द्रौपद्युवाच अशोच्यं नु कुतस्तस्या यस्या भर्ता युधिष्ठिरः जानन्सर्वाणि दुःखानि किं मां त्वं परिपृच्छसि

Draupadī said: "How can a woman, who has Yudhiṣṭhira as a husband, not be sorrowful? You know all my miseries. Why are you asking me?

द्रौपदी ने कहा: "जिस स्त्री का पति युधिष्ठिर हो, वह दुखी कैसे नहीं होगी? आप मेरे सारे दुख जानते हैं। आप मुझसे क्यों पूछ रहे हैं?"

यन्मां दासीप्रवादेन प्रातिकामी तदानयत् सभायां पार्षदो मध्ये तन्मां दहति भारत

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! It burns me that an usher dragged me to an assembly hall, in the midst of the courtiers, calling me a servant maid.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! मैं इस बात से जल रहा हूं कि दरबारियों के बीच में एक प्रवेशक मुझे नौकरानी कहकर घसीटकर सभा भवन में ले गया।

पार्थिवस्य सुता नाम का नु जीवेत मादृशी अनुभूय भृशं दुःखमन्यत्र द्रौपदीं प्रभो

O lord! Which other daughter of a king, but for Draupadī, would wish to live like me, after enduring such miseries?

हे भगवान! द्रौपदी के अलावा कौन सी राजा की बेटी ऐसे दुखों को सहने के बाद मेरे जैसा जीना चाहेगी?

वनवासगतायाश्च सैन्धवेन दुरात्मना परामर्शं द्वितीयं च सोढुमुत्सहते नु का

When dwelling in the forest, who else but me would endure being molested a second time by the evil-minded Saindhava?

वन में निवास करते समय मेरे अतिरिक्त कौन दुष्टात्मा सैन्धव द्वारा दूसरी बार उत्पीड़ित होना सहन करेगा?

मत्स्यराज्ञः समक्षं च तस्य धूर्तस्य पश्यतः कीचकेन पदा स्पृष्टा का नु जीवेत मादृशी

Barring me, who else can bear to be alive after having been kicked by Kīcaka with his feet, in the presence of the king of Mātsya and while that gamester looked on?

मत्स्य राजा की उपस्थिति में कीचक द्वारा अपने पैरों से मारे जाने के बाद और जब वह जुआरी देखता रह गया हो तो मेरे अलावा और कौन जीवित रहना सहन कर सकता है?

एवं बहुविधैः क्लेशैः क्लिश्यमानां च भारत न मां जानासि कौन्तेय किं फलं जीवितेन मे

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! I have been tormented by several miseries like these. O Kaunteya! Don't you know them? How does it profit me to be alive?

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! मैं इस तरह के कई दुखों से परेशान हो चुका हूं।' हे कौन्तेय! क्या आप उन्हें नहीं जानते? जीवित रहने से मुझे क्या लाभ है?

योऽयं राज्ञो विराटस्य कीचको नाम भारत सेनानीः पुरुषव्याघ्र स्यालः परमदुर्मतिः

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! O tiger among men! The evil-minded Kīcaka is King Virāṭa's general and brother-in-law.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! हे मनुष्यों में बाघ! दुष्ट मन वाला कीचक राजा विराट का सेनापति और बहनोई है।

स मां सैरन्ध्रिवेषेण वसन्तीं राजवेश्मनि नित्यमेवाह दुष्टात्मा भार्या मम भवेति वै

While I dwell in the king's residence in the disguise of Sairandhrī, the evil-minded one incessantly addresses me, asking me to be his wife.

जब मैं सैरंध्री के भेष में राजा के निवास में रहती हूं, तो वह दुष्टात्मा बार-बार मुझे संबोधित करता है और मुझसे उसकी पत्नी बनने के लिए कहता है।

तेनोपमन्त्र्यमाणाया वधार्हेण सपत्नहन् कालेनेव फलं पक्वं हृदयं मे विदीर्यते

O destroyer of enemies! Thus addressed by one who deserves to be killed, my heart is bursting out, like a fruit that time has ripened."

हे शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले! जो मारे जाने के योग्य है उसके द्वारा इस प्रकार संबोधित किये जाने पर मेरा हृदय उस समय पके हुए फल की भाँति फूट रहा है।"

भ्रातरं च विगर्हस्व ज्येष्ठं दुर्द्यूतदेविनम् यस्यास्मि कर्मणा प्राप्ता दुःखमेतदनन्तकम्

You should censure your elder brother, who is addicted to gambling. It is because of his deeds that I confront these unending calamities.

