भीष्म उवाच चेदिराजकुले जातस्त्र्यक्ष एष चतुर्भुजः रासभारावसदृशं रुराव च ननाद च

Bhīṣma said: "This one was born in the royal lineage of Cedi with three eyes and four arms. As soon as he was born, he screamed and brayed like an ass.

भीष्म ने कहा: "यह तीन आंखों और चार भुजाओं के साथ सेडी के शाही वंश में पैदा हुआ था। जैसे ही वह पैदा हुआ, वह गधे की तरह चिल्लाने और रेंकने लगा।

तेनास्य मातापितरौ त्रेसतुस्तौ सबान्धवौ वैकृतं तच्च तौ दृष्ट्वा त्यागाय कुरुतां मतिम्

His father and mother, and their relatives, were struck with fear on seeing his malformed body and resolved to abandon him.

उसके विकृत शरीर को देखकर उसके पिता, माता और उनके रिश्तेदार भयभीत हो गये और उन्होंने उसे त्यागने का निश्चय कर लिया।

ततः सभार्यं नृपतिं सामात्यं सपुरोहितम् चिन्तासंमूढहृदयं वागुवाचाशरीरिणी

The hearts of the king, his wife, his advisers and his priests were befuddled with anxiety.

राजा, उसकी पत्नी, उसके सलाहकारों और उसके पुजारियों के हृदय चिंता से भ्रमित हो गए।

एष ते नृपते पुत्रः श्रीमाञ्जातो महाबलः तस्मादस्मान्न भेतव्यमव्यग्रः पाहि वै शिशुम्

However, a disembodied voice spoke. "O king! This son that has been born will be fortunate and supreme in strength. Therefore, do not be scared of him. Carefully tend to the child.

हालाँकि, एक असंबद्ध आवाज़ बोली। "हे राजन! यह जो पुत्र उत्पन्न हुआ है, वह भाग्यशाली और परम बलशाली होगा। अत: तुम उससे मत डरो। तुम बालक का ध्यानपूर्वक पालन-पोषण करो।"

न चैवैतस्य मृत्युस्त्वं न कालः प्रत्युपस्थितः मृत्युर्हन्तास्य शस्त्रेण स चोत्पन्नो नराधिप

O lord of men! His death will not be at your hands. The time has not yet come. The one who will bring about his death with weapons has also been born."

हे मनुष्यों के स्वामी! उसकी मृत्यु आपके हाथों नहीं होगी. अभी समय नहीं आया है. उसका वध शस्त्रों से करने वाला भी उत्पन्न हो चुका है।”

संश्रुत्योदाहृतं वाक्यं भूतमन्तर्हितं ततः पुत्रस्नेहाभिसंतप्ता जननी वाक्यमब्रवीत्

On hearing these invisible words, the mother became anxious as a result of affection for her son and said,

इन अदृश्य शब्दों को सुनकर माँ अपने पुत्र के स्नेह के कारण चिंतित हो गयी और बोली,

येनेदमीरितं वाक्यं ममैव तनयं प्रति प्राञ्जलिस्तं नमस्यामि ब्रवीतु स पुनर्वचः

"With hands joined in salutation, I bow down before the one who has uttered these words about my son. Please let him speak some more.

"हाथ जोड़कर, मैं उस व्यक्ति के सामने झुकता हूं जिसने मेरे बेटे के बारे में ये शब्द कहे हैं। कृपया उसे कुछ और बोलने दें।"

श्रोतुमिच्छामि पुत्रस्य कोऽस्य मृत्युर्भविष्यति अन्तर्हितं ततो भूतमुवाचेदं पुनर्वचः

I wish to know who will bring about my son's death." At that, the invisible voice spoke again.

मैं जानना चाहता हूं कि मेरे बेटे की मौत कौन करेगा।" उस पर, अदृश्य आवाज फिर से बोली।

येनोत्सङ्गे गृहीतस्य भुजावभ्यधिकावुभौ पतिष्यतः क्षितितले पञ्चशीर्षाविवोरगौ

"There is one on whose lap this child will be placed, whereupon the extra arms will fall down on the ground like five-headed snakes

"कोई है जिसकी गोद में इस बच्चे को रखा जाएगा, जिसके बाद अतिरिक्त भुजाएं पांच सिर वाले सांप की तरह जमीन पर गिर जाएंगी

तृतीयमेतद्बालस्य ललाटस्थं च लोचनम् निमज्जिष्यति यं दृष्ट्वा सोऽस्य मृत्युर्भविष्यति

and the third eye on the forehead will disappear. He will be the slayer."

और माथे पर मौजूद तीसरी आंख गायब हो जाएगी. वह हत्यारा होगा।"

त्र्यक्षं चतुर्भुजं श्रुत्वा तथा च समुदाहृतम् धरण्यां पार्थिवाः सर्वे अभ्यगच्छन्दिदृक्षवः

On hearing of the three eyes and four arms and the invisible words, all the kings on earth came to see him.

तीन आँखों, चार भुजाओं और अदृश्य शब्दों को सुनकर पृथ्वी के सभी राजा उन्हें देखने आये।

तान्पूजयित्वा संप्राप्तान्यथार्हं स महीपतिः एकैकस्य नृपस्याङ्के पुत्रमारोपयत्तदा

The lord of the earth showed them homage as they arrived, in accordance with what they deserved and placed his son separately on each king's lap, one after another.

