धृतराष्ट्र उवाच ततो भग्नेषु सैन्येषु भीमसेनेन संयुगे दुर्योधनोऽब्रवीत्किं नु सौबलो वापि संजय

Dhṛtarāṣṭra asked: O Sañjaya! When the soldiers were shattered by Bhīmasena in the battle, what did Duryodhana and Saubala say?

धृतराष्ट्र ने पूछा: हे संजय! जब युद्ध में भीमसेन द्वारा सैनिक चूर-चूर हो गये तो दुर्योधन और सौबल ने क्या कहा?

कर्णो वा जयतां श्रेष्ठो योधा वा मामका युधि कृपो वा कृतवर्मा च द्रौणिर्दुःशासनोऽपि वा

What about Karṇa, foremost among victorious warriors, Kṛpa, Kritavarma, Droṇa's son, Duḥśāsana and other warriors on my side?

विजयी योद्धाओं में अग्रणी कर्ण, कृप, कृतवर्मा, द्रोणपुत्र, दुःशासन और मेरे पक्ष के अन्य योद्धाओं के बारे में क्या?

अत्यद्भुतमिदं मन्ये पाण्डवेयस्य विक्रमम् यथाप्रतिज्ञं योधानां राधेयः कृतवानपि

I think that Pāṇḍaveya's valour was extremely wonderful. Did Rādheya also act according to his promise to the warriors?

मुझे लगता है कि पांडवेय की वीरता अत्यंत अद्भुत थी। क्या राधेय ने भी योद्धाओं को दिए अपने वादे के अनुसार कार्य किया?

कुरूणामपि सर्वेषां कर्णः शत्रुनिषूदनः शर्म वर्म प्रतिष्ठा च जीविताशा च संजय

Among Kuru warriors, Karṇa is the destroyer of enemies. O Sañjaya! He is their refuge, their armour, their base and their hope of remaining alive.

कुरु योद्धाओं में कर्ण शत्रुओं का संहारक है। हे संजय! वह उनका आश्रय, उनका कवच, उनका आधार और जीवित रहने की उनकी आशा है।

तत्प्रभग्नं बलं दृष्ट्वा कौन्तेयेनामितौजसा राधेयानामधिरथः कर्णः किमकरोद्युधि

On seeing that the army had been routed by the infinitely energetic Kaunteya, what did Adhiratha's son, Rādheya Karṇa do?

यह देखकर कि सेना को असीम ऊर्जावान कौन्तेय ने हरा दिया था, अधिरथ के पुत्र राधेय कर्ण ने क्या किया?

पुत्रा वा मम दुर्धर्षा राजानो वा महारथाः एतन्मे सर्वमाचक्ष्व कुशलो ह्यसि संजय

What about my sons and the invincible mahāratha kings? O Sañjaya! You are skilled in narrating. Tell me everything about all this.

मेरे पुत्रों और अजेय मराठा राजाओं के बारे में क्या? हे संजय! आप तो सुनाने में माहिर हैं. मुझे इस सब के बारे में सब कुछ बताओ.

संजय उवाच अपराह्णे महाराज सूतपुत्रः प्रतापवान् जघान सोमकान्सर्वान्भीमसेनस्य पश्यतः भीमोऽप्यतिबलः सैन्यं धार्तराष्ट्रं व्यपोथयत्

Sañjaya replied: O great king! In the afternoon, while Bhīmasena looked on, the powerful son of a sūta began to strike all the Somaka-s. The extremely strong Bhīmā also began to uproot all the soldiers of the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra.

संजय ने उत्तर दिया: हे महान राजा! दोपहर में, जब भीमसेन देखते रहे, तो शक्तिशाली सूतपुत्र ने सभी सोमकों पर प्रहार करना शुरू कर दिया। अत्यंत बलशाली भीम ने भी धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्रों के सभी सैनिकों को उखाड़ना शुरू कर दिया।

द्राव्यमाणं बलं दृष्ट्वा भीमसेनेन धीमता यन्तारमब्रवीत्कर्णः पाञ्चालानेव मा वह

On seeing that the intelligent Bhīmasena was driving away the army, Karṇa asked his charioteer to drive him towards the Pāñcāla-s.

