वैशंपायन उवाच ततस्तं निश्चितात्मानं युद्धाय यदुनन्दनः उवाच वाग्मी राजानं जरासंधमधोक्षजः

Vaiśampāyana said: Then Adhokṣaja, descendant of the Yadu lineage and eloquent in speech, spoke to King Jarāsandha, who had resolved to do battle.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: तब यदु वंश के वंशज और भाषण में निपुण अधोक्षज ने राजा जरासंध से बात की, जिन्होंने युद्ध करने का संकल्प लिया था।

त्रयाणां केन ते राजन्योद्धुं वितरते मनः अस्मदन्यतमेनेह सज्जीभवतु को युधि

"O king! With which one of us three have you made up your mind to fight? Who among us should be ready for the battle?"

"हे राजन! आपने हम तीनों में से किससे युद्ध करने का मन बनाया है? हममें से किसे युद्ध के लिए तैयार होना चाहिए?"

एवमुक्तः स कृष्णेन युद्धं वव्रे महाद्युतिः जरासंधस्ततो राजन्भीमसेनेन मागधः

O king! Having been thus addressed by Kṛṣṇā, the immensely radiant Māgadha Jarāsandha decided to do battle with Bhīmasena.

हे राजा! कृष्ण द्वारा इस प्रकार संबोधित किये जाने पर अत्यंत तेजस्वी मगध जरासंध ने भीमसेन से युद्ध करने का निश्चय किया।

धारयन्नगदान्मुख्यान्निर्वृतीर्वेदनानि च उपतस्थे जरासंधं युयुत्सुं वै पुरोहितः

The priest brought chief herbs for alleviating pain and restoring consciousness to Jarāsandha, who was impatient for the fight.

पुजारी जरासंध को दर्द कम करने और चेतना बहाल करने के लिए मुख्य जड़ी-बूटियाँ लाए, जो लड़ाई के लिए अधीर थे।

कृतस्वस्त्ययनो विद्वान्ब्राह्मणेन यशस्विना समनह्यज्जरासंधः क्षत्रधर्ममनुव्रतः

A famous and learned brāhmaṇa performed the benedictions. In accordance with the dharma of kṣatriya-s, Jarāsandha dressed himself appropriately.

एक प्रसिद्ध और विद्वान ब्राह्मण ने आशीर्वाद दिया। क्षत्रिय-धर्म के अनुसार, जरासंध ने उचित वस्त्र पहने।

अवमुच्य किरीटं स केशान्समनुमृज्य च उदतिष्ठज्जरासंधो वेलातिग इवार्णवः

He removed his crown and tied up his hair. Jarāsandha arose like an ocean that bursts through the shoreline.

उसने अपना मुकुट उतार दिया और अपने बाल बाँध लिये। जरासंध समुद्र की तरह उभरा जो तटरेखा से फूटकर फूट पड़ता है।

उवाच मतिमान्राजा भीमं भीमपराक्रमम् भीम योत्स्ये त्वया सार्धं श्रेयसा निर्जितं वरम्

The intelligent king spoke to Bhīmā, whose valour was terrible. "O Bhīmā! I will fight with you. It is better to be vanquished by a superior one."

बुद्धिमान राजा ने भीम से बात की, जिनकी वीरता भयानक थी। "हे भीम! मैं तुमसे युद्ध करूंगा। किसी श्रेष्ठ व्यक्ति द्वारा परास्त होना बेहतर है।"

एवमुक्त्वा जरासंधो भीमसेनमरिंदमः प्रत्युद्ययौ महातेजाः शक्रं बलिरिवासुरः

Having said this, the immensely energetic Jarāsandha, conqueror of enemies, rushed at Bhīmasena, like the demon Bali once rushed at Śākra.

इतना कहकर, शत्रुओं पर विजय प्राप्त करने वाला अत्यंत ऊर्जावान जरासंध भीमसेन पर उसी प्रकार झपटा, जैसे एक बार राक्षस बाली शक्र पर झपटा था।

ततः संमन्त्र्य कृष्णेन कृतस्वस्त्ययनो बली भीमसेनो जरासंधमाससाद युयुत्सया

After consultations with Kṛṣṇā, the powerful Bhīmasena had also had benedictions performed and, eager to fight, advanced towards Jarāsandha.

कृष्ण के साथ परामर्श के बाद, शक्तिशाली भीमसेन ने भी आशीर्वाद लिया और लड़ने के लिए उत्सुक होकर, जरासंध की ओर बढ़े।

ततस्तौ नरशार्दूलौ बाहुशस्त्रौ समीयतुः वीरौ परमसंहृष्टावन्योन्यजयकाङ्क्षिणौ

Those two supreme warriors, tigers among men and armed only with their bare arms, engaged each other, extremely eager and each desiring to defeat the other.

वे दो सर्वोच्च योद्धा, मनुष्यों में बाघ और केवल अपनी नंगी भुजाओं से सुसज्जित, अत्यधिक उत्सुक और एक-दूसरे को हराने की इच्छा से एक-दूसरे से भिड़ गए।

तयोरथ भुजाघातान्निग्रहप्रग्रहात्तथा आसीत्सुभीमसंह्रादो वज्रपर्वतयोरिव

The sounds of grasping, holding and releasing of the arms then resounded with a terrible roar, like the roar of thunderbolts striking mountains.

हथियारों को पकड़ने, पकड़ने और छोड़ने की आवाजें तब भयानक गर्जना के साथ गूँज उठीं, जैसे पहाड़ों पर वज्रपात की गर्जना हो।

उभौ परमसंहृष्टौ बलेनातिबलावुभौ अन्योन्यस्यान्तरं प्रेप्सू परस्परजयैषिणौ

Both of them were the strongest among those who were strong and were supreme in their eagerness. Desiring victory, each sought to exploit weaknesses in the other.

