गान्धार्युवाच पश्य माधव पुत्रान्मे शतसंख्याञ्जितक्लमान् गदया भीमसेनेन भूयिष्ठं निहतान्रणे

Gāndhārī said, "O Mādhava! Look at my one hundred sons. They were never exhausted in a battle. In the battle, most of them were killed by Bhīmasena's club.

गांधारी ने कहा, "हे माधव! मेरे एक सौ पुत्रों को देखो। वे युद्ध में कभी थकते नहीं थे। युद्ध में उनमें से अधिकांश भीमसेन की गदा से मारे गए थे।"

इदं दुःखतरं मेऽद्य यदिमा मुक्तमूर्धजाः हतपुत्रा रणे बालाः परिधावन्ति मे स्नुषाः

But there is something that is causing a greater grief to me now. With their sons slain, my young daughters-in-law are running around with dishevelled hair.

लेकिन कुछ ऐसा है जो अब मुझे और भी अधिक दुःख पहुंचा रहा है। अपने बेटों के मारे जाने के बाद, मेरी जवान बहुएँ बिखरे बालों के साथ इधर-उधर घूम रही हैं।

प्रासादतलचारिण्यश्चरणैर्भूषणान्वितैः आपन्ना यत्स्पृशन्तीमा रुधिरार्द्रां वसुंधराम्

Their ornamented feet used to roam around on the terraces of palaces earlier and must touch the ground, wet with blood, now.

उनके अलंकृत पैर पहले महलों की छतों पर घूमते थे और अब खून से लथपथ होकर जमीन को छूते होंगे।

गृध्रानुत्सारयन्त्यश्च गोमायून्वायसांस्तथा शोकेनार्ता विघूर्णन्त्यो मत्ता इव चरन्त्युत

As they are whirling and roaming around, crazy and tormented by grief, they are scattering vultures, jackals and crows.

वे पागल और दुःख से पीड़ित होकर इधर-उधर घूम रहे हैं, वे गिद्धों, सियारों और कौवों को तितर-बितर कर रहे हैं।

एषान्या त्वनवद्याङ्गी करसंमितमध्यमा घोरं तद्वैशसं दृष्ट्वा निपतत्यतिदुःखिता

There is another one there, unblemished in her limbs. Her waist can be encircled by the hands. On seeing this terrible sight, she is miserable and has fallen down.

वहाँ एक और भी है, उसके अंगों में कोई दाग नहीं है। उसकी कमर को हाथों से घेरा जा सकता है. यह भयानक दृश्य देखकर वह दुःखी होकर गिर पड़ी है।

दृष्ट्वा मे पार्थिवसुतामेतां लक्ष्मणमातरम् राजपुत्रीं महाबाहो मनो न व्युपशाम्यति

O mighty-armed one! My mind can no longer find peace after I have seen the princess, Lakṣmaṇa's mother, the daughter of a king.

हे महाबाहु! जब से मैंने राजकुमारी, लक्ष्मण की माँ, एक राजा की बेटी को देखा है, मेरे मन को अब शांति नहीं मिल रही है।

भ्रातॄंश्चान्याः पतींश्चान्याः पुत्रांश्च निहतान्भुवि दृष्ट्वा परिपतन्त्येताः प्रगृह्य सुभुजा भुजान्

Some see their brothers, others see their husbands and sons slain, lying down on the ground. On seeing that they have fallen down, they are grasping their arms with their own beautiful arms.

कुछ लोग अपने भाइयों को देखते हैं, कुछ लोग अपने पतियों और पुत्रों को जमीन पर गिरे हुए देखते हैं। यह देखकर कि वे गिरे हुए हैं, वे अपनी सुन्दर भुजाओं से उनकी भुजाओं को पकड़ रहे हैं।

मध्यमानां तु नारीणां वृद्धानां चापराजित आक्रन्दं हतबन्धूनां दारुणे वैशसे शृणु

O unvanquished one! There are middle-aged women and aged ones. With their relatives killed in the terrible clash, they are weeping. Listen.

हे अपराजित! इनमें अधेड़ उम्र की महिलाएं और वृद्ध भी हैं। भयानक झड़प में मारे गए अपने रिश्तेदारों के साथ वे रो रहे हैं। सुनना।

रथनीडानि देहांश्च हतानां गजवाजिनाम् आश्रिताः श्रममोहार्ताः स्थिताः पश्य महाबल

O immensely strong one! Exhausted and confused, they are clinging onto the seats of chariots and the slain bodies of elephants and horses.