यह देखकर कि बुद्धिमान भीमसेन सेना को भगा रहा है, कर्ण ने अपने सारथी से उसे पंचाल की ओर ले जाने के लिए कहा।

मद्रराजस्ततः शल्यः श्वेतानश्वान्महाजवान् प्राहिणोच्चेदिपाञ्चालान्करूषांश्च महाबलः

The immensely strong king of Madra, Śalya, drove the white horses, which were extremely swift, towards the Cedi-s, the Pāñcāla-s and the Kārūṣa-s.

मद्र के अत्यंत बलशाली राजा शल्य ने सफेद घोड़ों को, जो अत्यंत तीव्र थे, चेडि-एस, पंचाल-एस और करुश-एस की ओर खदेड़ दिया।

प्रविश्य च स तां सेनां शल्यः परबलार्दनः न्ययच्छत्तुरगान्हृष्टो यत्र यत्रैच्छदग्रणीः

Śalya, the destroyer of enemy troops, penetrated those soldiers. He cheerfully drove the horses to the spot where that foremost one wanted him to go.

शत्रु सेना का संहार करने वाले शल्य ने उन सैनिकों को भेद लिया। वह ख़ुशी-ख़ुशी घोड़ों को उस स्थान पर ले गया जहाँ सबसे बड़ा व्यक्ति उसे ले जाना चाहता था।

तं रथं मेघसंकाशं वैयाघ्रपरिवारणम् संदृश्य पाण्डुपाञ्चालास्त्रस्ता आसन्विशां पते

The chariot was like a cloud and was covered in tiger skins. O lord of the earth! On seeing it, the Pāṇḍu-s and the Pāñcāla-s were terrified.

रथ बादल के समान था और बाघ की खाल से ढका हुआ था। हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! यह देखकर पाण्डु और पंचाल भयभीत हो गये।

ततो रथस्य निनदः प्रादुरासीन्महारणे पर्जन्यसमनिर्घोषः पर्वतस्येव दीर्यतः

The loud roar of the chariot could be heard in the great battle. Its roar was like that of a cloud, or of a mountain being shattered.

उस महासंग्राम में रथ की तीव्र गर्जना सुनाई दे रही थी। उसकी गर्जना बादल या टूटे हुए पहाड़ के समान थी।

ततः शरशतैस्तीक्ष्णैः कर्णोऽप्याकर्णनिःसृतैः जघान पाण्डवबलं शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः

Karṇa drew his bow all the way back to his ear and slew hundreds and thousands of Pāṇḍava soldiers with hundreds of sharp arrows.

कर्ण ने अपना धनुष कान तक खींच लिया और सैकड़ों तीखे बाणों से सैकड़ों हजारों पांडव सैनिकों को मार डाला।

तं तथा समरे कर्म कुर्वाणमतिमानुषम् परिवव्रुर्महेष्वासाः पाण्डवानां महारथाः

While he was performing that superhuman deed in the encounter, the great archers, the Pāṇḍava mahāratha-s, surrounded him.

जब वह मुठभेड़ में वह अलौकिक कार्य कर रहा था, तो महान धनुर्धारियों, पांडव महारथियों ने उसे घेर लिया।

तं शिखण्डी च भीमश्च धृष्टद्युम्नश्च पार्षतः नकुलः सहदेवश्च द्रौपदेयाः ससात्यकाः परिवव्रुर्जिघांसन्तो राधेयं शरवृष्टिभिः

Śikhaṇḍī, Bhīmā, Pārṣata Dhṛṣṭadyumna, Nākula, Sahadeva, Draupadī's sons and Sātyaki surrounded him and showered down arrows, wishing to kill Rādheya.

