संजय उवाच पतितं प्रेक्ष्य यन्तारं शल्यः सर्वायसीं गदाम् आदाय तरसा राजंस्तस्थौ गिरिरिवाचलः

Sañjaya said: O king! Śalya saw that his charioteer had been killed. He quickly picked up a club that was completely made out of iron and stood immobile, like a mountain.

संजय ने कहा: हे राजा! शल्य ने देखा कि उसका सारथी मारा गया। उसने तुरंत एक डंडा उठाया जो पूरी तरह से लोहे का बना था और पहाड़ की तरह स्थिर खड़ा था।

तं दीप्तमिव कालाग्निं पाशहस्तमिवान्तकम् सशृङ्गमिव कैलासं सवज्रमिव वासवम्

He was like the blazing fire of destruction, or like Yāma with a noose in his hand. He was like the summit of Kailāsa, or Vāsava with the vajra.

वह विनाश की धधकती अग्नि के समान अथवा हाथ में पाश लिये हुए यम के समान था। वह कैलाश के शिखर, या वज्र के साथ वासव की तरह था।

सशूलमिव हर्यक्षं वने मत्तमिव द्विपम् जवेनाभ्यपतद्भीमः प्रगृह्य महतीं गदाम्

He was like the tawny-eyed one with a trident, or like a crazy elephant in the forest. Bhīmā grasped a mighty club and swiftly dashed towards him.

वह त्रिशूलधारी भूरी आंखों वाले या जंगल में पागल हाथी जैसा था। भीम ने एक शक्तिशाली गदा पकड़ ली और तेजी से उसकी ओर झपटा।

ततः शङ्खप्रणादश्च तूर्याणां च सहस्रशः सिंहनादश्च संजज्ञे शूराणां हर्षवर्धनः

At that time, thousands of conch shells and trumpets blared. The brave ones roared like lions and this increased one's delight.

उस समय हजारों शंख और तुरही बजने लगीं। वीर सिंहों की भाँति दहाड़ने लगे, इससे उनका हर्ष बढ़ गया।

प्रेक्षन्तः सर्वतस्तौ हि योधा योधमहाद्विपौ तावकाश्च परे चैव साधु साध्वित्यथाब्रुवन्

All the warriors saw them fight against each other, like giant elephants. Those on your side, and on the side of the enemy, uttered words of praise.

सभी योद्धाओं ने उन्हें विशाल हाथियों के समान एक-दूसरे से लड़ते देखा। आपके पक्ष और शत्रु पक्ष के लोगों ने प्रशंसा के शब्द बोले।

न हि मद्राधिपादन्यो रामाद्वा यदुनन्दनात् सोढुमुत्सहते वेगं भीमसेनस्य संयुगे

With the exception of the lord of Madra, Rāma and the descendant of the Yadu lineage, who else was capable of withstanding Bhīmasena's force in an encounter?

मद्र के स्वामी राम और यदु वंश के वंशज के अलावा, और कौन मुठभेड़ में भीमसेन की शक्ति का सामना करने में सक्षम था?

तथा मद्राधिपस्यापि गदावेगं महात्मनः सोढुमुत्सहते नान्यो योधो युधि वृकोदरात्

With the exception of the great-souled lord of Madra and the force of his club, which other warrior was capable of fighting against Vṛkodara?

महामहिम मद्रराज और उनकी गदा के बल को छोड़कर, कौन सा योद्धा वृकोदर के विरुद्ध लड़ने में सक्षम था?

तौ वृषाविव नर्दन्तौ मण्डलानि विचेरतुः आवल्गितौ गदाहस्तौ मद्रराजवृकोदरौ

They roared like bulls and circled each other. With clubs in their hands, the king of Madra and Vṛkodara wheeled around each other.

वे बैल की भाँति दहाड़ते और एक-दूसरे की परिक्रमा करते। हाथों में गदाएँ लेकर मद्रराज और वृकोदर एक-दूसरे के चारों ओर घूमने लगे।

मण्डलावर्तमार्गेषु गदाविहरणेषु च निर्विशेषमभूद्युद्धं तयोः पुरुषसिंहयोः

In the circles that they executed, or in the way they roamed around with the clubs, there was nothing to differentiate those two lions among men in the encounter.

