गान्धार्युवाच काम्बोजं पश्य दुर्धर्षं काम्बोजास्तरणोचितम् शयानमृषभस्कन्धं हतं पांसुशु माधव

Gāndhārī said, "Look at the invincible Kāmboja, who was like a covering for Kāmboja. O Mādhava! He possessed shoulders like a bull. He has been slain and is lying down in the dust.

गांधारी ने कहा, "अजेय कंबोज को देखो, जो कंबोज के लिए एक आवरण की तरह था। हे माधव! उसके कंधे बैल की तरह थे। वह मारा गया है और धूल में पड़ा हुआ है।"

यस्य क्षतजसंदिग्धौ बाहू चन्दनरूषितौ अवेक्ष्य कृपणं भार्या विलपत्यतिदुःखिता

His arms used to be smeared with sandalwood paste and are covered with blood now. When his miserable wife saw them, she lamented in grief.

उनकी भुजाएँ पहले चन्दन से सजी हुई थीं और अब रक्त से लथपथ हैं। जब उसकी दुखी पत्नी ने उन्हें देखा, तो वह दुःख से विलाप करने लगी।

इमौ तौ परिघप्रख्यौ बाहू शुभतलाङ्गुली ययोर्विवरमापन्नां न रतिर्मां पुराजहत्

"These arms were as thick as clubs. They possessed auspicious palms and fingers. When I was in their embrace, I used to be full of desire.

"ये भुजाएँ गदाओं के समान मोटी थीं। उनके पास शुभ हथेलियाँ और उंगलियाँ थीं। जब मैं उनके आलिंगन में था, तो मैं इच्छा से भर जाता था।

कां गतिं नु गमिष्यामि त्वया हीना जनेश्वर दूरबन्धुरनाथेव अतीव मधुरस्वरा

O lord of men! Without you, what will be my end now?" Her relatives are far away and she is without a protector. Her voice is exceedingly melodious.

हे मनुष्यों के स्वामी! तुम्हारे बिना, अब मेरा अंत क्या होगा?" उसके रिश्तेदार दूर हैं और वह बिना किसी रक्षक के है। उसकी आवाज़ बेहद सुरीली है।

आतपे क्लाम्यमानानां विविधानामिव स्रजाम् क्लान्तानामपि नारीणां न श्रीर्जहति वै तनुम्

Even when they are scorched by heat, the beauty of many kinds of garlands does not vanish. In that way, though these women are exhausted, beauty has not abandoned their bodies.

गर्मी से झुलसने पर भी अनेक प्रकार की मालाओं की शोभा नष्ट नहीं होती। इस तरह, हालांकि ये महिलाएं थक चुकी हैं, लेकिन सुंदरता ने उनके शरीर का साथ नहीं छोड़ा है।

शयानमभितः शूरं कालिङ्गं मधुसूदन पश्य दीप्ताङ्गदयुगप्रतिबद्धमहाभुजम्

O Madhusūdana! The brave king of Kāliṅga is lying down. Look at his immensely large arms, encased in blazing armlets.

हे मधुसूदन! कलिंग का वीर राजा लेटा हुआ है। उसकी अत्यंत विशाल भुजाओं को देखो, जो धधकते हुए बाजूबंदों में बंद हैं।

मागधानामधिपतिं जयत्सेनं जनार्दन परिवार्य प्ररुदिता मागध्यः पश्य योषितः

O Janārdana! Jayatsenā was the lord of Māgadha. Look at him. He is surrounded by the weeping women from Māgadha.

हे जनार्दन! जयत्सेन मगध का स्वामी था। उसे देखो. वह मगध की रोती हुई महिलाओं से घिरा हुआ है।

आसामायतनेत्राणां सुस्वराणां जनार्दन मनःश्रुतिहरो नादो मनो मोहयतीव मे

O Janārdana! They possess long eyes and excellent voices. Their lamentations are pleasant to hear and are confounding my mind.

