संजय उवाच वृषसेनं हतं दृष्ट्वा शोकामर्षसमन्वितः मुक्त्वा शोकोद्भवं वारि नेत्राभ्यां सहसा वृषः

Sañjaya said: On seeing that Vṛṣasena had been killed, Karṇa was overcome by anger and rage. Sudden tears of sorrow flowed down from Vṛṣa's eyes.

संजय ने कहा: यह देखकर कि वृषसेन मारा गया, कर्ण क्रोध और क्रोध से वशीभूत हो गया। वृष की आँखों से सहसा दुःख के आँसू बह निकले।

रथेन कर्णस्तेजस्वी जगामाभिमुखो रिपून् युद्धायामर्षताम्राक्षः समाहूय धनंजयम्

On his chariot, he spiritedly advanced towards the enemy. His eyes were coppery red with rage and he challenged Dhanañjayā to a fight.

अपने रथ पर सवार होकर, वह उत्साहपूर्वक शत्रु की ओर बढ़ा। उसकी आँखें क्रोध से तांबे की तरह लाल हो गईं और उसने धनंजय को युद्ध के लिए ललकारा।

तौ रथौ सूर्यसंकाशौ वैयाघ्रपरिवारणौ समेतौ ददृशुस्तत्र द्वाविवार्कौ समागतौ

Those two chariots were as radiant as the sun and were covered with tiger skins. When they encountered each other, it was as if two suns had clashed against each other.

वे दोनों रथ सूर्य के समान तेजस्वी और व्याघ्रचर्म से ढके हुए थे। जब उनका आमना-सामना हुआ तो ऐसा लगा मानो दो सूरज आपस में टकरा गए हों।

श्वेताश्वौ पुरुषादित्यावास्थितावरिमर्दनौ शुशुभाते महात्मानौ चन्द्रादित्यौ यथा दिवि

Those two men, scorchers of enemies, were like suns and were borne by white horses. Those two greatsouled ones were as radiant as the sun and the moon in the sky.

शत्रुओं को जलाने वाले वे दोनों पुरुष सूर्य के समान थे और श्वेत घोड़ों पर सवार थे। वे दोनों महापुरुष आकाश में सूर्य और चन्द्रमा के समान देदीप्यमान थे।

तौ दृष्ट्वा विस्मयं जग्मुः सर्वभूतानि मारिष त्रैलोक्यविजये यत्ताविन्द्रवैरोचनाविव

O venerable one! On seeing them, all the beings were astounded. They looked like Indra and Virocanā's son, embarking on a conquest of the three worlds.

हे आदरणीय! उन्हें देखकर सभी प्राणी आश्चर्यचकित रह गये। वे इंद्र और विरोचन के पुत्र की तरह दिखते थे, जो तीनों लोकों पर विजय प्राप्त करने के लिए निकले थे।

रथज्यातलनिर्ह्रादैर्बाणशङ्खरवैरपि तौ रथावभिधावन्तौ समालोक्य महीक्षिताम्

There was the clatter of chariots, the twang of bowstrings, the slapping of palms, the whizzing of arrows and the blare of conch shells. As they advanced on their chariots, all the lords of the earth looked on.

वहाँ रथों की गड़गड़ाहट, धनुष की प्रत्यंचा की टंकार, हथेलियों की थाप, बाणों की घरघराहट और शंखों की ध्वनि थी। जैसे ही वे अपने रथों पर आगे बढ़े, पृथ्वी के सभी राजाओं ने उन्हें देखा।

ध्वजौ च दृष्ट्वा संसक्तौ विस्मयः समपद्यत हस्तिकक्ष्यां च कर्णस्य वानरं च किरीटिनः

As they clashed against each other, the standards generated great wonder. Karṇa's had the housing of an elephant and Kirīṭī's the ape.

जैसे ही वे एक-दूसरे से भिड़े, मानकों ने बड़ा आश्चर्य उत्पन्न किया। कर्ण का आवास हाथी और किरीटी का वानर का निवास था।

तौ रथौ संप्रसक्तौ च दृष्ट्वा भारत पार्थिवाः सिंहनादरवांश्चक्रुः साधुवादांश्च पुष्कलान्

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! As the two chariots clashed against each other, the kings looked on. They emitted roars like lions and voiced loud words of applause.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! जैसे ही दोनों रथ एक-दूसरे से टकराये, राजा देखते रह गये। उन्होंने सिंहों की नाईं दहाड़ना और ऊंचे शब्द से तालियां बजाईं।

श्रुत्वा तु द्वैरथं ताभ्यां तत्र योधाः समन्ततः चक्रुर्बाहुवलं चैव तथा चेलवलं महत्

On hearing about the duel between them, the warriors gathered around there. They slapped their arms powerfully and forcefully waved their garments around.

उन दोनों के द्वन्द्वयुद्ध की बात सुनकर सारे योद्धा वहाँ एकत्र हो गये। उन्होंने अपनी भुजाओं पर ज़ोर से थप्पड़ मारा और ज़ोर से अपने कपड़े इधर-उधर लहराये।

आजग्मुः कुरवस्तत्र वादित्रानुगतास्तदा कर्णं प्रहर्षयन्तश्च शङ्खान्दध्मुश्च पुष्कलान्

The Kuru-s assembled there. Wishing to cheer Karṇa, they blew loudly on their conch shells and instructed that musical instruments should be played.

कुरु वहाँ एकत्र हुए। कर्ण को प्रसन्न करने की इच्छा से उन्होंने जोर-जोर से शंख बजाये और संगीत वाद्य बजाने का निर्देश दिया।

तथैव पाण्डवाः सर्वे हर्षयन्तो धनंजयम् तूर्यशङ्खनिनादेन दिशः सर्वा व्यनादयन्

All the Pāṇḍava-s also cheered Dhanañjayā. They caused trumpets and conch shells to be sounded in all the directions.

