धृतराष्ट्र उवाच हतेषु सर्वसैन्येषु पाण्डुपुत्रै रणाजिरे मम सैन्यावशिष्टास्ते किमकुर्वत संजय

Dhritarasthra asked: O Sañjaya! When all the soldiers had been killed by the sons of Pāṇḍu in the field of battle, what did my remaining soldiers do?

धृतराष्ट्र ने पूछा: हे संजय! जब युद्ध क्षेत्र में पाण्डु के पुत्रों ने सभी सैनिकों को मार डाला तो मेरे बचे हुए सैनिकों ने क्या किया?

कृतवर्मा कृपश्चैव द्रोणपुत्रश्च वीर्यवान् दुर्योधनश्च मन्दात्मा राजा किमकरोत्तदा

What about Kritavarma, Kṛpa and Droṇa's valiant son? What did evil-souled King Duryodhana do then?"

कृतवर्मा, कृप और द्रोण के बहादुर पुत्र के बारे में क्या? तब दुष्टात्मा राजा दुर्योधन ने क्या किया?”

संजय उवाच संप्राद्रवत्सु दारेषु क्षत्रियाणां महात्मनाम् विद्रुते शिबिरे शून्ये भृशोद्विग्नास्त्रयो रथाः

Sañjaya replied: When the wives of those great-souled kṣatriya-s had fled and the camp was empty, those three rāṭha-s were extremely anxious.

संजय ने उत्तर दिया: जब उन महान आत्मा वाले क्षत्रियों की पत्नियाँ भाग गईं और शिविर खाली हो गया, तो वे तीन रथ अत्यंत चिंतित थे।

निशम्य पाण्डुपुत्राणां तदा विजयिनां स्वनम् विद्रुतं शिबिरं दृष्ट्वा सायाह्ने राजगृद्धिनः स्थानं नारोचयंस्तत्र ततस्ते ह्रदमभ्ययुः

They heard the sounds made by the victorious Pāṇḍava-s. In the evening, they saw that the camp was empty. They no longer wished to stay there and wishing to save the king, went towards the lake.

उन्होंने विजयी पांडवों की आवाजें सुनीं। शाम को उन्होंने देखा कि डेरा खाली है। वे अब वहां रुकना नहीं चाहते थे और राजा को बचाने की इच्छा से झील की ओर चले गए।

युधिष्ठिरोऽपि धर्मात्मा भ्रातृभिः सहितो रणे हृष्टः पर्यपतद्राजन्दुर्योधनवधेप्सया

O king! Yudhiṣṭhira, with dharma in his soul, and his brothers were delighted in the battle. They roamed around, wishing to kill Duryodhana.

हे राजा! धर्म को धारण किये हुए युधिष्ठिर और उनके भाई युद्ध में प्रसन्न थे। वे दुर्योधन को मार डालने की इच्छा से इधर-उधर घूमते थे।

मार्गमाणास्तु संक्रुद्धास्तव पुत्रं जयैषिणः यत्नतोऽन्वेषमाणास्तु नैवापश्यञ्जनाधिपम्

Desiring victory, they angrily sought to follow him. But though they endeavoured to search for him, they could not see that king of men.

जीत की इच्छा रखते हुए, उन्होंने गुस्से में उसका पीछा करना चाहा। परन्तु यद्यपि उन्होंने उसे ढूँढ़ने का प्रयत्न किया, परन्तु वे मनुष्यों के राजा को नहीं देख सके।

स हि तीव्रेण वेगेन गदापाणिरपाक्रमत् तं ह्रदं प्राविशच्चापि विष्टभ्यापः स्वमायया

With the club in his hand, he had run away with great speed and with his māyā, had entered the lake and had made the waters solid.

वह हाथ में गदा लेकर बड़े वेग से भागा था और अपनी माया से झील में प्रवेश कर गया था और पानी को ठोस बना दिया था।

यदा तु पाण्डवाः सर्वे सुपरिश्रान्तवाहनाः ततः स्वशिबिरं प्राप्य व्यतिष्ठन्सहसैनिकाः

The mounts of all the Pāṇḍava-s became extremely tired. They returned to their camp and with their soldiers, rested there.

