गान्धार्युवाच एष वैकर्तनः शेते महेष्वासो महारथः ज्वलितानलवत्संख्ये संशान्तः पार्थतेजसा

Gāndhārī said, "This Vaikartaṇa was a mahāratha and great archer. He is lying down in the battle, as if a blazing fire has been pacified through Pārtha's energy.

गांधारी ने कहा, "यह वैकर्तन एक महारथ और महान धनुर्धर था। वह युद्ध में लेटा हुआ है, जैसे कि पार्थ की ऊर्जा से धधकती हुई आग शांत हो गई हो।"

पश्य वैकर्तनं कर्णं निहत्यातिरथान्बहून् शोणितौघपरीताङ्गं शयानं पतितं भुवि

Behold Vaikartaṇa Karṇa. He was one who slew many atiratha-s. However, he has been brought down and is lying down on the ground, his limbs covered with blood.

वैकर्तन कर्ण को देखो। वह एक ऐसा व्यक्ति था जिसने कई अतिरथों को मार डाला। हालाँकि, उसे नीचे लाया गया है और वह जमीन पर पड़ा हुआ है, उसके अंग खून से लथपथ हैं।

अमर्षी दीर्घरोषश्च महेष्वासो महारथः रणे विनिहतः शेते शूरो गाण्डीवधन्वना

The great archer and mahāratha harboured an enmity for a long time and was intolerant. The brave one has been slain in the battle by the wielder of Gāṇḍīva and is lying down.

महान धनुर्धर और महारथ के मन में लंबे समय से शत्रुता थी और वह असहिष्णु थे। वह वीर युद्ध में गाण्डीवधारी द्वारा मारा गया है और पड़ा हुआ है।

यं स्म पाण्डवसंत्रासान्मम पुत्रा महारथाः प्रायुध्यन्त पुरस्कृत्य मातङ्गा इव यूथपम्

When my mahāratha sons fought with the Pāṇḍava-s and terrified them, they placed him at their head, like elephants with a leader of the herd.

जब मेरे महारथी पुत्रों ने पाण्डवों से युद्ध किया और उन्हें भयभीत कर दिया, तो उन्होंने उसे अपने सिर पर उसी प्रकार रखा, जैसे हाथियों को झुंड के नेता के साथ।

शार्दूलमिव सिंहेन समरे सव्यसाचिना मातङ्गमिव मत्तेन मातङ्गेन निपातितम्

He was like a tiger in the battle, against the lion Savyasachi. He has been brought down, like an elephant by a crazy elephant.

वह सिंह सव्यसाची के विरुद्ध युद्ध में एक बाघ की तरह था। उसे किसी पागल हाथी की तरह नीचे गिरा दिया गया है।

समेताः पुरुषव्याघ्र निहतं शूरमाहवे प्रकीर्णमूर्धजाः पत्न्यो रुदत्यः पर्युपासते

O tiger among men! When that brave one has been killed in the battle, his wives have assembled and have surrounded him, with their hair dishevelled. They are weeping.

हे मनुष्यों में बाघ! जब वह वीर युद्ध में मारा गया तो उसकी पत्नियाँ एकत्रित हो गयीं और अपने केश बिखेर कर उसे घेर लिया। वे रो रहे हैं.

उद्विग्नः सततं यस्माद्धर्मराजो युधिष्ठिरः त्रयोदश समा निद्रां चिन्तयन्नाध्यगच्छत

Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira was always anxious about him. Because of his worry, he could not sleep for thirteen years.

धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर सदैव उनके लिये चिंतित रहते थे। अपनी चिंता के कारण वह तेरह वर्षों तक सो नहीं सका।

अनाधृष्यः परैर्युद्धे शत्रुभिर्मघवानिव युगान्ताग्निरिवार्चिष्मान्हिमवानिव च स्थिरः

The enemy could not assail him in a battle, like foes against Maghavan. His heat was like that of the fire at the time of the destruction of a yuga. He was as steady as the Himālaya-s.

