वैशंपायन उवाच एवमुक्त्वा युधां श्रेष्ठः सर्वयादवनन्दनः सर्वायुधवरोपेतमारुरोह महारथम् युक्तं परमकाम्बोजैस्तुरगैर्हेममालिभिः

Vaiśampāyana said: Having spoken these words, the foremost of warriors, the one who delighted all the Yādava-s, mounted his giant chariot, which was stocked with every kind of weapon. It was yoked to two excellent horses from Kāmboja and they had golden harnesses.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: इन शब्दों को कहकर, योद्धाओं में सबसे प्रमुख, जिसने सभी यादवों को प्रसन्न किया, वह अपने विशाल रथ पर चढ़ गया, जो सभी प्रकार के हथियारों से भरा हुआ था। यह कंबोज के दो उत्कृष्ट घोड़ों से जुड़ा हुआ था और उनके पास सुनहरे हार्नेस थे।

आदित्योदयवर्णस्य धुरं रथवरस्य तु दक्षिणामवहत्सैन्यः सुग्रीवः सव्यतोऽवहत् पार्ष्णिवाहौ तु तस्यास्तां मेघपुष्पबलाहकौ

The shaft of that excellent chariot had the complexion of the rising sun. Sainya was yoked on the right and Sugrīva was yoked on the left. Meghapuṣpa and Balāhaka were yoked on the flanks.

उस उत्तम रथ के डण्डे का रंग उगते हुए सूर्य के समान था। दाहिनी ओर सैंया जुए में बंधा हुआ था और बाईं ओर सुग्रीव जुए में बंधा हुआ था। मेघपुष्प और बलाहक पार्श्वों पर जुए में बंधे हुए थे।

विश्वकर्मकृता दिव्या नानारत्नविभूषिता उच्छ्रितेव रथे माया ध्वजयष्टिरदृश्यत

This divine chariot had been constructed by Viśvakarma and was decorated with many jewels. A flagpole with powers of māyā was raised up

इस दिव्य रथ का निर्माण विश्वकर्मा ने किया था और इसे कई रत्नों से सजाया गया था। माया की शक्तियों वाला एक ध्वजस्तंभ खड़ा किया गया

वैनतेयः स्थितस्तस्यां प्रभामण्डलरश्मिवान् तस्य सत्यवतः केतुर्भुजगारिरदृश्यत

Vinatā's son was resplendently stationed there, like rays radiating from the solar disc. The enemy of the snakes was seen on that flag, like truth personified.

विनता का पुत्र सूर्य चक्र से निकलने वाली किरणों के समान शोभायमान था। उस ध्वज पर सापों का शत्रु साक्षात् सत्य के समान दिखाई देता था।

अन्वारोहद्धृषीकेशः केतुः सर्वधनुष्मताम् अर्जुनः सत्यकर्मा च कुरुराजो युधिष्ठिरः

Hṛṣīkeśa, with a standard that was the best among those of all archers, ascended the chariot and so did Arjuna, the performer of truthful deeds, and the Kuru king, Yudhiṣṭhira.

सभी धनुर्धरों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ ध्वज के साथ हृषीकेश रथ पर चढ़े, सत्य कर्म करने वाले अर्जुन और कुरु राजा युधिष्ठिर भी रथ पर चढ़े।

अशोभेतां महात्मानौ दाशार्हमभितः स्थितौ रथस्थं शार्ङ्गधन्वानमश्विनाविव वासवम्

On either side of Dāśārha, those great-souled ones dazzled. The wielder of the Śārṅga bow was like Vāsava on that chariot, with the two Aśvin-s on either side.

दशार्ह के दोनों ओर वे महानुभाव चकाचौंध हो गये। सारंग धनुष का धारक उस रथ पर वासव की तरह था, जिसके दोनों ओर दो अश्विन थे।

तावुपारोप्य दाशार्हः स्यन्दनं लोकपूजितम् प्रतोदेन जवोपेतान्परमाश्वानचोदयत्

Having ascended the chariot that was honoured by the worlds, Dāśārha goaded those excellent horses to pick up speed.

संसार द्वारा सम्मानित रथ पर चढ़कर दशार्ह ने उन उत्कृष्ट घोड़ों को गति बढ़ाने के लिए प्रेरित किया।

ते हयाः सहसोत्पेतुर्गृहीत्वा स्यन्दनोत्तमम् आस्थितं पाण्डवेयाभ्यां यदूनामृषभेण च

Urged by the bull among the Yadu-s, and with the two Pāṇḍaveya-s on it, those horses swiftly bore that excellent chariot along.

यदुओं के बीच बैल द्वारा प्रेरित और उस पर दो पांडवों के साथ, वे घोड़े तेजी से उस उत्कृष्ट रथ को ले गए।

वहतां शार्ङ्गधन्वानमश्वानां शीघ्रगामिनाम् प्रादुरासीन्महाञ्शब्दः पक्षिणां पततामिव

The horses of the one who wielded the Śārṅga bow were extremely fast. As they sped, there was a great sound, like that of birds descending in the sky.

शारंग धनुष धारण करने वाले के घोड़े अत्यंत तेज़ थे। जैसे-जैसे वे आगे बढ़ते गए, आकाश में उतरते पक्षियों के समान एक बड़ी ध्वनि उत्पन्न हुई।

ते समार्छन्नरव्याघ्राः क्षणेन भरतर्षभ भीमसेनं महेष्वासं समनुद्रुत्य वेगिताः

Bhīmasena, the great archer, was travelling fast. O bull among the Bhārata lineage! However, in a short while, those tigers among men caught up with him.