हे जनार्दन! इनकी आंखें लंबी और आवाज बहुत अच्छी होती है। उनका विलाप सुनने में अच्छा लगता है और मेरे मन को व्याकुल कर रहा है।

प्रकीर्णसर्वाभरणा रुदन्त्यः शोककर्शिताः स्वास्तीर्णशयनोपेता मागध्यः शेरते भुवि

They have thrown away all their ornaments. They are weeping, oppressed by grief. Each of the women from Māgadha possessed her own bed. But they are lying down on the ground.

उन्होंने अपने सारे गहने फेंक दिये हैं. वे दुःख से पीड़ित होकर रो रहे हैं। मगध की प्रत्येक महिला के पास अपना बिस्तर था। लेकिन वे जमीन पर लेटे हुए हैं.

कोसलानामधिपतिं राजपुत्रं बृहद्बलम् भर्तारं परिवार्यैताः पृथक्प्ररुदिताः स्त्रियः

Bṛhadbala was the prince and lord of Kosalā. He has been separately surrounded by these women, who are weeping over their husband.

बृहदबल कोसल के राजकुमार और स्वामी थे। वह अलग से इन महिलाओं से घिरा हुआ है, जो अपने पति के लिए रो रही हैं।

अस्य गात्रगतान्बाणान्कार्ष्णिबाहुबलार्पितान् उद्धरन्त्यसुखाविष्टा मूर्छमानाः पुनः पुनः

The arrows of Kṛṣṇā's son were struck with the strength of his arms and they are plucking them out from his body. As they are doing this, they are miserable and are repeatedly losing their senses.

कृष्ण के पुत्र के बाण उनकी भुजाओं के बल से लगे हैं और वे उन्हें उनके शरीर से बाहर निकाल रहे हैं। ऐसा करने से वे दुखी हो रहे हैं और बार-बार अपनी सुध-बुध खो रहे हैं।

आसां सर्वानवद्यानामातपेन परिश्रमात् प्रम्लाननलिनाभानि भान्ति वक्त्राणि माधव

O Mādhava! All of them are overcome by the heat and the exhaustion. Their faces are as beautiful as wilting lotuses.

हे माधव! वे सभी गर्मी और थकावट से त्रस्त हैं। उनके मुख मुरझाये हुए कमल के समान सुन्दर हैं।

द्रोणेन निहताः शूराः शेरते रुचिराङ्गदाः द्रोणेनाभिमुखाः सर्वे भ्रातरः पञ्च केकयाः

All the five brave brothers from Kekaya were slain by Droṇa. They are lying down, wearing beautiful armlets. They were headed towards Droṇa.

केकय के सभी पाँच वीर भाई द्रोण द्वारा मारे गये। वे सुंदर बाजूबंद पहने हुए लेटे हुए हैं। वे द्रोण की ओर जा रहे थे।

तप्तकाञ्चनवर्माणस्ताम्रध्वजरथस्रजः भासयन्ति महीं भासा ज्वलिता इव पावकाः

Their armour was made out of molten gold. Their standards, chariots and garlands were coppery in hue. They are illuminating the ground, like blazing and radiant fires.

उनका कवच पिघले हुए सोने से बना था। उनके झंडे, रथ और मालाएँ तांबे के रंग की थीं। वे धधकती और दीप्तिमान आग की तरह, ज़मीन को रोशन कर रहे हैं।

द्रोणेन द्रुपदं संख्ये पश्य माधव पातितम् महाद्विपमिवारण्ये सिंहेन महता हतम्

O Mādhava! Look. Drupada was brought down by Droṇa in the battle. He was like a giant elephant, slain in the forest by a giant lion.

हे माधव! देखना। युद्ध में द्रोण द्वारा द्रुपद को मार गिराया गया। वह एक विशाल हाथी की तरह था, जिसे जंगल में एक विशाल शेर ने मार डाला था।

पाञ्चालराज्ञो विपुलं पुण्डरीकाक्ष पाण्डुरम् आतपत्रं समाभाति शरदीव दिवाकरः

O Puṇḍarīkākṣa! The king of Pāñcāla's umbrella is large and pale. It is shining, like the sun in the autumn sky.