जिन घेरों को उन्होंने अंजाम दिया, या जिस तरह से वे क्लबों के साथ घूमते थे, मुठभेड़ में उन दो शेरों को पुरुषों के बीच अलग करने के लिए कुछ भी नहीं था।

तप्तहेममयैः शुभ्रैर्बभूव भयवर्धनी अग्निज्वालैरिवाविद्धा पट्टैः शल्यस्य सा गदा

Śalya's club was made of gold. It was radiant and sparkling and increased one's terror. It was tied in cloth that looked like a net of fire.

शल्य की गदा सोने की बनी थी। वह दीप्तिमान और चमकदार था और किसी के भी आतंक को बढ़ा देता था। वह कपड़े में बंधा हुआ था जो आग के जाल जैसा लग रहा था।

तथैव चरतो मार्गान्मण्डलेषु महात्मनः विद्युदभ्रप्रतीकाशा भीमस्य शुशुभे गदा

The great-souled Bhīmā roamed around in circles with a radiant club that looked like clouds tinged with lightning.

महाबली भीम बिजली से चमकते हुए बादलों के समान चमकती हुई गदा के साथ वृत्ताकार घूमते थे।

ताडिता मद्रराजेन भीमस्य गदया गदा दीप्यमानेव वै राजन्ससृजे पावकार्चिषः

O king! The king of Madra struck Bhīmā's club with his club and this generated blazing sparks of fire.

हे राजा! मद्रराज ने भीम की गदा पर अपनी गदा से प्रहार किया जिससे आग की तेज चिंगारी उत्पन्न हुई।

तथा भीमेन शल्यस्य ताडिता गदया गदा अङ्गारवर्षं मुमुचे तदद्भुतमिवाभवत्

In that way, Bhīmā struck Śalya's club with his club and this released a shower of flames. It was extraordinary.

इस प्रकार, भीम ने शल्य की गदा पर अपनी गदा से प्रहार किया और इससे आग की बौछार होने लगी। यह असाधारण था.

दन्तैरिव महानागौ शृङ्गैरिव महर्षभौ तोत्त्रैरिव तदान्योन्यं गदाग्राभ्यां निजघ्नतुः

They were like giant elephants with tusks, or gigantic bulls with horns. They struck each other with the tips of their clubs, wishing to kill each other.

वे दाँतों वाले विशाल हाथियों, या सींगों वाले विशाल बैलों के समान थे। वे एक-दूसरे को मार डालने की इच्छा से एक-दूसरे पर गदाओं की नोकों से प्रहार करने लगे।

तौ गदानिहतैर्गात्रैः क्षणेन रुधिरोक्षितौ प्रेक्षणीयतरावास्तां पुष्पिताविव किंशुकौ

Struck by the clubs, in a short while, blood began to flow from their bodies. They were beautiful to behold, like two flowering kiṃśuka-s.

लाठियों की मार से थोड़ी ही देर में उनके शरीर से खून बहने लगा। वे देखने में सुंदर थे, जैसे दो फूलों वाले किशुक-एस।

गदया मद्रराजेन सव्यदक्षिणमाहतः भीमसेनो महाबाहुर्न चचालाचलो यथा

Bhimsena was struck on the right and the left by the king of Madra's club. However, the mighty-armed one was immobile, like a mountain.

मद्रराज की गदा से भीमसेन पर दाहिनी और बायीं ओर से प्रहार किये गये। हालाँकि, वह महाबाहु पर्वत की तरह स्थिर था।

तथा भीमगदावेगैस्ताड्यमानो मुहुर्मुहुः शल्यो न विव्यथे राजन्दन्तिनेवाहतो गिरिः

O king! In that fashion, Śalya was repeatedly struck by the force of Bhīmā's club. But he did not waver, like a mountain struck by a tusker.

हे राजा! इस प्रकार भीम की गदा के बल से शल्य पर बार-बार प्रहार किया गया। परन्तु वह डगमगाया नहीं, जैसे हाथी के मारे हुए पहाड़।

शुश्रुवे दिक्षु सर्वासु तयोः पुरुषसिंहयोः गदानिपातसंह्रादो वज्रयोरिव निस्वनः

The sounds generated by those two lions among men could be heard in all the directions. The clubs descended and struck, with a sound like that of the vajra.