शिखंडी, भीम, पराष्ट धृष्टद्युम्न, नकुल, सहदेव, द्रौपदी के पुत्रों और सात्यकि ने उसे घेर लिया और राधेय को मारने की इच्छा से बाणों की वर्षा करने लगे।

सात्यकिस्तु ततः कर्णं विंशत्या निशितैः शरैः अताडयद्रणे शूरो जत्रुदेशे नरोत्तमः

In the battle, the brave Sātyaki, supreme among men, pierced Karṇa with twenty sharp arrows in his shoulder joints.

युद्ध में पुरुषों में श्रेष्ठ वीर सात्यकि ने कर्ण के कंधे के जोड़ों में बीस तीखे बाणों से उसे घायल कर दिया।

शिखण्डी पञ्चविंशत्या धृष्टद्युम्नश्च पञ्चभिः द्रौपदेयाश्चतुःषष्ट्या सहदेवश्च सप्तभिः नकुलश्च शतेनाजौ कर्णं विव्याध सायकैः

Śikhaṇḍī pierced Karṇa with twenty-five arrows, Dhṛṣṭadyumna with five, Draupadī's sons with sixty-four, Sahadeva with seven and Nākula with one hundred.

शिखण्डी ने पच्चीस बाणों से कर्ण को, पाँच बाणों से धृष्टद्युम्न को, चौंसठ बाणों से द्रौपदी के पुत्रों को, सात बाणों से सहदेव को और एक सौ बाणों से नकुल को घायल कर दिया।

भीमसेनस्तु राधेयं नवत्या नतपर्वणाम् विव्याध समरे क्रुद्धो जत्रुदेशे महाबलः

In that encounter, the immensely strong and angry Bhīmasena pierced him in the shoulder joints with ninety arrows with drooping tufts.

उस मुठभेड़ में, अत्यंत बलशाली और क्रोधित भीमसेन ने झुकते हुए नब्बे बाणों से उसके कंधे के जोड़ों में छेद कर दिया।

ततः प्रहस्याधिरथिर्विक्षिपन्धनुरुत्तमम् मुमोच निशितान्बाणान्पीडयन्सुमहाबलः तान्प्रत्यविध्यद्राधेयः पञ्चभिः पञ्चभिः शरैः

Adhiratha's immensely strong son laughed. He drew back his supreme bow and released sharp arrows, afflicting them. Rādheya pierced each of them back with five arrows each.

अधिरथ का अत्यंत बलशाली पुत्र हँसा। उसने अपना सर्वोच्च धनुष वापस खींच लिया और तीखे बाण छोड़ कर उन्हें घायल कर दिया। राधेय ने उनमें से प्रत्येक को पाँच-पाँच बाणों से बींध डाला।

सात्यकेस्तु धनुश्छित्त्वा ध्वजं च पुरुषर्षभः अथैनं नवभिर्बाणैराजघान स्तनान्तरे

The bull among men severed Sātyaki's bow and standard and struck him between the breasts with nine arrows.

मनुष्यों में से उस बैल ने सात्यकि के धनुष और ध्वज को तोड़ डाला और नौ बाणों से उसकी छाती के बीच में चोट पहुँचायी।

भीमसेनस्तु तं क्रुद्धो विव्याध त्रिंशता शरैः सारथिं च त्रिभिर्बाणैराजघान परंतपः

The scorcher of enemies wrathfully pierced Bhīmasena with thirty arrows and struck his charioteer with three arrows.

शत्रुओं को झुलसाने वाले वीर ने क्रोधपूर्वक तीस बाणों से भीमसेन को घायल कर दिया और तीन बाणों से उनके सारथि को भी घायल कर दिया।

विरथान्द्रौपदेयांश्च चकार पुरुषर्षभः अक्ष्णोर्निमेषमात्रेण तदद्भुतमिवाभवत्

In the twinkling of an eye, the bull among men deprived Draupadī's sons of their chariots and it was extraordinary.