हे पुण्डरीकाक्ष! पंचाल के राजा का छत्र बड़ा और पीला है। यह चमक रहा है, जैसे शरद ऋतु के आकाश में सूरज।

एतास्तु द्रुपदं वृद्धं स्नुषा भार्याश्च दुःखिताः दग्ध्वा गच्छन्ति पाञ्चाल्यं राजानमपसव्यतः

The wives and daughters-in-law of the aged Drupada are miserable. Having burnt the king of Pāñcāla, they are circumambulating him, keeping him to the right.

वृद्ध द्रुपद की पत्नियाँ और बहुएँ दुःखी हैं। वे पंचाल के राजा को जलाकर दाहिनी ओर रखकर उसकी प्रदक्षिणा कर रहे हैं।

धृष्टकेतुं महेष्वासं चेदिपुंगवमङ्गनाः द्रोणेन निहतं शूरं हरन्ति हृतचेतसः

The great archer, Dhṛṣṭaketu, was a bull among the Cedi-s. The brave one was killed by Droṇa. Bereft of their senses, the women have moved him.

महान धनुर्धर, धृष्टकेतु, सेडिस के बीच एक बैल था। उस वीर को द्रोण ने मार डाला। अपनी संवेदनाओं से रहित होकर, महिलाओं ने उसे द्रवित कर दिया है।

द्रोणास्त्रमभिहत्यैष विमर्दे मधुसूदन महेष्वासो हतः शेते नद्या हृत इव द्रुमः

O Madhusūdana! Having countered Droṇa's weapons, the great archer was crushed. He has been slain and is lying down, like a tree brought down by a river.

हे मधुसूदन! द्रोण के अस्त्रों का मुकाबला करके महान धनुर्धर धराशायी हो गया। वह मारा गया है और नदी द्वारा गिराये गये वृक्ष की भाँति पड़ा हुआ है।

एष चेदिपतिः शूरो धृष्टकेतुर्महारथः शेते विनिहतः संख्ये हत्वा शत्रून्सहस्रशः

The brave mahāratha, Dhṛṣṭaketu, was the lord of Cedi. Having slain thousands of enemy in the battle, he has been slain and is lying down.

वीर महारथ, धृष्टकेतु, सेदि के स्वामी थे। युद्ध में हजारों शत्रुओं को मारकर वह मारा गया है और लेटा हुआ है।

वितुद्यमानं विहगैस्तं भार्याः प्रत्युपस्थिताः चेदिराजं हृषीकेश हतं सबलबान्धवम्

The birds are tugging at him and his wives are tending to him. O Hṛṣīkeśa! The king of Cedi has been slain, with his forces and his relatives.

पक्षी उसे नोंच रहे हैं और उसकी पत्नियाँ उसकी देखभाल कर रही हैं। हे हृषीकेश! सेडी का राजा अपनी सेना और रिश्तेदारों सहित मारा गया है।

दाशार्हीपुत्रजं वीरं शयानं सत्यविक्रमम् आरोप्याङ्के रुदन्त्येताश्चेदिराजवराङ्गनाः

Truth was his valour and the brave son of the daughter of Dāśārha is lying down. The beautiful women have placed the king of Cedi on their laps and are weeping.

सत्य उनकी वीरता थी और दशार्ह की पुत्री का वीर पुत्र लेटा हुआ है। खूबसूरत महिलाओं ने सेडी के राजा को अपनी गोद में बिठा लिया है और रो रही हैं।

अस्य पुत्रं हृषीकेश सुवक्त्रं चारुकुण्डलम् द्रोणेन समरे पश्य निकृत्तं बहुधा शरैः

O Hṛṣīkeśa! His son has an excellent face and beautiful earrings. Look at him. He has been mangled by Droṇa with many arrows in the battle.

हे हृषीकेश! उनके बेटे का चेहरा शानदार है और कानों में खूबसूरत बालियां हैं। उसे देखो. युद्ध में द्रोण ने अनेक बाणों से उसे घायल कर दिया है।

पितरं नूनमाजिस्थं युध्यमानं परैः सह नाजहात्पृष्ठतो वीरमद्यापि मधुसूदन

As long as his father was fighting with the enemy, it is certain that he did not abandon him. O Madhusūdana! He has never moved from that brave one's rear.