आपको अपने बड़े भाई की निंदा करनी चाहिए, जो जुए का आदी है। यह उनके कर्मों के कारण है कि मैं इन अंतहीन आपदाओं का सामना करता हूं।

को हि राज्यं परित्यज्य सर्वस्वं चात्मना सह प्रव्रज्यायैव दीव्येत विना दुर्द्यूतदेविनम्

Who else but him, addicted to gambling, would give up his kingdom, all his possessions and his own self, so as to spend a life in the forest?

जुए की लत के कारण उसके अलावा और कौन होगा, जो जंगल में जीवन बिताने के लिए अपना राज्य, अपनी सारी संपत्ति और खुद को त्याग देगा?

यदि निष्कसहस्रेण यच्चान्यत्सारवद्धनम् सायंप्रातरदेविष्यदपि संवत्सरान्बहून्

If he had played from morning till evening for many years and wagered property worth one thousand niṣkā-s each time,

यदि वह कई वर्षों तक सुबह से शाम तक खेलता और हर बार एक हजार निष्क की संपत्ति दांव पर लगाता,

रुक्मं हिरण्यं वासांसि यानं युग्यमजाविकम् अश्वाश्वतरसंघांश्च न जातु क्षयमावहेत्

there would have been no decrease in the value of his golden ornaments, golden coins, garments, vehicles, teams of animals, goats, sheep, horses and mules.

उसके स्वर्ण आभूषणों, स्वर्ण मुद्राओं, वस्त्रों, वाहनों, पशुओं के दल, बकरियों, भेड़ों, घोड़ों और खच्चरों के मूल्य में कोई कमी नहीं होती।

सोऽयं द्यूतप्रवादेन श्रिया प्रत्यवरोपितः तूष्णीमास्ते यथा मूढः स्वानि कर्माणि चिन्तयन्

Under the guise of a gambling match, he has been dislodged from all his prosperity. He is now silent like a stupid person, reflecting about his own deeds.

जुए की आड़ में उसे उसकी सारी समृद्धि से बेदखल कर दिया गया है। वह अब मूर्ख की भाँति चुप होकर अपने कर्मों पर विचार कर रहा है।

दश नागसहस्राणि पद्मिनां हेममालिनाम् यं यान्तमनुयान्तीह सोऽयं द्यूतेन जीवति

When he went out, ten thousand elephants, garlanded with gold and bearing the marks of lotuses, followed him. He now earns a livelihood through dice.

जब वह बाहर निकले तो सोने की माला पहने और कमल के निशान धारण किए हुए दस हजार हाथी उनके पीछे चल रहे थे। वह अब पासों के माध्यम से आजीविका कमाता है।

तथा शतसहस्राणि नृणाममिततेजसाम् उपासते महाराजमिन्द्रप्रस्थे युधिष्ठिरम्

A hundred thousand infinitely energetic men showed homage to the great king Yudhiṣṭhira in Indraprastha.

इंद्रप्रस्थ में एक लाख असीम ऊर्जावान पुरुषों ने महान राजा युधिष्ठिर को श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की।

शतं दासीसहस्राणि यस्य नित्यं महानसे पात्रीहस्तं दिवारात्रमतिथीन्भोजयन्त्युत

A hundred thousand servant maids always served him in the kitchen, with plates in their hands, serving guests morning and night.

रसोई में एक लाख दास-दासियाँ हाथों में थालियाँ लेकर सुबह-शाम मेहमानों की सेवा करती रहती थीं।

एष निष्कसहस्राणि प्रदाय ददतां वरः द्यूतजेन ह्यनर्थेन महता समुपावृतः

The supreme among generous ones gave away a thousand niṣkā-s. He is now confronted with this great calamity because of his gambling.

दानियों में श्रेष्ठ ने एक हजार निष्काएँ दे दीं। जुए के कारण अब उसे इस बड़ी विपत्ति का सामना करना पड़ा है।

एनं हि स्वरसंपन्ना बहवः सूतमागधाः सायंप्रातरुपातिष्ठन्सुमृष्टमणिकुण्डलाः

Many bards and minstrels, with beautiful voices and adorned with decorated and bejewelled earrings, showed him homage in the morning and the evening.

बहुत से भाट और वादक, सुंदर आवाज वाले और सजी-धजी और रत्नजटित बालियों से सजे हुए, सुबह और शाम को उन्हें श्रद्धांजलि देते थे।

सहस्रमृषयो यस्य नित्यमासन्सभासदः तपःश्रुतोपसंपन्नाः सर्वकामैरुपस्थिताः

One thousand riṣi-s were always seated in his assembly hall. They were rich in austerities and learning and all their wishes were attended to.