पलक झपकते ही, मनुष्यों में से बैल ने द्रौपदी के पुत्रों को उनके रथों से वंचित कर दिया और यह असाधारण था।

विमुखीकृत्य तान्सर्वाञ्शरैः संनतपर्वभिः पाञ्चालानहनच्छूरश्चेदीनां च महारथान्

With straight-tufted arrows, he made all of them retreat. He killed the brave mahāratha-s from Pāñcāla and Cedi.

उसने सीधे नुकीले बाणों से उन सभी को पीछे हटने पर मजबूर कर दिया। उसने पंचाल और सेदि के वीर महारथियों को मार डाला।

ते वध्यमानाः समरे चेदिमत्स्या विशां पते कर्णमेकमभिद्रुत्य शरसंघैः समार्दयन् ताञ्जघान शितैर्बाणैः सूतपुत्रो महारथः

O lord of the earth! In that battle, the Cedi-s and the Matysas were slaughtered. They rushed against Karṇa, who was single-handed, and struck him with torrents of arrows. The mahāratha son of a sūta struck those down with his sharp arrows.

हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! उस युद्ध में, सेडी-एस और मैटिसा मारे गए। वे अकेले कर्ण पर टूट पड़े और उस पर बाणों की बौछार कर दी। सूतपुत्र महारथी ने अपने पैने बाणों से उन लोगों को घायल कर दिया।

एतदत्यद्भुतं कर्णे दृष्टवानस्मि भारत यदेकः समरे शूरान्सूतपुत्रः प्रतापवान्

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! I witnessed this extraordinary deed performed by Karṇa. In the battle, the brave and powerful son of a sūta was single-handed.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! मैंने कर्ण द्वारा किये गये इस असाधारण कार्य को देखा। युद्ध में सूत का वीर और शक्तिशाली पुत्र अकेले ही युद्ध में भिड़ गया।

यतमानान्परं शक्त्यायोधयत्तांश्च धन्विनः पाण्डवेयान्महाराज शरैर्वारितवान्रणे

O great king! However, despite those enemy warriors striving to their utmost in the encounter, he restrained the Pāṇḍaveya-s with his arrows.

हे महान राजा! हालाँकि, उन शत्रु योद्धाओं द्वारा मुठभेड़ में अपना सर्वश्रेष्ठ प्रयास करने के बावजूद, उन्होंने अपने बाणों से पांडवों को रोक दिया।

तत्र भारत कर्णस्य लाघवेन महात्मनः तुतुषुर्देवताः सर्वाः सिद्धाश्च परमर्षयः

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! All the gods, siddha-s and supreme riṣi-s were satisfied at the dexterity shown by the great-souled Karṇa.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! सभी देवता, सिद्ध और परम ऋषि महान आत्मा कर्ण द्वारा दिखाई गई निपुणता से संतुष्ट थे।

अपूजयन्महेष्वासा धार्तराष्ट्रा नरोत्तमम् कर्णं रथवरश्रेष्ठं श्रेष्ठं सर्वधनुष्मताम्

The great archers, the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, applauded that best of men. Karṇa was best among supreme rāṭha-s. He was foremost among all archers.

धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्र महान धनुर्धरों ने उस श्रेष्ठ पुरुष की सराहना की। कर्ण परम रथियों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ थे। वह सभी धनुर्धरों में अग्रणी था।

ततः कर्णो महाराज ददाह रिपुवाहिनीम् कक्षमिद्धो यथा वह्निर्निदाघे ज्वलितो महान्

O great king! Karṇa consumed the army of the enemy, just as a large and flaming fire burns down dead wood during the summer.

हे महान राजा! कर्ण ने शत्रु की सेना को उसी प्रकार भस्म कर दिया, जैसे ग्रीष्म ऋतु में बड़ी और धधकती आग मृत लकड़ियों को जला देती है।

ते वध्यमानाः कर्णेन पाण्डवेयास्ततस्ततः प्राद्रवन्त रणे भीताः कर्णं दृष्ट्वा महाबलम्

Thus slaughtered by Karṇa and witnessing Karṇa's great strength, the Pāṇḍaveya-s were terrified in the battle and fled here and there.