सभी पांडवों ने भी धनंजय की जय-जयकार की। उन्होंने सभी दिशाओं में तुरही और शंख बजवाये।

क्ष्वेडितास्फोटितोत्क्रुष्टैस्तुमुलं सर्वतोऽभवत् बाहुघोषाश्च वीराणां कर्णार्जुनसमागमे

The roars generated a tumultuous sound everywhere. As Karṇa and Arjuna clashed, the brave ones slapped their arms.

गर्जनाओं से सर्वत्र कोलाहलपूर्ण ध्वनि उत्पन्न हो गई। जैसे ही कर्ण और अर्जुन भिड़े, वीरों ने अपनी भुजाएँ पटक दीं।

तौ दृष्ट्वा पुरुषव्याघ्रौ रथस्थौ रथिनां वरौ प्रगृहीतमहाचापौ शरशक्तिगदायुधौ

They saw that those two tigers among men, supreme among rāṭha-s, were stationed on their chariots. They grasped their giant bows, arrows, javelins, clubs and other weapons.

उन्होंने देखा कि रथों में श्रेष्ठ वे दो नर बाघ उनके रथों पर खड़े हैं। उन्होंने अपने विशाल धनुष, तीर, भाले, गदाएँ और अन्य हथियार पकड़ लिए।

वर्मिणौ बद्धनिस्त्रिंशौ श्वेताश्वौ शङ्खशोभिनौ तूणीरवरसंपन्नौ द्वावपि स्म सुदर्शनौ

They were armoured and had girded their swords. They were borne on white horses that were as beautiful as conch shells. Both of them possessed the best of quivers and were handsome.

वे बख्तरबंद थे और उन्होंने अपनी तलवारें बाँध रखी थीं। वे सफेद घोड़ों पर सवार थे जो शंख के समान सुंदर थे। उन दोनों के पास सर्वोत्तम तरकश थे और वे सुन्दर थे।

रक्तचन्दनदिग्धाङ्गौ समदौ वृषभाविव आशीविषसमप्रख्यौ यमकालान्तकोपमौ

They were smeared with red sandalwood paste on their limbs and were as crazy as bulls. They were like venomous serpents and like Yāma, the Destroyer, in their rage.

उनके अंगों पर लाल चंदन का लेप लगा हुआ था और वे बैल के समान उन्मत्त थे। वे विषैले साँपों के समान थे और क्रोध में विनाशक यम के समान थे।

इन्द्रवृत्राविव क्रुद्धौ सूर्याचन्द्रमसप्रभौ महाग्रहाविव क्रूरौ युगान्ते समुपस्थितौ

They were as wrathful as Indra and Vṛtra and as resplendent as the sun and the moon. They were as cruel as mighty planets that clash at the end of a yuga.

वे इन्द्र और वृत्र के समान क्रोधी और सूर्य तथा चन्द्रमा के समान तेजस्वी थे। वे युग के अंत में टकराने वाले शक्तिशाली ग्रहों के समान क्रूर थे।

देवगर्भौ देवसमौ देवतुल्यौ च रूपतः समेतौ पुरुषव्याघ्रौ प्रेक्ष्य कर्णधनंजयौ

They were born from gods. They were the equals of the gods. They were like the gods in their beauty. Those two tigers among men, Karṇa and Dhanañjayā, clashed and it was a sight worth seeing.

वे देवताओं से पैदा हुए थे. वे देवताओं के तुल्य थे। वे अपनी सुन्दरता में देवताओं के समान थे। वे दो मानव बाघ, कर्ण और धनंजय आपस में भिड़ गए और यह दृश्य देखने लायक था।

उभौ वरायुधधरावुभौ रणकृतश्रमौ उभौ च बाहुशब्देन नादयन्तौ नभस्तलम्

Both of them possessed the best of weapons and both of them were exhausted from fighting. Both of them made the sky resound with the slapping of their arms.

उन दोनों के पास बेहतरीन हथियार थे और वे दोनों ही लड़ते-लड़ते थक गये थे। दोनों ने अपनी भुजाओं की थाप से आकाश गुंजायमान कर दिया।

उभौ विश्रुतकर्माणौ पौरुषेण बलेन च उभौ च सदृशौ युद्धे शम्बरामरराजयोः

Both of them were famous for their deeds, their manliness and their strength. In a battle, both of them were the equals of Śambara and the king of the immortals.

वे दोनों अपने कर्मों, अपने पौरुष और अपनी ताकत के लिए प्रसिद्ध थे। एक युद्ध में, वे दोनों शंबर और अमरों के राजा के बराबर थे।

कार्तवीर्यसमौ युद्धे तथा दाशरथेः समौ विष्णुवीर्यसमौ वीर्ये तथा भवसमौ युधि

In an encounter, both of them were the equals of Kārtavīrya and Dāśaratha's son. Both of them possessed valour that was like Viṣṇu's bravery and both were Bhāva's equal in a fight.

एक मुठभेड़ में, वे दोनों कार्तवीर्य और दशरथ के पुत्र के बराबर थे। उन दोनों में विष्णु की वीरता के समान वीरता थी और लड़ाई में दोनों भाव के बराबर थे।

उभौ श्वेतहयौ राजन्रथप्रवरवाहिनौ सारथी प्रवरौ चैव तयोरास्तां महाबलौ

O king! Both were borne on white horses and on supreme chariots. The charioteers of those immensely strong ones were the best.

