संजय उवाच तस्मिञ्शब्दे मृदौ जाते पाण्डवैर्निहते बले अश्वैः सप्तशतैः शिष्टैरुपावर्तत सौबलः

Sañjaya said: When the sound became less and the Pāṇḍava-s had slain some of that army, Saubala advanced with seven hundred well-trained horses that still remained.

संजय ने कहा: जब आवाज कम हो गई और पांडवों ने उस सेना के कुछ लोगों को मार डाला, तो सौबल सात सौ अच्छी तरह से प्रशिक्षित घोड़ों के साथ आगे बढ़े जो अभी भी बचे थे।

स यात्वा वाहिनीं तूर्णमब्रवीत्त्वरयन्युधि युध्यध्वमिति संहृष्टाः पुनः पुनररिंदमः अपृच्छत्क्षत्रियांस्तत्र क्व नु राजा महारथः

He swiftly approached the army and said, "O warriors! Make haste. Fight cheerfully." The scorcher of enemies repeatedly said this. He asked the kṣatriya-s there, "Where is the mahāratha king?"

वह तेजी से सेना के पास पहुंचा और बोला, "हे योद्धाओं! जल्दी करो। खुशी से लड़ो।" शत्रुओं को झुलसाने वाला यह बात बार-बार कहता था। उन्होंने वहां क्षत्रियों से पूछा, "महारथ राजा कहाँ हैं?"

शकुनेस्तु वचः श्रुत्वा त ऊचुर्भरतर्षभ असौ तिष्ठति कौरव्यो रणमध्ये महारथः

O bull among the Bhārata lineage! Hearing Śākuni's words, they replied, "The mahāratha Kauravya is stationed in the midst of the battle.

हे भरत वंश में बैल! शकुनि की बातें सुनकर उन्होंने उत्तर दिया, “महारथी कौरव युद्ध के बीच में खड़े हैं।

यत्रैतत्सुमहच्छत्रं पूर्णचन्द्रसमप्रभम् यत्रैते सतलत्राणा रथास्तिष्ठन्ति दंशिताः

He is at the spot where the great umbrella is, as radiant as the full moon. That is where the armoured rāṭha-s are, with their arm-guards.

वह उस स्थान पर है जहां पूर्णिमा के चंद्रमा के समान दीप्तिमान विशाल छत्र है। यहीं पर बख्तरबंद रथ अपने शस्त्र-रक्षकों के साथ हैं।

यत्रैष शब्दस्तुमुलः पर्जन्यनिनदोपमः तत्र गच्छ द्रुतं राजंस्ततो द्रक्ष्यसि कौरवम्

A tumultuous sound can be heard there, like the roar of clouds. O king! Go there swiftly and you will be able to see Kauravya."

वहाँ बादलों की गड़गड़ाहट जैसी कोलाहलपूर्ण ध्वनि सुनी जा सकती है। हे राजा! शीघ्रता से वहाँ जाओ और तुम कौरव को देख सकोगे।"

एवमुक्तस्तु तैः शूरैः शकुनिः सौबलस्तदा प्रययौ तत्र यत्रासौ पुत्रस्तव नराधिप सर्वतः संवृतो वीरैः समरेष्वनिवर्तिभिः

O lord of men! Having been thus addressed by those brave ones, Śākuni Saubala went to the spot where your son was. He was surrounded on all sides by valiant ones who were unwilling to retreat from the battle.

हे मनुष्यों के स्वामी! उन वीरों द्वारा इस प्रकार सम्बोधित किये जाने पर शकुनि सौबल उस स्थान पर गये जहाँ आपका पुत्र था। वह चारों ओर से शूरवीरों से घिरा हुआ था जो युद्ध से पीछे हटने को तैयार नहीं थे।

ततो दुर्योधनं दृष्ट्वा रथानीके व्यवस्थितम् सरथांस्तावकान्सर्वान्हर्षयञ्शकुनिस्ततः

Duryodhana was stationed there, in the midst of an array of chariots. Seeing him, Śākuni gladdened all the rāṭha-s on your side.

