Who is Goddess Saraswati?

Goddess Saraswati is the Hindu deity of knowledge, music, arts, and learning. She is part of the Tridevi (Saraswati, Lakshmi, Parvati) and is worshipped by students, scholars, musicians, and artists. Basant Panchami is her special day when students place books at her feet.

'Saraswati' means 'one who flows' — referring to the ancient river Saraswati and the flow of knowledge and speech.

Saraswati is depicted wearing white garments symbolising purity, seated on a white lotus, playing the veena (stringed instrument). She holds scriptures and a mala, with a swan (Hamsa) as her vahana.