हे राजा! दोनों श्वेत घोड़ों और श्रेष्ठ रथों पर सवार थे। उन अत्यंत बलवानों के सारथी श्रेष्ठ थे।

तौ तु दृष्ट्वा महाराज राजमानौ महारथौ सिद्धचारणसंघानां विस्मयः समपद्यत

O great king! On seeing those two blazing mahāratha-s, there was great amazement among the large numbers of siddha-s and cāraṇa-s.

हे महान राजा! उन दोनों तेजस्वी महारथियों को देखकर बड़ी संख्या में सिद्धों और चारणों में बड़ा आश्चर्य हुआ।

धार्तराष्ट्रास्ततः कर्णं सबला भरतर्षभ परिवव्रुर्महात्मानं क्षिप्रमाहवशोभिनम्

O bull among the Bhārata lineage! The sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra quickly surrounded Karṇa, the ornament of a battle, with their army.

हे भरत वंश में बैल! धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्रों ने शीघ्र ही अपनी सेना सहित युद्ध के आभूषण कर्ण को घेर लिया।

तथैव पाण्डवा हृष्टा धृष्टद्युम्नपुरोगमाः परिवव्रुर्महात्मानं पार्थमप्रतिमं युधि

In similar fashion, with Dhṛṣṭadyumna at the forefront, the Pāṇḍava-s joyfully surrounded the great-souled Pārtha, who was unmatched in a battle.

इसी तरह, धृष्टद्युम्न को सबसे आगे रखते हुए, पांडवों ने ख़ुशी से महान आत्मा पार्थ को घेर लिया, जो युद्ध में बेजोड़ थे।

तावकानां रणे कर्णो ग्लह आसीद्विशां पते तथैव पाण्डवेयानां ग्लहः पार्थोऽभवद्युधि

O lord of the earth! For those on your side, Karṇa became the stake in the battle. In that way, for the Pāṇḍaveya-s, Pārtha became the stake in the battle.

हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! आपके पक्ष के लोगों के लिए, कर्ण युद्ध में दांव बन गया। इस तरह, पांडवों के लिए, पार्थ युद्ध का हिस्सा बन गया।

त एव सभ्यास्तत्रासन्प्रेक्षकाश्चाभवन्स्म ते तत्रैषां ग्लहमानानां ध्रुवौ जयपराजयौ

The troops on both sides, and those who had assembled, were eager to witness the encounter. The stakes were determined and it was certain that there would be victory, or there would be defeat.

दोनों तरफ के सैनिक और जो लोग इकट्ठे हुए थे, वे मुठभेड़ देखने के लिए उत्सुक थे। दांव लग चुके थे और ये तय था कि जीत होगी या हार होगी.

ताभ्यां द्यूतं समायत्तं विजयायेतराय वा अस्माकं पाण्डवानां च स्थितानां रणमूर्धनि

Stationed on the field of battle, the gambling match between us and the Pāṇḍava-s commenced, with the objective of victory, or its reverse.

युद्ध के मैदान में तैनात होकर, हमारे और पांडवों के बीच जुआ मैच शुरू हुआ, जीत के उद्देश्य से, या इसके विपरीत।

तौ तु स्थितौ महाराज समरे युद्धशालिनौ अन्योन्यं प्रतिसंरब्धावन्योन्यस्य जयैषिणौ

O great king! Those two, who were skilled in fighting, were stationed in the encounter. They were extremely angry towards each other and wished to defeat each other.

हे महान राजा! वे दोनों, जो युद्ध में कुशल थे, मुठभेड़ में तैनात थे। वे एक-दूसरे के प्रति बेहद क्रोधित थे और एक-दूसरे को हराना चाहते थे।

तावुभौ प्रजिहीर्षेतामिन्द्रवृत्राविवाभितः भीमरूपधरावास्तां महाधूमाविव ग्रहौ

Like Indra and Vṛtra, they wished to kill each other. They assumed fearful forms, like planets trailing a lot of smoke.

इंद्र और वृत्र की तरह, वे एक-दूसरे को मारना चाहते थे। उन्होंने भयावह रूप धारण कर लिया, जैसे ग्रह बहुत सारे धुएं के पीछे चल रहे हों।

ततोऽन्तरिक्षे साक्षेपा विवादा भरतर्षभ मिथो भेदाश्च भूतानामासन्कर्णार्जुनान्तरे व्याश्रयन्त दिशो भिन्नाः सर्वलोकाश्च मारिष

O bull among the Bhārata lineage! As they took sides between Karṇa and Arjuna, there were differences, debates, dissension and arguments among those in the sky and among all beings. O venerable one! The directions and all the worlds also adopted different sides.

हे भरत वंश में बैल! जैसे ही उन्होंने कर्ण और अर्जुन के बीच पक्ष लिया, आकाश में और सभी प्राणियों के बीच मतभेद, बहस, मतभेद और बहस होने लगी। हे आदरणीय! दिशाओं और समस्त लोकों ने भी भिन्न-भिन्न पक्ष अपना लिये।

देवदानवगन्धर्वाः पिशाचोरगराक्षसाः प्रतिपक्षग्रहं चक्रुः कर्णार्जुनसमागमे

When Karṇa and Arjuna clashed, the gods, the dānava-s, the gāndharva-s, the piśāca-s, the serpents and the rākṣasa-s adopted different sides.

जब कर्ण और अर्जुन आपस में भिड़े, तो देवताओं, दानवों, गंधर्वों, पिशाचों, नागों और राक्षसों ने अलग-अलग पक्ष अपना लिए।

द्यौरासीत्कर्णतो व्यग्रा सनक्षत्रा विशां पते भूमिर्विशाला पार्थस्य माता पुत्रस्य भारत

O lord of the earth! The sky and the nakṣatra-s became anxious on Karṇa's account. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! The extensive earth was anxious on Pārtha's account, like a mother for her son.

हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! कर्ण के कारण आकाश और नक्षत्र चिंतित हो गये। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! विस्तृत पृथ्वी पार्थ के लिये उसी प्रकार व्याकुल थी, जैसे कोई माता अपने पुत्र के लिये।

सरितः सागराश्चैव गिरयश्च नरोत्तम वृक्षाश्चौषधयस्तत्र व्याश्रयन्त किरीटिनम्

O supreme among men! The rivers, the oceans, the mountains, the trees and the herbs took Kirīṭī's side.

हे मनुष्यों में श्रेष्ठ! नदियों, समुद्रों, पहाड़ों, पेड़ों और जड़ी-बूटियों ने किरीटी का पक्ष लिया।

असुरा यातुधानाश्च गुह्यकाश्च परंतप कर्णतः समपद्यन्त खेचराणि वयांसि च

O scorcher of enemies! The āsura-s, the yātudhāna-s, the guhyaka-s, crows and others who travelled through the sky were on Karṇa's side.

हे शत्रुओं को भस्म करने वाले! असुर, यातुधान, गुह्यक, कौवे और अन्य जो आकाश में यात्रा कर रहे थे, कर्ण के पक्ष में थे।

रत्नानि निधयः सर्वे वेदाश्चाख्यानपञ्चमाः सोपवेदोपनिषदः सरहस्याः ससंग्रहाः

The stores of all gems, the Veda-s and accounts as the fifth, the minor Veda-s, the Upaniṣad-s, with collections of their commentaries,

सभी रत्नों के भण्डार, वेद और पाँचवें वृत्तांत, लघु वेद, उपनिषद, उनकी टिप्पणियों के संग्रह के साथ,

वासुकिश्चित्रसेनश्च तक्षकश्चोपतक्षकः पर्वताश्च तथा सर्वे काद्रवेयाश्च सान्वयाः विषवन्तो महारोषा नागाश्चार्जुनतोऽभवन्

Vāsuki, Citrasenā, Takṣaka, Upatakshaka, all the mountains, Kadrū's offspring and immensely wrathful and virulent serpents were on Arjuna's side.

वासुकि, चित्रसेना, तक्षक, उपतक्षक, सभी पर्वत, कद्रू की संतानें और अत्यंत क्रोधी और उग्र नाग अर्जुन के पक्ष में थे।

ऐरावताः सौरभेया वैशालेयाश्च भोगिनः एतेऽभवन्नर्जुनतः क्षुद्रसर्पास्तु कर्णतः

Airāvata's offspring, the offspring of Surabhi and Vaiśālī and the serpents were on Arjuna's side. The smaller snakes were on Karṇa's side.

ऐरावत की संतानें, सुरभि और वैशाली की संतानें और नाग अर्जुन के पक्ष में थे। छोटे साँप कर्ण के पक्ष में थे।

ईहामृगा व्याडमृगा मङ्गल्याश्च मृगद्विजाः पार्थस्य विजयं राजन्सर्व एवाभिसंश्रिताः

O king! The wolves, jackals and all the auspicious animals and birds were on Pārtha's side, wishing for his victory.

हे राजा! भेड़िये, सियार और सभी शुभ पशु-पक्षी पार्थ के पक्ष में थे और उसकी विजय की कामना कर रहे थे।

वसवो मरुतः साध्या रुद्रा विश्वेऽश्विनौ तथा अग्निरिन्द्रश्च सोमश्च पवनश्च दिशो दश धनंजयमुपाजग्मुरादित्याः कर्णतोऽभवन्

The Vasu-s, the Marut-s, the Sādhya-s, the Rudra-s, the Viśvā-s, the Aśvin-s, Agni, Indra, the moon god, the wind god and the ten directions were on Dhanañjayā's side, while the Āditya-s were on Karṇa's side.

वसु-स, मरुत-स, साध्य-स, रुद्र-स, विश्व-स, अश्विन-स, अग्नि, इंद्र, चंद्र देवता, वायु देवता और दसों दिशाएँ धनंजय के पक्ष में थीं, जबकि आदित्य-स कर्ण के पक्ष में थे।

देवास्तु पितृभिः सार्धं सगणार्जुनतोऽभवन् यमो वैश्रवणश्चैव वरुणश्च यतोऽर्जुनः

The gods, together with the large number of ancestors, were on Arjuna's side. Yāma, Vaiśravaṇa and Vāruṇa were also with Arjuna.

बड़ी संख्या में पूर्वजों सहित देवता अर्जुन के पक्ष में थे। यम, वैश्रवण और वरुण भी अर्जुन के साथ थे।

देवब्रह्मनृपर्षीणां गणाः पाण्डवतोऽभवन् तुम्बुरुप्रमुखा राजन्गन्धर्वाश्च यतोऽर्जुनः

The gods, the brāhmana-s, the kings and the large number of riṣi-s were with Pāṇḍava. O king! The gāndharva-s, with Tumburu at the head, were with Arjuna.