जब तक उनके पिता शत्रु से लड़ते रहे, यह निश्चित है कि उन्होंने उनका साथ नहीं छोड़ा। हे मधुसूदन! वह उस वीर के पीछे से कभी नहीं हटा।

एवं ममापि पुत्रस्य पुत्रः पितरमन्वगात् दुर्योधनं महाबाहो लक्ष्मणः परवीरहा

O mighty-armed one! In that way, my son's son, Lakṣmaṇa, the destroyer of enemy heroes, followed his father Duryodhana.

हे महाबाहु! इस प्रकार शत्रुवीरों का संहार करने वाले मेरे पुत्र लक्ष्मण ने अपने पिता दुर्योधन का अनुसरण किया।

विन्दानुविन्दावावन्त्यौ पतितौ पश्य माधव हिमान्ते पुष्पितौ शालौ मरुता गलिताविव

O Mādhava! Look at Vinda and Anuvinda from Avanti. They have fallen down. They are like flowering śala trees, destroyed by a storm at the end of winter.

हे माधव! अवंती से विंदा और अनुविंदा को देखें। वे नीचे गिर गये हैं. वे पुष्पित शाल वृक्षों के समान हैं, जो शीत ऋतु के अंत में तूफान से नष्ट हो जाते हैं।

काञ्चनाङ्गदवर्माणौ बाणखड्गधनुर्धरौ ऋषभप्रतिरूपाक्षौ शयानौ विमलस्रजौ

Their armlets and armour are golden. They wield arrows, swords and bows. Their eyes are like those of bulls. They are lying down, with unblemished garlands.

उनके बाजूबंद और कवच सुनहरे हैं. वे तीर, तलवार और धनुष चलाते हैं। उनकी आंखें बैल जैसी हैं. वे लेटे हुए हैं, निष्कलंक माला लिये हुए।

अवध्याः पाण्डवाः कृष्ण सर्व एव त्वया सह ये मुक्ता द्रोणभीष्माभ्यां कर्णाद्वैकर्तनात्कृपात्

All the Pāṇḍava-s, together with you, cannot be killed. They were freed from Droṇa, Bhīṣma, Vaikartaṇa, Kṛpa,

तुम्हारे सहित समस्त पाण्डवों को नहीं मारा जा सकता। वे द्रोण, भीष्म, वैकर्तन, कृप, से मुक्त हो गए।

दुर्योधनाद्द्रोणसुतात्सैन्धवाच्च महारथात् सोमदत्ताद्विकर्णाच्च शूराच्च कृतवर्मणः ये हन्युः शस्त्रवेगेन देवानपि नरर्षभाः

Duryodhana, Droṇa's son, mahāratha Saindhava, Somadatta, Vikarṇa and the brave Kritavarma. Those bulls among men could have slain even the gods with the force of their weapons.

दुर्योधन, द्रोण के पुत्र, महारथ सैंधव, सोमदत्त, विकर्ण और बहादुर कृतवर्मा। वे मनुष्य बैल अपने शस्त्रों के बल से देवताओं को भी मार सकते थे।

त इमे निहताः संख्ये पश्य कालस्य पर्ययम् नातिभारोऽस्ति दैवस्य ध्रुवं माधव कश्चन यदिमे निहताः शूराः क्षत्रियैः क्षत्रियर्षभाः

However, they have been killed in the battle. Behold the progress of time. O Mādhava! It is certain that there is no burden that is too heavy for destiny, since these brave ones, bulls among kṣatriya-s, have been slain by kṣatriya-s.

हालाँकि, वे युद्ध में मारे गए हैं। समय की प्रगति को देखो. हे माधव! यह निश्चित है कि ऐसा कोई भी बोझ नहीं है जो भाग्य के लिए बहुत भारी हो, क्योंकि ये बहादुर, क्षत्रियों के बैल, क्षत्रियों द्वारा मारे गए हैं।

तदैव निहताः कृष्ण मम पुत्रास्तरस्विनः यदैवाकृतकामस्त्वमुपप्लव्यं गतः पुनः

O Kṛṣṇā! When you came to Upaplavya and returned unsuccessfully again, my spirited sons were already killed.