हे अत्यंत बलशाली! थके हुए और भ्रमित होकर, वे रथों की सीटों और हाथियों और घोड़ों के मारे गए शवों से चिपके हुए हैं।

अन्या चापहृतं कायाच्चारुकुण्डलमुन्नसम् स्वस्य बन्धोः शिरः कृष्ण गृहीत्वा पश्य तिष्ठति

O Kṛṣṇā! Behold. There is another one who has picked up the head of her relative, severed from his body. It is beautiful, has an excellent nose and is decorated with earrings.

हे कृष्ण! देखो. एक और है जो अपने रिश्तेदार का सिर धड़ से अलग कर उठा लाई है. वह सुंदर है, उसकी नाक उत्कृष्ट है और वह बालियों से सुसज्जित है।

पूर्वजातिकृतं पापं मन्ये नाल्पमिवानघ एताभिरनवद्याभिर्मया चैवाल्पमेधया

O unblemished one! I think that their crimes in their earlier lives must have been severe. And I, possessing limited intelligence, must have done the same as well.

हे निष्कलंक! मुझे लगता है कि उनके पिछले जीवन में उनके अपराध गंभीर रहे होंगे। और सीमित बुद्धि होने के कारण मैंने भी ऐसा ही किया होगा।

तदिदं धर्मराजेन यातितं नो जनार्दन न हि नाशोऽस्ति वार्ष्णेय कर्मणोः शुभपापयोः

O Janārdana! That is the reason we are being repaid by Dharmarāja. O Vārṣṇeya! Good and evil deeds can never be destroyed.

हे जनार्दन! यही कारण है कि हमें धर्मराज द्वारा प्रतिफल दिया जा रहा है। हे वार्ष्णेय! अच्छे और बुरे कर्म कभी नष्ट नहीं होते।

प्रत्यग्रवयसः पश्य दर्शनीयकुचोदराः कुलेषु जाता ह्रीमत्यः कृष्णपक्षाक्षिमूर्धजाः

O Kṛṣṇā! Look at them. They are in the best of ages. They possess beautiful breasts and stomachs. They have been born in noble lineages. They are modest. Their eyelashes, eyes and hair are dark.

हे कृष्ण! उन्हें देखें। वे सर्वोत्तम युग में हैं। उनके सुंदर स्तन और पेट होते हैं। इनका जन्म कुलीन वंश में हुआ है। वे विनम्र हैं. उनकी पलकें, आंखें और बाल काले हैं।

हंसगद्गदभाषिण्यो दुःखशोकप्रमोहिताः सारस्य इव वाशन्त्यः पतिताः पश्य माधव

Confused by sorrow and grief, they are gaggling like a gaggle of geese. O Mādhava! They are shrieking like cranes and are falling down.

वे दु:ख और शोक से भ्रमित होकर कलहंस के झुण्ड की भाँति बड़बड़ा रहे हैं। हे माधव! वे बगुले की तरह चिल्ला रहे हैं और नीचे गिर रहे हैं।

फुल्लपद्मप्रकाशानि पुण्डरीकाक्ष योषिताम् अनवद्यानि वक्त्राणि तपत्यसुखरश्मिवान्

O Puṇḍarīkākṣa! The faces of these women are like blooming lotuses. Their faces are perfect and the sun's sharp rays are hurting them.

हे पुण्डरीकाक्ष! इन महिलाओं के चेहरे खिले हुए कमल के समान हैं। उनके चेहरे एकदम सही हैं और सूरज की तेज़ किरणें उन्हें नुकसान पहुंचा रही हैं.

ईर्षूणां मम पुत्राणां वासुदेवावरोधनम् मत्तमातङ्गदर्पाणां पश्यन्त्यद्य पृथग्जनाः

O Vāsudeva! My sons were as proud as crazy elephants, and jealous. Ordinary men are now looking at the women from the inner quarters.

हे वासुदेव! मेरे बेटे पागल हाथियों की तरह घमंडी और ईर्ष्यालु थे। सामान्य पुरुष अब महिलाओं को अंदर से देखने लगे हैं।

शतचन्द्राणि चर्माणि ध्वजांश्चादित्यसंनिभान् रौक्माणि चैव वर्माणि निष्कानपि च काञ्चनान्

The shields are marked with the signs of one hundred moons. The standards have the complexion of the sun. The armour is golden. The breast-plates are made out of gold.

ढालें ​​एक सौ चंद्रमाओं के चिन्हों से अंकित हैं। मानकों का रंग सूर्य के समान है। कवच सुनहरा है. ब्रेस्ट-प्लेटें सोने से बनी हैं।

शीर्षत्राणानि चैतानि पुत्राणां मे महीतले पश्य दीप्तानि गोविन्द पावकान्सुहुतानिव

O Govinda! Behold the blazing helmets of my sons as they lie down on the ground. They are like fires into which oblations have been offered.

