धृतराष्ट्र उवाच अहोऽभिहितमाख्यानं भवता तत्त्वदर्शिना भूय एव तु मे हर्षः श्रोतुं वागमृतं तव

Dhṛtarāṣṭra said, "O one who can see about the true nature of things! You have told me about an appropriate account. I wish to be again delighted by listening to your words, which are like amṛtā."

धृतराष्ट्र ने कहा, "हे जो चीजों की वास्तविक प्रकृति को देख सकता है! आपने मुझे एक उचित वृत्तांत के बारे में बताया है। मैं आपके शब्दों को सुनकर फिर से प्रसन्न होना चाहता हूं, जो अमृत के समान हैं।"

विदुर उवाच शृणु भूयः प्रवक्ष्यामि मार्गस्यैतस्य विस्तरम् यच्छ्रुत्वा विप्रमुच्यन्ते संसारेभ्यो विचक्षणाः

Vidūra replied, "Listen. I will again tell you about that path in detail. On listening to this, accomplished ones are freed from the cycle of life.

विदुर ने उत्तर दिया, "सुनो। मैं तुम्हें उस मार्ग के बारे में फिर से विस्तार से बताऊंगा। इसे सुनकर सिद्ध लोग जीवन के चक्र से मुक्त हो जाते हैं।"

यथा तु पुरुषो राजन्दीर्घमध्वानमास्थितः क्वचित्क्वचिच्छ्रमात्स्थाता कुरुते वासमेव वा

O king! A man who is on a long journey is exhausted and dwells somewhere for some time.

हे राजा! एक आदमी जो लंबी यात्रा पर है, थक जाता है और कुछ समय के लिए कहीं रुक जाता है।

एवं संसारपर्याये गर्भवासेषु भारत कुर्वन्ति दुर्बुधा वासं मुच्यन्ते तत्र पण्डिताः

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! In that way, those who are limited in their intelligence paś-s through this cycle of life and dwell in many wombs. However, those who are learned are freed.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! इस प्रकार, जो लोग जीवन के इस चक्र में अपनी बुद्धि में सीमित हैं और कई गर्भों में रहते हैं। हालाँकि, जो विद्वान हैं वे मुक्त हो जाते हैं।

तस्मादध्वानमेवैतमाहुः शास्त्रविदो जनाः यत्तु संसारगहनं वनमाहुर्मनीषिणः

That is the reason those who are learned in the sacred texts speak of this as the journey. The learned describe this unfathomable life as a forest.

यही कारण है कि जो लोग पवित्र ग्रंथों के विद्वान हैं वे इसे यात्रा के रूप में कहते हैं। विद्वान लोग इस अथाह जीवन को वन के समान बताते हैं।

सोऽयं लोकसमावर्तो मर्त्यानां भरतर्षभ चराणां स्थावराणां च गृध्येत्तत्र न पण्डितः

O bull among the Bhārata lineage! Those who are mortal have to return to this world, whether they are mobile or immobile. But one who is learned is not enamoured of this.

हे भरत वंश में बैल! जो नश्वर हैं उन्हें इस दुनिया में लौटना होगा, चाहे वे गतिशील हों या स्थिर। लेकिन जो विद्वान है, वह इस पर मोहित नहीं होता।

शारीरा मानसाश्चैव मर्त्यानां ये तु व्याधयः प्रत्यक्षाश्च परोक्षाश्च ते व्यालाः कथिता बुधैः

The learned speak of the physical and mental diseases of mortals, whether they are direct or indirect, as carnivorous beasts.

विद्वान लोग मनुष्यों की शारीरिक और मानसिक बीमारियों को, चाहे वे प्रत्यक्ष हों या अप्रत्यक्ष, मांसाहारी जानवरों के रूप में बताते हैं।

क्लिश्यमानाश्च तैर्नित्यं हन्यमानाश्च भारत स्वकर्मभिर्महाव्यालैर्नोद्विजन्त्यल्पबुद्धयः

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Those with limited intelligence are not disturbed by the large carnivorous beasts of their own deeds, even though they are always afflicted and attacked by them.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! सीमित बुद्धि वाले लोग अपने कर्मों के कारण बड़े मांसाहारी जानवरों से परेशान नहीं होते हैं, भले ही वे हमेशा उनसे पीड़ित होते हैं और उन पर हमला करते हैं।

अथापि तैर्विमुच्येत व्याधिभिः पुरुषो नृप आवृणोत्येव तं पश्चाज्जरा रूपविनाशिनी

O king! Even if a man escapes from these diseases, he is subsequently enveloped by old age, destructive of beauty.

हे राजा! यदि कोई मनुष्य इन रोगों से बच भी जाता है, तो बाद में सौंदर्य को नष्ट करने वाला बुढ़ापा उसे घेर लेता है।

शब्दरूपरसस्पर्शैर्गन्धैश्च विविधैरपि मज्जमानं महापङ्के निरालम्बे समन्ततः

Without any support in any direction, he is submerged in the great mire of many kinds of sound, forms, tastes, touch and scent.