दुर्योधन वहाँ रथों की शृंखला के बीच में खड़ा था। उसे देखकर शकुनि ने सभी रथियों को आपकी ओर प्रसन्न कर लिया।

दुर्योधनमिदं वाक्यं हृष्टरूपो विशां पते कृतकार्यमिवात्मानं मन्यमानोऽब्रवीन्नृपम्

O lord of the earth! He cheerfully spoke these words to Duryodhana. He spoke to the king, as if he thought that his objective had already been achieved.

हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! उन्होंने प्रसन्नतापूर्वक दुर्योधन से ये बातें कहीं। उसने राजा से इस प्रकार बात की, मानो उसे लगा हो कि उसका उद्देश्य पहले ही प्राप्त हो चुका है।

जहि राजन्रथानीकमश्वाः सर्वे जिता मया नात्यक्त्वा जीवितं संख्ये शक्यो जेतुं युधिष्ठिरः

"O king! Slay this array of rāṭha-s. All their horses have already been defeated by me. Yudhiṣṭhira is incapable of being defeated in the battle, unless one is prepared to give up one's own life.

"हे राजा! रथ-समूह को मार डालो। उनके सभी घोड़े पहले ही मेरे द्वारा पराजित हो चुके हैं। युधिष्ठिर युद्ध में पराजित होने में असमर्थ हैं, जब तक कि कोई अपना जीवन देने के लिए तैयार न हो।

हते तस्मिन्रथानीके पाण्डवेनाभिपालिते गजानेतान्हनिष्यामः पदातींश्चेतरांस्तथा

Slay this array of rāṭha-s, protected by Pāṇḍava. We will then kill these elephants, foot soldiers and horses."

पाण्डवों द्वारा सुरक्षित इस रथ-समूह को मार डालो। फिर हम इन हाथियों, पैदल सैनिकों और घोड़ों को मार डालेंगे।”

श्रुत्वा तु वचनं तस्य तावका जयगृद्धिनः जवेनाभ्यपतन्हृष्टाः पाण्डवानामनीकिनीम्

On hearing these words, those on your side were cheered. Wishing for victory, they swiftly attacked the Pāṇḍava soldiers.

ये शब्द सुनकर आपके पक्ष के लोग प्रसन्न हो गये। वे विजय की कामना से बड़ी तेजी से पांडव सैनिकों पर टूट पड़े।

सर्वे विवृततूणीराः प्रगृहीतशरासनाः शरासनानि धुन्वानाः सिंहनादं प्रचक्रिरे

They fixed their quivers and grasped their bows. They brandished their bows and roared like lions.

उन्होंने अपने तरकश ठीक किये और धनुष संभाल लिये। उन्होंने अपने धनुष लहराये और सिंहों की भाँति गर्जना की।

ततो ज्यातलनिर्घोषः पुनरासीद्विशां पते प्रादुरासीच्छराणां च सुमुक्तानां सुदारुणः

O lord of the earth! The noise of twang of bowstrings and the slapping of palms was again heard. They shot extremely terrible arrows.

हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! धनुष की प्रत्यंचा की टंकार और हथेलियों के थपथपाने का शोर फिर से सुनाई देने लगा। उन्होंने अत्यन्त भयानक बाण चलाये।

तान्समीपगतान्दृष्ट्वा जवेनोद्यतकार्मुकान् उवाच देवकीपुत्रं कुन्तीपुत्रो धनंजयः

On seeing that they were joyfully and swiftly advancing, with upraised bows, Dhanañjayā, Kuntī's son, spoke these words to Devakī's son.

यह देखकर कि वे प्रसन्नतापूर्वक और तेजी से धनुष उठाए हुए आगे बढ़ रहे थे, कुंती के पुत्र धनंजय ने देवकी के पुत्र से ये शब्द कहे।

चोदयाश्वानसंभ्रान्तः प्रविशैतद्बलार्णवम् अन्तमद्य गमिष्यामि शत्रूणां निशितैः शरैः

"Goad these horses without any fear and penetrate this ocean of soldiers. Using sharp arrows, I will bring an end to these enemies.

