैर्बर्हिसुवर्णवाजैः

O sūta! Behold. The Kaurava soldiers are being severely slaughtered and destroyed. Dhanañjayā's force is like that of the vajra, and his golden arrows, tufted with the feathers of peacocks and hawks, are devouring them.

हे सुता! देखो. कौरव सैनिकों का घोर संहार और विनाश हो रहा है। धनंजय का बल वज्र के समान है, और उसके सुनहरे तीर, मोर और बाज के पंखों से सजे हुए, उन्हें निगल रहे हैं।

एते द्रवन्ति स्म रथाश्वनागाः; पदातिसंघानवमर्दयन्तः संमुह्यमानाः कौरवाः सर्व एव; द्रवन्ति नागा इव दावभीताः हाहाकृताश्चैव रणे विशोक; मुञ्चन्ति नादान्विपुलान्गजेन्द्राः

The chariots, horses and elephants are being driven away. Large numbers of foot soldiers are being crushed. All the Kaurava-s are confounded. The terrified elephants are running away, as if from a conflagration. O Viśokā! Sounds of lamentation are arising in the battle. Kings among elephants are emitting loud shrieks."

रथ, घोड़े और हाथियों को खदेड़ा जा रहा है। बड़ी संख्या में पैदल सैनिक कुचले जा रहे हैं. सभी कौरव भ्रमित हैं। भयभीत हाथी ऐसे भाग रहे हैं, मानो आग से जल उठे हों। हे विशोका! युद्ध में विलाप के स्वर उठ रहे हैं। हाथियों के बीच के राजा जोर-जोर से चिंघाड़ रहे हैं।"

विशोक उवाच सर्वे कामाः पाण्डव ते समृद्धाः; कपिध्वजो दृश्यते हस्तिसैन्ये नीलाद्धनाद्विद्युतमुच्चरन्तीं; तथापश्यं विस्फुरद्वै धनुस्तत्

Viśokā replied: "O Pāṇḍava! All your desires have come true. In the midst of the elephant arrays, the standard with the ape can be seen. Behold. Like lightning flashing amidst blue clouds, the bow is being extended there.

विशोक ने उत्तर दिया: "हे पांडव! आपकी सभी इच्छाएं पूरी हो गई हैं। हाथियों के समूह के बीच में, वानर के साथ ध्वज देखा जा सकता है। देखो। नीले बादलों के बीच चमकती बिजली की तरह, धनुष वहां फैला हुआ है।

कपिर्ह्यसौ वीक्ष्यते सर्वतो वै; ध्वजाग्रमारुह्य धनंजयस्य दिवाकराभो मणिरेष दिव्यो; विभ्राजते चैव किरीटसंस्थः

Astride the top of Dhanañjayā's standard, the ape can be seen from every direction. The celestial gem on the diadem is as radiant as the rays of the sun.

धनंजय के मानक के शीर्ष पर सवार होकर, वानर को हर दिशा से देखा जा सकता है। मुकुट पर स्थित दिव्य रत्न सूर्य की किरणों के समान दीप्तिमान है।

पार्श्वे भीमं पाण्डुराभ्रप्रकाशं; पश्येमं त्वं देवदत्तं सुघोषम् अभीशुहस्तस्य जनार्दनस्य; विगाहमानस्य चमूं परेषाम्

Alongside, behold the terrible and extremely loud blare of Devadatta, pale in complexion. Janārdana has the reins in his hand. He is driving through the army of the enemy.

साथ ही, पीले रंग के देवदत्त की भयानक और अत्यंत तीव्र ध्वनि को देखो। जनार्दन के हाथ में लगाम है. वह शत्रु की सेना को खदेड़ रहा है।

रविप्रभं वज्रनाभं क्षुरान्तं; पार्श्वे स्थितं पश्य जनार्दनस्य चक्रं यशो वर्धयत्केशवस्य; सदार्चितं यदुभिः पश्य वीर

Behold. Next to Janārdana is his cakra, increasing Keśava's fame. It is sharp at the edges and is like the sun in complexion. Its handle is like the vajra. It is always worshipped by the Yadu-s. O brave one! Behold!"

देखो. जनार्दन के बाद उनका चक्र है, जिससे केशव की प्रसिद्धि बढ़ रही है। इसके किनारे नुकीले हैं और इसका रंग सूर्य के समान है। इसका हैंडल वज्र के समान है। यदुवंशियों द्वारा सदैव इसकी पूजा की जाती है। हे वीर! देखो!"

भीम उवाच ददामि ते ग्रामवरांश्चतुर्दश; प्रियाख्याने सारथे सुप्रसन्नः दसीशतं चापि रथांश्च विंशतिं; यदर्जुनं वेदयसे विशोक

Bhīmā said: "O charioteer! Because you have pleased me greatly and given me good news, I will give you fourteen supreme villages, one hundred maidservants and twenty chariots. O Viśokā! You have given me news about Arjuna."

भीम ने कहा: "हे सारथी! चूँकि तुमने मुझे बहुत प्रसन्न किया है और मुझे शुभ समाचार दिया है, इसलिए मैं तुम्हें चौदह श्रेष्ठ गाँव, एक सौ दासियाँ और बीस रथ दूंगा। हे विशोका! तुमने मुझे अर्जुन के बारे में समाचार दिया है।"
