20 Kandas · 348 mantras · Ancient wisdom for health, protection, and everyday living
About the Atharva Veda
The Atharva Veda (अथर्ववेद) is the fourth and most practical of the four Vedas. Named after the sage Atharvan, it is a collection of 6,150 mantras organized into 20 Kandas (books) that deal with the concerns of everyday human life — health, healing, protection from evil, prosperity, longevity, and domestic harmony.
While the Rig Veda focuses on cosmic hymns, the Yajur Veda on ritual formulas, and the Sama Veda on musical chanting — the Atharva Veda brings Vedic wisdom directly into the home. It contains mantras for curing diseases, warding off evil spirits, ensuring successful harvests, blessing marriages, and even resolving disputes.
The Atharva Veda is also the foundation of Ayurveda (the science of life and medicine), making it perhaps the oldest medical text in human history. Its teachings on herbs, healing sounds, and the connection between mind and body continue to influence alternative medicine practices worldwide.