समस्त पाण्डवों की घुड़सवारियाँ अत्यधिक थक गयीं। वे अपने शिविर में लौट आए और अपने सैनिकों के साथ वहीं विश्राम किया।

ततः कृपश्च द्रौणिश्च कृतवर्मा च सात्वतः संनिविष्टेषु पार्थेषु प्रयातास्तं ह्रदं शनैः

After the Pārtha-s had left, Kṛpa, Droṇa's son and Sātvata Kritavarma slowly went to the lake.

पार्थ-स के जाने के बाद, कृप, द्रोण के पुत्र और सात्वत कृतवर्मा धीरे-धीरे झील पर गए।

ते तं ह्रदं समासाद्य यत्र शेते जनाधिपः अभ्यभाषन्त दुर्धर्षं राजानं सुप्तमम्भसि

They approached the lake where the lord of men was lying down. They addressed the invincible king who was sleeping in the waters.

वे उस झील के पास पहुँचे जहाँ मनुष्यों का प्रभु लेटा हुआ था। उन्होंने अजेय राजा को संबोधित किया जो पानी में सो रहा था।

राजन्नुत्तिष्ठ युध्यस्व सहास्माभिर्युधिष्ठिरम् जित्वा वा पृथिवीं भुङ्क्ष्व हतो वा स्वर्गमाप्नुहि

"O king! Arise! With us, fight against Yudhiṣṭhira. Triumph and enjoy the earth, or be slain and enjoy heaven.

"हे राजा! उठो! हमारे साथ, युधिष्ठिर के खिलाफ लड़ो। जीतो और पृथ्वी का आनंद लो, या मारे जाओ और स्वर्ग का आनंद लो।

तेषामपि बलं सर्वं हतं दुर्योधन त्वया प्रतिरब्धाश्च भूयिष्ठं ये शिष्टास्तत्र सैनिकाः

O Duryodhana! All their soldiers have also been slain by you. O lord of the earth! The remaining soldiers are not numerous, but they are angry.

हे दुर्योधन! उनके सभी सैनिक भी आपके द्वारा मारे गये हैं। हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! बाकी सैनिक संख्या में तो नहीं हैं, लेकिन गुस्से में हैं.

न ते वेगं विषहितुं शक्तास्तव विशां पते अस्माभिरभिगुप्तस्य तस्मादुत्तिष्ठ भारत

The soldiers who are left will also not be able to withstand your impetuosity. You will also be protected by us. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Therefore, arise.

जो सैनिक बचे हैं वे भी आपके वेग का सामना नहीं कर सकेंगे। हमारी ओर से आपकी भी सुरक्षा होगी. हे भरत वंश के वंशज! अत: उठो.

दुर्योधन उवाच दिष्ट्या पश्यामि वो मुक्तानीदृशात्पुरुषक्षयात् पाण्डुकौरवसंमर्दाज्जीवमानान्नरर्षभान्

Duryodhana replied, "It is through good fortune that I see that you have escaped with your lives. O bulls among men! This clash between the Pāṇḍu-s and the Kaurava-s has been destructive for men.

दुर्योधन ने उत्तर दिया, "यह सौभाग्य है कि मैं देख रहा हूं कि आप अपनी जान बचाकर बच गए हैं। हे नरश्रेष्ठ! पांडु-और कौरवों के बीच यह संघर्ष मनुष्यों के लिए विनाशकारी रहा है।"

विजेष्यामो वयं सर्वे विश्रान्ता विगतक्लमाः भवन्तश्च परिश्रान्ता वयं च भृशविक्षताः उदीर्णं च बलं तेषां तेन युद्धं न रोचये

We will defeat all of them, but after we have got rid of our tiredness and our exhaustion. You are also exhausted and we are severely wounded. Their army is prospering. Therefore, I do not think we should fight now.

हम उन सभी को हरा देंगे, लेकिन जब हम अपनी थकावट और थकावट से छुटकारा पा लेंगे। तुम भी थक गये हो और हम भी बुरी तरह घायल हो गये हैं। उनकी सेना समृद्ध हो रही है. इसलिए मुझे नहीं लगता कि हमें अब लड़ना चाहिए.'

