द्रुपद उवाच भूतानां प्राणिनः श्रेष्ठाः प्राणिनां बुद्धिजीविनः बुद्धिमत्सु नराः श्रेष्ठा नराणां तु द्विजातयः

Drupada said: "Among all beings, beings who sustain life through intelligence are superior. Among those that have intelligence, men are superior; and among men, brāhmana-s.

द्रुपद ने कहा: "सभी प्राणियों में, जो प्राणी बुद्धि के माध्यम से जीवन का निर्वाह करते हैं, वे श्रेष्ठ हैं। जिनके पास बुद्धि है, उनमें मनुष्य श्रेष्ठ हैं; और मनुष्यों में, ब्राह्मण श्रेष्ठ हैं।"

द्विजेषु वैद्याः श्रेयांसो वैद्येषु कृतबुद्धयः स भवान्कृतबुद्धीनां प्रधान इति मे मतिः

Among brāhmana-s, those who know the Veda-s are superior; and among those who know the Veda-s, those who have achieved understanding. It is my view that you are the foremost among those who have achieved understanding.

ब्राह्मणों में वेद जानने वाले श्रेष्ठ हैं; और वेदों को जानने वालों में, जिन्होंने समझ प्राप्त कर ली है। मेरा विचार है कि जिन लोगों ने समझ प्राप्त कर ली है उनमें आप अग्रणी हैं।

कुलेन च विशिष्टोऽसि वयसा च श्रुतेन च प्रज्ञयानवमश्चासि शुक्रेणाङ्गिरसेन च

You have been born in a distinguished lineage and possess age and learning. In wisdom, you are the equal of Śukra and Āṅgirasa.

आपका जन्म एक प्रतिष्ठित वंश में हुआ है और आप आयु तथा विद्या से युक्त हैं। ज्ञान में आप शुक्र और अंगिरस के समान हैं।

विदितं चापि ते सर्वं यथावृत्तः स कौरवः पाण्डवश्च यथावृत्तः कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः

You know everything about the kind of conduct Kaurava follows. You know the conduct of Kuntī's son, Pāṇḍava Yudhiṣṭhira.

कौरव किस प्रकार का आचरण करते हैं, यह तो आप सब जानते ही हैं। आप कुंती पुत्र पांडव युधिष्ठिर के आचरण को जानते हैं।

धृतराष्ट्रस्य विदिते वञ्चिताः पाण्डवाः परैः विदुरेणानुनीतोऽपि पुत्रमेवानुवर्तते

The Pāṇḍava-s were deceived by their enemies, with Dhṛtarāṣṭra's knowledge. Though Vidūra entreated him, he followed his son alone.

धृतराष्ट्र के ज्ञान से पांडवों को उनके शत्रुओं ने धोखा दिया था। हालाँकि विदुर ने उनसे विनती की, लेकिन उन्होंने अकेले ही अपने बेटे का पीछा किया।

शकुनिर्बुद्धिपूर्वं हि कुन्तीपुत्रं समाह्वयत् अनक्षज्ञं मताक्षः सन्क्षत्रवृत्ते स्थितं शुचिम्

It was on Śākuni's advice that Kuntī's son had been challenged earlier. He was unskilled in dice and they were skilled in dice, but he was steadfast in the pure conduct of a kṣatriya.

शकुनि की सलाह पर ही कुंती के पुत्र को पहले चुनौती दी गई थी। वह पासों में अकुशल था और वे पासों में कुशल थे, लेकिन वह क्षत्रिय के शुद्ध आचरण पर दृढ़ था।

ते तथा वञ्चयित्वा तु धर्मपुत्रं युधिष्ठिरम् न कस्यांचिदवस्थायां राज्यं दास्यन्ति वै स्वयम्

Thus it was that Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira was deceived. Under no circumstances will they return the kingdom of their own accord.

इस प्रकार धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर को धोखा दिया गया। वे किसी भी परिस्थिति में अपनी इच्छा से राज्य वापस नहीं करेंगे।

भवांस्तु धर्मसंयुक्तं धृतराष्ट्रं ब्रुवन्वचः मनांसि तस्य योधानां ध्रुवमावर्तयिष्यति

But you should speak words full of dharma to Dhṛtarāṣṭra. It is certain that you will then win the hearts of his soldiers.

परंतु तुम्हें धृतराष्ट्र से धर्म से परिपूर्ण वचन बोलना चाहिए। यह निश्चित है कि आप उसके सैनिकों का दिल जीत लेंगे।

विदुरश्चापि तद्वाक्यं साधयिष्यति तावकम् भीष्मद्रोणकृपाणां च भेदं संजनयिष्यति

Vidūra will also act in accordance with your words and bring about dissension in Bhīṣma, Droṇa and Kṛpa.