हे कृष्ण! जब आप उपप्लव्य आये और फिर असफल होकर लौटे, तो मेरे उत्साही पुत्र पहले ही मारे जा चुके थे।

शंतनोश्चैव पुत्रेण प्राज्ञेन विदुरेण च तदैवोक्तास्मि मा स्नेहं कुरुष्वात्मसुतेष्विति

That is what Śāntanu's son and the wise Vidūra told me then. "Do not show any affection towards your sons."

शांतनु के पुत्र और बुद्धिमान विदुर ने मुझे तब यही बताया था। "अपने बेटों के प्रति कोई स्नेह मत दिखाओ।"

तयोर्न दर्शनं तात मिथ्या भवितुमर्हति अचिरेणैव मे पुत्रा भस्मीभूता जनार्दन

O son! What they saw, was certain to have come true. O Janārdana! In a short while, my sons were consumed and became ashes."

हे वत्स उन्होंने जो देखा, उसका सच होना निश्चित था। हे जनार्दन! थोड़ी ही देर में मेरे पुत्र भस्म होकर राख हो गये।”

वैशंपायन उवाच इत्युक्त्वा न्यपतद्भूमौ गान्धारी शोककर्शिता दुःखोपहतविज्ञाना धैर्यमुत्सृज्य भारत

Vaiśampāyana said: Having said this, Gāndhārī was oppressed by grief and fell down on the ground. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Her senses were distracted by her grief and she abandoned her fortitude.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: इतना कहकर गांधारी दुःख से पीड़ित होकर भूमि पर गिर पड़ीं। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! उसके दुःख से उसकी इन्द्रियाँ विचलित हो गईं और उसने अपना धैर्य त्याग दिया।

ततः कोपपरीताङ्गी पुत्रशोकपरिप्लुता जगाम शौरिं दोषेण गान्धारी व्यथितेन्द्रिया

Because she was overcome by sorrow on account of her sons, her body was overcome by rage. With her senses distressed, Gāndhārī ascribed the blame to Śauri.

क्योंकि वह अपने पुत्रों के कारण दुःख से व्याकुल हो गई थी, और उसका शरीर क्रोध से व्याकुल हो गया था। अपनी इंद्रियों से व्यथित होकर, गांधारी ने इसका दोष शौरी पर मढ़ दिया।

गान्धार्युवाच पाण्डवा धार्तराष्ट्राश्च द्रुग्धाः कृष्ण परस्परम् उपेक्षिता विनश्यन्तस्त्वया कस्माज्जनार्दन

Gāndhārī said, "O Kṛṣṇā! The Pāṇḍava-s and the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra were malicious towards each other. O Janārdana! Why was their destruction ignored by you?

गांधारी ने कहा, "हे कृष्ण! पांडव और धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्र एक-दूसरे के प्रति द्वेषपूर्ण थे। हे जनार्दन! आपने उनके विनाश की अनदेखी क्यों की?

शक्तेन बहुभृत्येन विपुले तिष्ठता बले उभयत्र समर्थेन श्रुतवाक्येन चैव ह

You were capable. You had many servants and were stationed with a large army. Both sides were capable of listening to your words.

आप सक्षम थे. आपके बहुत से सेवक थे और आप एक बड़ी सेना के साथ तैनात थे। दोनों पक्ष आपकी बातें सुनने में सक्षम थे.

इच्छतोपेक्षितो नाशः कुरूणां मधुसूदन यस्मात्त्वया महाबाहो फलं तस्मादवाप्नुहि

O Madhusūdana! You wilfully ignored the destruction of the Kuru-s. O mighty-armed one! Therefore, you will have to reap the fruits of what you have done.

हे मधुसूदन! आपने जानबूझकर कुरु-वंश के विनाश की उपेक्षा की। हे महाबाहु! इसलिए आपने जो किया है उसका फल तो आपको भुगतना ही पड़ेगा।

पतिशुश्रूषया यन्मे तपः किंचिदुपार्जितम् तेन त्वां दुरवापात्मञ्शप्स्ये चक्रगदाधर

O wielder of the cakra and the club! I have earned something through my austerities and through serving my husband. You may be difficult to fathom. But nonetheless, I am cursing you.

हे चक्र और गदाधारी! मैंने अपनी तपस्या से और अपने पति की सेवा से कुछ कमाया है। आपको समझना मुश्किल हो सकता है. लेकिन फिर भी, मैं तुम्हें श्राप दे रहा हूं.