"बिना किसी डर के इन घोड़ों को आगे बढ़ाओ और सैनिकों के इस समुद्र में घुस जाओ। तीखे बाणों का प्रयोग करके मैं इन शत्रुओं का अंत कर दूंगा।"

अष्टादश दिनान्यद्य युद्धस्यास्य जनार्दन वर्तमानस्य महतः समासाद्य परस्परम्

O Janārdana! This is the eighteenth day of the battle and we have engaged against each other in this great clash.

हे जनार्दन! यह लड़ाई का अठारहवां दिन है और हम इस महान संघर्ष में एक-दूसरे के खिलाफ उतरे हैं।

अनन्तकल्पा ध्वजिनी भूत्वा ह्येषां महात्मनाम् क्षयमद्य गता युद्धे पश्य दैवं यथाविधम्

The standard-bearers, the great-souled ones, were almost infinite. Behold. They have been destroyed in the battle, by destiny.

मानक-वाहक, महान आत्मा वाले, लगभग अनंत थे। देखो. नियति के कारण वे युद्ध में नष्ट हो गये।

समुद्रकल्पं तु बलं धार्तराष्ट्रस्य माधव अस्मानासाद्य संजातं गोष्पदोपममच्युत

O Mādhava! The army of Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son was like an ocean. O Acyuta! Having clashed against us, it has now become like a trifle.

हे माधव! धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्र की सेना समुद्र के समान थी। हे अच्युत! हमसे टकराकर अब ये बात छोटी सी हो गई है.

हते भीष्मे च संदध्याच्छिवं स्यादिह माधव न च तत्कृतवान्मूढो धार्तराष्ट्रः सुबालिशः

O Mādhava! It would have been well had there been peace after Bhīṣma was killed. But Dhṛtarāṣṭra's stupid and extremely foolish son did not act accordingly.

हे माधव! भीष्म के वध के बाद शांति होती तो अच्छा होता। लेकिन धृतराष्ट्र के मूर्ख और अत्यंत मूर्ख पुत्र ने तदनुसार कार्य नहीं किया।

उक्तं भीष्मेण यद्वाक्यं हितं पथ्यं च माधव तच्चापि नासौ कृतवान्वीतबुद्धिः सुयोधनः

O Mādhava! Bhīṣma spoke beneficial words that were like medicine. However, Suyodhana was beyond reason and did not listen to it.

हे माधव! भीष्म ने औषधि के समान लाभकारी वचन कहे। हालाँकि, सुयोधन तर्क से परे था और उसने उसकी बात नहीं मानी।

तस्मिंस्तु पतिते भीष्मे प्रच्युते पृथिवीतले न जाने कारणं किं नु येन युद्धमवर्तत

After Bhīṣma was dislodged and brought down on the surface of the ground, I do not know the reason why the battle had to continue.

भीष्म को उखाड़कर ज़मीन पर गिरा दिये जाने के बाद, मुझे नहीं पता कि युद्ध क्यों जारी रखना पड़ा।

मूढांस्तु सर्वथा मन्ये धार्तराष्ट्रान्सुबालिशान् पतिते शंतनोः पुत्रे येऽकार्षुः संयुगं पुनः

I think that, in every way, Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son is stupid and extremely foolish. They continued to fight even after Śāntanu's son was brought down.

मैं सोचता हूं कि, हर तरह से, धृतराष्ट्र का पुत्र मूर्ख और अत्यंत मूर्ख है। शांतनु के पुत्र को मार गिराने के बाद भी वे लड़ते रहे।

अनन्तरं च निहते द्रोणे ब्रह्मविदां वरे राधेये च विकर्णे च नैवाशाम्यत वैशसम्

After that, Droṇa, supreme among those who know about the brāhman, was killed, and so were Rādheya and Vikarṇa. But even then, there was no peace.

उसके बाद, ब्राह्मण के बारे में जानने वालों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ द्रोण मारे गए, और इसी तरह राधेय और विकर्ण भी मारे गए। लेकिन फिर भी शांति नहीं मिली.

अल्पावशिष्टे सैन्येऽस्मिन्सूतपुत्रे च पातिते सपुत्रे वै नरव्याघ्रे नैवाशाम्यत वैशसम्

When only a few of the soldiers were left and the son of a sūta, tiger among men, was brought down with his sons, even then, there was no peace.