न त्वेतदद्भुतं वीरा यद्वो महदिदं मनः अस्मासु च परा भक्तिर्न तु कालः पराक्रमे

O brave ones! Since your hearts are large, the words that you have spoken are not surprising. You are also supremely devoted to us. However, this is not the time for valour.

हे वीरों! चूँकि आपका हृदय विशाल है, इसलिए आपने जो शब्द कहे हैं वे आश्चर्यजनक नहीं हैं। आप भी हमारे प्रति परम समर्पित हैं। हालाँकि, यह समय वीरता का नहीं है।

विश्रम्यैकां निशामद्य भवद्भिः सहितो रणे प्रतियोत्स्याम्यहं शत्रूञ्श्वो न मेऽस्त्यत्र संशयः

I will rest for one night. Then, in the battle tomorrow, I will fight with you against the enemy. There can be no doubt about that.

मैं एक रात आराम करूंगा. फिर कल के युद्ध में मैं तुम्हारे साथ शत्रु से युद्ध करूंगा। इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं हो सकता.

संजय उवाच एवमुक्तोऽब्रवीद्द्रौणी राजानं युद्धदुर्मदम् उत्तिष्ठ राजन्भद्रं ते विजेष्यामो रणे परान्

Sañjaya said: Having been thus addressed, Droṇa's son spoke to the king, who was unassailable in battle.

संजय ने कहा: इस प्रकार संबोधित होने पर, द्रोण के पुत्र ने राजा से बात की, जो युद्ध में अजेय था।

इष्टापूर्तेन दानेन सत्येन च जपेन च शपे राजन्यथा ह्यद्य निहनिष्यामि सोमकान्

"O king! O fortunate one! Arise. We will defeat the enemy in the battle. O king! I swear on my religious rites, my donations, my truthfulness and my meditation that I will slay the Somaka-s today.

"हे राजा! हे भाग्यशाली! उठो। हम युद्ध में शत्रु को हरा देंगे। हे राजा! मैं अपने धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों, अपने दान, अपनी सत्यता और अपने ध्यान की शपथ लेता हूं कि मैं आज सोमकों को मार डालूंगा।

मा स्म यज्ञकृतां प्रीतिं प्राप्नुयां सज्जनोचिताम् यदीमां रजनीं व्युष्टां न निहन्मि परान्रणे

Virtuous people obtain delight from performing sacrifices. If I do not slay the enemy in the battle before the night is over, let me not obtain that delight.

पुण्यात्मा लोग यज्ञ करने से प्रसन्न होते हैं। यदि मैं रात होने से पहले युद्ध में शत्रु को नहीं मारता, तो मुझे वह आनंद प्राप्त नहीं होगा।

नाहत्वा सर्वपाञ्चालान्विमोक्ष्ये कवचं विभो इति सत्यं ब्रवीम्येतत्तन्मे शृणु जनाधिप

O lord! Without slaying all the Pāñcāla-s, I will not take off my armour. I am telling you this truthfully. O lord of men! Listen to me."

हे भगवान! समस्त पंचालों को मारे बिना मैं अपना कवच नहीं उतारूंगा। यह बात मैं तुमसे सच-सच कह रहा हूं. हे मनुष्यों के स्वामी! मेरी बात सुनो।"

तेषु संभाषमाणेषु व्याधास्तं देशमाययुः मांसभारपरिश्रान्ताः पानीयार्थं यदृच्छया

While they were conversing in this way, some hunters came to the spot. They were exhausted from carrying their burden of meat and wished to drink some water.

जब वे इसी प्रकार बातचीत कर रहे थे, तभी कुछ शिकारी वहाँ आ गये। वे अपने मांस का बोझ उठाने से थक गए थे और थोड़ा पानी पीना चाहते थे।

ते हि नित्यं महाराज भीमसेनस्य लुब्धकाः मांसभारानुपाजह्रुर्भक्त्या परमया विभो

O great king! O lord! Every day, with supreme devotion, those hunters used to carry a load of meat to Bhīmasena.

हे महान राजा! हे भगवान! वे शिकारी प्रतिदिन परम भक्ति के साथ मांस का बोझ भीमसेन के लिए ले जाते थे।

ते तत्र विष्ठितास्तेषां सर्वं तद्वचनं रहः दुर्योधनवचश्चैव शुश्रुवुः संगता मिथः

While they were concealed there, they heard all the words that were exchanged between them and Duryodhana.