वे दोनों ही बलवानों में सबसे अधिक बलशाली थे और अपनी उत्सुकता में सर्वोच्च थे। जीत की इच्छा रखते हुए, प्रत्येक ने दूसरे की कमजोरियों का फायदा उठाने की कोशिश की।

तद्भीममुत्सार्य जनं युद्धमासीदुपह्वरे बलिनोः संयुगे राजन्वृत्रवासवयोरिव

O king! This duel between the powerful ones was like that between Vāsava and Vṛtra and the terrible duel sometimes drove away the crowds that were near.

हे राजा! शक्तिशाली लोगों के बीच यह द्वंद्व वासव और वृत्र के बीच जैसा था और भयानक द्वंद्व ने कभी-कभी पास की भीड़ को दूर कर दिया।

प्रकर्षणाकर्षणाभ्यामभ्याकर्षविकर्षणैः आकर्षेतां तथान्योन्यं जानुभिश्चाभिजघ्नतुः

They pulled each other forward and broke away from each other's holds. They threw the other one down and to the sides, dragging and grabbing the thighs.

उन्होंने एक-दूसरे को आगे खींचा और एक-दूसरे की पकड़ से अलग हो गये। उन्होंने दूसरे को नीचे और किनारे पर फेंक दिया, उसकी जाँघों को पकड़कर खींच लिया।

ततः शब्देन महता भर्त्सयन्तौ परस्परम् पाषाणसंघातनिभैः प्रहारैरभिजघ्नतुः

They insulted each other in loud words. They struck each other with rocklike blows.

उन्होंने ऊंचे शब्दों में एक दूसरे का अपमान किया. उन्होंने एक-दूसरे पर चट्टानी प्रहारों से प्रहार किया।

व्यूढोरस्कौ दीर्घभुजौ नियुद्धकुशलावुभौ बाहुभिः समसज्जेतामायसैः परिघैरिव

With broad shoulders and long arms, the two skilled fighters rained blows on each other with arms that were like iron clubs.

चौड़े कंधे और लंबी भुजाओं वाले दोनों कुशल लड़ाके लोहे की लाठियों जैसी भुजाओं से एक-दूसरे पर वार कर रहे थे।

कार्त्तिकस्य तु मासस्य प्रवृत्तं प्रथमेऽहनि अनारतं दिवारात्रमविश्रान्तमवर्तत

The duel started on the first day of the month of Kartika. Ceaselessly, it went on day and night.

द्वंद्वयुद्ध कार्तिक महीने के पहले दिन शुरू हुआ। अनवरत, यह दिन-रात चलता रहा।

तद्वृत्तं तु त्रयोदश्यां समवेतं महात्मनोः चतुर्दश्यां निशायां तु निवृत्तो मागधः क्लमात्

The greatsouled fighters were still engaged on the thirteenth day. But on the night of the fourteenth day, the Māgadha withdrew, as he was exhausted.

महान आत्मा वाले योद्धा तेरहवें दिन भी लगे हुए थे। लेकिन चौदहवें दिन की रात को, मगध पीछे हट गया, क्योंकि वह थक गया था।

तं राजानं तथा क्लान्तं दृष्ट्वा राजञ्जनार्दनः उवाच भीमकर्माणं भीमं संबोधयन्निव

O king! On seeing that the king was tired, Janārdana spoke, as if to Bhīmā of the terrible deeds.

हे राजा! यह देखकर कि राजा थक गया है, जनार्दन ने भीम से मानो भयानक कर्मों के बारे में कहा।

क्लान्तः शत्रुर्न कौन्तेय लभ्यः पीडयितुं रणे पीड्यमानो हि कार्त्स्न्येन जह्याज्जीवितमात्मनः

"O Kaunteya! One should not preṣ-s down on an enemy who is weakened in battle. If preṣ-sed down at such a time, he might completely give up his soul.

"हे कौन्तेय! किसी को युद्ध में कमजोर हुए शत्रु पर दबाव नहीं डालना चाहिए। यदि ऐसे समय में दबाव डाला जाता है, तो वह पूरी तरह से अपनी आत्मा का त्याग कर सकता है।

तस्मात्ते नैव कौन्तेय पीडनीयो नराधिपः सममेतेन युध्यस्व बाहुभ्यां भरतर्षभ

O Kaunteya! Therefore, you should not preṣ-s down upon the king. O bull among the Bhārata-s! Fight him with your arms, so that he can be an equal."

हे कौन्तेय! इसलिए, आपको राजा पर दबाव नहीं डालना चाहिए। हे भरतवंशियों में से बैल! अपनी भुजाओं से उससे लड़ो, ताकि वह बराबरी का हो जाए।”

एवमुक्तः स कृष्णेन पाण्डवः परवीरहा जरासंधस्य तद्रन्ध्रं ज्ञात्वा चक्रे मतिं वधे

From these words of Kṛṣṇā, the Pāṇḍava, the destroyer of enemy warriors, got to know Jarāsandha's weakness and determined to kill him.

कृष्ण के इन शब्दों से, शत्रु योद्धाओं का संहार करने वाले पांडव को जरासंध की कमजोरी का पता चला और उन्होंने उसे मारने का फैसला किया।

ततस्तमजितं जेतुं जरासंधं वृकोदरः संरभ्य बलिनां मुख्यो जग्राह कुरुनन्दनः

Vṛkodara, descendant of the Kuru lineage and chief among those who are strong, then seized the unvanquished Jarāsandha, with the intention of vanquishing him.

कुरु वंश के वंशज और शक्तिशाली लोगों में प्रमुख वृकोदर ने तब अजेय जरासंध को परास्त करने के इरादे से पकड़ लिया।