इस प्रकार कर्ण द्वारा मारे जाने और कर्ण की महान शक्ति को देखकर, पांडव युद्ध में भयभीत हो गए और इधर-उधर भाग गए।

तत्राक्रन्दो महानासीत्पाञ्चालानां महारणे वध्यतां सायकैस्तीक्ष्णैः कर्णचापवरच्युतैः

In the great encounter, loud lamentations arose among the Pāñcāla-s, since they were slaughtered by the sharp arrows that were released from Karṇa's bow.

महान मुठभेड़ में, पंचालों के बीच जोरदार विलाप हुआ, क्योंकि वे कर्ण के धनुष से छोड़े गए तीखे बाणों से मारे गए थे।

तेन शब्देन वित्रस्ता पाण्डवानां महाचमूः कर्णमेकं रणे योधं मेनिरे तत्र शात्रवाः

The large army of the Pāṇḍava-s was frightened at the sound. In the battle there, the enemies thought that Karṇa was the only warrior.

इस ध्वनि से पांडवों की विशाल सेना भयभीत हो गई। वहां युद्ध में शत्रुओं ने सोचा कि कर्ण ही एकमात्र योद्धा है।

तत्राद्भुतं परं चक्रे राधेयः शत्रुकर्शनः यदेकं पाण्डवाः सर्वे न शेकुरभिवीक्षितुम्

Thus Rādheya, the afflicter of enemies, accomplished that supremely wonderful deed. He single-handedly countered all the Pāṇḍava-s and no one was capable of glancing towards him.

इस प्रकार शत्रुओं को संतप्त करने वाले राधेय ने वह परम अद्भुत कार्य सम्पन्न किया। उन्होंने अकेले ही सभी पांडवों का मुकाबला किया और कोई भी उनकी ओर देखने में सक्षम नहीं था।

यथौघः पर्वतश्रेष्ठमासाद्याभिप्रदीर्यते तथा तत्पाण्डवं सैन्यं कर्णमासाद्य दीर्यते

They were like a large mās-s of water that dashes against a supreme mountain and is driven back. In that way, the Pāṇḍava soldiers clashed against Karṇa and were shattered.

वे पानी के एक बड़े ढेर की तरह थे जो एक सर्वोच्च पर्वत से टकराता है और वापस चला जाता है। इस प्रकार पांडव सैनिक कर्ण से भिड़ गये और नष्ट हो गये।

कर्णोऽपि समरे राजन्विधूमोऽग्निरिव ज्वलन् दहंस्तस्थौ महाबाहुः पाण्डवानां महाचमूम्

O king! In the battle, Karṇa blazed like a fire without smoke. The mighty-armed one burnt down the large army of the Pāṇḍava-s.

हे राजा! युद्ध में कर्ण बिना धुंए की आग की तरह धधक उठा। महाबाहु ने पाण्डवों की विशाल सेना को जला डाला।

शिरांसि च महाराज कर्णांश्चञ्चलकुण्डलान् बाहूंश्च वीरो वीराणां चिच्छेद लघु चेषुभिः

O great king! With great agility and his light arrows, the brave Karṇa severed the heads, with earrings, and the arms of the valiant ones.

हे महान राजा! वीर कर्ण ने बड़ी फुर्ती और अपने हल्के बाणों से वीरों के सिर, कुंडल और भुजाएँ काट डालीं।

हस्तिदन्तान्त्सरून्खड्गान्ध्वजाञ्शक्तीर्हयान्गजान् रथांश्च विविधान्राजन्पताका व्यजनानि च

There were swords with handles of ivory. There were standards, javelins, horses and elephants. There were the parts of chariots and many kinds of flags and whisks.

