वैशंपायन उवाच एवं सा रजनी तेषामाश्रमे पुण्यकर्मणाम् शिवा नक्षत्रसंपन्ना सा व्यतीयाय भारत

Vaishmapayana said Thus that night passed for those who performed meritorious deeds in the hermitage, O descendant of the Bharata lineage, it was auspicious, endowed with constellations.

वैश्मापायन ने कहा, हे भरत वंश के वंशज, आश्रम में पुण्य कर्म करने वालों के लिए वह रात शुभ थी, नक्षत्रों से युक्त थी।

तत्र तत्र कथाश्चासंस्तेषां धर्मार्थलक्षणाः विचित्रपदसंचारा नानाश्रुतिभिरन्विताः

There were stories here and there, characterized by Dharma and meaning, with various wordings and accompanied by various teachings.

यहाँ-वहाँ ऐसी कहानियाँ थीं, जो धर्म और अर्थ से युक्त, विभिन्न शब्दों के साथ और विभिन्न शिक्षाओं से युक्त थीं।

पाण्डवास्त्वभितो मातुर्धरण्यां सुषुपुस्तदा उत्सृज्य सुमहार्हाणि शयनानि नराधिप

The Pandavas, however, lay down on the ground, near their mother, giving up their very expensive beds.

हालाँकि, पांडव अपने महंगे बिस्तरों को त्यागकर, अपनी माँ के पास, जमीन पर लेट गए।

यदाहारोऽभवद्राजा धृतराष्ट्रो महामनाः तदाहारा नृवीरास्ते न्यवसंस्तां निशां तदा

The great-minded King Dhritarashtra ate this food, and the heroic men ate the same food and spent the night.

यह भोजन महामनस्वी राजा धृतराष्ट्र ने खाया और वीर पुरुषों ने वही भोजन खाकर रात्रि व्यतीत की।

व्यतीतायां तु शर्वर्यां कृतपूर्वाह्णिकक्रियः भ्रातृभिः सह कौन्तेयो ददर्शाश्रममण्डलम्

When the night was over, having performed the morning rites, Kounteya, together with his brothers, saw the circle of hermitages.

जब रात्रि समाप्त हो गई, तो प्रातःकाल का अनुष्ठान करके कौन्तेय ने अपने भाइयों के साथ आश्रमों का घेरा देखा।

सान्तःपुरपरीवारः सभृत्यः सपुरोहितः यथासुखं यथोद्देशं धृतराष्ट्राभ्यनुज्ञया

With his harem, his retinue, his servants, and his family priest, with the permission of Dhritarashtra, he went to the place he had been assigned, as he pleased.

धृतराष्ट्र की अनुमति से, वह अपने अन्त:पुर, अपने अनुचर, अपने नौकरों और अपने कुल पुरोहित के साथ, अपनी इच्छानुसार, उस स्थान पर गया, जिसे उसे सौंपा गया था।

ददर्श तत्र वेदीश्च संप्रज्वलितपावकाः कृताभिषेकैर्मुनिभिर्हुताग्निभिरुपस्थिताः

There he saw sacrificial altars with fires burning, attended by sages who had performed ablutions and offered oblations into the fire.

वहां उन्होंने अग्नि से जलती हुई यज्ञ वेदियां देखीं, जिनमें ऋषिगण उपस्थित थे जिन्होंने स्नान किया था और अग्नि में आहुतियां अर्पित की थीं।

वानेयपुष्पनिकरैराज्यधूमोद्गमैरपि ब्राह्मेण वपुषा युक्ता युक्ता मुनिगणैश्च ताः

Adorned with garlands of flowers and with rising incense, Endowed with the body of Brahma and with groups of sages.