जब कुछ ही सैनिक बचे थे और सूतपुत्र, मनुष्यों में व्याघ्र, अपने पुत्रों सहित नीचे लाया गया, तब भी शांति नहीं थी।

श्रुतायुषि हते शूरे जलसंधे च पौरवे श्रुतायुधे च नृपतौ नैवाशाम्यत वैशसम्

When the brave Shrutayusha was killed, and Paurava Jalasandha, and King Śrutāyudha, even then, there was no peace.

जब वीर श्रुतयुष मारे गये, और पौरव जलसन्ध तथा राजा श्रुतयुध मारे गये, तब भी शान्ति नहीं हुई।

भूरिश्रवसि शल्ये च शाल्वे चैव जनार्दन आवन्त्येषु च वीरेषु नैवाशाम्यत वैशसम्

O Janārdana! Bhurishrava, Śalya, Śālva and the brave ones from Avanti were killed. Even then, there was no peace.

हे जनार्दन! भूरिश्रवा, शल्य, शाल्व तथा अवंती के वीर मारे गये। फिर भी शांति नहीं मिली.

जयद्रथे च निहते राक्षसे चाप्यलायुधे बाह्लिके सोमदत्ते च नैवाशाम्यत वैशसम्

Jayadratha, the rākṣasa Alāyudha, Bahlika and Somadatta were slain. Even then, there was no peace.

जयद्रथ, राक्षस अलायुध, बाह्लीक और सोमदत्त मारे गए। फिर भी शांति नहीं मिली.

भगदत्ते हते शूरे काम्बोजे च सुदक्षिणे दुःशासने च निहते नैवाशाम्यत वैशसम्

The brave Bhagadatta, Sudakṣiṇa from Kāmboja and Duḥśāsana were killed. Even then, there was no peace.

बहादुर भगदत्त, कम्बोज के सुदक्षिण और दुःशासन मारे गए। फिर भी शांति नहीं मिली.

दृष्ट्वा च निहताञ्शूरान्पृथङ्माण्डलिकान्नृपान् बलिनश्च रणे कृष्ण नैवाशाम्यत वैशसम्

O Kṛṣṇā! There were many brave kings, lords of their separate dominions. Even when those powerful ones were killed in the battle, there was no peace.

हे कृष्ण! वहाँ अनेक वीर राजा, अपने अलग-अलग साम्राज्य के स्वामी थे। जब वे शक्तिशाली लोग युद्ध में मारे गए, तब भी शांति नहीं थी।

अक्षौहिणीपतीन्दृष्ट्वा भीमसेनेन पातितान् मोहाद्वा यदि वा लोभान्नैवाशाम्यत वैशसम्

Even when he saw that an entire akṣauhiṇī was brought down by Bhīmasena, either because of his delusion or because of his avarice, there still was no peace.

यहां तक ​​कि जब उन्होंने देखा कि भीमसेन ने या तो उनके भ्रम के कारण या उनके लोभ के कारण एक संपूर्ण अक्षौहिणी को गिरा दिया था, तब भी उन्हें शांति नहीं मिली।

Other than Kaurava Suyodhana, who else would have been born in a noble lineage and generated this large and pointless enmity?

कौरव सुयोधन के अलावा और कौन होगा जिसने कुलीन वंश में जन्म लिया होगा और जिसने इतनी बड़ी और निरर्थक शत्रुता पैदा की होगी?

गुणतोऽभ्यधिकं ज्ञात्वा बलतः शौर्यतोऽपि वा अमूढः को नु युध्येत जानन्प्राज्ञो हिताहितम्

Knowing that we were superior in qualities, strength and valour, which sensible person would attempt to fight, other than a foolish one unable to differentiate good from evil?

यह जानते हुए कि हम गुणों, बल और वीरता में श्रेष्ठ हैं, अच्छाई और बुराई में अंतर करने में असमर्थ मूर्ख के अलावा कौन समझदार व्यक्ति लड़ने का प्रयास करेगा?

यन्न तस्य मनो ह्यासीत्त्वयोक्तस्य हितं वचः प्रशमे पाण्डवैः सार्धं सोऽन्यस्य शृणुयात्कथम्

He could not make up his mind that he should listen to your beneficial words and make peace with the Pāṇḍava-s. Instead, he listened to the advice of another.

