वैशंपायन उवाच याते त्रिगर्तं मत्स्ये तु पशूंस्तान्स्वान्परीप्सति दुर्योधनः सहामात्यो विराटमुपयादथ

Vaiśampāyana said: After Mātsya followed Trigarta to recover his animal, Duryodhana and his advisers invaded Virāṭa's kingdom.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: जब मत्स्य ने अपने जानवर को वापस पाने के लिए त्रिगर्त का पीछा किया, तो दुर्योधन और उसके सलाहकारों ने विराट के राज्य पर आक्रमण किया।

भीष्मो द्रोणश्च कर्णश्च कृपश्च परमास्त्रवित् द्रौणिश्च सौबलश्चैव तथा दुःशासनः प्रभुः

Bhīṣma, Droṇa, Karṇa, Kṛpa who was supremely skilled in weapons, Droṇa's son, Saubala, the lord Duḥśāsana,

भीष्म, द्रोण, कर्ण, कृपा जो हथियारों में परम कुशल थे, द्रोण के पुत्र, सौबल, भगवान दु:शासन,

विविंशतिर्विकर्णश्च चित्रसेनश्च वीर्यवान् दुर्मुखो दुःसहश्चैव ये चैवान्ये महारथाः

Viviṃśati, Vikarṇa, the valorous Citrasenā, Durmukha, Duḥsaha and other mahāratha-s

विविंशति, विकर्ण, वीर चित्रसेन, दुर्मुख, दु:सह और अन्य महारथी

एते मत्स्यानुपागम्य विराटस्य महीपतेः घोषान्विद्राव्य तरसा गोधनं जह्रुरोजसा

invaded King Virāṭa's kingdom of Mātsya. They swiftly captured the cattle stations and plundered the riches of cattle.

राजा विराट के मत्स्य राज्य पर आक्रमण किया। उन्होंने तेजी से मवेशी स्टेशनों पर कब्जा कर लिया और मवेशियों के धन को लूट लिया।

षष्टिं गवां सहस्राणि कुरवः कालयन्ति ते महता रथवंशेन परिवार्य समन्ततः

Encircling them on every side with a large collection of chariots, the Kuru-s seized sixty thousand cows.

कौरवों ने विशाल रथों से उन्हें चारों ओर से घेरकर साठ हजार गौएँ छीन लीं।

गोपालानां तु घोषेषु हन्यतां तैर्महारथैः आरावः सुमहानासीत्संप्रहारे भयंकरे

The cowherds were killed by those mahāratha-s in that terrible encounter and a great lamentation arose.

उस भयानक मुठभेड़ में उन महारथियों द्वारा ग्वालों को मार डाला गया और महान विलाप उत्पन्न हुआ।

गवाध्यक्षस्तु संत्रस्तो रथमास्थाय सत्वरः जगाम नगरायैव परिक्रोशंस्तदार्तवत्

The chief of the cowherds was terrified. In great affliction, he quickly mounted a chariot and left for the city.

ग्वालों का मुखिया भयभीत हो गया। बड़े कष्ट में वह शीघ्रता से रथ पर चढ़कर नगर की ओर चल पड़ा।

स प्रविश्य पुरं राज्ञो नृपवेश्माभ्ययात्ततः अवतीर्य रथात्तूर्णमाख्यातुं प्रविवेश ह

Entering the city, he went to the king's residence. Descending swiftly from the chariot, he entered and recounted what had happened.

नगर में प्रवेश कर वह राजा के निवास पर गया। वह तेजी से रथ से उतरकर अंदर गया और जो कुछ हुआ था उसे बयान किया।

दृष्ट्वा भूमिंजयं नाम पुत्रं मत्स्यस्य मानिनम् तस्मै तत्सर्वमाचष्ट राष्ट्रस्य पशुकर्षणम्

He saw Mātsya's insolent son, named Bhūmiñjaya, there. He told him everything about how the animals of the kingdom had been plundered.

उन्होंने वहां मत्स्य के भूमिंजय नाम के उद्दंड पुत्र को देखा। उसने उसे सब कुछ बताया कि राज्य के जानवरों को कैसे लूटा गया था।

षष्टिं गवां सहस्राणि कुरवः कालयन्ति ते तद्विजेतुं समुत्तिष्ठ गोधनं राष्ट्रवर्धनम्

"The Kuru-s are taking away sixty thousand cows. Cattle bring prosperity to the kingdom. Arise and bring them back.

"कुरु साठ हजार गायों को ले जा रहे हैं। मवेशी राज्य में समृद्धि लाते हैं। उठो और उन्हें वापस ले आओ।"

राजपुत्र हितप्रेप्सुः क्षिप्रं निर्याहि वै स्वयम् त्वां हि मत्स्यो महीपालः शून्यपालमिहाकरोत्

O prince! If you have our welfare in mind, swiftly march out yourself. King Matysa left you in charge of the empty kingdom.

हे राजकुमार! यदि आपके मन में हमारा कल्याण है, तो तेजी से आगे बढ़ें। राजा मत्यसा ने आपको खाली राज्य का प्रभारी छोड़ दिया।

त्वया परिषदो मध्ये श्लाघते स नराधिपः पुत्रो ममानुरूपश्च शूरश्चेति कुलोद्वहः

In the midst of the courtiers, that lord of men takes pride in you. "My son is like me. He is brave and is an extender of the lineage.

