About the Ramayana
The Ramayana (रामायण) is one of the two great Sanskrit epics of ancient India, alongside the Mahabharata. Composed by the sage Valmiki, it is often called the Adi Kavya — the first poem ever written in human history. With approximately 24,000 verses divided into 6 Kandas (books), it tells the story of Prince Rama of Ayodhya, his exile, the abduction of his wife Sita, and the great war to rescue her.
But the Ramayana is far more than a story of war and rescue. It is the ultimate guide to dharma — righteous living. Rama embodies the ideal son, husband, king, and warrior.