वह यह निश्चय नहीं कर सका कि आपकी हितकारी बातें सुनकर पाण्डवों से संधि कर लूं। इसके बजाय, उसने दूसरे की सलाह सुनी।

येन शांतनवो भीष्मो द्रोणो विदुर एव च प्रत्याख्याताः शमस्यार्थे किं नु तस्याद्य भेषजम्

Śāntanu's son, Bhīṣma, Droṇa and Vidūra spoke in favour of peace, but were disregarded. What medicine will he resort to today?

शांतनु के पुत्र, भीष्म, द्रोण और विदुर ने शांति के पक्ष में बात की, लेकिन उनकी उपेक्षा की गई। आज वह कौन सी दवा का सहारा लेगा?

मौर्ख्याद्येन पिता वृद्धः प्रत्याख्यातो जनार्दन तथा माता हितं वाक्यं भाषमाणा हितैषिणी प्रत्याख्याता ह्यसत्कृत्य स कस्मै रोचयेद्वचः

O Janārdana! Because of his stupidity, he rejected his aged father and mother's beneficial words, when they spoke about what was good for him. How can he accept good advice?

हे जनार्दन! अपनी मूर्खता के कारण, उसने अपने वृद्ध पिता और माता की लाभकारी बातों को अस्वीकार कर दिया, जब वे उसके लिए अच्छी बातें करते थे। वह अच्छी सलाह कैसे मान सकता है?

कुलान्तकरणो व्यक्तं जात एष जनार्दन तथास्य दृश्यते चेष्टा नीतिश्चैव विशां पते नैष दास्यति नो राज्यमिति मे मतिरच्युत

O Janārdana! It is evident that he was born to bring an end to his lineage. O lord of the earth! That is the direction his policy has followed. O Acyuta! It is my view that he will still not give us the kingdom.

हे जनार्दन! यह स्पष्ट है कि उनका जन्म अपने वंश को समाप्त करने के लिए हुआ था। हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! उनकी नीति इसी दिशा का अनुसरण करती रही है। हे अच्युत! मेरा विचार है कि वह अब भी हमें राज्य न देगा।

उक्तोऽहं बहुशस्तात विदुरेण महात्मना न जीवन्दास्यते भागं धार्तराष्ट्रः कथंचन

O father! On several occasions, the great-souled Vidūra has told me that Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son, as long as he is alive, will never give us a share.

हे पिता! कई अवसरों पर, महान आत्मा विदुर ने मुझसे कहा है कि धृतराष्ट्र का पुत्र, जब तक वह जीवित है, हमें कभी हिस्सा नहीं देगा।

यावत्प्राणा धमिष्यन्ति धार्तराष्ट्रस्य मानद तावद्युष्मास्वपापेषु प्रचरिष्यति पातकम्

O venerable one! He also said, "As long as Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son is alive, that wicked one will continue to act in evil ways towards you.

हे आदरणीय! उन्होंने यह भी कहा, "जब तक धृतराष्ट्र का पुत्र जीवित है, वह दुष्ट आपके प्रति बुरे तरीके से कार्य करता रहेगा।

न स युक्तोऽन्यथा जेतुमृते युद्धेन माधव इत्यब्रवीत्सदा मां हि विदुरः सत्यदर्शनः

You will not be able to defeat him, without engaging with him in battle." O Mādhava! Vidūra, who sees the truth, always spoke to me in this way.

उसके साथ युद्ध में उतरे बिना तुम उसे परास्त नहीं कर पाओगे।" हे माधव! सत्य को देखने वाले विदुर हमेशा मुझसे इसी प्रकार बात करते थे।

तत्सर्वमद्य जानामि व्यवसायं दुरात्मनः यदुक्तं वचनं तेन विदुरेण महात्मना

I now see that the evil-souled one's deeds have been exactly in accordance with the words of the great-souled Vidūra.