वह बिना किसी दिशा के सहारे के अनेक प्रकार के शब्द, रूप, स्वाद, स्पर्श और गंध के महान कीचड़ में डूबा हुआ है।

संवत्सरर्तवो मासाः पक्षाहोरात्रसंधयः क्रमेणास्य प्रलुम्पन्ति रूपमायुस्तथैव च

Years, seasons, months, fortnights, days, nights and sandhyā-s progressively take away beauty and vitality.

वर्ष, ऋतुएँ, महीने, पखवाड़े, दिन, रातें और संध्याएँ धीरे-धीरे सुंदरता और जीवन शक्ति को छीन लेती हैं।

एते कालस्य निधयो नैताञ्जानन्ति दुर्बुधाः अत्राभिलिखितान्याहुः सर्वभूतानि कर्मणा

These are the different manifestations of time, but those with limited intelligence do not know about them. It is said that all beings here have their deeds written on them.

ये समय की विभिन्न अभिव्यक्तियाँ हैं, लेकिन सीमित बुद्धि वाले इनके बारे में नहीं जानते। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि यहां सभी प्राणियों पर उनके कर्म लिखे हुए हैं।

रथं शरीरं भूतानां सत्त्वमाहुस्तु सारथिम् इन्द्रियाणि हयानाहुः कर्म बुद्धिश्च रश्मयः

The body of a being is like a chariot. The soul is said to be the charioteer. The senses are said to be the horses. Deeds and intelligence are the harnesses.

प्राणी का शरीर रथ के समान है। आत्मा को सारथी कहा गया है। इंद्रियों को घोड़े कहा गया है। कर्म और बुद्धि हार्नेस हैं।

तेषां हयानां यो वेगं धावतामनुधावति स तु संसारचक्रेऽस्मिंश्चक्रवत्परिवर्तते

He who dashes behind those swift horses is whirled around on a wheel on this cycle of life. However, a charioteer who controls them with his intelligence does not return.

जो उन तेज़ घोड़ों के पीछे दौड़ता है, वह जीवन के इस चक्र में एक पहिये पर घूमता है। हालाँकि, जो सारथी उन्हें अपनी बुद्धि से नियंत्रित करता है वह वापस नहीं लौटता।

यस्तान्यमयते बुद्ध्या स यन्ता न निवर्तते याम्यमाहू रथं ह्येनं मुह्यन्ते येन दुर्बुधाः

It is said that the chariot which confounds those with limited intelligence belongs to Yāma.

ऐसा कहा जाता है कि जो रथ सीमित बुद्धि वालों को भ्रमित कर देता है वह यम का है।

स चैतत्प्राप्नुते राजन्यत्त्वं प्राप्तो नराधिप राज्यनाशं सुहृन्नाशं सुतनाशं च भारत

O king! O lord of men! It gives what you yourself have obtained—destruction of the kingdom, destruction of well-wishers and the destruction of sons.

हे राजा! हे मनुष्यों के स्वामी! यह वही देता है जो आपने स्वयं प्राप्त किया है - राज्य का विनाश, शुभचिंतकों का विनाश और पुत्रों का विनाश।

अनुतर्षुलमेवैतद्दुःखं भवति भारत साधुः परमदुःखानां दुःखभैषज्यमाचरेत्

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! This subsequent craving only leads to sorrow. In the course of a supreme sorrow, a righteous person should look upon the grief as medicine.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! यह बाद की लालसा ही दुख की ओर ले जाती है। परम दुःख के समय धर्मात्मा व्यक्ति को दुःख को औषधि के रूप में देखना चाहिए।

न विक्रमो न चाप्यर्थो न मित्रं न सुहृज्जनः तथोन्मोचयते दुःखाद्यथात्मा स्थिरसंयमः

One who is firm in controlling his soul can escape from that sorrow in a way that valour, prosperity, friends and well-wishers cannot.

जो अपनी आत्मा को वश में करने में दृढ़ है, वह उस दुःख से इस प्रकार बच सकता है, जिस प्रकार पराक्रम, समृद्धि, मित्र और शुभचिंतक नहीं बच सकते।

तस्मान्मैत्रं समास्थाय शीलमापद्य भारत दमस्त्यागोऽप्रमादश्च ते त्रयो ब्रह्मणो हयाः

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! A brāhmaṇa who resorts to friendship and good conduct has three horses to depend on—self-control, renunciation and lack of distraction.

हे भरत वंश के वंशज! एक ब्राह्मण जो मित्रता और अच्छे आचरण का सहारा लेता है, उसके पास निर्भर रहने के लिए तीन घोड़े होते हैं - आत्म-नियंत्रण, त्याग और व्याकुलता की कमी।

शीलरश्मिसमायुक्ते स्थितो यो मानसे रथे त्यक्त्वा मृत्युभयं राजन्ब्रह्मलोकं स गच्छति

A man who is stationed on that mental chariot and controls the reins of good conduct, discards all fear of death. O king! He goes to Brahmā's world."

जो मनुष्य उस मानसिक रथ पर बैठा है और अच्छे आचरण की लगाम को नियंत्रित करता है, वह मृत्यु के सभी भय को त्याग देता है। हे राजा! वह ब्रह्मा की दुनिया में जाता है।"