मनुष्यों में उन दो सिंहों द्वारा उत्पन्न ध्वनि सभी दिशाओं में सुनी जा सकती थी। वज्र के समान ध्वनि के साथ गदाएँ नीचे आईं और टकराईं।

निवृत्य तु महावीर्यौ समुच्छ्रितगदावुभौ पुनरन्तरमार्गस्थौ मण्डलानि विचेरतुः

Those two immensely valorous ones stopped for a while and then again attacked with their clubs. They again roamed around, executing circular motions.

वे दोनों परम वीर कुछ देर रुके और फिर अपनी गदाओं से आक्रमण कर दिया। वे फिर से गोलाकार गति करते हुए इधर-उधर घूमने लगे।

अथाभ्येत्य पदान्यष्टौ संनिपातोऽभवत्तयोः उद्यम्य लोहदण्डाभ्यामतिमानुषकर्मणोः

Raising those iron staffs, they advanced eight steps forward and struck each other, performing a superhuman deed.

उन लोहे की छड़ियों को उठाकर, वे आठ कदम आगे बढ़े और एक अलौकिक कार्य करते हुए एक-दूसरे पर प्रहार किया।

प्रार्थयानौ तदान्योऽन्यं मण्डलानि विचेरतुः क्रियाविशेषं कृतिनौ दर्शयामासतुस्तदा

They roamed around, executing circular motions and seeking to strike each other. Those accomplished ones exhibited great deeds.

वे इधर-उधर घूमते रहे, वृत्ताकार गति करते रहे और एक-दूसरे पर वार करने की कोशिश करते रहे। उन सिद्ध पुरुषों ने महान कार्य प्रदर्शित किये।

अथोद्यम्य गदे घोरे सशृङ्गाविव पर्वतौ तावाजघ्नतुरन्योन्यं यथा भूमिचलेऽचलौ

They raised those terrible clubs, which were like the summits of mountains. They struck each other, like mountains at the time of an earthquake.

उन्होंने वे भयानक गदाएँ उठाईं, जो पर्वतों के शिखर के समान थीं। वे एक-दूसरे से ऐसे टकराये, जैसे भूकम्प के समय पहाड़।

तौ परस्परवेगाच्च गदाभ्यां च भृशाहतौ युगपत्पेततुर्वीरावुभाविन्द्रध्वजाविव

They were severely struck from the force of each other's clubs. Both of those brave ones simultaneously fell down, like Indra's standards.

वे एक-दूसरे की लाठियों के बल से बुरी तरह घायल हो गये। वे दोनों वीर इन्द्र के ध्वज के समान एक साथ ही गिर पड़े।

उभयोः सेनयोर्वीरास्तदा हाहाकृतोऽभवन् भृशं मर्मण्यभिहतावुभावास्तां सुविह्वलौ

Sounds of lamenation arose from the brave ones in both armies. They were severely struck in their inner organs and lost their senses.

दोनों सेनाओं के वीरों के मुँह से विलाप की ध्वनियाँ उठने लगीं। उनके अंदरूनी अंगों पर गंभीर चोट लगी और वे अपनी इंद्रियां खो बैठे।

ततः सगदमारोप्य मद्राणामृषभं रथे अपोवाह कृपः शल्यं तूर्णमायोधनादपि

Śalya, bull among the Madra-s, was severely struck by the club and Kṛpa used his chariot to swiftly bear him away from the field of battle.

मद्रों का बैल शल्य, गदा से गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गया और कृपा ने उसे तेजी से युद्ध के मैदान से दूर ले जाने के लिए अपने रथ का उपयोग किया।

क्षीबवद्विह्वलत्वात्तु निमेषात्पुनरुत्थितः भीमसेनो गदापाणिः समाह्वयत मद्रपम्

Bhīmasena was also weakened and senseless. However, he raised himself in an instant. With the club in his hand, he challenged the king of Madra.

भीमसेन भी कमजोर और मूर्ख हो गये थे। हालाँकि, उन्होंने एक पल में ही खुद को संभाल लिया। उसने हाथ में गदा लेकर मद्र देश के राजा को ललकारा।

ततस्तु तावकाः शूरा नानाशस्त्रसमायुताः नानावादित्रशब्देन पाण्डुसेनामयोधयन्

The brave ones on your side raised many kinds of weapons. To the sound of diverse kinds of musical instruments, they fought with the Pāṇḍu soldiers.