उनके सभा भवन में सदैव एक हजार ऋषि बैठा करते थे। वे तपस्या और विद्या के धनी थे और उनकी सभी इच्छाएँ पूरी की जाती थीं।

अन्धान्वृद्धांस्तथानाथान्सर्वान्राष्ट्रेषु दुर्गतान् बिभर्त्यविमना नित्यमानृशंस्याद्युधिष्ठिरः

Without any distraction, he supported the blind, the aged, the unprotected and the destitute of the kingdom. Yudhiṣṭhira was always devoted to non-violence.

बिना किसी विचलित हुए उन्होंने राज्य के अंधों, वृद्धों, असुरक्षितों और निराश्रितों की सहायता की। युधिष्ठिर सदैव अहिंसा के प्रति समर्पित थे।

स एष निरयं प्राप्तो मत्स्यस्य परिचारकः सभायां देविता राज्ञः कङ्को ब्रूते युधिष्ठिरः

He has now found hell as Mātsya's servant. Yudhiṣṭhira calls himself Kaṅka, the gambler in the king's assembly hall.

मत्स्य के सेवक के रूप में अब उसे नरक मिल गया है। युधिष्ठिर स्वयं को राजा के सभा कक्ष में जुआ खेलने वाला कंक कहते हैं।

इन्द्रप्रस्थे निवसतः समये यस्य पार्थिवाः आसन्बलिभृतः सर्वे सोऽद्यान्यैर्भृतिमिच्छति

At the time when he lived in Indraprastha, all the kings brought him tribute. He now seeks a salary from others.

जिस समय वह इन्द्रप्रस्थ में रहता था, उस समय सभी राजा उसे कर देते थे। वह अब दूसरों से वेतन मांगता है।

पार्थिवाः पृथिवीपाला यस्यासन्वशवर्तिनः स वशे विवशो राजा परेषामद्य वर्तते

He was a protector of the earth and all the kings were under his suzerainty. The king has now lost his powers and is under someone else's control.

वह पृथ्वी का रक्षक था और सभी राजा उसके अधीन थे। राजा अब अपनी शक्तियाँ खो चुका है और किसी और के नियंत्रण में है।

प्रताप्य पृथिवीं सर्वां रश्मिवानिव तेजसा सोऽयं राज्ञो विराटस्य सभास्तारो युधिष्ठिरः

Like the one with the rays, he dazzled the entire earth with his energy. But that Yudhiṣṭhira is now a gambler in King Virāṭa's court.

किरणों वाले की तरह, उन्होंने अपनी ऊर्जा से पूरी पृथ्वी को चकाचौंध कर दिया। लेकिन वह युधिष्ठिर अब राजा विराट के दरबार में जुआरी है।

यमुपासन्त राजानः सभायामृषिभिः सह तमुपासीनमद्यान्यं पश्य पाण्डव पाण्डवम्

O Pāṇḍava! Behold that Pāṇḍava! He was one whom kings honoured in his assembly hall, accompanied by the riṣi-s. He is now seated below another.

हे पाण्डव! देखो उस पाण्डव को! वह वह व्यक्ति था जिसे राजा अपने सभा कक्ष में ऋषियों के साथ सम्मानित करते थे। वह अब दूसरे के नीचे बैठा है।

अतदर्हं महाप्राज्ञं जीवितार्थेऽभिसंश्रितम् दृष्ट्वा कस्य न दुःखं स्याद्धर्मात्मानं युधिष्ठिरम्

The immensely wise one now seeks livelihood from another. Who will not suffer on seeing the undeserving Yudhiṣṭhira, with dharma in his soul, thus?

अत्यंत बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति अब दूसरे से आजीविका चाहता है। इस प्रकार आत्मा में धर्म रखते हुए अयोग्य युधिष्ठिर को देखकर किसे कष्ट नहीं होगा?

उपास्ते स्म सभायां यं कृत्स्ना वीर वसुंधरा तमुपासीनमद्यान्यं पश्य भारत भारतम्

The entire earth served that brave one in his assembly hall. He is now seated below another. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Behold that descendant of the Bhārata lineage!

संपूर्ण पृथ्वी ने उस वीर की उसके सभा भवन में सेवा की। वह अब दूसरे के नीचे बैठा है। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! भरत वंश के उस वंशज को देखो!

एवं बहुविधैर्दुःखैः पीड्यमानामनाथवत् शोकसागरमध्यस्थां किं मां भीम न पश्यसि

I am now like an unprotected one, having suffered from many such misfortunes. I am now in the midst of an ocean of grief. O Bhīmā! Do you not see?"

ऐसे कई दुर्भाग्य झेलकर मैं अब एक असुरक्षित व्यक्ति की तरह हूं। मैं अब दुःख के सागर के बीच में हूँ। हे भीम! क्या तुम्हें दिखाई नहीं देता?”