जब वे वहां छुपे हुए थे, तो उन्होंने वे सभी बातें सुनीं जो उनके और दुर्योधन के बीच हुई थीं।

तेऽपि सर्वे महेष्वासा अयुद्धार्थिनि कौरवे निर्बन्धं परमं चक्रुस्तदा वै युद्धकाङ्क्षिणः

On finding that Kaurava was unwilling to fight, those great archers, who wished to fight, made great efforts to persuade him.

यह जानकर कि कौरव युद्ध के लिए तैयार नहीं हैं, उन महान धनुर्धरों ने, जो युद्ध करना चाहते थे, उन्हें समझाने का बहुत प्रयास किया।

तांस्तथा समुदीक्ष्याथ कौरवाणां महारथान् अयुद्धमनसं चैव राजानं स्थितमम्भसि

They saw the Kaurava mahāratha-s there. Situated in the water, the king was unwilling to fight.

उन्होंने वहां कौरव महारथियों को देखा। पानी में स्थित राजा युद्ध करने को तैयार नहीं था।

तेषां श्रुत्वा च संवादं राज्ञश्च सलिले सतः व्याधाभ्यजानन्राजेन्द्र सलिलस्थं सुयोधनम्

O Indra among kings! On hearing the conversation between them and the king, who was in the waters, the concealed hunters realized that it was Suyodhana who was inside the water.

हे राजाओं में इन्द्र! उनके और पानी में मौजूद राजा के बीच की बातचीत सुनकर छुपे हुए शिकारियों को एहसास हुआ कि यह सुयोधन ही है जो पानी के अंदर है।

ते पूर्वं पाण्डुपुत्रेण पृष्टा ह्यासन्सुतं तव यदृच्छोपगतास्तत्र राजानं परिमार्गिताः

Some time earlier, while searching for the king, Pāṇḍu's son had arrived there and had asked them about your son.

कुछ समय पहले राजा को खोजते हुए पाण्डु का पुत्र वहां पहुंचा था और उसने उनसे आपके पुत्र के बारे में पूछा था।

ततस्ते पाण्डुपुत्रस्य स्मृत्वा तद्भाषितं तदा अन्योन्यमब्रुवन्राजन्मृगव्याधाः शनैरिदम्

O king! On remembering the words of Pāṇḍu's son, those hunters of deer softly spoke to each other.

हे राजा! पाण्डुपुत्र के वचनों का स्मरण करके वे मृगशिकारी आपस में धीरे-धीरे बोले।

दुर्योधनं ख्यापयामो धनं दास्यति पाण्डवः सुव्यक्तमिति नः ख्यातो ह्रदे दुर्योधनो नृपः

"If we tell Pāṇḍava about Duryodhana, he will give us riches. It is evident that King Duryodhana is inside this lake.

"अगर हम पांडव को दुर्योधन के बारे में बताएंगे, तो वह हमें धन देंगे। यह स्पष्ट है कि राजा दुर्योधन इस झील के अंदर हैं।

तस्माद्गच्छामहे सर्वे यत्र राजा युधिष्ठिरः आख्यातुं सलिले सुप्तं दुर्योधनममर्षणम्

Therefore, let all of us go to the spot where King Yudhiṣṭhira is. We will tell him that the intolerant Duryodhana is sleeping in the waters.

अत: आओ हम सब लोग उस स्थान पर चलें जहां राजा युधिष्ठिर हैं। हम उनसे कहेंगे कि असहिष्णु दुर्योधन जल में सो रहा है।

धृतराष्ट्रात्मजं तस्मै भीमसेनाय धीमते शयानं सलिले सर्वे कथयामो धनुर्भृते

Let us tell the intelligent Bhīmasena, the wielder of the bow, everything about Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son sleeping in the waters.

आइए हम बुद्धिमान धनुषधारी भीमसेन को जल में सो रहे धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्र के बारे में सब कुछ बताएं।

स नो दास्यति सुप्रीतो धनानि बहुलान्युत किं नो मांसेन शुष्केण परिक्लिष्टेन शोषिणा

He will be extremely pleased with us and will give us a lot of riches. Why should we exhaust ourselves with this dried out meat?"