दरबारियों के बीच में, वह मनुष्यों का स्वामी तुम पर गर्व करता है। "मेरा बेटा मेरे जैसा है। वह बहादुर है और वंश का विस्तारक है।"

इष्वस्त्रे निपुणो योधः सदा वीरश्च मे सुतः तस्य तत्सत्यमेवास्तु मनुष्येन्द्रस्य भाषितम्

He is a warrior who is skilled in the use of arrows and weapons. My son is always courageous." Make those words of that Indra among men come true.

वह एक योद्धा है जो तीर और हथियारों के इस्तेमाल में कुशल है। मेरा पुत्र सदैव साहसी है।'' मनुष्यों में उस इन्द्र के इन वचनों को सत्य करो।

आवर्तय कुरूञ्जित्वा पशून्पशुमतां वर निर्दहैषामनीकानि भीमेन शरतेजसा

O supreme among those who possesses animals! Restrain the Kuru-s and recover the animals. Burn them down with your terrible shafts and energetic arrows.

हे पशुओं को धारण करने वालों में श्रेष्ठ! कुरु-ओं को रोकें और जानवरों को पुनः प्राप्त करें। अपने भयानक बाणों और ओजस्वी बाणों से उन्हें जला डालो।

धनुश्च्युतै रुक्मपुङ्खैः शरैः संनतपर्वभिः द्विषतां भिन्ध्यनीकानि गजानामिव यूथपः

Unleash arrows with golden shafts, with smooth tufts, from your bow. Destroy the enemies, like the leader of a herd of elephants.

अपने धनुष से चिकने गुच्छों वाले सुनहरे बाणों वाले बाण छोड़ें। हाथियों के झुंड के नेता की तरह, दुश्मनों को नष्ट करें।

पाशोपधानां ज्यातन्त्रीं चापदण्डां महास्वनाम् शरवर्णां धनुर्वीणां शत्रुमध्ये प्रवादय

Your bow is like a veena, the string is the chord. The handle is the base. The loops are the two blocks at the end. The arrows are the notes and strike them in the midst of the enemies.

तुम्हारा धनुष वीणा के समान है, तार ही राग है। हैंडल आधार है. लूप अंत में दो ब्लॉक हैं। तीर नोट हैं और दुश्मनों के बीच में उन्हें मारते हैं।

श्वेता रजतसंकाशा रथे युज्यन्तु ते हयाः ध्वजं च सिंहं सौवर्णमुच्छ्रयन्तु तवाभिभोः

Your steeds are as white as silver. Let them be yoked to the chariot. O lord! Your pennant has the emblem of a golden lion. Let it be raised.

तेरे घोड़े चाँदी के समान श्वेत हैं। उन्हें रथ में जोत दिया जाये। हे भगवान! आपकी पताका पर स्वर्ण सिंह का चिह्न है। इसे ऊपर उठाया जाए.

रुक्मपुङ्खाः प्रसन्नाग्रा मुक्ता हस्तवता त्वया छादयन्तु शराः सूर्यं राज्ञामायुर्निरोधिनः

Your arrows have golden shafts. They are smooth at the tip. Let them be released from your skilful hands and they will overshadow these kings like the sun and reduce their lives.

आपके बाणों में सुनहरे बाण हैं। वे सिरे पर चिकने होते हैं। उन्हें अपने कुशल हाथों से मुक्त कर दो और वे सूर्य के समान इन राजाओं पर छा जायेंगे और उनके जीवन को क्षीण कर देंगे।

रणे जित्वा कुरून्सर्वान्वज्रपाणिरिवासुरान् यशो महदवाप्य त्वं प्रविशेदं पुरं पुनः

Defeat all the Kuru-s in battle, like the wielder of the vajra against the āsura-s. Having attained great fame, return again to the city.

असुरों के विरुद्ध वज्र धारण करने वाले की भाँति युद्ध में समस्त कुरुओं को परास्त करो। अत्यधिक प्रसिद्धि पाकर पुनः नगर में लौट आओ।

त्वं हि राष्ट्रस्य परमा गतिर्मत्स्यपतेः सुतः गतिमन्तो भवन्त्वद्य सर्वे विषयवासिनः

You are the son of the lord of Mātsya. You are the supreme refuge of the kingdom. Let all of us who reside in the kingdom find refuge in you today."

आप मत्स्य भगवान के पुत्र हैं। आप राज्य के परम आश्रय हैं। आइए हम सभी जो राज्य में रहते हैं, आज आपकी शरण पाएं।"

स्त्रीमध्य उक्तस्तेनासौ तद्वाक्यमभयंकरम् अन्तःपुरे श्लाघमान इदं वचनमब्रवीत्

Having been thus addressed by these terrible words in the midst of the women, he proudly spoke these words in the inner quarters.

स्त्रियों के बीच में इन भयानक शब्दों से संबोधित होने के बाद, उन्होंने गर्व से आंतरिक कक्ष में ये शब्द कहे।
