Duryodhana said: "O Kshatta! Bring Draupadī here, the beloved and honoured wife of the Pāṇḍava-s. Let her sweep and perform our tasks. It will be good to see her with the serving girls."
दुर्योधन ने कहा: "हे क्षत्रिय! पांडवों की प्रिय और सम्मानित पत्नी द्रौपदी को यहां लाओ। उसे झाड़ू लगाने दो और हमारे कार्य करने दो। उसे सेवा करने वाली लड़कियों के साथ देखना अच्छा होगा।"

दुर्विभाव्यं भवति त्वादृशेन; न मन्द संबुध्यसि पाशबद्धः
प्रपाते त्वं लम्बमानो न वेत्सि; व्याघ्रान्मृगः कोपयसेऽतिबाल्यात्
Vidūra replied: "Through people like you, the impossible happens. O evil one! You do not know that you are tying yourself in a noose. You do not realize that you are extended over a precipice. You are only a deer, but you are angering tigers.
विदुर ने उत्तर दिया: "तुम्हारे जैसे लोगों के माध्यम से, असंभव घटित होता है। हे दुष्ट! तुम नहीं जानते कि तुम अपने आप को एक पाश में बांध रहे हो। तुम्हें एहसास नहीं है कि तुम एक खाई में फैले हुए हो। तुम केवल एक हिरण हो, लेकिन तुम क्रोधित बाघ हो।"

मा कोपिष्ठाः सुमन्दात्मन्मा गमस्त्वं यमक्षयम्
O one who is greatly evil at heart! Angry serpents, full of great venom, have raised themselves above your head. Do not anger them and go to Yāma's abode.
हे हृदय के अत्यंत दुष्ट! महान विष से भरे क्रोधित सर्प तुम्हारे सिर पर चढ़ गये हैं। उन्हें क्रोधित मत करो और यम के निवास पर मत जाओ।

अनीशेन हि राज्ञैषा पणे न्यस्तेति मे मतिः
O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Kṛṣṇā has not yet become a slave. The king offered her as stake when he was no longer his master.
हे भरत वंश के वंशज! कृष्ण अभी तक गुलाम नहीं बने हैं । जब राजा उसका स्वामी नहीं रहा तो उसने उसे दांव पर लगा दिया।

अयं धत्ते वेणुरिवात्मघाती; फलं राजा धृतराष्ट्रस्य पुत्रः
द्यूतं हि वैराय महाभयाय; पक्वो न बुध्यत्ययमन्तकाले
A bamboo bears fruit only to kill itself. This king, Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son, also bears fruit. He does not see that gambling leads to fearful enmity and that he is ripe, like one about to meet his destiny.
बांस स्वयं को मारने के लिए ही फल खाता है। यह राजा, धृतराष्ट्र का पुत्र, भी फल देता है। वह यह नहीं देखता कि जुए से भयानक शत्रुता पैदा होती है और वह परिपक्व हो चुका है, जैसे कोई अपने भाग्य को पूरा करने वाला हो।

नारुंतुदः स्यान्न नृशंसवादी; न हीनतः परमभ्याददीत
ययास्य वाचा पर उद्विजेत; न तां वदेद्रुशतीं पापलोक्याम्
No one should cause hurt, or act cruelly. Nor should one extract from one who is miserable. Words that cause pain and hurt others should not be uttered, because they lead to hell.
किसी को भी चोट नहीं पहुँचानी चाहिए, या क्रूरतापूर्वक कार्य नहीं करना चाहिए। न ही जो दुखी है उससे कुछ लेना चाहिए। ऐसे शब्द जो दूसरों को पीड़ा पहुंचाते हैं और दुख पहुंचाते हैं, उनका उच्चारण नहीं करना चाहिए, क्योंकि वे नरक की ओर ले जाते हैं।

समुच्चरन्त्यतिवादा हि वक्त्रा;द्यैराहतः शोचति रात्र्यहानि
परस्य नामर्मसु ते पतन्ति; तान्पण्डितो नावसृजेत्परेषु
From his lips, a man utters words that hurt. The one stung by them burns night and day. Therefore, learned ones do not utter words that unleashed on another, pierce the depths of the heart.
मनुष्य अपने होठों से दुःख देने वाले शब्द बोलता है। उनका डंका रात-दिन जलता रहता है। इसलिए, विद्वान लोग ऐसे शब्द नहीं बोलते जो दूसरे पर प्रभाव डालते हों, हृदय की गहराइयों को भेदते हों।

अजो हि शस्त्रमखनत्किलैकः; शस्त्रे विपन्ने पद्भिरपास्य भूमिम्
निकृन्तनं स्वस्य कण्ठस्य घोरं; तद्वद्वैरं मा खनीः पाण्डुपुत्रैः
When a weapon could not be found, by pawing the ground, it is said that a goat dug up a weapon that was used to cut its own throat. Therefore, do not dig up an enmity with the sons of Pāṇḍu.
कहा जाता है कि जब कोई हथियार नहीं मिला तो जमीन पर पंजा मारकर जमीन खोदने से बकरी ने एक हथियार खोद निकाला, जिससे उसका अपना गला कट गया। अत: पाण्डु पुत्रों से वैर मत पालो।

न किंचिदीड्यं प्रवदन्ति पापं; वनेचरं वा गृहमेधिनं वा
तपस्विनं संपरिपूर्णविद्यं; भषन्ति हैवं श्वनराः सदैव
No one speaks ill of the forest-dweller or householder. But like dogs, the same men bark at the ascetic who is full of learning.
वनवासी अथवा गृहस्थ को कोई बुरा नहीं कहता। परन्तु वही मनुष्य विद्या से परिपूर्ण तपस्वी पर कुत्तों की भाँति भौंकते हैं।

द्वारं सुघोरं नरकस्य जिह्मं; न बुध्यसे धृतराष्ट्रस्य पुत्र
त्वामन्वेतारो बहवः कुरूणां; द्यूतोदये सह दुःशासनेन
Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son does not know the crooked and terrible door that leads to hell. Duḥśāsana and many others among the Kuru-s will follow him there, through the route of gambling.
धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्र को नरक की ओर जाने वाले टेढ़े और भयानक दरवाजे का पता नहीं है। दुःशासन और कौरवों में से कई अन्य लोग जुए के रास्ते से वहां उसका अनुसरण करेंगे।

मज्जन्त्यलाबूनि शिलाः प्लवन्ते; मुह्यन्ति नावोऽम्भसि शश्वदेव
मूढो राजा धृतराष्ट्रस्य पुत्रो; न मे वाचः पथ्यरूपाः शृणोति
Gourds may sink and stones may float. Boats may eternally be lost on the seas. But King Dhṛtarāṣṭra's deluded son will not listen to my words, which are appropriate for him.
लौकी डूब सकती है और पत्थर तैर सकते हैं। समुद्र में नावें हमेशा के लिए खो सकती हैं। परन्तु राजा धृतराष्ट्र का मोहग्रस्त पुत्र मेरे उचित वचनों को नहीं मानेगा।
It is certain that this will be the end of the Kuru-s, a terrible end that will lead to everyone's destruction. The words of Kāvya and his well-wishers were apt. But because greed has expanded, they are no longer listened to."
यह निश्चित है कि यह कुरु-वंश का अंत होगा, एक भयानक अंत जो सभी के विनाश का कारण बनेगा। काव्या और उनके शुभचिंतकों की बातें उचित थीं. लेकिन क्योंकि लालच बढ़ गया है, अब उनकी बात नहीं सुनी जाती।”
