विदुर उवाच द्यूतं मूलं कलहस्यानुपाति; मिथोभेदाय महते वा रणाय यदास्थितोऽयं धृतराष्ट्रस्य पुत्रो; दुर्योधनः सृजते वैरमुग्रम्

Vidūra said: "Gambling is the root of all quarrels. Its consequence is dissension and great wars. Taking recourse to it, Duryodhana, Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son, creates terrible enmity.

विदुर ने कहा: "जुआ सभी झगड़ों की जड़ है। इसका परिणाम मतभेद और बड़े युद्ध हैं। इसका सहारा लेकर धृतराष्ट्र का पुत्र दुर्योधन भयानक शत्रुता पैदा करता है।"

प्रातिपीयाः शांतनवा भैमसेनाः सबाह्लिकाः दुर्योधनापराधेन कृच्छ्रं प्राप्स्यन्ति सर्वशः

Because of Duryodhana's crime, all the descendants of Prātīpa and Śāntanu, together with their terrible armies and with the descendants of the Bahlikas, will be destroyed.

दुर्योधन के अपराध के कारण, प्रतीप और शांतनु के सभी वंशज, उनकी भयानक सेनाओं और बाह्लीक के वंशजों सहित, नष्ट हो जाएंगे।

दुर्योधनो मदेनैव क्षेमं राष्ट्रादपोहति विषाणं गौरिव मदात्स्वयमारुजते बलात्

Like an angry bull that breaks its own horns forcibly, Duryodhana's stupidity will drive safety away from this kingdom.

क्रोधित बैल की तरह जो अपने ही सींगों को बलपूर्वक तोड़ देता है, दुर्योधन की मूर्खता इस राज्य से सुरक्षा को दूर कर देगी।

यश्चित्तमन्वेति परस्य राज;न्वीरः कविः स्वामतिपत्य दृष्टिम् नावं समुद्र इव बालनेत्रा;मारुह्य घोरे व्यसने निमज्जेत्

O king! A brave and wise man who disregards his sagacity and follows another's mind, is like one who goes to the sea in a boat guided by a child and is immersed in terrible affliction.

हे राजा! एक बहादुर और बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति जो अपनी बुद्धिमत्ता की उपेक्षा करता है और दूसरे के मन की बात मानता है, वह उस व्यक्ति के समान है जो एक बच्चे द्वारा निर्देशित नाव में समुद्र में जाता है और भयानक संकट में डूब जाता है।

दुर्योधनो ग्लहते पाण्डवेन; प्रियायसे त्वं जयतीति तच्च अतिनर्माज्जायते संप्रहारो; यतो विनाशः समुपैति पुंसाम्

Duryodhana is gambling with Pāṇḍava and it pleases you because you think he is winning. But in this overdone deed is created a war that will lead to the destruction of all men.

दुर्योधन पांडवों के साथ जुआ खेल रहा है और यह आपको प्रसन्न करता है क्योंकि आप सोचते हैं कि वह जीत रहा है। लेकिन इस अतिरंजित कार्य से एक युद्ध उत्पन्न होता है जो सभी मनुष्यों के विनाश का कारण बनेगा।

आकर्षस्तेऽवाक्फलः कुप्रणीतो; हृदि प्रौढो मन्त्रपदः समाधिः युधिष्ठिरेण सफलः संस्तवोऽस्तु; साम्नः सुरिक्तोऽरिमतेः सुधन्वा

This badly designed act will lead to a decline in fruits. In the heart of the one who has resorted to counsel, there is great composure. Friendship with Yudhiṣṭhira will lead to good fruit. Through pacification, the one with the excellent bow will no longer exhibit enmity.

इस बुरी तरह से डिजाइन किए गए कार्य से फलों में गिरावट आएगी। जिसने परामर्श का सहारा लिया है उसके हृदय में महान् शांति होती है। युधिष्ठिर से मित्रता का शुभ फल मिलेगा। शांति के माध्यम से, उत्कृष्ट धनुष वाला व्यक्ति अब शत्रुता प्रदर्शित नहीं करेगा।

प्रातिपीयाः शांतनवाश्च राज;न्काव्यां वाचं शृणुत मात्यगाद्वः वैश्वानरं प्रज्वलितं सुघोर;मयुद्धेन प्रशमयतोत्पतन्तम्

O descendants of Prātīpa! O descendants of Śāntanu! O kings! Listen to Kāvya's words and do not cross the limits. The terrible fire has blazed forth. Extinguish it before there is a war.

हे प्रतीप के वंशजों! हे शांतनु के वंशजों! हे राजाओं! काव्या की बातें सुनें और सीमा पार न करें. भयानक आग भड़क उठी है. युद्ध होने से पहले इसे बुझा दो.

यदा मन्युं पाण्डवोऽजातशत्रु;र्न संयच्छेदक्षमयाभिभूतः वृकोदरः सव्यसाची यमौ च; कोऽत्र द्वीपः स्यात्तुमुले वस्तदानीम्

If Pāṇḍava Ajātaśatru is defeated in dice and his anger is not pacified by Vṛkodara, Savyasachi and the twins, there will be no refuge in the terrible onslaught that will ensue.

यदि पांडव अजातशत्रु पासों में हार गए और उनका क्रोध वृकोदर, सव्यसाची और जुड़वाँ द्वारा शांत नहीं किया गया, तो होने वाले भयानक हमले में कोई शरण नहीं होगी।

महाराज प्रभवस्त्वं धनानां; पुरा द्यूतान्मनसा यावदिच्छेः बहु वित्तं पाण्डवांश्चेज्जयेस्त्वं; किं तेन स्याद्वसु विन्देह पार्थान्

O great king! You are a source of great riches, as muc as you desired, even before this game. Even if you win great riches from the Pāṇḍava-s, what is the gain? Pṛthā's sons are the source of wealth.

हे महान राजा! आप महान धन के स्रोत हैं, जितनी आप चाहते थे, इस खेल से पहले भी। यदि आप पांडवों से बहुत सारा धन जीत भी लें, तो भी लाभ क्या है? पृथा के पुत्र धन के स्रोत हैं।

जानीमहे देवितं सौबलस्य; वेद द्यूते निकृतिं पार्वतीयः यतः प्राप्तः शकुनिस्तत्र यातु; मायायोधी भारत पार्वतीयः

We all know Saubala's skills in the game. This one from the mountains knows techniques of deceit with dice. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Let Śākuni return whence he came. The one from the mountains fights with the powers of māyā."

सौबाला के खेल कौशल को हम सभी जानते हैं। यह पहाड़ का आदमी पासे से छल की तकनीक जानता है। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! शकुनि को वहीं लौट जाने दो जहां से वह आया था। पहाड़ों का व्यक्ति माया की शक्तियों से लड़ता है।"