वहाँ हाथी दांत के मूठ वाली तलवारें थीं। वहाँ ध्वज, भाले, घोड़े और हाथी थे। वहाँ रथों के भाग और अनेक प्रकार के झण्डे और मूंछें थीं।

अक्षेषायुगयोक्त्राणि चक्राणि विविधानि च चिच्छेद शतधा कर्णो योधव्रतमनुष्ठितः

There were axles, yokes, harnesses and many kinds of wheels. Karṇa observed his vow of a warrior and shattered these into hundreds of fragments.

वहाँ धुरी, योक, हार्नेस और कई प्रकार के पहिये थे। कर्ण ने एक योद्धा के रूप में अपनी प्रतिज्ञा का पालन किया और इन्हें सैकड़ों टुकड़ों में तोड़ दिया।

तत्र भारत कर्णेन निहतैर्गजवाजिभिः अगम्यरूपा पृथिवी मांसशोणितकर्दमा

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Elephants and horses were slain by Karṇa. Because of the flesh, blood and mire, the earth assumed an impassable form.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! कर्ण द्वारा हाथी और घोड़ों का वध | मांस, रक्त और कीचड़ के कारण पृथ्वी ने अगम्य रूप धारण कर लिया।

विषमं च समं चैव हतैरश्वपदातिभिः रथैश्च कुञ्जरैश्चैव न प्राज्ञायत किंचन

With destroyed horses, foot soldiers, chariots and elephants, one could no longer distinguish uneven terrain from plain ground.

नष्ट हो चुके घोड़ों, पैदल सैनिकों, रथों और हाथियों के साथ, अब कोई भी समतल भूमि से असमान भूभाग को अलग नहीं कर सकता।

नापि स्वे न परे योधाः प्राज्ञायन्त परस्परम् घोरे शरान्धकारे तु कर्णास्त्रे च विजृम्भिते

Nor could the warriors distinguish those on their own side from that of the enemy. The arrows generated from Karṇa's weapon created a terrible darkness.

न ही योद्धा अपने पक्ष के लोगों को शत्रु से अलग कर सके। कर्ण के अस्त्र-शस्त्र से उत्पन्न बाणों से भयंकर अंधकार उत्पन्न हो गया।

राधेयचापनिर्मुक्तैः शरैः काञ्चनभूषितैः संछादिता महाराज यतमाना महारथाः

The arrows released from Rādheya's bow were decorated in gold. O great king! In the battle, the mahāratha-s repeatedly endeavoured, but were shrouded by Karṇa.

राधेय के धनुष से छोड़े गए तीर सोने से सजाए गए थे। हे महान राजा! युद्ध में, महारथियों ने बार-बार प्रयास किया, लेकिन वे कर्ण से घिरे हुए थे।

ते पाण्डवेयाः समरे कर्णेन स्म पुनः पुनः अभज्यन्त महाराज यतमाना महारथाः

Those Pāṇḍava-s were repeatedly covered by Karṇa in that battle. O great king! The striving great chariot warriors were overwhelmed.

उस युद्ध में वे पांडव बार-बार कर्ण द्वारा ढके हुए थे। हे महान राजा! प्रयत्नशील महारथी योद्धा अभिभूत हो गये।

मृगसंघान्यथा क्रुद्धः सिंहो द्रावयते वने कर्णस्तु समरे योधांस्तत्र तत्र महायशाः कालयामास तत्सैन्यं यथा पशुगणान्वृकः

They were like a herd of deer, driven away by an angry lion in the forest. The warriors who fought against Karṇa in the battle were greatly illustrious. But those soldiers were slaughtered, like a large number of smaller animals by a wolf.