अब मैं देख रहा हूं कि उस दुष्टात्मा के कर्म बिल्कुल महात्मा विदुर के वचनों के अनुरूप ही थे।

यो हि श्रुत्वा वचः पथ्यं जामदग्न्याद्यथातथम् अवामन्यत दुर्बुद्धिर्ध्रुवं नाशमुखे स्थितः

He also heard the beneficial and appropriate words spoken by Jāmadagni's son. But the evil-minded one disregarded them and set himself along a path of certain destruction.

उन्होंने जमदग्नि के पुत्र के कहे हुए हितकारी एवं उचित वचन भी सुने। लेकिन दुष्ट मन वाले ने उनकी उपेक्षा की और खुद को निश्चित विनाश के रास्ते पर ले गया।

उक्तं हि बहुभिः सिद्धैर्जातमात्रे सुयोधने एनं प्राप्य दुरात्मानं क्षयं क्षत्रं गमिष्यति

As soon as Suyodhana was born, many siddha-s had said that this evil-souled one would bring about the destruction of kṣatriya-s.

जैसे ही सुयोधन का जन्म हुआ, कई सिद्धों ने कहा था कि यह दुष्टात्मा क्षत्रियों का विनाश करेगा।

तदिदं वचनं तेषां निरुक्तं वै जनार्दन क्षयं याता हि राजानो दुर्योधनकृते भृशम्

O Janārdana! Those words have now been realized. Because of Duryodhana's deeds, the kings are headed towards fearful destruction.

हे जनार्दन! वे शब्द अब साकार हो गए हैं। दुर्योधन के कर्मों के कारण राजा भयानक विनाश की ओर अग्रसर हैं।

सोऽद्य सर्वान्रणे योधान्निहनिष्यामि माधव क्षत्रियेषु हतेष्वाशु शून्ये च शिबिरे कृते

O Mādhava! I will kill all the warriors in the battle today. The kṣatriya-s have been speedily killed and their camps emptied.

हे माधव! मैं आज युद्ध में सभी योद्धाओं को मार डालूँगा। क्षत्रियों को तेजी से मार डाला गया और उनके शिविर खाली कर दिए गए।

वधाय चात्मनोऽस्माभिः संयुगं रोचयिष्यति तदन्तं हि भवेद्वैरमनुमानेन माधव

For the sake of his own destruction, Duryodhana will desire to fight with us. O Mādhava! I think that will bring an end to the enmity.

अपने विनाश के लिये दुर्योधन हमसे युद्ध करना चाहेगा। हे माधव! मुझे लगता है कि इससे दुश्मनी ख़त्म हो जाएगी.

एवं पश्यामि वार्ष्णेय चिन्तयन्प्रज्ञया स्वया विदुरस्य च वाक्येन चेष्टया च दुरात्मनः

O Vārṣṇeya! Using my intelligence, on due reflection, I think this will be the end, borne out by Vidūra's words and the evil-souled one's efforts.

हे वार्ष्णेय! अपनी बुद्धि का उपयोग करते हुए, उचित चिंतन करने पर, मुझे लगता है कि विदुर के शब्दों और दुष्टात्मा के प्रयासों से यही अंत होगा।

संयाहि भारतीं वीर यावद्धन्मि शितैः शरैः दुर्योधनं दुरात्मानं वाहिनीं चास्य संयुगे

O brave one! Take me to the Bhārata army, so that I can use my sharp arrows to slay the evil-souled Duryodhana's soldiers in the battle.

हे वीर! मुझे भरत सेना में ले चलो, ताकि मैं युद्ध में दुष्टात्मा दुर्योधन के सैनिकों को अपने तीखे बाणों से मार सकूँ।

क्षेममद्य करिष्यामि धर्मराजस्य माधव हत्वैतद्दुर्बलं सैन्यं धार्तराष्ट्रस्य पश्यतः

O Mādhava! Today, I will accomplish what Dharmarāja wants. While Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son looks on, I will destroy this weakened army."

हे माधव! आज, मैं वही पूरा करूँगा जो धर्मराज चाहते हैं। जब तक धृतराष्ट्र का पुत्र देखता रहेगा, मैं इस कमजोर सेना को नष्ट कर दूंगा।"

संजय उवाच अभीशुहस्तो दाशार्हस्तथोक्तः सव्यसाचिना तद्बलौघममित्राणामभीतः प्राविशद्रणे

Sañjaya said: Thus addressed by Savyasachi, Kṛṣṇā, with the reins in his hand, fearlessly penetrated the large army of the enemy in the battle.