देवता, ब्राह्मण, राजा और बड़ी संख्या में ऋषि पांडव के साथ थे। हे राजा! तुम्बुरु को सिर पर बैठाकर गंधर्व अर्जुन के साथ थे।

प्रावेयाः सह मौनेयैर्गन्धर्वाप्सरसां गणाः ईहामृगव्याडमृगैर्द्विपाश्च रथपत्तिभिः

The descendants of Pravā and Muni, the large numbers of gāndharva-s and āpsara-s, wolves, predatory beasts, animals, birds, large numbers of chariots,

प्रवा और मुनि के वंशज, बड़ी संख्या में गंधर्व और अप्सराएँ, भेड़िये, शिकारी जानवर, पशु, पक्षी, बड़ी संख्या में रथ,

उह्यमानास्तथा मेघैर्वायुना च मनीषिणः दिदृक्षवः समाजग्मुः कर्णार्जुनसमागमम्

different forms of clouds and winds, and sages assembled there to witness the clash between Karṇa and Arjuna.

कर्ण और अर्जुन के बीच संघर्ष को देखने के लिए विभिन्न प्रकार के बादल और हवाएँ और ऋषि वहाँ एकत्र हुए।

देवदानवगन्धर्वा नागा यक्षाः पतत्रिणः महर्षयो वेदविदः पितरश्च स्वधाभुजः

The gods, the dānava-s, the gāndharva-s, the nāga-s, the yakṣa-s, birds, maharṣi-s learned in the Veda-s, the ancestors who thrive on svadhā oblations,

देवता, दानव, गंधर्व, नाग, यक्ष, पक्षी, वेदों के विद्वान महर्षि, स्वधा यज्ञ पर पलने वाले पूर्वज,

तपो विद्यास्तथौषध्यो नानारूपाम्बरत्विषः अन्तरिक्षे महाराज विनदन्तोऽवतस्थिरे

austerities, learning and the herbs, in many different forms and attires - O great king, all of these took up their places in the firmament and this created a great noise.

तपस्या, शिक्षा और जड़ी-बूटियाँ, कई अलग-अलग रूपों और वेशभूषा में - हे महान राजा, इन सभी ने आकाश में अपना स्थान बना लिया और इससे एक बड़ा शोर पैदा हुआ।

ब्रह्मा ब्रह्मर्षिभिः सार्धं प्रजापतिभिरेव च भवेनावस्थितो यानं दिव्यं तं देशमभ्ययात्

Brahmā, with the brahmarṣi-s and the Prajāpati-s and Bhāva, on his celestial chariot, also arrived at the spot.

ब्रह्मा भी अपने दिव्य रथ पर ब्रह्मर्षियों, प्रजापतियों और भाव के साथ उस स्थान पर पहुंचे।

दृष्ट्वा प्रजापतिं देवाः स्वयंभुवमुपागमन् समोऽस्तु देव विजय एतयोर्नरसिंहयोः

On seeing that Prajāpati, the self-creating one, had arrived, the gods spoke to him. "O god! Let this struggle for victory between these two lions among men be pacified."

यह देखकर कि स्वयं रचयिता प्रजापति आये हैं, देवताओं ने उनसे बात की। "हे भगवान! मनुष्यों के बीच इन दो शेरों के बीच जीत के लिए यह संघर्ष शांत हो जाए।"

तदुपश्रुत्य मघवा प्रणिपत्य पितामहम् कर्णार्जुनविनाशेन मा नश्यत्वखिलं जगत्

Hearing this, Maghavan prostrated himself before the grandfather and said, "Let the entire universe not be destroyed because of Karṇa and Arjuna.

यह सुनकर मघवन ने पितामह को प्रणाम किया और कहा, ''कर्ण और अर्जुन के कारण संपूर्ण ब्रह्मांड नष्ट न हो जाए।

स्वयंभो ब्रूहि तद्वाक्यं समोऽस्तु विजयोऽनयोः तत्तथास्तु नमस्तेऽस्तु प्रसीद भगवन्मम

O self-creating one! You had earlier said that Vijayā and the other one are identical. O illustrious one! I am bowing down before you. Be pacified and let that be true."

हे स्वयं-सृजन करने वाले! आपने पहले कहा था कि विजया और दूसरा एक समान हैं। हे महामहिम! मैं आपके सामने नतमस्तक हूं. शांत रहें और इसे सच होने दें।"

ब्रह्मेशानावथो वाक्यमूचतुस्त्रिदशेश्वरम् विजयो ध्रुव एवास्तु विजयस्य महात्मनः

Brahmā and Īśāna spoke these words to the lord of the thirty gods. "The victory of the great-souled Vijayā is certain.

ब्रह्मा और ईशान ने तीस देवताओं के स्वामी से ये शब्द कहे। "महान आत्मा वाली विजया की जीत निश्चित है।

मनस्वी बलवाञ्शूरः कृतास्त्रश्च तपोधनः बिभर्ति च महातेजा धनुर्वेदमशेषतः

He is spirited, powerful and brave. He is skilled in the use of weapons and is rich in austerities. Great energy is manifested in him, especially in dhanurveda.

वह उत्साही, शक्तिशाली और बहादुर है। वह अस्त्र-शस्त्र चलाने में निपुण और तपस्या में निपुण है। उनमें महान् ऊर्जा प्रकट होती है, विशेषकर धनुर्वेद में।

अतिक्रमेच्च माहात्म्याद्दिष्टमेतस्य पर्ययात् अतिक्रान्ते च लोकानामभावो नियतो भवेत्

Through his greatness, he is capable of overcoming destiny. He is capable of controlling and overcoming the worlds.

अपनी महानता के माध्यम से, वह भाग्य पर विजय पाने में सक्षम है। वह दुनिया को नियंत्रित करने और उन पर विजय पाने में सक्षम है।

न विद्यते व्यवस्थानं कृष्णयोः क्रुद्धयोः क्वचित् स्रष्टारौ ह्यसतश्चोभौ सतश्च पुरुषर्षभौ

When the two Kṛṣṇās are angered, no one is capable of standing before them. Those two bulls among men are truly the creators of the universe.