हे गोविंद! मेरे पुत्रों के धधकते टोपों को देखो, जैसे वे भूमि पर लेटे हुए हैं। वे आग की तरह हैं जिसमें आहुति दी गई है।

एष दुःशासनः शेते शूरेणामित्रघातिना पीतशोणितसर्वाङ्गो भीमसेनेन पातितः

Duḥśāsana is lying down here, brought down by the brave Bhīmasena, the slayer of enemies, with a club that killed heroes. His limbs are drenched with the blood that has been drunk.

दु:शासन यहाँ लेटा हुआ है, जिसे शत्रुओं का संहार करने वाले वीर भीमसेन ने वीरों को मारने वाली गदा से नीचे गिरा दिया है। उसके अंग-प्रत्यंग पीये हुए रक्त से भीग गये हैं।

गदया वीरघातिन्या पश्य माधव मे सुतम् द्यूतक्लेशाननुस्मृत्य द्रौपद्या चोदितेन च

O Mādhava! At the time when Draupadī was afflicted by the gambling, she had urged him on and he remembered that.

हे माधव! जिस समय द्रौपदी जुए से पीड़ित थी, तब उसने उनसे आग्रह किया था और उन्हें वह बात याद आ गई।

उक्ता ह्यनेन पाञ्चाली सभायां द्यूतनिर्जिता प्रियं चिकीर्षता भ्रातुः कर्णस्य च जनार्दन

O Janārdana! To please his brother and Karṇa, when Pāñcālī was won over by the dice in the assembly hall, he had spoken harsh words to her

हे जनार्दन! अपने भाई और कर्ण को प्रसन्न करने के लिए, जब पंचाली को सभा कक्ष में पासों से जीत लिया गया था, तब उसने उससे कठोर शब्द कहे थे।

सहैव सहदेवेन नकुलेनार्जुनेन च दासभार्यासि पाञ्चालि क्षिप्रं प्रविश नो गृहान्

and to Sahadeva, Nākula and Arjuna. "O Pāñcālī! You are our servant and our wife. Quickly enter our house."

और सहदेव, नकुल और अर्जुन को। "हे पांचाली! तुम हमारी नौकरानी और हमारी पत्नी हो। जल्दी से हमारे घर में प्रवेश करो।"

ततोऽहमब्रुवं कृष्ण तदा दुर्योधनं नृपम् मृत्युपाशपरिक्षिप्तं शकुनिं पुत्र वर्जय

O Kṛṣṇā! At that time, I had spoken to King Duryodhana. "O son! Śākuni has been grasped by the noose of death. Abandon him.

हे कृष्ण! उस समय मेरी राजा दुर्योधन से बात हुई थी. "हे पुत्र! शकुनि को मृत्यु के फंदे ने जकड़ लिया है। उसे त्याग दो।"

निबोधैनं सुदुर्बुद्धिं मातुलं कलहप्रियम् क्षिप्रमेनं परित्यज्य पुत्र शाम्यस्व पाण्डवैः

O extremely stupid one! Understand that your maternal uncle loves a conflict. O son! Swiftly abandon him and make peace with the Pāṇḍava-s.

हे अत्यंत मूर्ख! समझें कि आपके मामा को झगड़ा पसंद है। हे वत्स शीघ्र ही उसे त्याग दो और पांडवों के साथ शांति स्थापित कर लो।

न बुध्यसे त्वं दुर्बुद्धे भीमसेनममर्षणम् वाङ्नाराचैस्तुदंस्तीक्ष्णैरुल्काभिरिव कुञ्जरम्

O extremely stupid one! You do not comprehend. Bhīmasena is intolerant. The sharp words that you have spoken are like inflicting iron arrows and flaming torches on an elephant."

हे अत्यंत मूर्ख! तुम्हें समझ नहीं आता. भीमसेन असहिष्णु हैं. आपने जो तीखे शब्द कहे हैं, वे हाथी पर लोहे के तीर और जलती हुई मशालें चलाने के समान हैं।”

तानेष रभसः क्रूरो वाक्शल्यानवधारयन् उत्ससर्ज विषं तेषु सर्पो गोवृषभेष्विव

However, he was cruel and proud and struck with words that were like stakes. He released his poison, like a snake towards bulls.

Duḥśāsana is lying down here, stretching out his arms. He has been killed by Bhīmasena, like a giant bull by a lion.

यहाँ दुःशासन अपनी भुजाएँ फैलाकर लेटा हुआ है। उसे भीमसेन ने उसी प्रकार मार डाला है, जैसे एक विशाल बैल को सिंह ने।

अत्यर्थमकरोद्रौद्रं भीमसेनोऽत्यमर्षणः दुःशासनस्य यत्क्रुद्धोऽपिबच्छोणितमाहवे

Bhīmasena was extremely intolerant and did something that was extremely gruesome. In the battle, he angrily drank Duḥśāsana's blood."