संजय ने कहा: सव्यसाची द्वारा इस प्रकार संबोधित किये जाने पर, कृष्ण अपने हाथ में लगाम लेकर निडर होकर युद्ध में शत्रु की विशाल सेना में घुस गये।

शरासनवरं घोरं शक्तिकण्टकसंवृतम् गदापरिघपन्थानं रथनागमहाद्रुमम्

The spot was terrible with the best of bows and arrows, and the javelins were like thorns. Clubs and maces were the paths and chariots and elephants were the large trees.

उत्तम धनुषों और बाणों से वह स्थान भयानक था और भाले काँटों के समान थे। गदाएँ और गदाएँ पथ थे और रथ और हाथी बड़े वृक्ष थे।

हयपत्तिलताकीर्णं गाहमानो महायशाः व्यचरत्तत्र गोविन्दो रथेनातिपताकिना

ते हयाः पाण्डुरा राजन्वहन्तोऽर्जुनमाहवे दिक्षु सर्वास्वदृश्यन्त दाशार्हेण प्रचोदिताः

O king! Those white horses bore Arjuna in the battle. Controlled by Dāśārha, they were seen in every direction.

हे राजा! उन सफेद घोड़ों ने युद्ध में अर्जुन को झेला। दशार्ह द्वारा नियंत्रित, वे हर दिशा में देखे गए थे।

ततः प्रायाद्रथेनाजौ सव्यसाची परंतपः किरञ्शरशतांस्तीक्ष्णान्वारिधारा इवाम्बुदः

Savyasachi, the scorcher of enemies, advanced on his chariot. He showered down hundreds of sharp arrows, like torrents of rain pouring down on a mountain.

शत्रुओं को भस्म करने वाले सव्यसाची अपने रथ पर आगे बढ़े। उसने सैकड़ों तीखे बाणों की वर्षा की, मानो पर्वत पर मूसलाधार वर्षा हो रही हो।

प्रादुरासीन्महाञ्शब्दः शराणां नतपर्वणाम् इषुभिश्छाद्यमानानां समरे सव्यसाचिना

In the battle, Savyasachi shot and enveloped everything with arrows with drooping tufts, which made a loud noise.

युद्ध में सव्यसाची ने झुकते हुए गुच्छों वाले बाणों से सब कुछ को आच्छादित कर दिया, जिससे तीव्र ध्वनि उत्पन्न हुई।

असज्जन्तस्तनुत्रेषु शरौघाः प्रापतन्भुवि इन्द्राशनिसमस्पर्शा गाण्डीवप्रेषिताः शराः

Torrents of arrows penetrated armour and fell down on the ground. Shot from Gāṇḍīva, those arrows were like Indra's vajra to the touch.

बाणों की धारा कवच को भेदकर भूमि पर गिर पड़ी। गाण्डीव से चलाये गये वे बाण स्पर्श से इन्द्र के वज्र के समान थे।

नरान्नागान्समाहत्य हयांश्चापि विशां पते अपतन्त रणे बाणाः पतंगा इव घोषिणः

O lord of the earth! Men, elephants and horses were struck. The arrows whizzed like insects and brought them down in the battle.

हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! मनुष्य, हाथी और घोड़े मारे गये। बाणों ने कीड़ों की भाँति फुँफकारते हुए उन्हें युद्ध में गिरा दिया।

आसीत्सर्वमवच्छन्नं गाण्डीवप्रेषितैः शरैः न प्राज्ञायन्त समरे दिशो वा प्रदिशोऽपि वा

Everything was covered by arrows shot from Gāṇḍīva. In the encounter, the directions and the sub-directions could not be distinguished.

गांडीव से छोड़े गए बाणों से सब कुछ ढक दिया गया था। मुठभेड़ में दिशा-उपदिशाओं का भेद नहीं हो पा रहा था।

सर्वमासीज्जगत्पूर्णं पार्थनामाङ्कितैः शरैः रुक्मपुङ्खैस्तैलधौतैः कर्मारपरिमार्जितैः

Everything was covered by arrows marked with Pārtha's name. They were gold-tufted, washed in oil and polished by artisans.