पुष्पों की मालाओं से सुशोभित, धूप उगलते हुए, ब्रह्मा के शरीर से युक्त तथा मुनियों के समूह से युक्त।

मृगयूथैरनुद्विग्नैस्तत्र तत्र समाश्रितैः अशङ्कितैः पक्षिगणैः प्रगीतैरिव च प्रभो

With herds of deer, unperturbed, resting here and there, And with flocks of birds, fearless, as if singing, O Lord,

हिरणों के झुण्ड के साथ, निश्चिन्त, इधर-उधर विश्राम करते हुए, और पक्षियों के झुंड के साथ, निर्भय, मानो गा रहे हों, हे भगवान,

केकाभिर्नीलकण्ठानां दात्यूहानां च कूजितैः कोकिलानां च कुहरैः शुभैः श्रुतिमनोहरैः

With the cries of blue-throated cuckoos and the cooing of doves, And the sweet and melodious songs of cuckoos,

नीले गले वाली कोयल की चीख और कबूतरों की कूक के साथ, और कोयल के मधुर और मधुर गीत के साथ,

प्राधीतद्विजघोषैश्च क्वचित्क्वचिदलंकृतम् फलमूलसमुद्वाहैर्महद्भिश्चोपशोभितम्

Adorned here and there with the sounds of the Vedas recited by the Brahmins, Adorned with great offerings of fruits and roots,

ब्राह्मणों द्वारा उच्चारित वेदों की ध्वनि से यत्र-तत्र सुशोभित, फलों और मूलों के महान प्रसाद से सुशोभित,

ततः स राजा प्रददौ तापसार्थमुपाहृतान् कलशान्काञ्चनान्राजंस्तथैवौदुम्बरानपि

Then the king gave the ascetics the golden pots and the udumbara pots that had been brought for them.

तब राजा ने तपस्वियों को सोने के बर्तन और उडुंबर बर्तन दिए जो उनके लिए लाए गए थे।

अजिनानि प्रवेणीश्च स्रुक्स्रुवं च महीपतिः कमण्डलूंस्तथा स्थालीः पिठराणि च भारत

The king gave away the sacrificial grass, sacrificial twigs, the sacrificial ladle and the spoon, the water-pot, the pot, and the pitcher, O descendant of Bharata.

हे भरत के वंशज, राजा ने यज्ञ की घास, यज्ञ की टहनियाँ, यज्ञ की करछुल और चम्मच, जल-कलश, लोटा और घड़ा दान कर दिया।

भाजनानि च लौहानि पात्रीश्च विविधा नृप यद्यदिच्छति यावच्च यदन्यदपि काङ्क्षितम्

And the vessels and iron pots and various dishes, O king, Whatever he desires, as much as he desires, and whatever else he desires,

और हे राजा, पात्र और लोहे के बर्तन और भाँति-भाँति के बर्तन, जो कुछ वह चाहे, जितना वह चाहे, और जो कुछ वह चाहे,

एवं स राजा धर्मात्मा परीत्याश्रममण्डलम् वसु विश्राण्य तत्सर्वं पुनरायान्महीपतिः

Thus the king, with a virtuous soul, having visited the hermitage, and having distributed all that wealth, the king returned.

इस प्रकार धर्मात्मा राजा ने आश्रम का दौरा किया और सारा धन बाँटकर राजा लौट आया।

कृताह्निकं च राजानं धृतराष्ट्रं मनीषिणम् ददर्शासीनमव्यग्रं गान्धारीसहितं तदा

He saw the wise King Dhritarashtra, who had performed his daily rites, seated and undisturbed, together with Gandhari.

उन्होंने बुद्धिमान राजा धृतराष्ट्र को, जो अपने दैनिक अनुष्ठान करते थे, गांधारी के साथ बिना किसी बाधा के बैठे हुए देखा।

मातरं चाविदूरस्थां शिष्यवत्प्रणतां स्थिताम् कुन्तीं ददर्श धर्मात्मा सततं धर्मचारिणीम्

And he saw his mother, who was standing nearby, bowing like a disciple, Kunti, who was always devoted to dharma.

और उसने अपनी माँ को देखा, जो पास ही खड़ी थी, एक शिष्या कुंती की तरह झुक रही थी, जो हमेशा धर्म के प्रति समर्पित थी।

स तमभ्यर्च्य राजानं नाम संश्राव्य चात्मनः निषीदेत्यभ्यनुज्ञातो बृस्यामुपविवेश ह

Having worshipped the king and having announced his name, he sat down on the seat after being permitted.