यस्मात्परस्परं घ्नन्तो ज्ञातयः कुरुपाण्डवाः उपेक्षितास्ते गोविन्द तस्माज्ज्ञातीन्वधिष्यसि

The relatives, the Kuru-s and the Pāṇḍava-s, slaughtered each other. O Govinda! Since you ignored this, you will slay your own relatives.

रिश्तेदारों, कुरु-और पांडव-ने एक-दूसरे का वध किया। हे गोविंद! चूँकि तुमने इस पर ध्यान नहीं दिया, इसलिए तुम अपने ही रिश्तेदारों को मार डालोगे।

त्वमप्युपस्थिते वर्षे षट्त्रिंशे मधुसूदन हतज्ञातिर्हतामात्यो हतपुत्रो वनेचरः कुत्सितेनाभ्युपायेन निधनं समवाप्स्यसि

O Madhusūdana! When thirty-six years have elapsed, your relatives will be killed, your advisers will be killed and your sons will be killed. You will wander around in the forest. You will confront a horrible death.

हे मधुसूदन! छत्तीस वर्ष बीत जाने पर तेरे कुटुम्बी मारे जाएंगे, तेरे सलाहकार मारे जाएंगे, और तेरे पुत्र मारे जाएंगे। तुम जंगल में इधर-उधर भटकोगे. आप एक भयानक मौत का सामना करेंगे।

तवाप्येवं हतसुता निहतज्ञातिबान्धवाः स्त्रियः परिपतिष्यन्ति यथैता भरतस्त्रियः

With the sons slain, with the kin and relatives killed, your wives will be tormented, as the women of the Bhārata lineage are now."

पुत्रों के मारे जाने से, बन्धु-बान्धवों के मारे जाने से तुम्हारी पत्नियाँ उसी प्रकार पीड़ित होंगी, जैसे भरत वंश की स्त्रियाँ अब हो रही हैं।"

वैशंपायन उवाच तच्छ्रुत्वा वचनं घोरं वासुदेवो महामनाः उवाच देवीं गान्धारीमीषदभ्युत्स्मयन्निव

Vaiśampāyana said: Having heard these terrible words, the great-minded Vāsudeva smiled a little and replied to Queen Gāndhārī.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: इन भयानक शब्दों को सुनकर, महान दिमाग वाले वासुदेव थोड़ा मुस्कुराए और रानी गांधारी को उत्तर दिया।

संहर्ता वृष्णिचक्रस्य नान्यो मद्विद्यते शुभे जानेऽहमेतदप्येवं चीर्णं चरसि क्षत्रिये

"O beautiful one! No one other than me can destroy the circle of the Vṛṣṇi-s. O kṣatriya lady! I know what has already been decided. You have acted in accordance with what has been ordained.

"हे सुंदरी! मेरे अलावा कोई भी वृष्णियों के चक्र को नष्ट नहीं कर सकता। हे क्षत्रिय महिला! मैं जानता हूं कि क्या पहले ही तय किया जा चुका है। तुमने जो निर्धारित किया गया है उसके अनुसार कार्य किया है।

अवध्यास्ते नरैरन्यैरपि वा देवदानवैः परस्परकृतं नाशमतः प्राप्स्यन्ति यादवाः

The Yādava-s cannot be killed by any other men, or by gods and dānava-s. They will confront their destruction at each other's hands.

यादवों को किसी अन्य व्यक्ति, या देवताओं और दानवों द्वारा नहीं मारा जा सकता है। वे एक-दूसरे के हाथों अपने विनाश का सामना करेंगे।

इत्युक्तवति दाशार्हे पाण्डवास्त्रस्तचेतसः बभूवुर्भृशसंविग्ना निराशाश्चापि जीविते

When Dāśārha said this, the Pāṇḍava-s lost their senses. They became extremely anxious and no longer wished to remain alive.

जब दशार्ह ने यह कहा, तो पांडव अपनी इंद्रियाँ खो बैठे। वे अत्यधिक चिंतित हो गए और अब जीवित रहना नहीं चाहते थे।