जब दो कृष्ण क्रोधित होते हैं, तो कोई भी उनके सामने खड़े होने में सक्षम नहीं होता है। मनुष्यों में से वे दो बैल वास्तव में ब्रह्मांड के निर्माता हैं।

नरनारायणावेतौ पुराणावृषिसत्तमौ अनियत्तौ नियन्तारावभीतौ स्म परंतपौ

They are the ancient and supreme riṣi-s Nara and Nārāyaṇa. Those two scorchers of enemies control everything and cannot be controlled by anyone.

वे प्राचीन और सर्वोच्च ऋषि-नर और नारायण हैं। शत्रुओं को झुलसाने वाले वे दो शत्रु हर चीज़ को नियंत्रित करते हैं और किसी के द्वारा भी नियंत्रित नहीं किए जा सकते।

कर्णो लोकानयं मुख्यान्प्राप्नोतु पुरुषर्षभः वीरो वैकर्तनः शूरो विजयस्त्वस्तु कृष्णयोः

Karṇa, foremost in the worlds, is a bull among men. Vaikartaṇa is brave and valiant. But let the two Kṛṣṇās be victorious.

कर्ण, लोकों में अग्रणी, मनुष्यों में एक बैल है। वैकर्तन बहादुर और बहादुर हैं। लेकिन दोनों कृष्णों को विजयी होने दो ।

वसूनां च सलोकत्वं मरुतां वा समाप्नुयात् सहितो द्रोणभीष्माभ्यां नाकलोके महीयताम्

With Droṇa and Bhīṣma, let him obtain the great world of heaven and the worlds of the Vasu-s and the Marut-s."

द्रोण और भीष्म के साथ, उसे स्वर्ग की महान दुनिया और वसु-और मरुत-की दुनिया प्राप्त करने दें।"

इत्युक्तो देवदेवाभ्यां सहस्राक्षोऽब्रवीद्वचः आमन्त्र्य सर्वभूतानि ब्रह्मेशानानुशासनात्

Having heard the words spoken by those two gods of the gods and abiding by the instructions of Brahmā and Īśāna, the one with the one thousand eyes spoke these words to all the beings.

उन दोनों देवों के वचनों को सुनकर तथा ब्रह्मा और ईशान की आज्ञा का पालन करते हुए एक हजार नेत्रों वाले ने समस्त प्राणियों से ये वचन कहे।

श्रुतं भवद्भिर्यत्प्रोक्तं भगवद्भ्यां जगद्धितम् तत्तथा नान्यथा तद्धि तिष्ठध्वं गतमन्यवः

"You have heard what the two illustrious ones have said for the welfare of the universe. It must happen that way and cannot be countered. Therefore, do not be anxious."

"आपने सुना है कि दो प्रतिष्ठित लोगों ने ब्रह्मांड के कल्याण के लिए क्या कहा है। यह उसी तरह से होना चाहिए और इसका विरोध नहीं किया जा सकता है। इसलिए, चिंतित न हों।"

इति श्रुत्वेन्द्रवचनं सर्वभूतानि मारिष विस्मितान्यभवन्राजन्पूजयां चक्रिरे च तत्

O venerable one! O king! Having heard Indra's words, all the beings were astounded and honoured him.

हे आदरणीय! हे राजा! इन्द्र की बात सुनकर सभी प्राणी आश्चर्यचकित हो गये और उनका आदर-सत्कार करने लगे।

व्यसृजंश्च सुगन्धीनि नानारूपाणि खात्तथा पुष्पवर्षाणि विबुधा देवतूर्याण्यवादयन्

The gods showered down many kinds of fragrant flowers from the sky and sounded divine trumpets.

देवताओं ने आकाश से अनेक प्रकार के सुगंधित पुष्पों की वर्षा की तथा दिव्य तुरही बजाई।

दिदृक्षवश्चाप्रतिमं द्वैरथं नरसिंहयोः देवदानवगन्धर्वाः सर्व एवावतस्थिरे रथौ च तौ श्वेतहयौ युक्तकेतू महास्वनौ

To witness the unmatched duel between those two lions among men, all the gods, dānava-s and gāndharva-s waited. The two chariots were yoked to white horses. They possessed standards and made a loud noise.

उन दो मानव सिंहों के बीच बेजोड़ द्वंद्व को देखने के लिए सभी देवता, दानव और गंधर्व प्रतीक्षा कर रहे थे। दोनों रथों पर सफेद घोड़े जुते हुए थे। उनके पास मानक थे और उन्होंने ज़ोर से शोर मचाया।

समागता लोकवीराः शङ्खान्दध्मुः पृथक्पृथक् वासुदेवार्जुनौ वीरौ कर्णशल्यौ च भारत

The brave ones from the world assembled and separately blew on their conch shells. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! So did the brave Vāsudeva and Arjuna and Karṇa and Śalya.

विश्व भर के शूरवीर इकट्ठे हुए और अलग-अलग शंख बजाये। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! वीर वासुदेव, अर्जुन, कर्ण और शल्य ने भी ऐसा ही किया।

तद्भीरुसंत्रासकरं युद्धं समभवत्तदा अन्योन्यस्पर्धिनोर्वीर्ये शक्रशम्बरयोरिव

The battle that generated terror among cowards commenced. They rivalled each other in their valour, like Śākra and Śambara.

कायरों में आतंक उत्पन्न करने वाला युद्ध प्रारम्भ हुआ। वे शक्र और शंबर की तरह अपनी वीरता में एक-दूसरे के प्रतिद्वंदी थे।

तयोर्ध्वजौ वीतमालौ शुशुभाते रथस्थितौ पृथग्रूपौ समार्छन्तौ क्रोधं युद्धे परस्परम्

The two clear and radiant standards were fixed to the chariots. As they angrily prepared to fight each other, they were thick.