सब कुछ पार्थ के नाम अंकित बाणों से ढका हुआ था। वे सोने से जड़े हुए थे, तेल में धोए गए थे और कारीगरों द्वारा पॉलिश किए गए थे।

ते दह्यमानाः पार्थेन पावकेनेव कुञ्जराः समासीदन्त कौरव्या वध्यमानाः शितैः शरैः

They were consumed by Pārtha, like elephants by a fire. The Kaurava-s were afflicted and slaughtered by those sharp arrows.

पार्थ ने उन्हें उसी प्रकार भस्म कर दिया, जैसे आग से हाथी। उन तीखे बाणों से कौरव पीड़ित हो गये और मारे गये।

शरचापधरः पार्थः प्रज्वलन्निव भारत ददाह समरे योधान्कक्षमग्निरिव ज्वलन्

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Wielding the bow and arrows, Pārtha blazed. In the battle, he consumed the warriors, like a flaming fire among dead wood.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! पार्थ धनुष और बाण लेकर प्रज्ज्वलित हो उठा। युद्ध में उसने योद्धाओं को उसी प्रकार भस्म कर दिया, जैसे मृत लकड़ियों के बीच धधकती आग।

यथा वनान्ते वनपैर्विसृष्टः; कक्षं दहेत्कृष्णगतिः सघोषः भूरिद्रुमं शुष्कलतावितानं; भृशं समृद्धो ज्वलनः प्रतापी

He was like a fire with black trails kindled on the outskirts of a forest by the residents of the forest, roaring loudly and consuming dead wood. Many trees and heaps of dry creepers seemed to be burnt by the blazing and powerful one.

वह जंगल के निवासियों द्वारा जंगल के बाहरी इलाके में जलाई गई काली पगडंडियों वाली आग की तरह था, जो जोर-जोर से गर्जना कर रही थी और मृत लकड़ियों को भस्म कर रही थी। बहुत से पेड़ और सूखी लताओं के ढेर उस प्रज्वलित और शक्तिशाली आग से जलते हुए प्रतीत हो रहे थे।

एवं स नाराचगणप्रतापी; शरार्चिरुच्चावचतिग्मतेजाः ददाह सर्वां तव पुत्रसेना;ममृष्यमाणस्तरसा तरस्वी

The innumerable iron arrows of the powerful one were like extremely energetic flames. The spirited one burnt all the soldiers of your son, swiftly and intolerantly.

उस शक्तिशाली के असंख्य लोहे के बाण अत्यंत ऊर्जावान ज्वाला के समान थे। उस उत्साही ने आपके पुत्र के सभी सैनिकों को तेजी से और असहिष्णुता से जला डाला।

तस्येषवः प्राणहराः सुमुक्ता; नासज्जन्वै वर्मसु रुक्मपुङ्खाः न च द्वितीयं प्रमुमोच बाणं; नरे हये वा परमद्विपे वा

His gold-tufted arrows were shot well and could not be countered by armour. They robbed lives. He did not have to shoot a second arrow at a man, a horse, or a supreme elephant.

उनके स्वर्ण-जटित तीर अच्छी तरह से चलाये गये थे और कवच द्वारा उनका मुकाबला नहीं किया जा सका। उन्होंने जीवन लूट लिया. उसे किसी आदमी, घोड़े या सर्वोच्च हाथी पर दूसरा तीर चलाने की ज़रूरत नहीं थी।

अनेकरूपाकृतिभिर्हि बाणै;र्महारथानीकमनुप्रविश्य स एव एकस्तव पुत्रसेनां; जघान दैत्यानिव वज्रपाणिः

The arrows were of many different kinds of forms and penetrated the arrays of the mahāratha-s. He single-handedly killed the soldiers of your son, like the wielder of the vajra against the daitya-s.

वे बाण अनेक प्रकार के थे और महारथियों की व्यूह को भेदने लगे। उसने दैत्यों के विरुद्ध वज्र धारण करने वाले की भाँति अकेले ही आपके पुत्र के सैनिकों को मार डाला।