वे हिरणों के झुंड की तरह थे, जिन्हें जंगल में एक क्रोधित शेर ने खदेड़ दिया था। युद्ध में कर्ण के विरुद्ध लड़ने वाले योद्धा अत्यंत यशस्वी थे। लेकिन उन सैनिकों को भेड़िये द्वारा बड़ी संख्या में छोटे जानवरों की तरह मार दिया गया।

दृष्ट्वा तु पाण्डवीं सेनां धार्तराष्ट्राः पराङ्मुखीम् अभिजग्मुर्महेष्वासा रुवन्तो भैरवान्रवान्

Seeing that the Pāṇḍava soldiers were retreating, the great archers, the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, pursued them, emitting fierce roars.

यह देखकर कि पांडव सैनिक पीछे हट रहे हैं, धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्र महान धनुर्धरों ने भीषण गर्जना करते हुए उनका पीछा किया।

दुर्योधनो हि राजेन्द्र मुदा परमया युतः वादयामास संहृष्टो नानावाद्यानि सर्वशः

O Indra among kings! Duryodhana was filled with great delight. He joyfully instructed that many musical instruments should be sounded in every direction.

हे राजाओं में इन्द्र! दुर्योधन अत्यंत प्रसन्नता से भर गया। उन्होंने प्रसन्नतापूर्वक निर्देश दिया कि सभी दिशाओं में अनेक वाद्ययंत्र बजाये जाएँ।

पाञ्चालापि महेष्वासा भग्ना भग्ना नरोत्तमाः न्यवर्तन्त यथा शूरा मृत्युं कृत्वा निवर्तनम्

The great archers among the Pāñcāla-s, supreme among men, were shattered. But though shattered, those brave ones returned, preferring death over retreat.

पंचालों के महान धनुर्धर, मनुष्यों में सर्वोच्च, चकनाचूर हो गये। लेकिन टूटे हुए होने के बावजूद, वे बहादुर लोग पीछे हटने के बजाय मौत को प्राथमिकता देते हुए वापस लौट आए।

तान्निवृत्तान्रणे शूरान्राधेयः शत्रुतापनः अनेकशो महाराज बभञ्ज पुरुषर्षभः

O great king! The brave Rādheya, scorcher of enemies and bull among men, countered and repelled them in many different kinds of ways.

हे महान राजा! शत्रुओं को भस्म करने वाले और मनुष्यों में वीर श्री राधेय ने अनेक प्रकार से उनका प्रतिकार किया और उन्हें खदेड़ दिया।

तत्र भारत कर्णेन पाञ्चाला विंशती रथाः निहताः सादयः क्रोधाच्चेदयश्च परःशताः

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Twenty rāṭha-s among the Pāñcāla-s were slain there by Karṇa and so were one hundred angry enemy riders from among the Cedi-s.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! कर्ण द्वारा वहां पंचालों में से बीस रथ मारे गए और इसी तरह सेडिस में से एक सौ क्रोधित शत्रु सवार मारे गए।

कृत्वा शून्यान्रथोपस्थान्वाजिपृष्ठांश्च भारत निर्मनुष्यान्गजस्कन्धान्पादातांश्चैव विद्रुतान्

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! He emptied the seats of chariots and the backs of horses. He brought down men from the necks of elephants. He drove away the infantry.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! उसने रथों की सीटें और घोड़ों की पीठ खाली कर दीं। उसने मनुष्यों को हाथियों की गर्दन से नीचे गिरा दिया। उसने पैदल सेना को खदेड़ दिया.

आदित्य इव मध्याह्ने दुर्निरीक्ष्यः परंतपः कालान्तकवपुः क्रूरः सूतपुत्रश्चचार ह

The scorcher of enemies was like the sun at midday and was impossible to look at. The son of a sūta assumed as cruel a form as Yāma and roamed around.

शत्रुओं को झुलसाने वाली आग दोपहर के सूरज के समान थी और उसे देखना असंभव था। सूतपुत्र यम के समान क्रूर रूप धारण करके चारों ओर घूमता था।

एवमेतान्महाराज नरवाजिरथद्विपान् हत्वा तस्थौ महेष्वासः कर्णोऽरिगणसूदनः

O great king! In this fashion, the great archer Karṇa, the destroyer of large numbers of the enemy, killed men, horses, rāṭha-s and elephants and was stationed there.