रथों पर दो स्पष्ट एवं दीप्तिमान मानक स्थापित किये गये थे। जैसे ही वे गुस्से में एक दूसरे से लड़ने के लिए तैयार हुए, वे मोटे हो गए।

कर्णस्याशीविषनिभा रत्नसारवती दृढा पुरंदरधनुःप्रख्या हस्तिकक्ष्या व्यराजत

Karṇa's resplendent one was marked with an elephant's housing. It was bejewelled and firm, like Purandara's bow, and like a venomous serpent.

कर्ण के देदीप्यमान शरीर पर हाथी का आवास अंकित था। वह पुरंदर के धनुष के समान और विषैले सर्प के समान रत्नजड़ित और दृढ़ था।

कपिश्रेष्ठस्तु पार्थस्य व्यादितास्यो भयंकरः भीषयन्नेव दंष्ट्राभिर्दुर्निरीक्ष्यो रविर्यथा

The best of apes opened its terrible and gaping mouth on Pārtha's. It was extremely fierce and difficult to look at, like the sun.

वानरों में श्रेष्ठ ने अपना भयानक और फैला हुआ मुँह पार्थ पर खोल दिया। वह सूर्य के समान अत्यंत प्रचंड और देखने में कठिन था।

युद्धाभिलाषुको भूत्वा ध्वजो गाण्डीवधन्वनः कर्णध्वजमुपातिष्ठत्सोऽवदीदभिनर्दयन्

Stationed on the standard of the wielder of Gāṇḍīva, it desired a fight. It roared loudly and flung itself on Karṇa's standard.

गाण्डीव के पद पर तैनात होकर, यह युद्ध चाहता था। वह जोर से गर्जना करने लगा और कर्ण के ध्वज पर जा गिरा।

उत्पत्य च महावेगः कक्ष्यामभ्यहनत्कपिः नखैश्च दशनैश्चैव गरुडः पन्नगं यथा

Having descended with great force, the ape used its nails and its teeth to destroy the elephant's housing, like Gāruḍa against serpents.

बड़ी ताकत से उतरकर वानर ने हाथी के आवास को नष्ट करने के लिए अपने नाखूनों और दांतों का इस्तेमाल किया, जैसे गरुड़ ने सांपों के खिलाफ किया था।

सुकिङ्किणीकाभरणा कालपाशोपमायसी अभ्यद्रवत्सुसंक्रुद्धा नागकक्ष्या महाकपिम्

The elephant's housing was well decorated with bells. It was like Yāma's noose and was hard as iron. It angrily attacked the giant ape.

हाथी के आवास को घंटियों से खूब सजाया गया था। वह यम के पाश के समान था और लोहे के समान कठोर था। इसने गुस्से में विशाल वानर पर हमला कर दिया।

उभयोरुत्तमे युद्धे द्वैरथे द्यूत आहृते प्रकुर्वाते ध्वजौ युद्धं प्रत्यहेषन्हयान्हयाः

As those two excellent ones challenged each other to a duel, the standards began to fight each other, wishing to destroy each other.

जैसे ही उन दो उत्कृष्ट लोगों ने एक-दूसरे को द्वंद्वयुद्ध के लिए चुनौती दी, मानक एक-दूसरे को नष्ट करने की इच्छा से एक-दूसरे से लड़ने लगे।

अविध्यत्पुण्डरीकाक्षः शल्यं नयनसायकैः स चापि पुण्डरीकाक्षं तथैवाभिसमैक्षत

Puṇḍarīkākṣa pierced Śalya with the arrows of his sight and he also glanced back at Puṇḍarīkākṣa in a similar way.

पुण्डरीकाक्ष ने अपनी दृष्टि के बाणों से शल्य को घायल कर दिया और उन्होंने भी उसी प्रकार पीछे मुड़कर पुण्डरीकाक्ष की ओर देखा।

तत्राजयद्वासुदेवः शल्यं नयनसायकैः कर्णं चाप्यजयद्दृष्ट्या कुन्तीपुत्रो धनंजयः

Using the arrows of his sight, Vāsudeva defeated Śalya. Kuntī's son, Dhanañjayā, also glanced at Karṇa with his sight and vanquished him.

वासुदेव ने अपने दृष्टिबाणों का प्रयोग करके शल्य को पराजित कर दिया। कुंती के पुत्र धनंजय ने भी अपनी दृष्टि से कर्ण को देखा और उसे परास्त कर दिया।

अथाब्रवीत्सूतपुत्रः शल्यमाभाष्य सस्मितम् यदि पार्थो रणे हन्यादद्य मामिह कर्हिचित् किमुत्तरं तदा ते स्यात्सखे सत्यं ब्रवीहि मे

At this, the son of a sūta smiled and told Śalya, "O friend! If through some means, Pārtha slays me in the battle today, what will you do after that? Tell me truthfully."

इस पर सूतपुत्र ने मुस्कुराते हुए शल्य से कहा, "हे मित्र! यदि आज किसी उपाय से पार्थ मुझे युद्ध में मार डाले, तो उसके बाद तुम क्या करोगे? मुझे सच-सच बताओ।"

शल्य उवाच यदि कर्ण रणे हन्यादद्य त्वां श्वेतवाहनः उभावेकरथेनाहं हन्यां माधवपाण्डवौ

Śalya replied: "O Karṇa! If the one with the white horses kills you in the battle today, I will slay both Mādhava and Pāṇḍava."