जैसे ही वे आये, पृथ्वी के स्वामी ने उन्हें सम्मान दिया, जिसके वे हकदार थे और एक के बाद एक, प्रत्येक राजा की गोद में अपने बेटे को अलग-अलग बिठाया।

एवं राजसहस्राणां पृथक्त्वेन यथाक्रमम् शिशुरङ्के समारूढो न तत्प्राप निदर्शनम्

But though the child ascended thousands of laps, what had been said did not come to paś-s.

लेकिन यद्यपि बच्चा हज़ारों चक्कर लगा चुका था, फिर भी जो कहा गया था वह पूरा नहीं हुआ।

ततश्चेदिपुरं प्राप्तौ संकर्षणजनार्दनौ यादवौ यादवीं द्रष्टुं स्वसारं तां पितुस्तदा

Then the Yādava-s Saṃkarṣaṇa and Janārdana went to the capital of the Cedi kingdom to see the Yādavī who was their father's sister.

तब यादव-संकर्षण और जनार्दन उस यादवी को देखने के लिए सेडी साम्राज्य की राजधानी गए जो उनके पिता की बहन थी।

अभिवाद्य यथान्यायं यथाज्येष्ठं नृपांश्च तान् कुशलानामयं पृष्ट्वा निषण्णौ रामकेशवौ

Rāma and Keśava honoured every king in accordance with rank and superiority, inquired about everyone's welfare and seated themselves.

राम और केशव ने प्रत्येक राजा का पद और श्रेष्ठता के अनुसार सम्मान किया, सभी का कुशलक्षेम पूछा और बैठ गये।

अभ्यर्चितौ तदा वीरौ प्रीत्या चाभ्यधिकं ततः पुत्रं दामोदरोत्सङ्गे देवी संन्यदधात्स्वयम्

After the two warriors had been shown homage, the queen herself placed her son on Dāmodara's lap, with a pleasure that was more than usual.

दोनों योद्धाओं को श्रद्धांजलि देने के बाद, रानी ने स्वयं अपने बेटे को दामोदर की गोद में रख दिया, जो सामान्य से अधिक खुशी थी।

न्यस्तमात्रस्य तस्याङ्के भुजावभ्यधिकावुभौ पेततुस्तच्च नयनं निममज्ज ललाटजम्

As soon as the child was placed on his lap, the extra arms fell off and the eye on the forehead sank.

जैसे ही बच्चे को उसकी गोद में रखा गया, अतिरिक्त भुजाएँ गिर गईं और माथे पर लगी आँख धँस गई।

तद्दृष्ट्वा व्यथिता त्रस्ता वरं कृष्णमयाचत ददस्व मे वरं कृष्ण भयार्ताया महाभुज

On seeing this, she was miserable and frightened and prayed to Kṛṣṇā for a boon. "O Kṛṣṇā! O mighty-armed one! I am afflicted with fear. Please grant me a boon.

यह देखकर वह दुखी और भयभीत हो गयी और उसने कृष्ण से वरदान माँगने की प्रार्थना की। "हे कृष्ण! हे महाबाहु! मैं भय से पीड़ित हूं। कृपया मुझे वरदान दें।"

त्वं ह्यार्तानां समाश्वासो भीतानामभयंकरः पितृष्वसारं मा भैषीरित्युवाच जनार्दनः

You provide relief to everyone who is oppressed. You are the refuge of everyone who is frightened." "Do not be afraid," Janārdana told his father's sister.

आप उन सभी को राहत प्रदान करते हैं जो उत्पीड़ित हैं। आप सभी डरे हुए लोगों की शरण हैं।" "डरो मत," जनार्दन ने अपने पिता की बहन से कहा।

ददानि कं वरं किं वा करवाणि पितृष्वसः शक्यं वा यदि वाशक्यं करिष्यामि वचस्तव

"O aunt! What boon will I give you? What shall I do? I will obey your words, be it possible or impossible."

"हे मौसी! मैं तुम्हें क्या वरदान दूँगा? मैं क्या करूँगा? मैं तुम्हारी बात मानूँगा, चाहे वह संभव हो या असंभव।"

एवमुक्ता ततः कृष्णमब्रवीद्यदुनन्दनम् शिशुपालस्यापराधान्क्षमेथास्त्वं महाबल

At these words, she told Kṛṣṇā, the son of the Yadu lineage, "O immensely strong one! Please pardon Śiśupāla's transgressions."

इन शब्दों पर, उसने यदु वंश के पुत्र कृष्ण से कहा, "हे अत्यंत बलवान! कृपया शिशुपाल के अपराधों को क्षमा करें।"

कृष्ण उवाच अपराधशतं क्षाम्यं मया ह्यस्य पितृष्वसः पुत्रस्य ते वधार्हाणां मा त्वं शोके मनः कृथाः

Kṛṣṇā replied: "O aunt! I will pardon one hundred offences of your son, even if they are offences that deserve death. Therefore, do not grieve."

कृष्ण ने उत्तर दिया: "हे मौसी! मैं आपके पुत्र के सौ अपराध क्षमा कर दूंगा, भले ही वे मृत्युदंड के योग्य अपराध हों। इसलिए, शोक मत करो।"

भीष्म उवाच एवमेष नृपः पापः शिशुपालः सुमन्दधीः त्वां समाह्वयते वीर गोविन्दवरदर्पितः

Bhīṣma said: "O brave one! Such is this evil king Śiśupāla, evil in intelligence. Insolent because of Govinda's boon, he can now challenge you."

भीष्म ने कहा: "हे वीर! ऐसा ही यह दुष्ट राजा शिशुपाल है, जो बुद्धि में दुष्ट है। गोविंदा के वरदान के कारण ढीठ, वह अब आपको चुनौती दे सकता है।"