हे महान राजा! इस प्रकार, बड़ी संख्या में शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले महान धनुर्धर कर्ण ने मनुष्यों, घोड़ों, रथों और हाथियों को मार डाला और वहीं तैनात हो गये।

यथा भूतगणान्हत्वा कालस्तिष्ठेन्महाबलः तथा स सोमकान्हत्वा तस्थावेको महारथः

The immensely strong one was stationed there like the Destroyer after slaying large numbers of beings. The single-handed mahāratha was stationed there, after having slain the Somaka-s.

वह अत्यंत बलशाली बड़ी संख्या में प्राणियों का वध करने के बाद विध्वंसक की तरह वहां तैनात था। सोमाकों को मारने के बाद, अकेले हाथ वाले महारथ को वहां तैनात किया गया था।

तत्राद्भुतमपश्याम पाञ्चालानां पराक्रमम् वध्यमानापि कर्णेन नाजहू रणमूर्धनि

However, we beheld the wonderful valour of the Pāñcāla-s. Though they were slaughtered by Karṇa, they did not forsake the field of battle.

हालाँकि, हमने पंचालों की अद्भुत वीरता को देखा। यद्यपि कर्ण द्वारा उनका वध कर दिया गया, फिर भी उन्होंने युद्ध का मैदान नहीं छोड़ा।

राजा दुःशासनश्चैव कृपः शारद्वतस्तथा अश्वत्थामा कृतवर्मा शकुनिश्चापि सौबलः न्यहनन्पाण्डवीं सेनां शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः

The king, Duḥśāsana, Śāradvata Kṛpa, Aśvatthāma, Kritavarma and Śākuni Saubala slew the Pāṇḍava soldiers in hundreds and thousands.

राजा, दु:शासन, शरद्वात कृपा, अश्वत्थामा, कृतवर्मा और शकुनि सौबल ने सैकड़ों और हजारों की संख्या में पांडव सैनिकों को मार डाला।

कर्णपुत्रौ च राजेन्द्र भ्रातरौ सत्यविक्रमौ अनाशयेतां बलिनः पाञ्चालान्वै ततस्ततः तत्र युद्धं तदा ह्यासीत्क्रूरं विशसनं महत्

O Indra among kings! The brothers who were Karṇa's sons were also true in their valour. Those powerful ones easily fought with the Pāñcāla-s, here and there. They created a cruel and great destruction among the horses there.

हे राजाओं में इन्द्र! जो भाई कर्ण के पुत्र थे वे भी अपनी वीरता में सच्चे थे। वे शक्तिशाली लोग यहाँ-वहाँ आसानी से पंचालों से लड़े। उन्होंने वहाँ के घोड़ों का क्रूर एवं महान विनाश किया।

तथैव पाण्डवाः शूरा धृष्टद्युम्नशिखण्डिनौ द्रौपदेयाश्च संक्रुद्धा अभ्यघ्नंस्तावकं बलम्

Despite this, the brave Pāṇḍava-s, Dhṛṣṭadyumna, Śikhaṇḍī and Draupadī's sons were enraged and attacked those on your side.

इसके बावजूद, बहादुर पांडव-धृष्टद्युम्न, शिखंडी और द्रौपदी के पुत्र क्रोधित हो गए और आपके पक्ष में उन पर हमला कर दिया।

एवमेष क्षयो वृत्तः पाण्डवानां ततस्ततः तावकानामपि रणे भीमं प्राप्य महाबलम्

In this fashion, there was destruction among the Pāṇḍava-s there and also amongst those on your side, when they clashed against the immensely strong Bhīmā in the battle.

इस प्रकार, युद्ध में अत्यंत बलवान भीम से भिड़ने पर वहां मौजूद पांडवों और आपके पक्ष के लोगों का भी विनाश हो गया।