आपके पक्ष के वीरों ने अनेक प्रकार के अस्त्र-शस्त्र उठाये। नाना प्रकार के वाद्ययंत्रों की ध्वनि के बीच वे पाण्डु सैनिकों से युद्ध करने लगे।

भुजावुच्छ्रित्य शस्त्रं च शब्देन महता ततः अभ्यद्रवन्महाराज दुर्योधनपुरोगमाः

They held weapons in their hands and made a great noise. O great king! With Duryodhana at the forefront, they attacked.

उन्होंने अपने हाथों में हथियार ले रखे थे और बहुत शोर मचा रहे थे। हे महान राजा! दुर्योधन को सबसे आगे रखकर उन्होंने आक्रमण किया।

तदनीकमभिप्रेक्ष्य ततस्ते पाण्डुनन्दनाः प्रययुः सिंहनादेन दुर्योधनवधेप्सया

On seeing those soldiers, the sons of Pāṇḍu roared like lions and advanced, wishing to kill Duryodhana.

उन सैनिकों को देखकर पाण्डु के पुत्र सिंहों की भाँति दहाड़ने लगे और दुर्योधन को मार डालने की इच्छा से आगे बढ़े।

तेषामापततां तूर्णं पुत्रस्ते भरतर्षभ प्रासेन चेकितानं वै विव्याध हृदये भृशम्

O bull among the Bhārata lineage! On seeing that they were swiftly descending, your son severely pierced Cekitāna in the heart with a javelin.

हे भरत वंश में बैल! यह देखकर कि वे तेजी से नीचे आ रहे हैं, आपके पुत्र ने भाले से चेकितान के हृदय में गंभीर रूप से छेद कर दिया।

स पपात रथोपस्थे तव पुत्रेण ताडितः रुधिरौघपरिक्लिन्नः प्रविश्य विपुलं तमः

Struck thus by your son, he fell down from his chariot. With blood flowing from his body, he was submerged in great darkness.

आपके पुत्र के इस प्रकार प्रहार से वह रथ से नीचे गिर पड़ा। उसके शरीर से खून बहने के कारण वह घोर अंधकार में डूब गया।

चेकितानं हतं दृष्ट्वा पाण्डवानां महारथाः प्रसक्तमभ्यवर्षन्त शरवर्षाणि भागशः

On seeing that Cekitāna had been killed, the mahāratha Pāṇḍava-s engaged and showered down arrows on the different divisions.

यह देखकर कि चेकितान मारा गया, महारथ पांडवों ने युद्ध किया और विभिन्न खण्डों पर बाणों की वर्षा की।

तावकानामनीकेषु पाण्डवा जितकाशिनः व्यचरन्त महाराज प्रेक्षणीयाः समन्ततः

O great king! The Pāṇḍava-s could be seen to roam around and attacked your soldiers from every direction, desiring victory.

हे महान राजा! पाण्डव विजय की इच्छा से चारों ओर घूमते और आपके सैनिकों पर हर दिशा से आक्रमण करते देखे जा सकते थे।

कृपश्च कृतवर्मा च सौबलश्च महाबलः अयोधयन्धर्मराजं मद्रराजपुरस्कृताः

With the king of Madra at the forefront, Kṛpa, Kritavarma and the immensely strong Saubala fought with Dharmarāja.

सबसे आगे मद्र के राजा के साथ, कृप, कृतवर्मा और अत्यंत शक्तिशाली सौबल ने धर्मराज के साथ युद्ध किया।

भारद्वाजस्य हन्तारं भूरिवीर्यपराक्रमम् दुर्योधनो महाराज धृष्टद्युम्नमयोधयत्

O great king! Duryodhana fought with Dhṛṣṭadyumna, who was the slayer of Bhāradvāja's son and great in his valour and bravery.

हे महान राजा! दुर्योधन ने धृष्टद्युम्न के साथ युद्ध किया, जो भारद्वाज के पुत्र का हत्यारा था और अपनी वीरता और बहादुरी में महान था।

त्रिसाहस्रा रथा राजंस्तव पुत्रेण चोदिताः अयोधयन्त विजयं द्रोणपुत्रपुरस्कृताः

O king! Goaded by your son, with Droṇa's son at their head, three thousand rāṭha-s on your side fought Vijayā.

हे राजा! आपके पुत्र के उकसावे में, द्रोण के पुत्र को सिर पर बैठाकर, आपकी ओर से तीन हजार रथ-वीरों ने विजया से युद्ध किया।

विजये धृतसंकल्पाः समभित्यक्तजीविताः प्राविशंस्तावका राजन्हंसा इव महत्सरः

O king! Setting their minds on victory and ready to give up their lives, those on your side penetrated, like swans into a large lake.