वह हम पर अत्यंत प्रसन्न होंगे और हमें बहुत सारा धन देंगे। हमें इस सूखे मांस से खुद को क्यों थकाना चाहिए?"

एवमुक्त्वा ततो व्याधाः संप्रहृष्टा धनार्थिनः मांसभारानुपादाय प्रययुः शिबिरं प्रति

Having said this, the hunters were delighted. Desiring wealth, they abandoned that burden of meat and headed towards the camp.

इतना कहकर शिकारी प्रसन्न हो गये। धन की इच्छा से उन्होंने मांस का वह बोझ त्याग दिया और डेरे की ओर चल दिये।

पाण्डवाश्च महाराज लब्धलक्षाः प्रहारिणः अपश्यमानाः समरे दुर्योधनमवस्थितम्

O great king! The Pāṇḍava-s, strikers, had accomplished their objectives. But they did not see Duryodhana in the battle.

हे महान राजा! आक्रमणकारी पांडवों ने अपना उद्देश्य पूरा कर लिया था। परंतु उन्होंने युद्ध में दुर्योधन को नहीं देखा।

निकृतेस्तस्य पापस्य ते पारं गमनेप्सवः चारान्संप्रेषयामासुः समन्तात्तद्रणाजिरम्

Desiring to ascertain the final destination of that wicked and deceitful one, they had dispatched spies in every direction of the field of the battle.

उस दुष्ट और धोखेबाज के अंतिम गंतव्य का पता लगाने की इच्छा से, उन्होंने युद्ध के मैदान की हर दिशा में जासूस भेज दिए थे।

आगम्य तु ततः सर्वे नष्टं दुर्योधनं नृपम् न्यवेदयन्त सहिता धर्मराजस्य सैनिकाः

But all those soldiers had returned and told Dharmarāja that King Duryodhana could not be found.

लेकिन वे सभी सैनिक वापस आ गए और धर्मराज को बताया कि राजा दुर्योधन नहीं मिल सका।

तेषां तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा चाराणां भरतर्षभ चिन्तामभ्यगमत्तीव्रां निशश्वास च पार्थिवः

O bull among the Bhārata lineage! On hearing the words of the messengers, the king was anxious and breathed heavily.

हे भरत वंश में बैल! दूतों की बातें सुनकर राजा चिंतित हो गया और जोर-जोर से साँस लेने लगा।

अथ स्थितानां पाण्डूनां दीनानां भरतर्षभ तस्माद्देशादपक्रम्य त्वरिता लुब्धका विभो

O bull among the Bhārata lineage! The Pāṇḍu-s were thus distressed. O lord! At that time, the hunters swiftly arrived.

हे भरत वंश में बैल! पाण्डु इस प्रकार व्यथित थे। हे भगवान! उसी समय शिकारी तेजी से आ गये।

आजग्मुः शिबिरं हृष्टा दृष्ट्वा दुर्योधनं नृपम् वार्यमाणाः प्रविष्टाश्च भीमसेनस्य पश्यतः

Delighted, they reached the camp, having seen King Duryodhana. Though they were restrained, while Bhīmasena looked on, they entered.

वे राजा दुर्योधन को देखकर प्रसन्न होकर शिविर में पहुँचे। हालाँकि उन्हें रोक दिया गया था, भीमसेन देखते-देखते वे अंदर घुस गए।

ते तु पाण्डवमासाद्य भीमसेनं महाबलम् तस्मै तत्सर्वमाचख्युर्यद्वृत्तं यच्च वै श्रुतम्

They approached the immensely strong Pāṇḍava Bhīmasena and told him everything that they had seen and heard.

वे अत्यंत बलशाली पांडव भीमसेन के पास पहुंचे और उन्हें वह सब कुछ बताया जो उन्होंने देखा और सुना था।

ततो वृकोदरो राजन्दत्त्वा तेषां धनं बहु धर्मराजाय तत्सर्वमाचचक्षे परंतपः

O king! At this, Vṛkodara gave them a lot of riches. The scorcher of enemies went and told Dharmarāja everything.