विदुर भी आपके शब्दों के अनुसार कार्य करेंगे और भीष्म, द्रोण और कृपा में मतभेद पैदा करेंगे।

अमात्येषु च भिन्नेषु योधेषु विमुखेषु च पुनरेकाग्रकरणं तेषां कर्म भविष्यति

With dissension among his advisers and reluctance among his warriors, he will then face a task in bringing them together again.

अपने सलाहकारों के बीच मतभेद और अपने योद्धाओं के बीच अनिच्छा के कारण, उन्हें फिर से उन्हें एक साथ लाने की चुनौती का सामना करना पड़ेगा।

एतस्मिन्नन्तरे पार्थाः सुखमेकाग्रबुद्धयः सेनाकर्म करिष्यन्ति द्रव्याणां चैव संचयम्

Meanwhile, the intelligent Pārtha-s will happily and single-mindedly devote their attention to military matters and to the collection of supplies.

इस बीच, बुद्धिमान पार्थ-एस ख़ुशी से और एक-दिमाग से अपना ध्यान सैन्य मामलों और आपूर्ति के संग्रह में लगाएंगे।

भिद्यमानेषु च स्वेषु लम्बमाने च वै त्वयि न तथा ते करिष्यन्ति सेनाकर्म न संशयः

There will be dissension among the others and you will spend a long time there. There is no doubt that they will not be able to pay attention to military matters.

दूसरों के बीच मतभेद होगा और आप वहां लंबा समय बिताएंगे। इसमें कोई शक नहीं कि वे सैन्य मामलों पर ध्यान नहीं दे पाएंगे.

एतत्प्रयोजनं चात्र प्राधान्येनोपलभ्यते संगत्या धृतराष्ट्रश्च कुर्याद्धर्म्यं वचस्तव

I feel that this necessary task is your main purpose in being there. After meeting with you and listening to your words, Dhṛtarāṣṭra may decide to act according to dharma.

मुझे लगता है कि यह आवश्यक कार्य ही आपके वहां होने का मुख्य उद्देश्य है। आपसे मिलने और आपकी बातें सुनने के बाद धृतराष्ट्र धर्म के अनुसार कार्य करने का निर्णय ले सकते हैं।

स भवान्धर्मयुक्तश्च धर्म्यं तेषु समाचरन् कृपालुषु परिक्लेशान्पाण्डवानां प्रकीर्तयन्

You are united with dharma and you will act in accordance with dharma. To those who are compassionate, recount the hardships confronted by the Pāṇḍava-s.

आप धर्म से जुड़े हुए हैं और धर्म के अनुसार कार्य करेंगे। जो लोग दयालु हैं, वे पांडवों द्वारा झेले गए कष्टों का वर्णन करें।

वृद्धेषु कुलधर्मं च ब्रुवन्पूर्वैरनुष्ठितम् विभेत्स्यति मनांस्येषामिति मे नात्र संशयः

To the elders, speak about the dharma that has been observed in the lineage earlier. I have no doubt that you will be able to estrange their minds.

बड़ों से उस धर्म के बारे में बात करें जो पहले वंश में मनाया गया हो। मुझे इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि आप उनके मन को विचलित करने में सक्षम होंगे।

न च तेभ्यो भयं तेऽस्ति ब्राह्मणो ह्यसि वेदवित् दूतकर्मणि युक्तश्च स्थविरश्च विशेषतः

You have nothing to fear from them. You are a brāhmaṇa who has knowledge of the Veda-s. You are being sent on a task as a messenger. And specifically, you are old.

तुम्हें उनसे डरने की कोई जरूरत नहीं है. आप वेदों का ज्ञान रखने वाले ब्राह्मण हैं। आपको दूत बनाकर किसी कार्य पर भेजा जा रहा है। और विशेष रूप से, आप बूढ़े हैं।

स भवान्पुष्ययोगेन मुहूर्तेन जयेन च कौरवेयान्प्रयात्वाशु कौन्तेयस्यार्थसिद्धये

To bring success to the objective of the Kaunteya-s, leave swiftly for the Kauravya-s, when there is a conjunction of Puṣya and at the muhūrta of Jayā."

कौन्तेय-स के उद्देश्य में सफलता लाने के लिए, जब पुष्य का संयोग हो और जया के मुहूर्त पर, कौरव-एस के लिए तेजी से प्रस्थान करें।"

वैशंपायन उवाच तथानुशिष्टः प्रययौ द्रुपदेन महात्मना पुरोधा वृत्तसंपन्नो नगरं नागसाह्वयम्

Vaiśampāyana said: Having been instructed in this way by the great-souled Drupada, the priest, whose conduct was excellent, departed for the city of Nagasahrya.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: महात्मा द्रुपद द्वारा इस प्रकार निर्देश पाकर, पुजारी, जिसका आचरण उत्कृष्ट था, नागसहर्य शहर के लिए प्रस्थान किया।