राजा को प्रणाम करके और अपने नाम की घोषणा करके अनुमति पाकर वह आसन पर बैठ गया।

भीमसेनादयश्चैव पाण्डवाः कौरवर्षभम् अभिवाद्योपसंगृह्य निषेदुः पार्थिवाज्ञया

And the Pāṇḍavas, Bhima-sena and the others, bowed to the bull of the Kurus and sat down, as the king commanded.

और पांडव, भीम-सेना और अन्य, राजा की आज्ञा के अनुसार कौरवों के बैल को प्रणाम करके बैठ गए।

स तैः परिवृतो राजा शुशुभेऽतीव कौरवः बिभ्रद्ब्राह्मीं श्रियं दीप्तां देवैरिव बृहस्पतिः

The king, surrounded by them, shone exceedingly, O son of Kuru, bearing the bright Brahmanical glory, like Brihaspati by the gods.

हे कुरुपुत्र, उनसे घिरा हुआ राजा अत्यंत चमक रहा था, वह देवताओं द्वारा बृहस्पति के समान उज्ज्वल ब्राह्मण तेज धारण कर रहा था।

तथा तेषूपविष्टेषु समाजग्मुर्महर्षयः शतयूपप्रभृतयः कुरुक्षेत्रनिवासिनः

And when they were seated, the great sages came there, Śatāyus and others, who lived in Kurukṣetra.

और जब वे बैठे थे, तो शतायुस और अन्य महान ऋषि, जो कुरुक्षेत्र में रहते थे, वहाँ आये।

व्यासश्च भगवान्विप्रो देवर्षिगणपूजितः वृतः शिष्यैर्महातेजा दर्शयामास तं नृपम्

And the revered Vyasa, the brahmin, worshipped by the hosts of celestial sages, surrounded by his disciples, the greatly radiant one, showed him to the king.

और दिव्य ऋषियों के समूह द्वारा पूजे जाने वाले, अपने शिष्यों से घिरे हुए, परम तेजस्वी, श्रद्धेय व्यास ब्राह्मण ने उसे राजा को दिखाया।

ततः स राजा कौरव्यः कुन्तीपुत्रश्च वीर्यवान् भीमसेनादयश्चैव समुत्थायाभ्यपूजयन्

Then the king, the son of Kunti, the valiant one, and Bhimasena and the others, having risen, worshipped him.

तब वीर कुन्तीपुत्र राजा तथा भीमसेन आदि ने उठकर उन्हें दण्डवत् किया।

समागतस्ततो व्यासः शतयूपादिभिर्वृतः धृतराष्ट्रं महीपालमास्यतामित्यभाषत

Then Vyasa, surrounded by Shatayupa and others, came there and said to King Dhritarashtra, "Please sit down."

तब व्यास, शतयुप और अन्य लोगों से घिरे हुए, वहाँ आए और राजा धृतराष्ट्र से बोले, "कृपया बैठिए।"

नवं तु विष्टरं कौश्यं कृष्णाजिनकुशोत्तरम् प्रतिपेदे तदा व्यासस्तदर्थमुपकल्पितम्

He then took up a new woolen mat, with a black antelope skin and kuśa grass spread over it, which had been prepared for him.

फिर उसने एक नई ऊनी चटाई उठाई, जिस पर काले मृग की खाल और कुश घास बिछी हुई थी, जो उसके लिए तैयार की गई थी।

ते च सर्वे द्विजश्रेष्ठा विष्टरेषु समन्ततः द्वैपायनाभ्यनुज्ञाता निषेदुर्विपुलौजसः

And all those best of Brahmins, in every direction, on the seats, with the permission of Dvaipāyana, sat down, of great prowess.

और वे सभी श्रेष्ठ ब्राह्मण द्वैपायन की अनुमति से, सभी दिशाओं में, आसन पर, महान पराक्रमी, बैठ गए।