शल्य ने उत्तर दिया: "हे कर्ण! यदि आज सफेद घोड़ों वाला तुम्हें युद्ध में मार डालेगा, तो मैं माधव और पांडव दोनों को मार डालूँगा।"

संजय उवाच एवमेव तु गोविंदमर्जुनः प्रत्यभाषत तं प्रहस्याब्रवीत्कृष्णः पार्थं परमिदं वचः

Sañjaya said: In that way, Arjuna also asked Govinda. However, Kṛṣṇā laughed and spoke these supreme words to Pārtha.

संजय ने कहा: इसी तरह, अर्जुन ने भी गोविंदा से पूछा। हालाँकि, कृष्ण ने हँसते हुए पार्थ से ये सर्वोच्च शब्द कहे।

पतेद्दिवाकरः स्थानाच्छीर्येतानेकधा क्षितिः शैत्यमग्निरियान्न त्वा कर्णो हन्याद्धनंजयम्

"The sun may fall down from its place. The earth may shatter into many fragments. The fire may become cold. But Karṇa will not be able to kill Dhanañjayā.

"सूर्य अपने स्थान से गिर सकता है। पृथ्वी कई टुकड़ों में टूट सकती है। आग ठंडी हो सकती है। लेकिन कर्ण धनंजय को नहीं मार पाएगा।

यदि त्वेवं कथंचित्स्याल्लोकपर्यसनं यथा हन्यां कर्णं तथा शल्यं बाहुभ्यामेव संयुगे

However, if this does happen, the world will be destroyed. Using my arms in the battle, I will kill Karṇa and Śalya."

हालाँकि, अगर ऐसा हुआ तो दुनिया नष्ट हो जाएगी। युद्ध में अपनी भुजाओं का उपयोग करके, मैं कर्ण और शल्य को मार डालूँगा।"

इति कृष्णवचः श्रुत्वा प्रहसन्कपिकेतनः अर्जुनः प्रत्युवाचेदं कृष्णमक्लिष्टकारिणम् ममाप्येतावपर्याप्तौ कर्णशल्यौ जनार्दन

Having heard Kṛṣṇā's words, the one with the ape on his banner laughed. Arjuna told Kṛṣṇā, the performer of undecaying deeds, "O Janārdana! Karṇa and Śalya together are not sufficient for me.

कृष्ण की बातें सुनकर वह वानर जिसके ध्वज पर बैठा था, हँसा। अर्जुन ने अक्षय कर्म करने वाले कृष्ण से कहा, "हे जनार्दन! कर्ण और शल्य मिलकर भी मेरे लिए पर्याप्त नहीं हैं।

सपताकाध्वजं कर्णं सशल्यरथवाजिनम् सच्छत्रकवचं चैव सशक्तिशरकार्मुकम्

Karṇa with flags and banners, along with his chariot and horses, along with his javelins. And also with parasol, armor, spear, arrows, and bow.

कर्ण अपने रथों, घोड़ों और भालों सहित, ध्वजाओं और पताकाओं के साथ। और छत्र, कवच, भाला, तीर और धनुष के साथ भी।

द्रष्टास्यद्य शरैः कर्णं रणे कृत्तमनेकधा अद्यैनं सरथं साश्वं सशक्तिकवचायुधम् न हि मे शाम्यते वैरं कृष्णां यत्प्राहसत्पुरा

In the battle today, you will see Karṇa severed into many fragments with my arrows, with Karṇa's flags and standard, with Śalya, the chariot and the horses, with his umbrella and armour, and with his javelins, arrows and bow. In earlier times, he laughed at Kṛṣṇā.

आज के युद्ध में तुम मेरे बाणों से कर्ण को, कर्ण की ध्वजाओं और ध्वजों सहित, शल्य, रथ और घोड़ों, उसकी छत्रछाया और कवच तथा उसके भालों, बाणों और धनुष से अनेक टुकड़ों में बंटा हुआ देखोगे। पहले के समय में, वह कृष्ण पर हँसते थे।

अद्य द्रष्टासि गोविन्द कर्णमुन्मथितं मया वारणेनेव मत्तेन पुष्पितं जगतीरुहम्

O Govinda! Today, you will see Karṇa uprooted by me, like a flowering tree brought down by a maddened elephant.

हे गोविंद! आज तुम कर्ण को मेरे द्वारा उखाड़ा हुआ देखोगे, जैसे किसी पागल हाथी द्वारा गिराये गये पुष्पमय वृक्ष को।

अद्य ता मधुरा वाचः श्रोतासि मधुसूदन अद्याभिमन्युजननीमनृणः सान्त्वयिष्यसि कुन्तीं पितृष्वसारं च संप्रहृष्टो जनार्दन

O Madhusūdana! After that, you will hear pleasant words today. Today, you will be able to comfort Abhimanyu's mother and repay her debt. O Janārdana! Kuntī, your father's sister, will be delighted.

हे मधुसूदन! उसके बाद आज आपको सुखद बातें सुनने को मिलेंगी. आज आप अभिमन्यु की मां को सांत्वना दे पाएंगे और उनका कर्ज उतार पाएंगे। हे जनार्दन! तुम्हारे पिता की बहन कुन्ती प्रसन्न होगी।

अद्य बाष्पमुखीं कृष्णां सान्त्वयिष्यसि माधव वाग्भिश्चामृतकल्पाभिर्धर्मराजं युधिष्ठिरम्

O Mādhava! The tears on Kṛṣṇā's face will be comforted today. You will be able to speak immortal words to Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira."

हे माधव! कृष्ण के चेहरे पर आँसुओं को आज तसल्ली होगी। तुम धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर को अमर वचन बोलने में समर्थ होगे।"