हे राजा! विजय का मन बनाकर और अपने प्राणों की आहुति देने को तैयार होकर, आपके पक्ष के लोग बड़ी झील में हंसों की तरह घुस गए।

ततो युद्धमभूद्घोरं परस्परवधैषिणाम् अन्योन्यवधसंयुक्तमन्योन्यप्रीतिवर्धनम्

As they sought to kill each other, an extremely terrible battle raged on. They wished to kill each other and were delighted at being able to strike each other.

जैसे ही उन्होंने एक-दूसरे को मारने की कोशिश की, एक अत्यंत भयानक युद्ध छिड़ गया। वे एक-दूसरे को मारना चाहते थे और एक-दूसरे पर हमला करने में सक्षम होने से खुश थे।

तस्मिन्प्रवृत्ते संग्रामे राजन्वीरवरक्षये अनिलेनेरितं घोरमुत्तस्थौ पार्थिवं रजः

O king! The battle that led to the destruction of the best among brave ones continued. The earth was covered with a terrible dust that arose in the air.

हे राजा! वह युद्ध जारी रहा जिसके कारण सर्वश्रेष्ठ वीरों का विनाश हुआ। वायु में उठी भयानक धूल से पृथ्वी ढँक गई।

श्रवणान्नामधेयानां पाण्डवानां च कीर्तनात् परस्परं विजानीमो ये चायुध्यन्नभीतवत्

We could ascertain who the Pāṇḍava-s were, only when they called out to each other. We fought fearlessly.

हमें यह तभी पता चल सका कि पांडव कौन थे, जब उन्होंने एक-दूसरे को पुकारा। हम निडर होकर लड़े.

तद्रजः पुरुषव्याघ्र शोणितेन प्रशामितम् दिशश्च विमला जज्ञुस्तस्मिन्रजसि शामिते

O tiger among men! That dust was pacified by the blood. When the dust was pacified, the directions could clearly be seen.

हे मनुष्यों में बाघ! वह धूल रक्त से शान्त हो गयी। जब धूल शांत हुई तो दिशाएँ स्पष्ट दिखाई देने लगीं।

तथा प्रवृत्ते संग्रामे घोररूपे भयानके तावकानां परेषां च नासीत्कश्चित्पराङ्मुखः

The fearful battle, terrible in form, continued between those on your side and the enemy. No one wished to retreat.

आपके पक्ष के लोगों और शत्रु के बीच भयानक युद्ध चलता रहा। कोई भी पीछे हटना नहीं चाहता था.

ब्रह्मलोकपरा भूत्वा प्रार्थयन्तो जयं युधि सुयुद्धेन पराक्रान्ता नराः स्वर्गमभीप्सवः

With Brahmā's world as the supreme objective, they wished for victory in the battle. Wishing to go to heaven, those brave men fought an excellent war.

ब्रह्मा की दुनिया को सर्वोच्च उद्देश्य मानते हुए, वे युद्ध में जीत की कामना करते थे। स्वर्ग जाने की इच्छा से उन वीरों ने उत्तम युद्ध किया।

भर्तृपिण्डविमोक्षार्थं भर्तृकार्यविनिश्चिताः स्वर्गसंसक्तमनसो योधा युयुधिरे तदा

Setting their minds on the tasks of their masters, they wished to repay the debts of their masters. With their minds set on heaven, they fought and clashed against each other.

अपने स्वामियों के कार्यों पर मन लगाकर वे अपने स्वामियों का ऋण चुकाना चाहते थे। अपने मन को स्वर्ग पर केंद्रित करके, वे एक-दूसरे से लड़े और भिड़े।

नानारूपाणि शस्त्राणि विसृजन्तो महारथाः अन्योन्यमभिगर्जन्तः प्रहरन्तः परस्परम्

The mahāratha-s released many different kinds of weapons. They roared at each other and struck each other.

महारथियों ने अनेक प्रकार के अस्त्र-शस्त्र छोड़े। वे एक-दूसरे पर दहाड़ने लगे और एक-दूसरे पर प्रहार करने लगे।

हत विध्यत गृह्णीत प्रहरध्वं निकृन्तत इति स्म वाचः श्रूयन्ते तव तेषां च वै बले

"Strike. Pierce. Seize. Hit. Sever." These were the words that were heard amongst the armies on your side and that of the enemy.