युद्ध में शत्रु उस पर आक्रमण नहीं कर सका, जैसा कि मघावन के विरुद्ध शत्रु करते थे। उसका ताप युग के विनाश के समय की अग्नि के समान था। वे हिमालय के समान स्थिर थे।

स भूत्वा शरणं वीरो धार्तराष्ट्रस्य माधव भूमौ विनिहतः शेते वातरुग्ण इव द्रुमः

O Mādhava! The brave one was the refuge for Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son. He has been slain and is lying down on the ground, like a tree shattered by a storm.

हे माधव! वह वीर धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्र का आश्रय था। वह मारा गया है और आँधी से टूटे हुए वृक्ष की भाँति भूमि पर पड़ा हुआ है।

पश्य कर्णस्य पत्नीं त्वं वृषसेनस्य मातरम् लालप्यमानाः करुणं रुदतीं पतितां भुवि

Behold Karṇa's wife, Vṛṣasena's mother. She has fallen down on the ground and is lamenting and weeping in piteous tones.

कर्ण की पत्नी, वृषसेन की माँ को देखो। वह भूमि पर गिरकर करुण स्वर में विलाप और विलाप कर रही है।

आचार्यशापोऽनुगतो ध्रुवं त्वां; यदग्रसच्चक्रमियं धरा ते ततः शरेणापहृतं शिरस्ते; धनंजयेनाहवे शत्रुमध्ये

"It is certain that the preceptor's curse followed you. That is the reason the earth swallowed up the wheel of your chariot. Then, in the midst of the enemy in the battle, Dhanañjayā's arrow severed your head."

"यह निश्चित है कि गुरु के शाप ने तुम्हारा पीछा किया। यही कारण है कि पृथ्वी ने तुम्हारे रथ के पहिये को निगल लिया। तब, युद्ध में शत्रु के बीच में, धनंजय के बाण ने तुम्हारा सिर काट दिया।"

अहो धिगेषा पतिता विसंज्ञा; समीक्ष्य जाम्बूनदबद्धनिष्कम् कर्णं महाबाहुमदीनसत्त्वं; सुषेणमाता रुदती भृशार्ता

Āla-s! Shame! When Suṣeṇa's mother has seen the mighty-armed Karṇa, with gold-decorated armour plates and who was never dispirited, she has fallen down, senseless. She is extremely miserable and is weeping.

इला-स! शर्म करो! जब सुषेण की माता ने सोने से सुसज्जित कवचधारी, कभी निराश न होने वाले महाबाहु कर्ण को देखा, तो वह मूर्छित होकर गिर पड़ी। वह बेहद दुखी है और रो रही है.

अल्पावशेषो हि कृतो महात्मा; शरीरभक्षैः परिभक्षयद्भिः द्रष्टुं न संप्रीतिकरः शशीव; कृष्णश्य पक्षस्य चतुर्दशाहे

There is little left of the great-souled one. The predatory beasts have devoured his body. It is not a pleasant sight and is inauspicious, like the moon on the fourteenth day of kṛṣṇapakṣa.

उस महानात्मा का बहुत कम अंश बचा है। हिंसक जानवरों ने उसके शव को नोच खाया है। यह कृष्णपक्ष के चौदहवें दिन के चंद्रमा की तरह सुखद और अशुभ दृश्य नहीं है।

सावर्तमाना पतिता पृथिव्या;मुत्थाय दीना पुनरेव चैषा कर्णस्य वक्त्रं परिजिघ्रमाणा; रोरूयते पुत्रवधाभितप्ता

She is writhing on the ground, where she has fallen. She is distressed and has arisen again. She is inhaling the fragrance of Karṇa's face. Tormented because her sons have been killed, she is weeping."

वह जमीन पर गिरकर छटपटा रही है. वह व्यथित है और फिर से उठ खड़ी हुई है. वह कर्ण के चेहरे की सुगंध ले रही है। वह अपने बेटों के मारे जाने से दुखी होकर रो रही है।"