हे राजा! इस पर वृकोदर ने उन्हें बहुत सारा धन दिया। शत्रुओं को झुलसाने वाले ने जाकर धर्मराज को सब हाल बता दिया।

असौ दुर्योधनो राजन्विज्ञातो मम लुब्धकैः संस्तभ्य सलिलं शेते यस्यार्थे परितप्यसे

"O king! Duryodhana has been discovered by my hunters. You have been tormented because of him. He is sleeping in the waters and has turned them into stone."

"हे राजन! दुर्योधन को मेरे शिकारियों ने ढूंढ लिया है। उसके कारण आप बहुत पीड़ित हुए हैं। वह जल में सो रहा है और उसने जल को पत्थर में बदल दिया है।"

तद्वचो भीमसेनस्य प्रियं श्रुत्वा विशां पते अजातशत्रुः कौन्तेयो हृष्टोऽभूत्सह सोदरैः

O lord of the earth! On hearing Bhīmasena's pleasant words, Kaunteya Ajatashatrua, together with his brothers, was delighted.

हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! भीमसेन के मधुर वचन सुनकर कौन्तेय अजातशत्रु अपने भाइयों सहित प्रसन्न हुआ।

तं च श्रुत्वा महेष्वासं प्रविष्टं सलिलह्रदम् क्षिप्रमेव ततोऽगच्छत्पुरस्कृत्य जनार्दनम्

On hearing that the great archer had entered the waters of a lake, with Janārdana at the forefront, he swiftly went there.

यह सुनकर कि महान धनुर्धर जनार्दन को सबसे आगे लेकर एक झील के पानी में प्रवेश कर गया है, वह तेजी से वहाँ गया।

ततः किलकिलाशब्दः प्रादुरासीद्विशां पते पाण्डवानां प्रहृष्टानां पाञ्चालानां च सर्वशः

O lord of the earth! Loud sounds of joy arose among all the Pāṇḍava-s and the Pāñcāla-s.

हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! सभी पांडवों और पंचालों के बीच खुशी की तेज आवाजें उठीं।

सिंहनादांस्ततश्चक्रुः क्ष्वेडांश्च भरतर्षभ त्वरिताः क्षत्रिया राजञ्जग्मुर्द्वैपायनं ह्रदम्

O bull among the Bhārata lineage! They roared loudly, like lions. O king! All the kṣatriya-s swiftly rushed towards Lake Dvaipāyana.

हे भरत वंश में बैल! वे सिंह के समान जोर से दहाड़ने लगे। हे राजा! सभी क्षत्रिय तेजी से द्वैपायन झील की ओर दौड़ पड़े।

ज्ञातः पापो धार्तराष्ट्रो दृष्टश्चेत्यसकृद्रणे प्राक्रोशन्सोमकास्तत्र हृष्टरूपाः समन्ततः

In every direction, the cheerful Somaka-s roared, "Dhṛtarāṣṭra's wicked son withdrew from the battle and has been found out."

हर दिशा में हर्षित सोमक ने गर्जना की, "धृतराष्ट्र का दुष्ट पुत्र युद्ध से हट गया और उसका पता लगा लिया गया है।"

तेषामाशु प्रयातानां रथानां तत्र वेगिनाम् बभूव तुमुलः शब्दो दिवस्पृक्पृथिवीपते

O lord of the earth! Speedily and swiftly, the chariots proceeded there and the tumultuous sound that they made reached heaven.

हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! रथ तेजी से और तेज़ी से वहाँ आगे बढ़े और उनके द्वारा की गई कोलाहलपूर्ण ध्वनि स्वर्ग तक पहुँच गई।

दुर्योधनं परीप्सन्तस्तत्र तत्र युधिष्ठिरम् अन्वयुस्त्वरितास्ते वै राजानं श्रान्तवाहनाः

Yudhiṣṭhira wished to seek out Duryodhana and wherever he went, the kings spiritedly followed him, although their mounts were exhausted.