"हमला करो। छेद करो। पकड़ो। मारो। तोड़ दो।" ये वे शब्द थे जो आपकी और शत्रु की सेनाओं के बीच सुने गए।

ततः शल्यो महाराज धर्मराजं युधिष्ठिरम् विव्याध निशितैर्बाणैर्हन्तुकामो महारथम्

O great king! Wishing to kill mahāratha Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira, Śalya pierced him with sharp arrows.

हे महान राजा! शल्य ने महारथी धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर को मारने की इच्छा से उन्हें तीखे बाणों से घायल कर दिया।

तस्य पार्थो महाराज नाराचान्वै चतुर्दश मर्माण्युद्दिश्य मर्मज्ञो निचखान हसन्निव

O great king! He smiled and struck Pārtha in the inner organs with fourteen iron arrows. However, Pārtha knew about the inner organs.

हे महान राजा! उन्होंने मुस्कुराकर चौदह लोहे के बाणों से पार्थ के आंतरिक अंगों पर प्रहार किया। हालाँकि, पार्थ को आंतरिक अंगों के बारे में पता था।

तं वार्य पाण्डवं बाणैर्हन्तुकामो महायशाः विव्याध समरे क्रुद्धो बहुभिः कङ्कपत्रिभिः

The immensely illustrious one wished to kill Pāṇḍava and repulsed him with arrows. In the battle, he angrily pierced him with many arrows tufted with the feathers of herons.

अत्यंत तेजस्वी ने पांडव को मारना चाहा और बाणों से उन्हें खदेड़ दिया। युद्ध में उसने क्रोधपूर्वक बगुलों के पंखों वाले अनेक बाणों से उसे घायल कर दिया।

अथ भूयो महाराज शरेण नतपर्वणा युधिष्ठिरं समाजघ्ने सर्वसैन्यस्य पश्यतः

O great king! While all the soldiers looked on, he again struck Yudhiṣṭhira with an arrow with a drooping tuft.

हे महान राजा! जब सभी सैनिक देखते रहे, उसने फिर से युधिष्ठिर पर झुके हुए शिखा वाले बाण से प्रहार किया।

धर्मराजोऽपि संक्रुद्धो मद्रराजं महायशाः विव्याध निशितैर्बाणैः कङ्कबर्हिणवाजितैः

Dharmarāja became extremely angry. The immensely illustrious one pierced the king of Madra with sharp arrows that were tufted with the feathers of herons and peacocks.

धर्मराज अत्यंत क्रोधित हो गये। अत्यंत तेजस्वी ने बगुलों और मोर के पंखों से युक्त तीखे बाणों से मद्र देश के राजा को घायल कर दिया।

चन्द्रसेनं च सप्तत्या सूतं च नवभिः शरैः द्रुमसेनं चतुःषष्ट्या निजघान महारथः

The mahāratha then struck Candrasena with seventy arrows, his charioteer with nine and Drumasena with sixty-four.

तब महारथी ने चन्द्रसेन पर सत्तर बाणों से, उसके सारथी पर नौ बाणों से और द्रुमसेन पर चौंसठ बाणों से प्रहार किया।

चक्ररक्षे हते शल्यः पाण्डवेन महात्मना निजघान ततो राजंश्चेदीन्वै पञ्चविंशतिम्

O king! When the protectors of his chariot wheels were slain by the great-minded Pāṇḍava, Śalya killed twenty-five Cedi-s.

हे राजा! जब उसके रथ के पहियों के रक्षकों को महामनस्वी पाण्डव ने मार डाला, तब शल्य ने पच्चीस चेदिओं को मार डाला।

सात्यकिं पञ्चविंशत्या भीमसेनं च पञ्चभिः माद्रीपुत्रौ शतेनाजौ विव्याध निशितैः शरैः

He pierced Sātyaki with twenty-five sharp arrows, Bhīmasena with five and Mādrī's two sons with one hundred.

उन्होंने सात्यकि को पच्चीस तीखे बाणों से, भीमसेन को पाँच और माद्री के दोनों पुत्रों को एक सौ बाणों से घायल कर दिया।

एवं विचरतस्तस्य संग्रामे राजसत्तम संप्रेषयच्छितान्पार्थः शरानाशीविषोपमान्

O supreme among kings! While he was thus roaming around in the battle, Pārtha shot sharp arrows at him and these were like venomous serpents.