महान धनुर्धर भीमसेन तेजी से आगे बढ़ रहे थे। हे भरत वंश में बैल! हालाँकि, थोड़ी ही देर में उन मनुष्यों के बीच के बाघों ने उसे पकड़ लिया।

क्रोधदीप्तं तु कौन्तेयं द्विषदर्थे समुद्यतम् नाशक्नुवन्वारयितुं समेत्यापि महारथाः

Kaunteya blazed in anger and he rushed towards the enemy. Though those mahāratha-s caught up with him, they could not restrain him.

कौन्तेय क्रोध से जल उठा और वह शत्रु की ओर दौड़ पड़ा। यद्यपि उन महारथियों ने उसे पकड़ लिया, परंतु वे उसे रोक नहीं सके।

स तेषां प्रेक्षतामेव श्रीमतां दृढधन्विनाम् ययौ भागिरथीकच्छं हरिभिर्भृशवेगितैः यत्र स्म श्रूयते द्रौणिः पुत्रहन्ता महात्मनाम्

While those handsome and firm archers looked on, using his extremely fast and tawny steeds, he headed towards the banks of the Bhāgīrathī. He had heard that Droṇa's great-souled son, the slayer of his sons, would be there.

जब वे सुंदर और दृढ़ धनुर्धर देखते रहे, तो वह अपने अत्यंत तेज़ और तगड़े घोड़ों का उपयोग करते हुए, भागीरथी के तट की ओर चला गया। उसने सुना था कि द्रोण का महाबली पुत्र, उसके पुत्रों का हत्यारा, वहाँ होगा।

स ददर्श महात्मानमुदकान्ते यशस्विनम् कृष्णद्वैपायनं व्यासमासीनमृषिभिः सह

He saw the cheerful, illustrious and great-souled Kṛṣṇā Dvaipāyana Vyāsa there, seated with riṣi-s.

उन्होंने वहां हर्षित, तेजस्वी और महान आत्मा वाले कृष्ण द्वैपायन व्यास को ऋषियों के साथ बैठे हुए देखा।

तं चैव क्रूरकर्माणं घृताक्तं कुशचीरिणम् रजसा ध्वस्तकेशान्तं ददर्श द्रौणिमन्तिके

He also saw Droṇa's son seated near them, with dust covering the tips of his hair. The perpetrator of evil deeds was covered in clarified butter and was dressed in a garment made of kuśa gras-s.

उन्होंने द्रोण के पुत्र को भी उनके पास बैठे देखा, जिसके बालों के सिरे धूल से ढके हुए थे। बुरे कर्म करने वाले को घी से ढका जाता था और कुश ग्रास से बना वस्त्र पहनाया जाता था।

तमभ्यधावत्कौन्तेयः प्रगृह्य सशरं धनुः भीमसेनो महाबाहुस्तिष्ठ तिष्ठेति चाब्रवीत्

Kaunteya grasped his bow and an arrow and rushed towards him. The mighty-armed Bhīmasena exclaimed, "Wait. Wait."

कौन्तेय ने अपना धनुष और बाण उठाया और उसकी ओर दौड़े। महाबाहु भीमसेन ने कहा, "रुको। रुको।"

स दृष्ट्वा भीमधन्वानं प्रगृहीतशरासनम् भ्रातरौ पृष्ठतश्चास्य जनार्दनरथे स्थितौ व्यथितात्माभवद्द्रौणिः प्राप्तं चेदममन्यत

Droṇa's son saw the one with the terrible bow dashing towards him, with a bow and an arrow. He saw his two brothers and Janārdana stationed behind him. He was distressed and thought that he had met his end.

द्रोण के पुत्र ने भयानक धनुषधारी को धनुष और बाण के साथ अपनी ओर आते देखा। उसने अपने दोनों भाइयों और जनार्दन को अपने पीछे खड़े देखा। वह व्यथित था और उसने सोचा कि उसका अंत हो गया है।

स तद्दिव्यमदीनात्मा परमास्त्रमचिन्तयत् जग्राह च स चैषीकां द्रौणिः सव्येन पाणिना स तामापदमासाद्य दिव्यमस्त्रमुदीरयत्

However, since his soul was never distressed, he thought of the divine and supreme weapon. Droṇa's son grasped a reed in his left hand and invoked that celestial weapon on it.

In the presence of those brave ones, who also possessed divine weapons, the intolerant one released it, uttering the terrible words, "To bring an end to the Pāṇḍava-s".

उन शूरवीरों की उपस्थिति में, जिनके पास दिव्य हथियार भी थे, असहिष्णु व्यक्ति ने "पांडवों का अंत करने के लिए" भयानक शब्द बोलते हुए उन्हें छोड़ दिया।

इत्युक्त्वा राजशार्दूल द्रोणपुत्रः प्रतापवान् सर्वलोकप्रमोहार्थं तदस्त्रं प्रमुमोच ह

O tiger among kings! For the sake of confounding all the worlds, Droṇa's powerful son spoke these words and released that weapon.

हे राजाओं में व्याघ्र! समस्त लोकों को भ्रमित करने के लिये द्रोण के शक्तिशाली पुत्र ने ये शब्द कहे और वह अस्त्र छोड़ा।

ततस्तस्यामिषीकायां पावकः समजायत प्रधक्ष्यन्निव लोकांस्त्रीन्कालान्तकयमोपमः

A fire was generated in that reed and it seemed to consume the three worlds, like Yāma at the end of time.

उस नरकट में आग उत्पन्न हो गई और वह अंत समय में यम की भाँति तीनों लोकों को भस्म करने लगी।