युधिष्ठिर दुर्योधन का पता लगाना चाहते थे और वह जहां भी जाता, राजा उत्साहपूर्वक उसका अनुसरण करते थे, हालांकि उनकी सेनाएं थक चुकी थीं।

अर्जुनो भीमसेनश्च माद्रीपुत्रौ च पाण्डवौ धृष्टद्युम्नश्च पाञ्चाल्यः शिखण्डी चापराजितः

There were Arjuna, Bhīmasena, the two Pāṇḍava-s who were Mādrī's sons, Pāñcāla Dhṛṣṭadyumna, the unvanquished Śikhaṇḍī,

वहां अर्जुन, भीमसेन, दो पांडव थे जो माद्री के पुत्र थे, पंचाल धृष्टद्युम्न, अजेय शिखंडी,

उत्तमौजा युधामन्युः सात्यकिश्चापराजितः पाञ्चालानां च ये शिष्टा द्रौपदेयाश्च भारत हयाश्च सर्वे नागाश्च शतशश्च पदातयः

Uttamouja, Yudhāmanyu, the unvanquished Sātyaki, the remaining Pāñcāla-s and Draupadī's sons. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! There were all the horses and elephants and hundreds of foot soldiers.

उत्तमौजा, युधामन्यु, अजेय सात्यकि, शेष पंचाल और द्रौपदी के पुत्र। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! वहाँ सभी घोड़े, हाथी और सैकड़ों पैदल सैनिक थे।

ततः प्राप्तो महाराज धर्मपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः द्वैपायनह्रदं ख्यातं यत्र दुर्योधनोऽभवत्

O great king! All of them went with Dharma's son. Yudhiṣṭhira reached the lake known as Dvaipāyana, where Duryodhana was.

हे महान राजा! वे सभी धर्म के पुत्र के साथ गये। युधिष्ठिर द्वैपायन नामक झील पर पहुँचे, जहाँ दुर्योधन था।

शीतामलजलं हृद्यं द्वितीयमिव सागरम् मायया सलिलं स्तभ्य यत्राभूत्ते सुतः स्थितः

The waters were clear, cool and pleasant to the heart and it was as large as the ocean. Through his māyā, your son had solidified the waters and was inside them.

पानी साफ़, ठंडा और दिल को अच्छा लगने वाला था और वह समुद्र जितना बड़ा था। आपके पुत्र ने अपनी माया से जल को ठोस बना लिया था और वह उसके भीतर था।

अत्यद्भुतेन विधिना दैवयोगेन भारत सलिलान्तर्गतः शेते दुर्दर्शः कस्यचित्प्रभो मानुषस्य मनुष्येन्द्र गदाहस्तो जनाधिपः

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! This was a wonderful act and could only be performed with divine powers. The lord of men was lying down inside the waters and was extremely difficult to see. O Indra among men! The lord of men still held the club in his hand.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! यह एक अद्भुत कार्य था और इसे केवल दैवीय शक्तियों से ही किया जा सकता था। मनुष्यों का स्वामी पानी के अंदर लेटा हुआ था और उसे देखना अत्यंत कठिन था। हे मनुष्यों में इंद्र! मनुष्यों के स्वामी ने अभी भी गदा अपने हाथ में पकड़ रखी थी।

ततो दुर्योधनो राजा सलितान्तर्गतो वसन् शुश्रुवे तुमुलं शब्दं जलदोपमनिःस्वनम्

King Duryodhana was residing inside the water and heard a tumultuous sound, like the roar of a cloud.

राजा दुर्योधन जल के भीतर निवास कर रहा था और उसने बादल की गर्जना के समान भयंकर ध्वनि सुनी।

युधिष्ठिरस्तु राजेन्द्र ह्रदं तं सह सोदरैः आजगाम महाराज तव पुत्रवधाय वै

O Indra among kings! O great king! It was made by Yudhiṣṭhira and his brothers, when they arrived to kill Duryodhana.

हे राजाओं में इन्द्र! हे महान राजा! इसे युधिष्ठिर और उनके भाइयों ने बनाया था, जब वे दुर्योधन को मारने आये थे।

महता शङ्खनादेन रथनेमिस्वनेन च उद्धुन्वंश्च महारेणुं कम्पयंश्चापि मेदिनीम्

There was the great roar of conch shells and the wheels of chariots. A great cloud of dust arose and the earth trembled.