हे राजाओं में श्रेष्ठ! जब वह युद्ध में इधर-उधर घूम रहा था, तब पार्थ ने उस पर तीखे बाण छोड़े जो विषैले सर्पों के समान थे।

ध्वजाग्रं चास्य समरे कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः प्रमुखे वर्तमानस्य भल्लेनापहरद्रथात्

In the battle, with a broad-headed arrow, Yudhiṣṭhira, Kuntī's son, brought down the tip of his adversary's standard from his chariot, while he looked on.

युद्ध में कुंती के पुत्र युधिष्ठिर ने एक चौड़े सिर वाले बाण से अपने प्रतिद्वंद्वी के ध्वज के सिरे को देखते ही देखते उसके रथ से नीचे गिरा दिया।

पाण्डुपुत्रेण वै तस्य केतुं छिन्नं महात्मना निपतन्तमपश्याम गिरिशृङ्गमिवाहतम्

Severed by the great-souled son of Pāṇḍu, the standard was seen to fall down, like the summit of a mountain.

महाबली पाण्डु पुत्र द्वारा खंडित वह ध्वजा पर्वत के शिखर की भाँति नीचे गिरती हुई दिखाई दी।

ध्वजं निपतितं दृष्ट्वा पाण्डवं च व्यवस्थितम् संक्रुद्धो मद्रराजोऽभूच्छरवर्षं मुमोच ह

On seeing that his standard had been brought down and on seeing Pāṇḍava stationed, the king of Madra angrily showered down arrows.

यह देखकर कि अपना ध्वज गिरा दिया गया है तथा पाण्डवों को खड़ा देखकर मद्रराज ने क्रोधपूर्वक बाणों की वर्षा की।

शल्यः सायकवर्षेण पर्जन्य इव वृष्टिमान् अभ्यवर्षदमेयात्मा क्षत्रियं क्षत्रियर्षभः

Śalya showered down arrows, like Pārjanya pouring down rain. The bull among the kṣatriya lineage, immeasurable in his soul, showered down arrows on the kṣatriyas—

शल्य ने बाणों की वर्षा की, जैसे पर्जन्य वर्षा कर रहा हो। क्षत्रिय वंश के बैल ने, अपनी आत्मा में अथाह, क्षत्रियों पर तीरों की वर्षा की -

सात्यकिं भीमसेनं च माद्रीपुत्रौ च पाण्डवौ एकैकं पञ्चभिर्विद्ध्वा युधिष्ठिरमपीडयत्

Sātyaki, Bhīmasena and the two Pāṇḍava-s who were the sons of Mādrī. He pierced each of them with five arrows and afflicted Yudhiṣṭhira.

सात्यकि, भीमसेन और दो पांडव जो माद्री के पुत्र थे। उसने उनमें से प्रत्येक को पाँच बाणों से घायल कर दिया और युधिष्ठिर को पीड़ित कर दिया।

ततो बाणमयं जालं विततं पाण्डवोरसि अपश्याम महाराज मेघजालमिवोद्गतम्

O great king! We saw a net of arrows spread over Pāṇḍava's chest, like a mās-s of clouds that had risen.

हे महान राजा! हमने देखा कि पाण्डव की छाती पर बाणों का जाल फैला हुआ था, मानों एक समूह में बादल उमड़ आये हों।

तस्य शल्यो रणे क्रुद्धो बाणैः संनतपर्वभिः दिशः प्रच्छादयामास प्रदिशश्च महारथः

In the battle, mahāratha Śalya angrily used straight-tufted arrows to envelop the directions and the sub-directions.

युद्ध में, मराठा शल्य ने गुस्से में दिशाओं और उप-दिशाओं को घेरने के लिए सीधे-नुकीले बाणों का इस्तेमाल किया।

ततो युधिष्ठिरो राजा बाणजालेन पीडितः बभूव हृतविक्रान्तो जम्भो वृत्रहणा यथा

King Yudhiṣṭhira was afflicted by that net of arrows. He seemed to have been deprived of his valour, like Jambha by the slayer of Vṛtra.

बाणों के उस जाल से राजा युधिष्ठिर बहुत पीड़ित हो गये। ऐसा प्रतीत होता था जैसे जम्भा को वृत्र के हत्यारे द्वारा उसकी वीरता से वंचित कर दिया गया हो।