शंखों और रथों के पहियों की महान गर्जना हो रही थी। धूल का एक बड़ा बादल उठा और पृथ्वी कांप उठी।

यौधिष्ठिरस्य सैन्यस्य श्रुत्वा शब्दं महारथाः कृतवर्मा कृपो द्रौणी राजानमिदमब्रुवन्

O hearing the noise made by Yudhiṣṭhira's soldiers, mahāratha-s Kritavarma, Kṛpa and Droṇa's son rushed towards the king and said,

युधिष्ठिर के सैनिकों का शोर सुनकर कृतवर्मा, कृप तथा द्रोणपुत्र राजा की ओर दौड़े और बोले,

इमे ह्यायान्ति संहृष्टाः पाण्डवा जितकाशिनः अपयास्यामहे तावदनुजानातु नो भवान्

"Desiring victory, the cheerful Pāṇḍava-s are advancing here on their horses. Therefore, you should know that we are withdrawing ourselves from this spot."

"जीत की इच्छा से प्रसन्न पांडव अपने घोड़ों पर सवार होकर यहां आगे बढ़ रहे हैं। इसलिए, आपको जानना चाहिए कि हम खुद को इस स्थान से हटा रहे हैं।"

दुर्योधनस्तु तच्छ्रुत्वा तेषां तत्र यशस्विनाम् तथेत्युक्त्वा ह्रदं तं वै माययास्तम्भयत्प्रभो

On hearing the words of those illustrious ones, the lord agreed, from inside the waters that he had turned solid with his māyā.

उन महापुरुषों की बातें सुनकर, भगवान पानी के अंदर से सहमत हुए कि उन्होंने अपनी माया से ठोस बना दिया है।

ते त्वनुज्ञाप्य राजानं भृशं शोकपरायणाः जग्मुर्दूरं महाराज कृपप्रभृतयो रथाः

O great king! Having obtained the king's permission, Kṛpa and the other rāṭha-s, severely oppressed by grief, went some distance away.

हे महान राजा! राजा की अनुमति पाकर कृप तथा अन्य रथवासी दुःख से अत्यंत पीड़ित होकर कुछ दूर चले गये।

ते गत्वा दूरमध्वानं न्यग्रोधं प्रेक्ष्य मारिष न्यविशन्त भृशं श्रान्ताश्चिन्तयन्तो नृपं प्रति

O venerable one! Having travelled some distance, they saw a banyan tree. They were extremely tired and rested under it, thinking about the king.

हे आदरणीय! कुछ दूर चलने पर उन्हें एक बरगद का पेड़ दिखाई दिया। वे बेहद थके हुए थे और राजा के बारे में सोचते हुए उसके नीचे आराम कर रहे थे।

विष्टभ्य सलिलं सुप्तो धार्तराष्ट्रो महाबलः पाण्डवाश्चापि संप्राप्तास्तं देशं युद्धमीप्सवः

"Dhṛtarāṣṭra's immensely strong son is sleeping inside the waters, having solidified them. Desiring to fight, the Pāṇḍava-s will reach that spot.

"धृतराष्ट्र का अत्यंत बलशाली पुत्र जल के अंदर सो रहा है, जिसने उन्हें ठोस बना दिया है। लड़ने की इच्छा रखते हुए, पांडव-उस स्थान पर पहुंच जाएंगे।

कथं नु युद्धं भविता कथं राजा भविष्यति कथं नु पाण्डवा राजन्प्रतिपत्स्यन्ति कौरवम्

How will the fight take place? What will happen to the king? How will the Pāṇḍava-s discover the Kaurava king?"

लड़ाई कैसे होगी? राजा का क्या होगा? पांडव कौरव राजा की खोज कैसे करेंगे?"

इत्येवं चिन्तयन्तस्ते रथेभ्योऽश्वान्विमुच्य ह तत्रासां चक्रिरे राजन्कृपप्रभृतयो रथाः

Thinking about these and other things, they unyoked their horses from their chariots. O king! Kṛpa and the other rāṭha-s prepared to rest there.

इन और अन्य बातों के बारे में सोचते हुए, उन्होंने अपने घोड़ों को अपने रथों से खोल दिया। हे राजा! कृप और अन्य रथ वहाँ विश्राम करने के लिए तैयार हुए।
